My boyfriend and I come to Crab Bay all the time, and there's a reason we keep coming back! The service is always amazing. The workers are incredibly sweet, caring, and funny, and they always make an effort to have conversations with us and make us feel welcomed. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers and make everyone feel comfortable. We always order the shrimp, and they are HUGE compared to other places. They're also very generous with the portions and often give us even more than we ask for, which we really appreciate. Tonight was another great experience. The owner was there and generously gave everyone free shrimp fried rice, which was such a kind gesture. Our waitress was also wonderful and constantly made sure everyone was doing okay. When we were ready to leave, he even packed our food to go for us without us having to ask. Crab Bay has great food, amazing portions, and most importantly, genuinely kind people who make you feel like a valued customer. We always enjoy coming here and will definitely continue to come back. I came here for the first time while visiting from out of state because The Crab Bay is such a popular spot that I had heard so much about on social media. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. When we first arrived, the atmosphere was nice and we were excited to finally try the food. We ordered the gumbo, which was actually delicious, along with snow crab legs, Dungeness crab legs, shrimp and sides. The food itself had some good flavor, but the experience quickly went downhill. The seafood sauce was extremely runny and kept sliding everywhere. They didn't provide us with a tray, and when we asked for one, we were told they were out. We were also told they were out of king crab legs and dessert. On top of that, we were constantly dealing with flies landing around us and on our food. We eventually had to switch tables because it became so frustrating. What concerned me the most was the water pitchers being used to refill customers' glasses. We noticed that the pitchers were sitting out in an open area near the front of the restaurant. Later that day, both my boyfriend and I started feeling extremely sick and began throwing up. I obviously cannot say for certain what caused us to become sick, but given everything we experienced at the restaurant, it was very concerning and left us questioning the cleanliness and food-safety practices. We traveled out of state specifically to try this restaurant because of how highly it is talked about online, so this was incredibly disappointing. I've genuinely never had an experience this bad at a restaurant. The gumbo was good, and I really wanted to love this place, but the cleanliness concerns, flies, unavailable items, runny sauce, and the fact that both of us became sick afterward completely overshadowed the positives. I took my buddy to the crab bay as i had won a $100 gift card on Instagram from a good influencer. We ordered the middle package which was plenty for two. We had crab, shrimp, clans, sausage, potatoes, and corn. We also ordered garlic noodles, garlic bread, and a couple extra corns. We chose the house size which is all the sauces combined. It was absolutely delicious !!! We barely ate the garlic noodles which were great and a lot of it. I ended up taking the noodles home with a could pieces of potatoes and sausage with all the sauce. We came here on a Friday night and it was not that busy, we got seated about 10 mins after we arrived. We got the clams, crawfish and lobster. Everything was good except the lobster was not fresh. The lobster did not taste fresh at all. It had a strong, unpleasant smell and a fishy taste, and the texture was rubbery and off. For the price, I expected much better quality. It appears there is a large room for parties which takes up a lot of their space. For food, we ordered combo 1 which was a great deal in my opinion! I liked that we got to mix and match the seafood. We got the house sauce at spicy level. The sauce was thick and creamy. It coated everything very well! However, it was not spicy at all to me. We also ordered the garlic noodles and the calamari. The garlic noodles just tasted like cheese and milk, not enough salt and garlic. I would not get the garlic noodles again. The calamari however was very yummy! We enjoyed it a lot and ran out of sauce way too early. Lastly, we ordered the ube coffee. It just tasted like a sweet Vietnamese coffee. Ube is a hard flavor to maintain. We found the spot searching for crab boil on social media and it did not disappoint. 1) everything that touched our mouths was amazing. We split a combo 2 which was plenty of food but added an extra pound of shrimp, because why not. The flavor missed no steps as it packed a punch. 2) every single person we interacted with at the establishment was kind, courteous and attentive 3) the price point was way less than expected for so much food. The staff here are super friendly, I forgot my soda at the table and it got tossed out but they gave my wife a free one which was very nice of them. Service like that makes a big difference. We ordered a pound of crawfish, shrimp and mussels with the house special sauce mild. The seafood was flavorful and above average compared to other places we have tried. For appetizers we had the cornbread which was unfortunately dry, the mac n cheese was alright and nothing special, but the gumbo was amazing. The crawfish were impressively big and perfectly cooked--not overdone at all. So good! The house sauce had great flavor even at mild heat, with a little kick that added just enough depth. Next time, I'm definitely getting a side of crawfish with medium spice! Customer service was wonderful. I was really craving some seafood boil, so I had to come back again. I ended up taking it to go, but the food was still super tasty. The wait wasn't long either, which is awesome--means they get your food out on time. I got two of the combo 1 plates, which can have 3lbs of crawfish, clams, mussels, shrimp, or headless shrimp. Good food and service but the kitchen forget my girlfriend's mussels, so she had to call a server over and have the kitchen cook it, making her wait an extra 10 minutes or so. A fly was buzzing over our table next to the door at the beginning of the meal but went away later on. The food was great, but my GF and I both agreed it's NOT as good as my favorite seafood boil spot, Claw Shack in North SJ. The Crab Bay's backyard boil sauce did not penetrate the shells of my headless shrimp, so the shrimp meat was bland unless I double dipped it back in the sauce, which isn't the same as marinating it. There wasn't nearly enough garlic or sauce in our bags in comparison to Claw Shack. Mussels were bomb even though they forgot them in our initial order. Shrimp, clams, crawfish, corn, sausage, and potatoes were good, but not mind-blowing in flavor or size. The calamari was damn good at the Crab Bay though and were perfect. The Cajun garlic noodles were good, but I'd pay extra for some added clams next time. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but I couldn't because there's no changing table in the restrooms. I honestly thought California required restaurants to have one, but maybe I'm mistaken. Either way, adding a changing table would make a huge difference for parents dining here. We ended up changing our daughter on the trunk of our car outside. Aside from that, the food was great and the portions were generous. Our waitress was super friendly, just not very attentive. We had to flag her down to place our order, ask another server for water, and flag her down again for the bill. It didn't bother us too much since we weren't in a rush. Combo #1: 3 lbs of shrimp in the house special sauce, plus corn and sausage for $50. Super tasty and a fair price! Garlic Noodles: A hit with everyone at the table. Update after dinner 5/31/2025: Came here with my S/O Saturday Evening. It's been a month or two since my last visit. Parking lot, full; but the foot traffic wasn't as busy as I thought it was going to be when we came in around 6:30. I'm happy we got seated immediately cuz I was hangryyyy. We were actually greeted by the restaurant manager, I believe is Tom. High emphasis on how sweet he is. He is so engaging to the guests that walks in through the doors. To talk about food, my usual order, a dozen oysters and a combo #2. I noticed prices raised over the last month, but I need to say I'm not so mad at it. Haha. The only minor issue I ran into was when my boil came in, I opened and noticed a lot of sand debris in my food. I brushed it off at first but after eating my 4th clam, I couldn't do it because it was just too much grit. I rarely make any complaints about my food, but this was a little inconvenient for me. I am happy that our server was amazing sweet about it and took my food back for a new batch. I think his name was Tim. Tall gentleman with glasses very accommodating and checked in well with us. My BF's order was actually pretty bomb. Chicken Tenders with Garlic Parmesan Fries rating a 10/10! The chicken tenders were juicy and is best with ranch sauce. Mouth watering hahhh.
