I like this establishment and have been there before, but I did not have a good experience with the owner who did my cut and color. He did try to hair shame me as in other reviews to upsell his services and I felt like he did not listen to what I wanted. The cut seemed rushed and he chatted with other coworkers over me. What a fabulous experience I had today at Tuana Hair Designs. I'm a busy single mom that has little to no time for my hair. I don't even know anything about hair. I had a stylist for 16 years that recently left the business, since then, I've tried to maintain my hair on my own. Uuuuh, lets just say, the color boxes, months with no haircuts, and self- product selection FRIED my hair. I had to find a new stylist and salon and decided to give Tuana a try. I was so impressed with Kazim and is enthusiasm for his craft and fixing my hair that's been ignored for far too long. I moved to Berthoud almost a year ago. I tried several hair salons in the area but when I found Kazim at Tuana Hair Design in Fort Collins I couldn't have been happier. I sit in his chair and I don't have to explain what color or cut I need. He is such a professional and experienced hairstylist that every time I go to the salon I leave amazed at what he can do with my frizzy, curly hair. The receptionists are extremely courteous and friendly and you are greeted with a smile and immediately ask what you would like to drink and how your day is going? I would highly recommend Kazim and his salon to anyone who is looking for a professional and highly experienced hair stylist and a cheerful environment! read more

I called and made an appointment. It was on speaker so my staff could all notate appointment..bc I am busy and my time is very valuable. I showed up to a locked set of doors with clients sitting in chairs laughing at me trying to make sure I wasn't struggling with the door..no it was indeed locked..I turned to leave and a young lady scurried over to open and said she didn't realize the door was locked ..it was the front door at 220 pm..my appointment was for 230. I gave my name..already feeling uncomfortable about the door .and told it was for 130. Bs. When I made the appointment I explained I was just leaving a salon of years and feeling very bad and needed this to go well. So I ask what happened to their reminder calls..I looked in my phone..and there was two calls that day..one at 11 and one at 135pm. No Saturday reminder call..the half dressed in a snow storm teen said was made...I'm looking at my history and verifying their number...no call..till hours before appointment. It was a snowy day below 20 degrees and the teen is wearing her t shirt tied in a knot and jeans so her abs are showing..in a snow storm... There was no time or talk to remedy.. I called for an Uber and was walking out before the teen offered an appointment later in the week. Nope. I KNOW we made the appointment for 230 and my manager heard it ...and we both entered it in the calendars...and somehow the time was changed on their end... After being their comedic relief to be laughed at from locked doors ..to the finding out the appointment time was not what was agreed to...it's best if we do not do any business together. Mind you I do suggest more appropriate clothing and better customer service skills for the receptionist. I cannot review the actual talent or lack of regarding hair. From my experience with this receptionist.. I won't roll the dice and have any one their touch my hair to find out. Bad receptionists ruin businesses. Can some one please pass the word that reception skills matter enough to pay for a good one...and to fire the lousy ones who create these experiences..causing businesses and customers to loose a connection to conduct the actual business... because the receptionist is not able to be professional and lacks any insight that their physical appearance and crude behavior is a reflection upon their employer? Being laughed at while outside in the cold and snow from the people on the inside .. of a business...from locked business doors..during business hours.... by a heavy make up'd but bare bellied teen...was not an introduction of a business that makes me feel like rescheduling would be a positive idea. After reading other reviews..on Yelp..I may have been spared. I sought this appointment bc of the salon rating for being a top salon in FOCO for 2019 and they carry my brand..Oribe. Well...I guess I'm still salonless ... and I'll have to rethink how they choose " top local business" for that local magazine..taking it's reccomendations with several tons of salt on the criteria selected to grant these rankings... read more

Make no mistake, Tuana is the kind of salon where you will walk out with gorgeous hair - man, woman, or child. It's been a few years since I visited, but I was a regular for a long time. One time someone even stopped me in the Houston airport to compliment me on my hair. Who does that? Plus, Kazim and the staff just make you feel fabulous and like a movie star when you're at the salon. (Or maybe it was just me.) One thing you should know ahead of time - this is not the type of place where you walk in with a photo of a style and say "I want this haircut". Kazim knows hair, and he will pick the style for your face and type of hair. 95% of the time, he's dead on. A bunch of my coworkers used to visit Tuana, but collectively we all just stopped. I just couldn't afford to drop the cash anymore, despite the fact I wanted gorgeous hair. I know they have a salon in Denver now, but I think my next choice will be Babooshka. I like being fawned on by hot Turkish guys, but I still just can't afford to drop that kind of money. Maybe someday, though. *One star off: exorbitant prices (women, for cut and color be prepared to drop about $200-$250 or more, depending on what you get - I should add that they usually encourage you to get product, which I did) **Another star off: extreme overbooking and lack of attention if there are too many clients at once - this is why some of my coworkers stopped going (Fort Collins location) read more

Shortly after I wrote my previous review, my stylist left. Argh, who doesn't hate having to find a new stylist? Tuana suggested that I re-schedule with their new gal, Nikki ... and since I'd have to "break in" a new stylist whether I stayed at Tuana or went elsewhere, I figured why not? So far I have had a couple of appointments for color touch-ups and haircuts with Nikki, and I'm very happy. She listens _really_ well, not just what you say, but what you mean. An example -- when she asked what we were going to be doing when I went in for my most recent appointment, I told her that I was kind of thinking about doing something different with my cut but that I didn't really know what, so I guess just trim it. I think most stylists would have just gone along with the trim, but she asked a few questions about why I was thinking about something different, what I didn't like about my current haircut, etc. and then made a couple of suggestions that I could think about while my color was setting under the dryer. We tried one of her suggestions, which came out really well -- not radically different, but enough to feel "fresh." I like that she offered her opinions without being overbearing. I will also note that the salon seems to be a bit more consistent about the little things -- e.g. calling to remind me of my appointments two days ahead rather than one, kind of key when they have a 24-hour cancellation policy. First things first: I have found my hair salon home in Fort Collins. After an unsuccessful attempt to dye my hair from dark brown to red, I was looking for a salon with a better track record and I found it! I loved my stylist, Brittany. She was friendly and very accommodating, and I felt as though she really listened to what I wanted for my hair. She did up-sell their products and services a lot, but I didn't knock off a star for that. If Tabatha's Salon Takeover has taught me anything, it's that salons make a fair amount of their revenue on product sales and rather than pushing me to buy specific products, she explained what they did so I could replicate what she did with my hair more easily at home. For overall salon policy, I liked that they have text alerts and save the date cards for appointments. I'm very absent-minded, so having those reminders are wonderful! All of the other staff seemed to have really good relationships with their clients and the receptionist was very attentive and friendly, even going so far as to sweep the floor if there was no work to be done at the desk. I did have to knock off a star because I'm a poor college student and this salon is on the pricey side, but I can confidently say that the price was worth it. I will definitely be going back for a root touch-up and future haircuts, and I will recommend this salon to anyone who will listen! read more

Horrible reception and customer service!!! I was just in town for the day and wanted to get my eyebrows threaded. I've been on the road for about a month and my brows were pretty bad. I called about 15 different salons trying to find one that offered the service. The receptionist said they take walk-ins but there's only two people in the salon that thread and by walking in instead of making an appointment I was taking the chance that the ladies wouldn't be there or would be too busy. I made an appointment. I arrived with my niece 15 minutes early. We walked in to a woman behind the reception counter with a phone to her ear, another woman sitting at the nearest station, and a man peaking around from another station. All three just looked at us. After I said hello the receptionist asked if I had an appointment. I said yes. With the phone still to her ear she said okay. The other woman stood and walked away. The man disappeared behind a station. A few minutes later the receptionist was off the phone and asked if we would like something to drink. We asked for water. The man peaked from behind a station again and asked if we had been there before saying we looked familiar. Then he invited us into the salon to take a seat. (The seats are not visible from the front of the salon) 25 min later I approached the receptionist saying my appointment was at 2:15. She non-apologetically said I could wait or reschedule and that the lady who would be doing the threading would be done with her client soon. I went back to my seat and the stylist directly in front of me started apologizing to me while continuing to work on the lady in her chair. She said she didn't know I was waiting for her. 10 min later I was having my brows threaded, a process that only took about 10 min. The man approached while I was in the chair and thanked me for my patience and made the comment that they were really busy. That was laughable because there were only 3 other customers that I could see. He thanked me again when I was paying. My niece reminded me we never did get the water we asked for. read more

I love this salon! Been going here for three years. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Every single stylist has immense talent and can transform anyone into a movie star! I go to Alex for all my hair needs. He is the best. He took me from pastel pink with dark roots to a beautiful neutral blonde with a shadow root and did not give up until I had reached my hair goals. Alex knows what will look best and will give you his honest opinion... But at the same time he takes in to consideration what the client wants because that is the most important thing. In town for a weekend, I was desperate to find a threading place. Using my trusty Yelp App, I found Tuana's and it was close enough. I called and they said they could accommodate me right away for a full face threading. Hori did one of the best threading services I've ever gotten. She was so fast and so thorough! Normally when I go to Indian salons they do a simple shaping of my eyebrows but Hori went above and beyond by tweezing and using scissors to really shape them. I walked out with movie star eyebrows and my face was super clean. Minimal pain. The salon itself was staffed with very friendly folks and the space was inviting and warm. I highly recommend Hori for your threading if you live in town! read more

I really enjoyed this Salon. I normally frequent another high end salon in Ft Collins, however I decided to try something new! My friend comes here and has fine thin hair as I do and I always love how it looks when she gets it done. I booked an appt with Nikki and she did a wonderful job. Currently I have really damaged shorter hair due to pregnancy and she made it look glossy and healthy again. I love the cut and the color looks beautiful. Yeah, it is expensive, but so is anywhere that is going to do a good job. You get what you pay for. You also wear your hair everyday and I feel it is something worth investing in. With that said however, I probably won't buy hair products here again as I did think that it was a bit overpriced. I recommend this salon if you are looking for a wonderful experience. I made the mistake early on in my pregnancy of trying to "budget" my hair by going somewhere cheap and ended up having to get it fixed at an outrageous price. So, lesson learned. I am in my third trimester and I really needed a pick me up with my hair and I am really glad I did. Now I can enjoy my appearance through the last weeks of my pregnancy and enjoy an easy, low maintenance cut until I go back in a few months. Overall I am extremely happy that I found Nikki and plan on continuing my hair journey with her! read more

I have had a hard time finding a reputatable, decently priced salon here in Fort Collins. Recently a friend turned me on to Kazim at Tuana and BAM - my opinion of the beauty scene in Fort Collins changed for good!! Kazim took the time to not only listen to what I wanted but also responded to my request for input. He both cut and colored my hair, and it changed in an instant from a shapeless, grey-laden mess to something people compliment me on regularly and an image that actually suits my personality! I can say with confidence that no matter where in Colorado I end up, a trip to see Kazim will always be my plan when my hair needs new life. Thank you Kazim, and all of his amazingly helpful staff. So I got my hair done a little over two weeks ago and my hair is still bleeding! I went in to just get a cut then the stylist convinced me to get a color as well (which was fine cause I was in need even though I usually don't like pushy sales). She put the color on my hair, set me up at a dryer, set a timer, then went away. Then proceeded to cut some other guy's hair, which, once again, was fine because I was waiting and I know the show must go on. So my timer goes off...and I wait...and wait. And I start listening to her talk to this other customer about going out and what they were going to do the next weekend etc etc. Meanwhile I've been sitting for 10 minutes and my scalp is starting to itch. Finally she comes back over and finishes up my hair. I was going to write a really good review because I was content with the final product (at the time) but things change. I've been dying my hair dark red/burgundy for about three years now and yes, it has a tendency to bleed, but not this much. I only wash my hair once a week and since the appointment I have only gotten it wet twice (one rinse, one shampoo/conditioner). I read something online about how if you let dye process too long it bleeds more so that's why I brought up the above issue. Don't get me wrong, I love the haircut and color I got, but it's annoying that it keeps on fading (so who knows what it will look like tomorrow or the day after etc) AND my sheets and clothes and everything is getting this red/orange tint. I had to wash my shower after washing my hair because the whole bottom was orange. Annoying. I expected more after paying $100 for a color. read more

I got a really horrible hair cut at another expensive salon in town and just couldnt stand it any more and went to this salon. My stylist was Kayla. I went armed with a couple of pictures of what I was looking for, I have med-long hair and wanted something professional but not soccer mom. She delivered. The cut is awesome, I dare say almost the best I have ever had. And best of all she LISTENED to me! This seems to be a tall order for some stylists. I will say that based on the other reviews on here I am not risking other services here. I am thrilled to find a stylist that works for me, but if they attempted to rip me off with color etc I would never go back, and then I would be without a stylist again! read more

I had two haircuts here with Layla. Near the end of the second cut, she asked me if I liked the way it looked and if I thought anything needed touching up. A pretty standard customer service question for a stylist to ask their client. I responded (politely, I thought) by saying I wanted my bangs to be blended better with my layers. To this, Layla said "You're so weird". Uuuhh excuse me? I answered your question and you tell me I'm weird. NOT ok. I never went back, and I've been going to Studio Be Salon for over a year and a half now. I recently received a "We Miss You!" card from Tuana, but it was too little too late. So, I wrote a review about 4 months ago of this place. Since then, I've heard dozens of things from several people (including my hair stylist!!!!) who have said that the owner is notoriously known for wrecking hair. My stylist told me she has personally fixed about 7 or 8 women who have had their hair butchered at Tuana. The owner was very nice and very confident with his work, but used a RAZOR to cut ALL of my hair. He chopped layers up to my ears, I was mortified and still am. It still has not grown out or leveled out. My layers are choppy and butchered, (I didn't even want layers) and the length is still super short (neither of which I wanted when I went originally.) I had to go to my stylist and have her fix my hair and she ended up having to take off like 3 more inches to try to somewhat even out the layers. To this day, 4 months later, I still hate my hair and am miserable every day. Don't come here. read more

Really really enjoyed my experience there. I am not good at picking out random salons in random places and I do rely alot on reviews when traveling. But a haircut????? That's serious business and I usually need a word of mouth referral. However I loved Jessica and I LOVE my haircut. Being a service industry at its core, I expect that any salon puts their customer first. I have had two encounters with this salon and both have ended with a bad taste in my mouth. The first time was a few years ago, I purchased a groupon just for a haircut. I go in and there was a male stylist working on my hair. One-he took forever as he was sitting down in his chair practically examining every strand that he wanted to cut. But several times while I was there he told the receptionist not to schedule him with the groupon haircuts because it's not fair to him for the time he takes, etc. He told her this several times IN FRONT of me. I'm sorry that you don't agree with the salon putting out groupons to get more customers in, but my visit was essentially his chance to prove his skills and get me hooked on returning to him. Instead he made me feel out of place. Now while the haircut turned out great (except for his styling, he added ridiculous curls to the point where I just looked weird, all the while he talked about how he didn't understand why everyone likes straight hair. He didn't once ask me if I wanted that much volume or curls on my head). The second time was just about a month ago. I ended up deciding to give them another chance. I did the highlights package. So I went in and for what I wanted to do, I guess I needed to pay an extra $40 dollars to do, even though now I just feel like that didn't make sense on top of the full highlight package. Well I had blonde hair and I wanted to get closer to my natural root which is a dark blonde/brown. So she decided to foil some of the strands that would remain as highlights, so she bleached my roots and conditioned the ends. After that she just colored the rest of my hair the dark color that was closer to my roots. I noticed after my hair was all done and dried that my roots were popping out of my head, in a horrible tacky way. (I told her I wanted everything to blend, and have some dimension). Well I got home, thought I'd let the color sit to see if maybe it would settle down a bit. Here I am looking through my hair finding bright blonde color splotches at my roots and then the rest of the strands slowly faded into the other color. I did wait a few weeks to go back in. Here's what makes me so upset: I go back in, she apparently doesn't see the issue (first rule of customer service-the customer is always right, and if you dont agree you need to at least find some middle ground). Well she simply tones the hair and it doesn't do the trick. My problem is I would have said something but she already didn't see the problem in the first place--it was there guys. She OVERPROCESSED my virgin roots. They ended up being blonder for 2 reasons: 1: it was virigin hair 2: It's right next to the heat of my head and that bleach mix stayed on my head even longer than the color itself. She tells me:Oh well sometimes you see something more on your hair than other people do--which makes me think she's trying to say it was all in my head. When she partially dried it to see if the problem was still there-she was quite obviously trying to convince me it wasn't and saying that it was a longer process to go through and change it. With her comments I just felt completely out of place saying anything-again feeling out of place in this salon. (Can I also mention I've never had anyone so lazily try to brush my hair when it was wet. She didn't worry about brushing the ends first and working her way up-she went straight for the roots--painful --But here I am again, not good at speaking up). Here's the kicker:I had to pay for the product because, as she said, "It was fix". So my thing is, I came in because she made a mistake on my hair and instead it turns out that she just continued to think in her head that I just didn't like the highlights. I DIDN'T LIKE THE HIGHLIGHTS YOU DID BECAUSE YOU OVERPROCESSED MY ROOTS AND I LOOKED LIKE A CHEAP CHEETAH. Yes I left her a tip for the time, I regret that now. I think most important thing to know about this salon is: they wouldn't know customer service if it walked in the front door. I don't like feeling out of place at salons and I don't feel that way to often at some of the other salons in fort collins, I always have here. Also, their obsession with foiling is obviously not working. PEOPLE understand that foiling isn't necessarily the best option. It's the MOST expensive option, something that costs a lot of money to keep up. Salons that push this, well we know where their priorities are. And I want to let you all know, I have had my hair looked at by others, to get an actual professional opinion on what happened, I'm not making these things up. I guess I should have known not to trust a "European" salon that could get me in for such a long highlighting process on short notice. N.B. I didn't mention names because, in my opinion, it's half the salon's fault. They create this attitude in the stylists that they teach. read more

It was definetly in the cards that I found this place. About a two years ago I moved into an apartment building next to the Fort Collins Tuana location. I walked past this place once and thought it would be a good idea to stop by..... I started going to Heidi and Kazim and was very VERY happy with not only my hair but the service and professional fun-hip-sexy atmosphere! I have since moved to Denver and am now seeing Ergun. He's an AMAZING stylist as well as an incredible person. I love both the Fort Collins and the Denver staff and especially love how much they care about your hair and more importantly about you. read more

I have short hair, yet it was still $160.00 for highlighting with two colors. That's pretty overpriced, even for a "premiere" salon! (And I've been to other places.) Be prepared for hard sell tactics for their product (Bumble & Bumble...now owned by Estee Lauder, the same company that owns Aveda products, which costs less.) Also, their other employees will try to sell you on *their* services. More than once, I have almost been overcharged for services. (I caught the mistakes, fortunately.) I've also been left in the chair way too long because of stacking (while the color burned on my scalp, yet no one even noticed.) The color *was* nice, but the retouch was just so-so. I was told I would get a retouch most times, and just the all over twice a year. Yet, they made an appointment for all over highlights and I've only had one retouch. I had THE worst experience with the owner Kazim at this salon. Beware , Ladies if you want to get any type of hair color by him!! He babbles on and on about this European way of hair doing highlights. It's no "European" way. It's just plain BS, to make you think he's doing something really big and different in hair coloring. What he DID do, was to ignore any thoughts I had on what I wanted, and worst of all, didn't even ask. I did show him a picture of my hair with previous highlights and he did glance at it. So began the 3 hour abuse throughout my entire time with him. My head was shoved this way and that way to administer the foils. He was rough, and I'm not joking. I think he was pissed because he knew I had him on all of his BS he was trying to administer to me about what he was doing, and that he was unable to up-sell any of his products to me, to include hair extensions. He was so full of it and himself. He was arrogant and rude. The wash bowl was a whole other experience . He plopped my head back into the bowl. No towel or anything for cushioning. It hurt my neck & I expressed that. It made him even more upset. He roughly washed my hair and did not condition it. I was tearing up at this point. Getting back to his station, my hair color was revealed and I was mortified. It was brassy, orangish color at the top and a different shade on the ends. I swear, HE knew he f'd up, because he offered immediately to put a toner on it. The toner did take some of the harsh brassy out, but the hair color remains the same. THE worst highlights I've ever had. In addition, my hair was frail to begin with and it's in worse condition now. He put bleach on top of my existing bleach, which I know fried my hair. My personal image is very important to me and I was devastated walking away from this salon because of my experience with the owner. Needless to say, he did not charge me. I wouldn't have paid anyway. My neck is still sore after the experience. If I was the suing type, I'd come after that guy hard! I hope he reads this. read more

I came in for a full highlight with Deja and she was by far the best hair stylist that I've had!! I previously went to studio B thinking that the money would give me what I wanted and that wasn't exactly the case so I came here and couldn't be happier with my visit. Go to this place and request a consult with Kazim. He'll criticize your hair and shame you into a cut/style/color using a fancy European sales accent. If you don't have the good sense to walk away, he'll proceed to ruin your hair for an outrageously over-priced amount. You can then go pay to have another stylist fix the mess he caused.
