I really wanted to enjoy my first experience at Tulsa Bistro, especially after hearing about it on TikTok and having my friend drive over an hour from Georgia to try it with me. Unfortunately, the customer service completely changed the experience for me. When I first walked in, there was no one at the front to greet guests. A kind gentleman inside noticed me waiting and let me know a server would come out shortly. When the server finally came out, the interaction immediately felt cold and dismissive. She asked how she could help me, and I politely requested a table for two. She informed me she couldn't seat me until the rest of my party arrived, which was understandable, even though the restaurant was mostly empty. What bothered me was the delivery and overall lack of hospitality. I was simply told to sit outside and wait for my party. While sitting outside, I noticed a sign offering complimentary water to waiting guests, but that was never offered or mentioned to me. There was no warm greeting, no welcoming energy, and no effort to make a first-time customer feel comfortable. I later asked to speak with a manager because I wanted to address the interaction respectfully. I explained that I'm new to Jacksonville and this was my first visit. The server did apologize, which I appreciated, but the apology quickly turned into explanations and back-and-forth justification instead of simply acknowledging how the interaction came across. The food may have been fine, but customer service sets the tone for the entire experience. Tulua is a gem! I started my morning with a black coffee. They'll sweeten it with any flavor, like vanilla. The side of potatoes was just right, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavor. My main dish was the strawberry French toast, and it was heavenly. Toast was thick. The edges had a satisfying crunch, the middle was perfectly soft, and it was topped with fresh strawberries and a light dusting of powdered sugar. A total treat! The hubs ordered the Godzilla omelette, and it lived up to the name--generous and full of flavor. The onions, peppers, and tomatoes were all beautifully caramelized. He already says he'd order it again. The atmosphere at Tulula's is vibrant and welcoming, clean, colorful, chic, and artsy. It just makes you feel good to be there. They're known for their charcuterie boards, which you can build yourself or let the chef create for you. After this incredible breakfast, I definitely want to come back and try one! There is also another room for private parties. And they have bottomless mimosas! The music was great, and our server Michele was absolutely wonderful--kind, attentive, and full of great info. My friends and I (5) people, showed up to Talula's in Springfield. We were unaware that they had a groups of 30 coming in. We asked to be seated but because one of our persons was not present they would not seat us. We were informed that they could not seat us because it would be unfair to the 1 waiter who was serving those persons on the other side opposite than the area of the 30. Most of their staff were serving the big party. We then asked the hostess that if we already knew our 5th persons order could we be seated. No dice. If that wasn't bad enuf, we were inside of the restaurant and they made us go outside until all of us were present. We were not blocking the door or talking loud or anything annoying. The manager or whomever, then told the hostess to stand outside and wait for patrons. Our last person showed up as we stood outside and searched for a place to have breakfast. We decided to go down the street to Uptown. We drove there, walked in and we were seated immediately. So be weary when going to Tulua. They are not accommodating or even friendly. The interior has an odd feel, kind of like a Chinese takeout place, but with way more of those tables and chairs that people mostly don't sit at. But don't let that fool you. The food is great, the drinks are great, the service is great. They have a full bar. You can order one of their specialty cocktails (we didn't), but because it's a brunch place, mimosas are featured, along with other brunch drinks. I had an awesome Bloody Mary and my girl had a Poinsettia (cran and bubbly). The menu is extensive. There are lots of breakfast and lunch options. I had the Godzilla Omelette. It was a two meal dish. It's loaded, and very tasty. My girl had the Veggie Benedict with grits. The Hollandaise was very good, the grits were creamy and delicious. Love the Springfield location. The dining area is spacious and even though there's usually a wait, it's never that long. And honestly I'm ok with a wait as this means it's a popular spot that everyone is trying to get into. I had read glowing reviews about the food and atmosphere, but after visiting, I can only assume those reviewers were at a different restaurant... or in a different dimension entirely. Our waitress, however, was in such a hurry that every question felt like we were asking her to solve a riddle. At one point, she even rolled her eyes at that moment I knew we weren't exactly in for five-star service. My cousin and her friend bravely ordered the bottomless mimosas, only to be informed they were served with dry champagne. I ordered the "Gummy Martini," which on Instagram looked like the candy-coated cocktail of dreams. What I got looked like its sad, distant cousin. The rainbow gummies were skewered on a toothpick like they were awaiting execution, and I practically needed tweezers to fish them out without dunking my fingers in the drink. For food, I went with the "Not a Basic Bitch" hashbrown dish, ironically, it managed to be exactly that: basic. The bottom was so crunchy I thought I'd accidentally bitten into a tortilla chip, the avocado looked like it had lived a rough life, and the pico de gallo was hanging on for dear life. My cousin's pancakes looked fine, but her breakfast bowl was such a disaster we didn't dare send it back, we weren't ready to roll the dice again. And to top it off? Been wanting to try to stop by Tulua Bistro and try their Breakfast Board. This small size features two sides, two sweets, one meat, and one specialty item. The two sweets are French toast and pancakes. The sides include hash browns and fresh fruit. The meat option is sausage patties, and the specialty item is shrimp and grits. Pancakes: 4/5 Delicious French Toast: 0/5 - these weren't not edible at all. It's like they fried the bread. Greasy. Not a bit of batter touched this bread. I like a classic French Toast. Cooked on a griddle. These were not it! Hash Browns: 4.5/5 cooked perfectly. Seasoning on them gave it a nice kick. Sausage Patties: 4/5 They are your typical sausage patties. Cooked well. Shrimp & Grits: 3.5/5. The shrimp were seasoned well. Wish they could've put that seasoning into the grits. They were just their normal grits. Overall a good visit. Will be back. Sad to say, but they missed the mark on several issues today. We were a party of 4, yet would not seat 3 of us at a 4 top until 4th showed. The hostess was awkward and couldn't seem to communicate to us. Actually stood there and oddly giggled at us prior to seating us once we were all there. Never had such an inappropriate and juvenile hostess. Food was hit and miss, and drinks at table were hit and miss. It was Sunday and they are open until 4pm, yet at 2:30 pm they were camping next to our table doing their refills of all of the tables syrup etc.. and the restaurant was empty. They could have refilled the table condiments anywhere besides there. The bartender David was amazing, as was our server Austin. They were the only bright spots of our experience there. It's a beautiful version of a cosmo, and while that isn't the typical breakfast cocktail, I made the trip so I was getting it. For breakfast, I ordered the Godzilla omelette. It was two eggs with Swiss and American cheeses (I 86d the American), sausage, bacon, fries, tomatoes, spinach, mushroom, peppers, and onions, and a side of jalepeno peppers. My friend does not like waffles & Lancie was very apologetic and took it back right away. It took a few minutes, but she brought us out freshly made hot pancakes and even gave us a few extra. My first time there was in October 2024 and the experience and food was delicious. However, we tried to celebrate my daughter's Sweet Sixteen there in January 2025. We called in advance and were given a heads up that there was a drag show later that day, but as long as we were out of there by 2p we would be okay. On the day of the event we arrived at 12p with all of her friends and was told we could not be seated because the owner came in that morning and decided to reserve all seating for the drag show unless we paid $15/person in advance. We had brunch at about 10 am. The restaurant has two sides and it is a good size. We only waited about 15 minutes. I ordered the Godzilla Omelette which was amazing. My girlfriend ordered and LGBT sammy and a side of cheese grits which she said was amazing also. Our server was excellent. I think his name was Stevie...Can't remember but he gave impeccable service. All in all great food amd great vibes. Will be going back for sure read more
