Made a reservation ahead of time to ensure we could sit inside! The shared waffle board was so good! They list berries which felt silly because it came with like 4 berries! The waffles were sweet which was a great contrast to the salty chicken. The spinach artichoke dip was one of the best I've ever had! The drinks were great and a normal price. The service was great; our waitress Lee was very kind and sweet! It is super cute inside but not very many tables.

I'm still thinking about the shrimp and grits at The District in Springfield Perfectly cooked shrimp, rich and creamy grits, and a flavor that somehow manages to be both comforting and elevated at the same time. Every bite had that balance of savory, buttery goodness with just the right kick. You know when a dish is so good you slow down just to make it last? That was me the entire time. Hands down the best shrimp and grits I've ever had in Jacksonville--maybe anywhere. If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and go. This one's worth the hype.

Easy reservation online system. Got our YURT for up to 12 ppl. It was cooled by portable HVAC and could have benefited from a little more light. But we made do. Our server Mari was excellent - attentive and friendly. Great cocktails and apps along with a variety of entrees made for a great dining experience. Would definitely recommend.

As beautiful as the presentation of this dish was, the photo doesn't do it justice as to how AMAZING this curry chicken dish is. I can't apply the flavor to a specific food style but the chef is from New Orleans (I was told). I may have to eat this a few times while I'm here this week for work!

The vibe off top is unmatched at this Sunday brunch. The music, the wait staff, and the Peacock Green Dome is the perfect space to have an event in! Mari was our waitress and we just loved her!! Freddy was the musician of the day and he kept the place live and engaged! I ordered a passion fruit Bellini which was perfect for me!! The spinach and artichoke dip was amazing, flavorful and the bread it came with was soft and seasoned, which I loved. The salmon and grits was definitely the star of the show, the salmon was cooked so well and the seasoning was just right!! The grits were cooked just right as well! I need to come here more often!

Dinner for 2 - curry chicken, steak, brisket, asparagus, mashed potatoes. Martini

Service was excellent! Courteous and checked in on us a few times. The brisket and curry chicken with mashed potatoes was the best! Let's not forget the martini. All great atmosphere and food!!!

Starting New Years Day off with a wonderful brunch at a place I don't get to often enough! I haven't been here in a few years and goodness have they grown! We sat out on the porch, which was covered and had heaters. It was quite comfortable on a very chilly day! Our server was wonderful and kept our glasses full and helped us decide on menu items. She was on top of it even though it was an incredibly busy morning. I had trouble deciding between the French toast (my go-to brunch/breakfast food!) and chicken and waffles. But on the menu... chicken and French toast. Best of both worlds and now my life won't ever be the same! The chicken was juicy and tender and the breading had delicious seasoning. I was nervous the French toast would be too sweet but it was just the perfect balance of the chicken. Dipped in the syrup, I was in heaven! Also at the table was oxtail and grits. Grits aren't really for me, but they were decent (take this with a grain of salt because as I said, I don't like grits in general) and the oxtail was great! Someone got chicken and waffles and I did try a nibble of the waffle. It was good but I was definitely partial to the French toast. And finally, a croque madame! I didn't sample but everyone else gave rave reviews. For the drinks, most the table had bottomless mimosas. Worth the cost and delicious! One got a French 75 which I tried and it was perfection! Bright and lemony! I had cold brew coffee and here is where my only (small) complaint comes in. I only got the cold brew because they do not have hot coffee! For a brunch place, this feels illegal lol. And the cold brew was very so-so. Tasted a bit watered down. I survived just fine though and it won't keep me from going back and raving about the food. It did get quite loud on the porch once it was filled up. So, something to consider if you're looking for something a little more intimate and quiet. Also, the music was seriously on point. And that was a decent volume.

Went there on a weekend for brunch and got really lucky that we were able to get seated right away without reservation (although would definitely recommend making a reservation because they are always busy). It was cold and rainy outside so the seatings outside on the patio were definitely cold even with the space heaters. They were incredibly busy so the service was slow. Food came out delicious, and staff was very knowledgeable to help us decide what to order. They do have unlimited mimosa on weekends but be mindful that they get busy and the server might not be able to refill for you (we were there for about 2 hours and only ended up getting 2 mimosas each which was a waste to do unlimited mimosa and not worth it).

I would suggest a reservation but we were recently able to walk in without a wait on a Saturday morning (right after opening). We loved sitting outside. There was live music, which is always a fun touch. We got the bottomless mimosas. I mean, you can't go wrong here. They had three juice choices- orange, pineapple, and cranberry. You can't change it up with each glass and the staff came by often to refill. We also got the carnivore board which was a great option when you just can't decide. It had short ribs, chimichurri steak, and fried chicken. The sides included the potatoes, grits, biscuits, and gravy. Everything was great! The gravy has what I believe to be a sage flavor, so it wasn't my absolute favorite breakfast gravy, but it didn't stop us from devouring it!

The district is probably a 4.5 star experience, I'll round up since I'm looking forward to going back to enjoy patio seating. On this most recent first-time visit, we stopped by on a busy Saturday at lunch time. We arrived at 11:00 a.m. with a reservation, and I'm certainly glad that I did make a reservation since the place fills up quickly for lunch/brunch. I enjoyed the chicken and waffles, the chicken was well prepared, and those waffles were uniquely amazing! Service from Sean was good, and while the tables inside the restaurant are packed very closely together, we were still able to enjoy conversation. We did notice the people without reservations were left with bar seating, since the dining room and patio filled up. The Springfield neighborhood is nothing significant to speak of, so there's nothing in the surrounding area to visit before or after a meal. There is a parking slab about a block from the front door of the restaurant. Pricing averaged about $35 per person all in including soft drinks, though note that they do not offer cold/iced tea as a beverage, which seems odd since all of their other soft drinks come in cans, so it would seem easy to offer tea. Overall, this restaurant does offer excellent food, and a trendy environment, so I do anticipate returning.

Bread Pudding French Toast and Fried Chicken. 10/10, no notes.
    Alex W.

I'm not a huge breakfast (or sweets) person but the Bread Pudding French Toast and Fried Chicken was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. The french toast had a great, complex flavor to it, was soft and moist, and the layer of vanilla icing really sent it over the top. I barely touched the side of maple syrup since everything was already so perfect. The fried chicken was crunchy, juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. If I had ordered that by itself, I would've been perfectly happy. It was that good and the portion was generous. In addition to the great food, the service was attentive and the outdoor dining area was cool and well shaded on a busy Sunday. The next time I'm in town I'll be sure to try their dinner menu!

My husband made a lunch reservation for us on Saturday at 11. The restaurant is located on a residential street in the Springfield area north of downtown Jacksonville. There is some street parking as well as a free parking lot about a block past the restaurant. There was a line of people waiting to get in when we arrived. Fortunately we had a reservation for indoor dining. There is also a big patio with plenty of tables on a covered patio. The menu had about six appetizers, as well as about twelve entrees. I went with one my standards, the shrimp and grits. The dish was tasty, but literally was only shrimp and grits, with no sausage, peppers, tomatoes or onions. My husband had the chicken and waffles. The dish looked and tasted great. Service was quick.

    Cheese board with prosciutto added
    Portia B.

The District has been a favorite for brunch since they opened. I've been fortunate to snag amazing patio spots for my groups of 5+ (with a reservation) during times that live music was happening. This was my first visit for dinner, and it was still a great experience with the same flavorful food options available at brunch (the salmon, and or shrimp and grits are my favorite during the day, those Cajun seasoned shrimp are a flavor bomb!), with a few additional hearty options. We were promptly seated and enjoyed the cheese board with an addition of prosciutto. The mustard that comes with this board was so good I also had some with my short rib! There was a fun selection of nuts and crackers, with two spiced cheeses, burrata, and pimento cheese. As mentioned, I had the perfectly seasoned braised short rib which was served piping hot, and my date chimichurri steak which was well seasoned and cooked to the chefs preferred temperature. While there was no live music, whatever was coming through the speakers was a vibe, and the overall atmosphere was perfect. This will remain a go to place when you just want to enjoy a meal and enjoy a romantic setting.

She made sure to check up on us, answered all of our questions, and refilled our drinks often. It was super clean there too! We were started off with some fresh, warm bread and a balsamic/olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was perfectly crispy and went so well with the dipping sauce. We were served cold bread before at restaurant so I'm glad we had warm bread! We decided on the following appetizer and entrees: Fried meat ravioli - 8/10: it came out piping hot and it was so delicious! Fried to a nice, golden brown and covered in panko crumbs, it didn't feel heavy at all. It came with a fresh marinara sauce and had parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the fried ravioli. Each bite was cheesy, crispy, tasty, meaty, and we devoured it quickly! Carbonara Alla Roma - 8.5/10: I thought the portion would be small since I seen photos online but it was actually a great portion. I had enough to take home and eat as leftovers! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the alfredo sauce was balanced and decadent. I could taste the pecorino romano, and cracked black pepper. The pancetta was smoky and added a nice umami flavor to the pasta. I didn't rate it higher because it was slightly missing a little bit of of that BAM factor! but it was pretty delicious! The Sofi - chicken - 9/10: Oh my gosh! My best friend got this and I wished I would have too! It was sooooooooooooooooooo good! It had prosciutto di parma, mushrooms, asparagus, shallots, cooked in wine and tossed in a rose cream sauce. The pasta was also cooked perfectly and that sauce was to die for! Each bite was like tasting the finest flavors and spices of Italy. I could not believe how tasty this was! If you come here, you HAVE to try this dish! Tiramisu - 9.5/10: One of the best tiramisus we've had in Jacksonville. It was the perfect amount of espresso and cream. They had dollops of chocolate sauce on the side and helped elevated the flavor of the tiramisu. It also wasn't super sweet which we appreciate. We don't really like overly sweet desserts and this one hits the mark on everything. Overall, service, food, and atmosphere was great! We would definitely come back to try other menu items! Thank you for such a great first experience, Sofi's!

We loved the gambas al ajillo -- the shrimp had great flavor and just the right amount of heat -- and the grilled sourdough was perfect for soaking up every bit of the delicious sauce. A few things fell short, though. Our table for two felt cramped, especially since it was positioned directly against a wooden divider. I was facing the back of the restaurant, so as right-hander, sitting up against the wall felt awkward and made the space feel even tighter. I'm a huge fan of seafood stews and almost always order them when I see one on the menu, so I was looking forward to the Sicilian Stew. While the overall flavor was good, it leaned a bit too salty for my taste. More disappointing was the fish itself -- it seemed cooked down and stirred into the broth to the point where it acted more like a thickener than a distinct part of the dish. I would have preferred visible pieces of fish with more texture and presence. Overall, the staff was warm and attentive, the service was excellent, and the food arrived promptly. Despite a few drawbacks, I'd still be open to giving Taverna another try in the future.
