I requested an acrylic gel nail service. The last photo is my reference and the rest are what they did. The lady there didn't measure my nails to find a good size of tip extensions she'd glue on, because of this they were too small and you could see my real nail under. these hurt and i had to file down the real nail sticking out of the sides. My fingers became inflamed and although they look fine from a few feet away they look horrid up close. I gave them atleast two stars because they only charged $75 and the employees were nice. Overall, clean place with good atmosphere and prices but not great for any events or photo shoots. read more

TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE Edit: accidentally posted this on my dad's account I have been going to Tulip for 3 years now and I have recommended many people to Tulip throughout the past 3 years. However, for the past couple of months, I have noticed that the quality of their work has gone down a lot. On December 7, 2021, I went to Tulip to get a dip manicure and a gel pedicure. This was my last shot at giving them a chance to prove themselves and keep me as a loyal customer. However, the visit was straight out of hell. First of all, the lady doing my pedicure took an entire hour to prep my toenails for the gel. A pedicure should not take a whole hour... that's just ridiculous. Along with this, the lady put PIPING hot towels on my legs, which gave me 1st degree burns (picture below). I told her it was too hot and she did not take them off. During my pedicure, the lady decided to soak the dip off of my fingers. While applying the cotton and alcohol and wrapping the nail in foil, the lady was slinging the alcohol everywhere, to which it got all over my white sweatpants and stained them, which just pissed me off because it's careless. Anyways to preface, I came in with one broken nail that was already a little bloody and sore. I wanted them to soak the dip off, clip the nail, put a tip on it, and apply new dip. I knew this wouldn't be painless, however, the staff did not have any care to make me comfortable during the process. When the lady started to remove my foils, she just snatched the foil right off of my broken nail, which hurt like hell and left the nail hanging on by a thread. I held back tears and told her it was fine. I heard the lady that did my pedicure tell the lady that was going to do my manicure that I had a broken nail and to be very careful with it. The lady that was actually doing my dip manicure proceeded to do the exact same thing to the nail and rip it fully off. I was now crying in the middle of the nail salon because I was in so much pain at this point and so frustrated. Also, veryyy unsanitary practice: the lady used some clear polish on my bloody nail to stick the tip on and then just put the applicator back into the polish bottle with my blood on it. Anyways, I was fully ready to raise hell if I didn't at least get the manicure taken off. Side note: she didn't even give me a manicure... just a dip color change. So, the lady finished doing my nails and I go up to the desk to pay. She tells me that she's removing the manicure off of my total and apologizes, which I appreciate and, again, tell her that it's all fine and "things happen". Well, she proceeds to charge me $62 for a classic gel pedicure. I've been going to this salon for over 3 years. I know how much they charge for a pedicure and I also heard the lady that did my pedicure mention that it should only be $38. I said "That's not right." And the lady said, "It is right. It costs more because you got gel." At that point, I wanted to get the hell out of there so badly that I just shook my head and paid. I bawled the entire drive home. Needless to say, Tulip lost a VERY loyal customer and all of my respect. They do not deserve anyone's money. Avoid this place at all costs!! I've been coming here for years and today will be the last time. I'm not certain that the girl doing my pedicure was even licensed. If I was a betting gal, I would say NO. I originally wanted the #2 service. An hour in, she wasn't even done with the pedicure, let alone my mediocre masssge! For me, that is the best part of the experience and it was a MAJOR disappointment!! Finally at almost 1.5 hours in, another gal came to finish up and apply the polish. I opted out of the candle wax massage of my chosen option and just went with the basic #1. I come here because it's convenient but I'm done. Not even a little bit impressed. This nail salon charges manicure prices without the manicure services. They cut every corner possible. No cuticle care, no hand soak, no hand care or pampering. Charging $50-60 for a dip manicure and then dipping a small portion of the nail in the dip on the first coat to essentially save product and cut corners. I'm sure they're making money, but they are cutting corners in service to do it. Because they used a tiny amount of product my nails are already chipped and look awful. My mother and my daughter went here for a gel mani. Without checking with my mother (who was nearby in a pedi chair) they gave my nine year old child long acrylic nails -- instead of the simple GEL polish on her short natural nails, which is what she and my mom requested. The nail tech at Tulip, Tina, did an amazing job on my nails. I am a server on the weekends and work a 9-5 during the week, I also workout all the time. With that being said, my nails have been through hell and back, but still are fully in tact. I have acrylic nails with gel, and Tina is the only nail tech in Knoxville who has been able to keep the gel polish and tips still looking great nearly 2 weeks later. The past ten times I visited other nail salons in Knoxville and the gel peeled off not even a week later. Tina is a miracle worker. She did an amazing job and I will definitely be back. I went in to have it redone, and the person helping me didn't understand what I was saying. She added a base coat for the nails that were bare, but only added another layer of color for the rest. She did my nails but stopped in the middle to go work on some lady's ingrown toe nail, and then came back to finish my nails without washing her hands.....I was disgusted to say the least. Literally the rudest salon in town. The women doing my nails were speaking to each other in Spanish, which I can pick up a lot of words in, and they were talking about me the entire time. They were chatting about why I would get a regular manicure instead of gel or dip. Then, my manicurist left to start another person before even finishing my polish and told me to "dry" but she wasn't even finished painting and I sat there "drying" for 15 MINUTES until she came back and put on more coats??? read more

I have been using this nail place for several years for both manicures and pedicures. For the most part the employees are cool and distant which suits me fine. I don't go there to make friends, after all. I tip a minimum of 20% always. I usually get a thank you and sometimes a half-smile but that's it -- with rare exception. I just spent $80 on a pedicure and nail color change and to that I added my 20%. When I'd finished signing the charge receipt, I looked up to thank the girl who had done my nails and checked me out. Vanished! No thanks or come again... nothing. So I am through with Tulip Nails! Plenty of others to check out... They do a decent job, but there is no real customer service here. I observed nail techs laughing while pointing at a client's feet. The techs were laughing and speaking in their native language, which is very rude. The pedicure chairs are very ragged and dirty looking. The chairs are so worn that I hung my blouse on the torn vinyl on the armrest. They should be replaced immediately. For me, one of the purposes of getting a pedicure is to feel pampered and to have a relaxing experience. Tulip certainly does not prove this type of experience. It feels very low rent. read more

I wish I could rate less than one star. 5 friends and I walked in all together and they were busy at the moment which I understand it was going to be a wait. So my one friend and I were the only ones getting pedicures and we were told to sit....we sat for 45 mins in cold water. 3 of my other friends are started at the same time But we're all left alone at one point. Then one (and only) Caucasian friend gets sit down and started immediately while we are still sitting in cold water. My friend and I decide to get up and leave from the pedicure area but the manager insisted on us to wait even longer. So by this time it's basically an hour wait until we got our nails done. We understood and accepted apologizes. By the time we were all finished we all go to pay. We all pay full price and don't even complain about the wait because of how nicely they did our nails. the lady who did my Caucasian friend's nails ends up getting a discount because the rest of the girls and I had to wait. How in the world does that make sense?? None of us were even able to use our student discounts. Not only would I consider this place racist but very unprofessional when they have people waiting. She spent all of 2 minutes on the massage and it was not really much of a massage. She did cut back my nails and did the cuticles, but really didn't do much of a scrub on my heals. I will never come to this nail salon again! I went in for a manicure & my cuticles/fingers were butchered! I have never had someone make me bleed while giving a manicure. I was told "my hands were too dry" so that's why I was bleeding. Also, I brought my own polish & without asking they put nail polish thinner in it because the nail tech claimed it was "too thick." Thanks to this salon I now have to throw away my favorite polish because it's so thin it chips the same day I apply it, when it would last me 4-5 days before. Normally I don't post reviews but I have to let people know about this. Just went here for the first time to get a simple polish change. It was very disorganized and unclear, I was given about a minute to look through all the colors and pick one quickly. I had to repeat Polish change several times like no one understood what I was saying. Then they said they didn't have the color and then they did. All very confusing. The best part was going to pay she said $25 I asked well how much is just a manicure and she said $15... well hell I should have just gotten a manicure instead of a polish change. I chose to go to Tulip because my usual nail salon was booked up and I was leaving town so I needed to get my nails done. I walked in and was immediately helped and asked to pick out a color. As I was looking through the color options, I felt very pressured to hurry up as the nail tech that worked on me and the front desk guy were speaking to each other in an annoyed tone. I take my time and finally pick out the color. The nail tech (Tina) asked me to sit down but she didn't really tell me where. Her work surface was very dirty and there was a nail file and a few nail tips on the ground underneath me. My gut feeling was to walk out but I ignored that and sat anxiously. She asked me if I wanted my cuticles trimmed and I hesitantly agreed. She cut my cuticles down as far as possible (I have really short nails so I think she wanted to see how much nail I actually have). The cuticle trimmer was dirty but she assured me it was clean and she clipped so much off. I kept jerking my hand because it hurt and she held onto my hand tighter. Then she did the dip, which was fine. THEN she pulled out a buffer drill bit and buffed my cuticles more! All of my cuticles are red, sore, and they hurt super bad. I literally was sitting on the edge of my seat wincing at every move and she just held on tighter. Not to mention, she didn't even talk to me at all and I just felt really uncomfortable. So later that night, I noticed that my middle finger was super sore, especially in the joint area. I am pretty sure I didn't do anything to jam it, so I'm now just praying I didn't get anything... yikes... Anyway, please go to a different salon. Please don't go here. I had a very satisfactory experience. Seong was my nail tech and she was very professional and I highly recommend her. I got the delux pedi which will set you back $35. It comes with a sugar scrub and massage. The chairs were comfortable, it was clean, and it smelled good. Not like a stuffy over chemical like smell. Not the best. Right when I sat down my nail tech tapped her partner on the the shoulder and they started laughing at my feet and was speaking their native language as laughing. Then I told her NOT to massage my foot because it had a bug bite that hurt on it, and she said ok. But before I knew it she massaged my foot really hardly. It HURT!! Then she got a toothpick and randomly stuck it under my toenail really far and it left a scratch and a painful toe. After that it was getting better but she started cutting my toenails really short and that HURT! And then on my fingernails a different nail tech started working on my nails and filed my nail really short and it was scratching my finger. And of course cut my nails really short!!! This salon is horrible about speaking Vietnamese to each other while doing your nails. It is so obvious that they are talking and even laughing at and about their PAYING customers. If I could give zero stars I would. This was my second time coming to this salon. My first experience was mediocre, but because I liked their selection of colors, I came back again. (Bad mistake on my part). I made an appointment with a few of my other friends, and we were told it would be no problem. When we got there, my friend and I were told it would only be 5 minutes for a pedicure, which then turned into 40+ minutes sitting in cold water. The nail tech that greeted was very nice, but that was the only plus. There was no sense of customer service, and they had no problem with my friend and I waiting there. My low rating not only comes from how long I had to wait, but mostly from how the nail techs made us feel. We were not made welcome at all. One of the nail techs began CLAPPING at my friend while she was washing her hands, trying to get her to sit back down. One could assume that the staff is in fact racist, because they treated all of my (black) friends and I like trash, while treating our one white friend to discounts for no reason. Staff is extremely personable and go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. Salon is very clean which is always a must for me. I would give this place zero stars if I could. Let me start off by saying that I don't normally write reviews but I joined Yelp today just so I could write a review on this place. I have a nail salon that I go to regularly, but it is kind of pricey (though not as pricey as this place ended up being) and I read great reviews here on Yelp about Tulip Nails Spa, so I decided to give it a try. I am going to a beach wedding this weekend and wanted some fun nail art. I went in for a gel manicure and pedicure. First off, compared to my regular salon, the selection of gel polishes is quite limited. I almost left after just looking that their selection, but against my better judgment I decided to stay. I had to wait 20 minutes for someone to get started on my services. Granted, I did not have an appointment. However, it was 2:30 on a Wednesday afternoon and there were only two other customers in the place at the time. They seated me in the pedicure chair with no indication as to how long I would have to wait. The water was scalding hot. They adjusted the temperature but this just added to the overall negative vibe I was already getting from this place. The manicure: the color I selected was one that they recommended which ended up being really blah, definitely not a beachy color. I originally asked for glitter nail polish on my accent nail but the lady doing my manicure convinced me that putting actual rhinestones all over the accent nail would look very nice. Unfortunately I believed her. The rhinestones looked as though they would pop off if you even touched them. I asked if they would come off easily and she assured me that they would stay put. The pedicure: I already had gel on my toes. The girl started removing it with a drill. I told her I did not want her to drill my toenails because the place that I normally go to soaks them off. She acted like she hadn't drilled my actual nail, only the gel. This wasn't true because I saw her drilling my nails. After I complained, she soaked the remainder off. I told her that I wanted my hands and feet to match. Somehow the color on my toes ended up about two shades lighter than my hands (couldn't tell until I got outside in the sunlight) even though she supposedly used the same color as the girl who did my manicure. I felt like she rushed through my entire pedicure; there was barely any massage at all and she kept looking at another customer that had just walked in. I'm sorry, but I paid entirely too much for this pedicure to have the polish not match my hands and to be rushed on top of it!! I get up to the register to pay. They upcharged $10 on my fingers alone for nail art (which I am now convinced is the reason the girl wanted to do rhinestones instead of the glitter polish that I originally requested). Tip and all was $96 and I didn't even leave my standard 20% tip because the service was terrible. Before the end of the day, two rhinestones from the accent finger on my left hand had popped off, and today (just one day after my manicure) all of the gel on the accent finger on my right hand is lifting. So much for those $10 rhinestones staying put! I am livid and I know there is no way I could ever get my money back. On top of it all I'm also not crazy about the look of the rhinestones and probably would have preferred the glitter nail polish which would have been free. I will be going back to my regular nail salon tomorrow and pay to have my nails redone. First and last time I will ever visit Tulip Nails Spa! read more

My friends and I went here to get our nails done for an event and my friend got an awful manicure AND pedicure. My friend's mom called and told them that she deserved a refund and that she would be coming to receive it in the next couple of days and they originally said that would be fine. However, we went today to get her refund and the employees refused to even give her at least a refund on her pedicure. They were extremely rude. All they offered was for her to get her nails and toes redone by them but we did not have time available and she was sceptical to let them touch her nails again after her experience. They basically told her it was her fault that her nails were not done correctly. Ultimately, their customer service was horrible. The owner was incredibly insensitive to the fact that my friend just wanted them to give her a simple refund. WOULD NOT recommend going to this nail salon. read more

Hazardous health practices--during my pedicure I was cut and they had nothing except blood clotting powder to sanitize my wound. I panicked as they had nothing to offer me to clean my cut (I am a family nurse practitioner and am well aware of the dangers being cut at the nail salon). I asked for some alcohol and a cotton ball or an alcohol prep--they looked at me as I was asking something preposterous or they never heard of it...It took pedicurist a few minutes to look around in the salon to find a green, unmarked, plastic spray bottle that she said was an alcohol solution. From the TN Cosmetology Board: "A manicurist shall maintain a supply of antiseptic and/or liquid or spray styptic to be used in the event that a patron's skin is accidentally broken during the manicuring process...All containers for cosmetic products must be properly labeled." The situation I have experienced in which a pedicurist did not have proper supply for antiseptic and neither it was labeled is a violation of standard precautions as well as the rules of the TN Cosmetology Board and is worthy of Health Department Complaint. Avoid Tulip Nail Spa or you can be putting your health at risk. read more

I had a wonderful experience here. My mother and I went in for a dip manicure. I've had a lot of dip manicures before and am not from here, so I was recommended this place by a friend. This is THE BEST dip manicure I have ever had. They took their time. Miah did my nails and Tracy did my mother's. They really took their time, shaped my nails beautifully, and used the drill to smooth the surface of the dip before setting it so that it is not bumpy. There is absolutely no dip on my skin. It looks beautiful. They have over 500 dip colors. We came in around 4 PM and did not have to wait without an appointment on a Tuesday. In the future, I'll be getting appointments with Tracy or Miah because they did an amazing job. The price was not bad, it is cheaper than the place I go back home and I was fully expecting to pay more because they were so thorough. Also it looks really clean. The bathrooms are clean and they get the tools right out of the autoclave packets which you don't always see everywhere else. I highly recommend this place. read more

Really deserves negative stars!!!! I have never had such horrible customer service!!! Went on a very slow weekday early afternoon an there was no one waiting. When i was told they were ready for me they actually had me sit next to a woman who was still in the middle of her fills. The nail tech proceeded to do my fills and the other persons at the same time. Several times she tried to convince me to get a new full set. I explained these were just my second fills. Then when i noticed she had filed down the nails too short i was told "we can do new set then" by this time it had already been close to 1.5 hours and still needed to be painted. I said no i really needed to get going. However once i left i realized they were so short the acryllic actually was below the tip of my finger! Within an hour 2 of them cracked because the acryllic had nothing to hold on to! I went back to ask for my money back! First woman said no they dont give refunds. I began to show her how short they were and uneven and cracking. She said well i heard you ask for them to be shorter. Uh yes but not shorter than my finger! Why would i pay for fake nails shorter than my real nails??!! By this time 5 employees all came out except the girl who did my nails! They were all speaking in their native language and 2 women actually rolled their eyes at me!! One girl said something and began laughing! I called her out and said if she had the nerve to laugh at least speak English! The "manager" kept saying their policy was no refunds but they would put a new set on and only charge me the difference! SERIOUSLY?! Clearly that is all they were after from tbe beginning! When i asked where this policy was in writing all of a sudden the manager didnt understand English! I was told after he had someone "translate" they didnt have this in writing and didnt have to. This all took place while all the other employees stood around me talking back and forth about me (not in English) smirking and rolling ther eyes! They also continued to blame me because i asked for them to be shorter and didn't want a new set which they felt i needed! I have never been treated with such disrespect!
