We spent a few days with my sister in Sisters and looked around for homes/property in the area. Loved the walkability of the town and all the bicycle trails. On our way out early this morning we stopped for coffee in Tumalo. Great little place in seemingly the middle of nowhere. Good coffee, cozy feeling/decor and lots of really good looking baked items. My husband had an egg sandwich which was quite good and my teenager exclaimed over the ham and egg croissant. So, we couldn't find much that was worthy and affordable in Sisters but now we think we might consider moving to Tumalo. A good coffee house has that kind of power. What a cute coffee shop on this back road , away from the hiway. I was heading to EagleCrest from Bend and decided to stop here for breakfast. I had a breakfast sandwich and an Americano. Staff was really kind and friendly. A couple of people looked like they were enjoying coffee and working on laptops. Shop sold a few local items like specialty honey! The coffee was perfect! The breakfast sandwich was good. They had a veggie frittata they heated and served on a whole wheat English muffin. I enjoyed it. I was in the area briefly and HAD to find good coffee! In an area with many great coffee shops I chose to find the off the beaten path Tumalo. Delicious!! I've been coming here regularly for a year. This is one of the best coffee shops in all of Central Oregon. It's right up there with Backporch in Bend and Sisters coffeehouse. Both of those businesses roast their own beans however for such a small shop in such a tiny town it's unreasonable to expect Tumalo Coffee to do their own roasting. Coffee - My lattes are always great. I haven't had one that's over or under extracted. That can sometimes be difficult to really gauge when you add all of that milk so I should order an espresso for the ultimate test. They sell locally made honey too. One of which is a cayenne honey, it's crazy hot, and you can get it in your latte. It's brilliant! So freaking good! Service - always great, especially when Amanda is working! She's always cheerful and easy going! After I hadn't been in for months she remembered my drink. Soy cayenne latte. Food - Great for such a small place. Limited but yummy. Breakfast sandwiches, quiche, salads, soups...and tremendous baked goods. You can even order a pie from their on site baker!!! Atmosphere - Definitely gets busy at lunch time so you may not get a table. A couple of cozy chairs and wifi make this a cheerful place to get some work done. Outside seating too! They also sell local art and textiles (local alpaca scarves, rugs etc) so it's a fun place to pick up a few gifts. Negatives - the only negative I have is the tea. I know that the local Metolius tea has it's fans but I do not care for it and wish I had another option for when I don't want coffee. Perhaps I just haven't tried the right one. I haven't been going out for coffee/food for the last few months because of obvious health concerns, but I decided to meet 2 friends for a little Sunday morning social-distance meet-up. I was totally shocked to see the owner and her help w/o masks, gloves or any other health protocol in place. Lids, sleeves and napkins were on the counter in piles for customers to grab themselves. An amazing disregard for the health of their customers and community as COVID-19 cases are on the rise. Obviously I won't be going back. read more

This is my favorite place to wake up to in Bend! Steaming coffee, great staff and the best scones you will ever put in your mouth. These scones are like nothing I have ever had. Soft, sweet and full of beautiful Oregon flavors. I've had them all l, but my favorites are the ones full of Ginger. My sister and I had the most delightful afternoon, sitting on the patio in the comfy chairs, during coffee, laughing and enjoying the chicken antics across the street. This place has it all. This is my go to Coffee spot. We live in Tumalo but I would drive for a good latte! So imagine my delight when I asked if they ever do any event catering with their desserts, they said yes! We just got married a few weeks ago and Amanda along with her amazing crew at TCH made our dessert table spectacular for a very fair price! I was so thrilled to have my favorite cake flavor, and so many of the delicious desserts we enjoy from them normally to share with our guests. Everyone commented on how beautiful the table arrangement was as well as how delicious everything was! The coffeehouse itself is always so wonderful. The staff is friendly and the coffee is amazing. Be aware that this business underwent a change of ownership, mid-summer, 2014. It was NOT a change for the better. Previously a place with great coffee, extraordinarily good baked goods, and some terrific breakfast and lunch items, it is now a place of average quality food, and worse than average service. I have been back three times since the ownership change, and so it's fair to pull out the old maxim: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on ME. Was in yesterday, lousy experience. Though a line had formed, the young man at the counter suddenly became fascinated with inspecting, then unloading, the dishwasher. After that (all this 10 feet from me), he went to the back to get some supplies of some sort. After carefully rearranging his apron for a bit, he finally came to the counter to take my order, mumbling so badly that I wasn't sure whether he wanted to take my order or tell me to beat it. He was taciturn, bordering on surly. Unless the current management gets its act together, and teaches its employees how to properly interact with customers, a previously thriving 5 star business is doomed to failure. In 2014, the options for coffee are many, and paying good money for crap service, mediocre coffee, and indifferent food is a thing of the past. read more

OMG, the baked goods are incredible. The donut muffin, not to be missed (it's on par with the iconic Ocean Roll from a certain Bend bakery and that is the highest praise possible from me). The breakfast sandwiches, delicious and easy to eat on the road. Need a snack bar for your jersey pocket or day pack? Try the gluten free bar. My wife and I have been coming here for 2 years now, the coffee is always great but our real passion is the baked goods! They are amazing! They have made cakes and pies for our birthdays and any celebration we can think up. Just today they added homemade waffles and they were unbelievably good! Based on other reviews we gave this a try. Don't know how people gave it 5 stars. The Americano was weak and the regular coffee, according to my husband, was mediocre. I had a gluten free muffin which was good but that was the only choice for gf. Not a place I would return to but since we don't live here it's a moot point. read more

Great coffeehouse! After sitting there for a half an hour, I actually felt left out because I wasn't called by my first name when I first came in. It felt like the "Cheers" of coffee houses. This place is a must stop for any coffee lover. My cousin is constantly raving about the lavender vanilla infused honey lattes. They also quite generously offer hemp, almond and soy milk as dairy free alternatives. I opted for a hot almond milk latte with ginger honey. It was warm and spicy and not too sweet. The ginger and the espresso got along great. We may just have to stop by on our way out of town for a jar of ginger honey to take home with us! Service was quick and cheery. read more

Tumalo coffee house has it all., Amazing coffee, perfect bakery treats (made fresh in house by the owner) and that comfortable,hipster coffehouse feel. My wife and I are long time coffee conasours and were trilled with our experience. This is as good as I have had in any coffe city. I would make this a must stop on a Tumalo road cycling trip or a great place to meet a friend if you want to impress them with a true jem off the beaten path. read more

What happened to my first well-crafted review? Oh, well, Yelp has forced me to pen another because this business deserves it! Personally I'm partial to the brownies, but I can slip into a recursive loop over a choice between them and the chocolate chip cookies. Either go equally well with my bird-friendly coffee (yep, I had to Google that one). Everything I've eaten has been great and I've tried nearly everything. Apparently I'm not alone in this conclusion. I live nearby and stop in frequently. The foot traffic has increased dramatically from the previous business. I take this as an indication that Lori and Alan Petrich are doing something right.
