Best fish n chips ever!! So light, crispy, and tender! I haven't eaten fish in chips for a while since I had a bad experience somewhere else. I've seen tug boat for years and haven't been in so long. My dad loves fish n chips so when I was visiting we made it a trip to go try it again. The restaurant was crowded with people dining in and getting take out. Tug boat was delicious! Compared to the other restaurant...this was way better. The other place over cooked the fish and was mostly breading. Tug boat's fish was tender and flakey! We ordered enough to eat and take home. When reheating the fries in the air fryer they turned out great! Crispy and light! I'm craving tug boat was we speak.. Definitely recommend!

SOLID FISH AND CHIPS SPOT!! Ordered the Fish and Prawns combo which came with 1 fish, 3 prawns ($12.45) and a small cup of their clam chowder ($6.75 for a small). The fish is SO tender and flaky, it was practically falling apart and the batter is light, airy and so crispy! The fish was longer than my whole face and it was a good thickness which was a plus. The tartar sauce here is SO GOOD. Creamy with a hint of dill, they really have their sauce down here. I thought the shrimp would be overcooked since other fish and chips spots I've been to do not have good shrimp for some reason but BOY, was I dead wrong! THE SHRIMP WAS SO GOOD, Y'ALL HAVE TO GET THE SHRIMP. It reminded me of shrimp tempura, with how airy the batter was and the shrimp was nice and bouncy inside! So addicting to eat, I wish I got more. The cocktail sauce was so good too--slightly savory with a horseradishy flavor that made the shrimp even tastier! The fries were on a thicker side and reminded me of Burger King fries. Nothing special but also not horrible. ASK FOR KETCHUP!! The clam chowder is not thick in the slightest and has more potatoes than clams. If you're not a big seafood flavor person you'll like this, as it reminded me of potato soup. It was decent but I wouldn't get it again at $6.75 for a small, I can get a can of Progresso for cheaper! My only minor complaint was a slight oily aftertaste with the fish and shrimp. It wasn't bad by any means, but it did taste like the oil could've been changed a bit more recently. I thought that 1 fish and 3 prawns wouldn't be enough food for me but I was so full afterwards! Great service too, just make sure to ask for some ketchup and hot sauce if you're ordering food for takeout.

I kept hearing about this place and decided to stop by here on 3/22/26 right when they opened. I was the first one in line and ordered the 4pc fish & chips and the 8 piece lumpia. After I placed my order, within the next 5 minutes the place was packed! (I recommend going early) It took a little while for me to get my food but it's worth the wait because everything is made fresh to order. You get one cup of the sweet chili sauce with your lumpia and 4 cups of tartar sauce for the fish. They are very generous with their portions and the fish was huge! I ate 2 fish, 4 pieces of lumpia, some fries and I was already full. There are tables inside as well for people who want to eat there, but the place is a little small. Overall the food was great and I'll definitely be coming back to try other things on the menu!

Little fish & chips shop that punches way above its weight class. We ordered clam chowder, 1-pc fish n chips and scallops, fish n chips. Everything was cooked to order and came out of the kitchen piping hot. The batter was light and the fish and scallops were tender and succulent. The chowder was loaded with clams and the serving size was very large, my 1pc order was 1.25 pieces. Super nice people working behind the counter and fryer too. Definitely visiting again!

Finally had the chance to try this place despite living in the area for years! It's a hidden gem that's Asian family owned. Lots of parking and lots of eating outside and inside. I placed a to go over the phone and my order was ready in 10 minutes. I ordered the Tugboat for $30 which is 6 fried fish (pollack) and French fries. I was very happy with the serving size and the smell was amazing while I was driving home with the food in the back. They gave lots of sauce for the fish too! Everything was so good! The fish had a such a light crispy batter but felt so filling as well. The fries were soft but needed more salt as they were under seasoned... Overall, delicious food and a good experience!

You should literally eat here once a week if youre in the area. The prices are low for what you get and the fish pieces are the size of a childs arm. Get the 2pc and you got one to go and theres plenty of fries. Everything was made to order which is important and its battered thin so its not greasy

Nice and crispy had to try them twice! Service was great: simple interactions and no fluff. Ambiance is small mom and pop vibes. I brought a stroller which they are too small for (people are still so accommodating) but I'm going to carry my son next time. Tartar sauce is really good. The clam chowder isn't the greatest but everything else is good. You can't really mess fried food too badly but that batter is really good.

HANDS DOWN BEST FISH AND CHIPS I EVER HAD! the fish was fried fresh and the pieces are huge. staff is very friendly and the place is clean. i highly recommend you get the fish and chips it's the best thing here! you won't be disappointed! the fish is fresh and tastes great. we also got some fried oysters on the side that were yummy as well!

As long as you nail the crispy light batter and juicy/not fishy smelling seafood fry, you deserve a 5 star review in my books! It's not easy to find perfect fish and chips, and it's even more difficult to find a place as affordable as Tugboat Fish and Chips! For $41 dollars, we were able to get 8 fried shrimps, 4 lightly battered pollock fillets, a ginormous basket of beautifully cut and fried fries, and a bountiful side of calamari! Seriously, that's a steal!! I placed my order for 12:00pm-12:30pm since that was the only timeframe available for pick up (they open at 11:30am), but I was able to ask the lady upfront to make my order asap! It's also crazy that within 5 minutes of opening, they had a flock of folks scrambling in for their fried foods! Everything was perfectly fried and not fishy, as mentioned previously!! The fish was juicy, the shrimps were crisp and crunchy, and the calamari had a nice chew, along with the huge pile of fries! I seriously think their large fries combo is 1000% worth every dollar. You could definitely feed 4 people with that fry amount, lol. In any case, this place is a no frills and all good eats kind of establishment. If you're looking for an affordable place to get mouthwatering fish and chips, please check out Tugboat! Will be back again the next time I want a fish and chips fix! The only thing that would've been nice is if they salted their items, but it might be to avoid over salting their food and allowing patrons to salt the foods themselves!

This is a hole in a wall in the shopping plaza. And yet, the quality of their fish was superb, the batter was light and so crispy. The portion was also generous. The fries were ok they were not heavy salted and that's fine. I would highly recommend this place for its great quality and price of the food!

    Kevin P.

For what it is, it's okay. Parking is amazing in this plaza. The batter was crispy but no flavor to it, just excess oil. The fish isn't fresh and lacks a bit of flavor. Fries could be a bit crispier, but the star of the show had to be the fried oysters and popcorn shrimp. Every bite was fantastic and not too overly oily.

The garlic fries were cooked to the perfect level of crispiness, while the lobster garlic noodles were flavorful, savory, and packed with garlic goodness. The seafood itself was fresh and good quality, but I found the House Special Mild sauce a little underwhelming. I was hoping for more depth and flavor, but most of what I tasted was a mild kick of heat. While it wasn't bad, it didn't have the rich, buttery, and well-seasoned flavor profile that I typically look for in a seafood boil sauce. Service was great throughout our visit. We were seated promptly, our food arrived quickly, and any requests we had were fulfilled without issue. The staff was attentive and made the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. I also appreciated the restaurant's nautical theme. The decor featured fishing nets, ship-inspired accents, and other sea-themed elements that helped create a fun and immersive atmosphere. Overall, I'm glad we gave this place a try. The garlic noodles and fries were delicious, and the service was excellent. While I would probably choose other seafood boil spots in the future, this was still a solid experience and worth trying at least once.

I feel like he should've at least walked over and confirmed with his manager because the manager was there onsite. There was also no price listed for the Pacific Caesar salad. So the server finally got back to me with the price. My friend said that she had just gotten it with chicken. The server said that adding chicken or salmon would be $8 for either one. However, also incorrect! Online it shows that chicken is only $6. (hello, fish is always more expensive, especially salmon.) I didn't trust what he said, so I decided to skip that dish. My friend had said it was really good too. Oh well. I also didn't appreciate how when I went to pay the 22% was also marked as a default tip, so I would assume he ticked that. This is the first time that I've had service that has been subpar. Almost every other time the servers have been outstanding. I felt like the waiter should've double checked a few things have not been lazy about it. A few months ago, my friend and I also went and they had a different menu. It was three for $16 or something. He also said he didn't have that today either. And he claimed there was no such menu. So maybe they got rid of it. However, it is still listed online? My friend had got the tacos before and she loved those so I'm posting that picture here as well but this was the prior visit in the spring.

I' had my eye on California Fish Grill for a while, ever since one opened very close to me…read more.. This location is not it, but I was in the area and thought I'd give it a try. My buddy was also craving some Fish n Chips as well. Good size venue with a decent amount of seating. Parking is not an issue, with plenty of spaces in the plaza. Use the kiosk in the front to order and wait for your number to be called. This is a fast casual restaurant, so it's open seating. The interior and the tables were clean. Service was very friendly. The staff were very helpful and informational. They gave us extra sauce when we needed and were on top of everything. They took away our plates and cleaned out the table as soon as we left. #FishGrill: ~ LOBSTER NACHOS - 3.5/5 A heaping amount of food. I thought it could do with a bit more Lobster meat. There were tons of chips. Corn chips, wild-caught lobster, avocado, roasted corn, green onion, lomi tomato, diced chilies, cream sauce, green goddess & dynamite sauce. ~ FRIED CATFISH w/ Fire Roasted Street Corn - 4.5/5 Reminds me of NOLA. An excellent fried Catfish; crispy, mild and flaky without being overly oily and heavy. I thought the catfish could be a bit meatier portion wise. Grilled available as well. The Roasted Street Corn was perfect as well. ~ French Fries - 4/5 Brilliant Fries. Simple, crispy, slightly salty, just about perfect. Solid spot. I was impressed with the Fish and Chips as well, lightly battered, tender and crispy and it didn't make me feel bloated or lethargic after I ate. I'll definitely be back to check out the rest of the menu...

Too bad you can't add to the waitlist beforehand. We ended up getting seated at our table around 7:50pm This location is not as big as the other SJ location but it is slightly less busy than that one since it's further out. They have a white board near the door that lists the seafood that they're out of for the day, which is helpful to note. Menu and pricing is available through the QR code on the table We ordered 2lbs of shrimp and 1 lb of crawfish in medium spice with the whole shabang to share between 2 people. The seafood boil came out hot and within 10 mins but we felt like it wasn't marinaded into the seafood, potato's and corn enough. Portion and spice wise was perfect though. We were hoping to order garlic noodles but was a little disappointed it wasn't on their menu. Our host was attentive though and came by to check on us and give us more gloves

I was really disappointed with our visit. I haven't been to The Boiling Crab in years--probably 7…read moreyears or more. One reason is that I don't live in the San Jose area anymore, and another is that there are now so many seafood boil spots around since Boiling Crab really started the trend. One positive right away: there was no long wait. We arrived around 8pm and were seated immediately, which was great. I remember the days when we'd have to put our name down and walk around Target while waiting for our table. I do wish they offered combo bags like a lot of other seafood boil places do now, since that's always a hit. Instead, we ordered 3 pounds of shrimp with whole-sha-bang sauce in mild. The shrimp themselves were great--nice and big, not the tiny peanut-sized ones you sometimes get. The flavor was also really good. However, the "mild" tasted much spicier than I remembered. From past visits, mild always had a small kick but was still pretty manageable. This honestly tasted closer to medium. My boyfriend politely asked one of the servers if he could get a small side of garlic butter because the sauce was spicier than expected. She immediately responded that it would be $5 for extra sauce, and the way it was said came off pretty rude. We understand that there's an option to make the bag "extra saucy" for an additional charge, but he wasn't asking for extra sauce for the whole bag--just a small side to balance out the spice. Even a simple response like "I'm sorry it came out spicier than expected" would have gone a long way. I've worked in customer service for over 15 years, and I've always believed in "kill them with kindness." We weren't rude at all--we just mentioned that it seemed spicier than mild. In the end, we decided to just skip the extra sauce. Again, the flavor was still good, but to me this definitely tasted more like medium. When we got our check, a different server asked how everything was. My boyfriend mentioned that the sauce was spicier than mild, and she responded with, "Oh no, I'm sorry it wasn't exactly what you wanted." We told her it wasn't her fault since we had already mentioned it earlier, and she just gave us a sympathetic look. Overall, the food itself was good, and I'd probably give it a 4 for taste, but the lack of customer service knocked the experience down for me. I understand it was later in the evening and they still had a full lobby, but a little kindness and attentiveness would have made a big difference.
