I rarely leave negative reviews, but unfortunately my experience with Tuffy's Appliance in Santa Maria has been very disappointing. I purchased multiple refrigerator units from them for rental properties, and within the first five months, both units experienced recurring freezer issues multiple times. To their credit, the company did send someone out and attempted to diagnose the problems, which I appreciated. However, once it became clear that the issues were ongoing and not easily resolved, I was essentially told there was nothing more they were willing or able to do. No replacement options, no meaningful solution, and no real effort to stand behind the products they sold. As a customer who purchased multiple units and tried to work through the process professionally and patiently, I expected a higher level of accountability and customer support. Unfortunately, I was left feeling completely on my own with defective appliances and no resolution. That experience is why I'm leaving a one-star review. read more

I had trouble with my refrigerator that was only a few years old. Tuffy came out and within a couple minutes knew what the problem was and would get the part from his shop. He returned right away, put in the part and all is good. Let me say he kind, helpful and the least expensive appliance repair man I have ever dealt with. 6 stars if I could. read more

Bought a refrigerator which needed to be fixed within two months. Tuffy needed to come out twice to fix it and promised if there were other issues, he would repair them even after 3 month warranty. There needed to be another repair not long thereafter. I sold the refrigerator, which immediately needed another repair, and Tuffy would not do the repair as I sold it. Their refrigerators are priced higher than what you could get from another seller, and for the hassle, it doesn't seem like it's worth it. But I recommend donating your refrigerator there if you need a place to send your fridge. read more

I would highly recommend Tuffy's. My fridge broke while I was out of town, I found out about it on Christmas Eve. All of the food had to be thrown away. Sal came to diagnose the fridge on Christmas Eve, then installed a temporary fan while we waited for the part to come in, and came back a third time to install the correct part. They saved me from losing all my food. My 22 year old refrigerator finally gave up the ghost on a FRIDAY at 3pm. Of course, right? It was FULL of food from a delivery the day before. The frozen stuff had begun to thaw. So I called a big retail store about a new refrigerator and it was $1,300 + $225 delivery. I just had back surgery and am on crutches unable to do much. I called Tuffy's and Robert answered. He was immediately very helpful and ran around their store and shop getting answers to my questions. Lucky for me, they had some good side-by-side refrigerators in their showroom. I went over there and inspected them. He was very accommodating and answered even more of my questions and helped me with providing more info and details about the different units they had. Best of all, he had staff get the refrigerator on a delivery truck right then and there. I had to pause them so I had a chance to get back home and empty my old refrigerator. The delivery showed up 20 minutes later! Then, It turns out my kitchen door was not wide enough for the refrigerators! But the guy did not complain or make a big deal! Instead, he got right to work and removed the doors from the refrigerator in 5 minutes had them off. He was then able to swap the refrigerators. No fuss, no muss! Amazing service. They saved me from losing a ton of food and helped me when I needed it the most. I'm on crutches due to a back surgery and no way could I have done any of that myself right now. The price was $450 cash for the great shape pre-owned refrigerator including the tax and delivery and a 90 day warranty. $450 for everything. Very happy. Thank you Tuffy's Appliance! read more

Called for service two days before Christmas for a gas leak in my dryer. Was told they could not get out to my house until the following week. I thanked them, but told them I could not wait and that I would have to call around for someone that could come earlier. We hung up. They called back and told me that they would come tomorrow. They wanted to make sure I was going to be at the house since it was Christmas Eve. I said, I'll forego going out of town to see my family if they were really going to come. They said not to worry and that they would. They never showed up. I called another company that said they would show up first thing the day after Christmas, so I couldn't leave even on Christmas day because I wanted to make sure I was home in time the following morning. Tuffy's didn't even give me the courtesy of calling to say they couldn't make it. Days later and they still haven't. Thanks for ruining the holidays for me Tuffy. read more

I first connected with PAM who arranged the pick up of my old fridge. Within two days I met with OUTSTANDING employees John and David. They were pleasant, completely efficient and extremely careful when moving the fridge out of the kitchen to out side. These two gentlemen have an incredible work ethic you don't see much anymore. We've used them several times, first go around we had an employee replace a bad belt in our dryer, two days later-it went out again. They came out- actually repaired it (correctly) free of charge. said they fired the employee for basically not knowing what he was doing. I'm a fan! Tuffy came out on a Wednesday afternoon (we called the day before) to checkout our washing machine that was not doing its mandated duty. I could tell by Tuffy's facial expression the moment he walked in the wash room and saw our Whirlpool Cabrio washer that he was resigned to its ultimate fate. In short, Tuffy was impressed the washer made it 7 years w/out self-terminating its service. He then explained to me the problem, and told me it wasn't worth the price of his maintenance work, and that we'd be better off w/ a new machine. My mom, (81 years old), called this company and Tuffy sold her a used stackable washing machine and dryer for over $900. Supposedly it came with a 90-day warranty. The dryer has NEVER worked property and has NO heat, not to mention makes a terrible loud noise!!! My mom called him and asked him to come pick it up and bring her $900+ back. Tuffy refused to service the unit even though she had an agreement with him. He also refused to come pick it up. He has not returned any phone calls to date. My mom wants her money back and wants these units picked up immediately. My mom is in her 80's and doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. In the State of California that is considered"Elder Abuse". Unfortunately I, her daughter, so not live in state of this would be a different reporting! Nobody deserves this kind of treatment! A 4.6 Google rating? Really? Can someone say probably fake reviews? Was fixed same day. No charge. Their prices are fair and they've even given advice to us with regards to repairs on appliances that were not their product. BEWARE This company will send an Independant contractor (not a company employee) to your home. I called for service in August 2018 and a repairman named Sal Martinez came out. He immediately told me that my refrigerator needed a fan motor. Within a few minutes he changed his mind and said my refrigerator would need a "new board". Sal quoted me $69.95 for the service call which included the labor and $200 for the new board. He said he needed to order the part and return in a few days. I let him know that I had talked to my landlord and he was going to cover this expense but wanted me to save the old part. Sal came out and did the work while I was busy in another room. I asked for the part as he was preparing to walk out. He went out and got it from his truck and it was not a board but a fan motor which actually costs about $20. I asked him about this and he then tells me that he installed the board and it's not what the refrigerator needed so he installed a fan but he had forgot to tell me. I asked him to clarify my invoice and asked if this fan motor was $200. He said he would let me have it for the same price. What a dishonest RIP OFF! I didn't have time to look up the part price yet as I was busy with a friend that was visiting. After I called another repairman and confirmed I had been RIPPED OFF I cancelled the check I had given Sal. I called Tuffy the next day and told him I needed a fan motor. He quoted me $30 for the part!!! Then I told him what had happened. Tuffy apologized and said that he didnt realize Sal was ripping people off! Said he would handle it and get back to me. Later Tuffy sent me a text saying he hadn't seen Sal yet. I was glad he was going to take responsibility for his DISHONEST independant contractor. THEN the next day a get a call from Tuffy's "office manager" telling me that Tuffy wanted me to send in a new check for the balance since by giving Sal a check I must have been in agreement with the RIP OFF price but I could deduct the $30 I paid to cancel the check. I was in shock and told him that TUFFY would have to SUE me because this wasn't right! I guess TUFFY had a change of heart. About 3 days later I get a text from Tuffy telling me he wanted to come over on Monday and return all of my money and make sure my fridge was working properly and make everything right. WOW! Another change of heart!! I asked him If we could meet a different day as I was out of town. And guess what happens next? I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM TUFFY AGAIN! BEWARE!! AMAZING place to get an appliance from. Everyone there gave me great advice, suggestions, and showed me which appliance is best bang for my buck. People around town have told me about Tuffy's as well. Cheapest place in town that you can trust. They tell it like it is, not trying to sell you. I did not know my Lowes dryer (which was broken out of the box) only had a 48 hour return policy so I am so glad they told me that. Herbie and Don were very friendly and so helpful. They transported and installed the dryer right after I picked it out. I was shocked they were able to make that happen in the same day within the hour! They took out my old dryer and even hauled away other old dryers I had out back. So kind of them. We were able to check to see if it works before they left. They noticed my vent was clogged out back and made a local recommendation for that as well, which I appreciate. If anything goes wrong, I can call them and they will fix it or replace it. I am happy.
