Decided to try some chicken outside of the usual Popeyes, Bush's and KFC. I don't do spicy foods but came here on the recommendation of an Uber driver. We were not dissatisfied. Tom was our waiter and he was awesome!! Our food came out about as fast as our drinks did. I had the 1/2 chicken wimpy with dirty mac n cheese and fries. She had the 2 PC tenders dang hot with greens. The chicken was fresh crispy and flavorful. The sides were good as well. The chicken was the star of the show though. I have come here so many times and there's some magic dust they put in the chicken that makes it so delicious and flavorful. I usually get their chicken tenders because I love boneless meat and they always hit the spot! They have various spice levels and I love spicy foods so my first time here I thought dang hot would hit the spot for me.... BEWARE! Their spice levels are NO JOKE!! Personally, I always get the hot or mo hot and it hits the spot yet allows me to fully taste and enjoy my chicken. I had their 1/4 breast and wing this time and the meat is moist, tender, and so flavorful! Their cilantro mint and ranch sauces are my FAVORITE and their shoestring fries are delicious! T22 opened a while back and I've had a chance to drop by a few times before they changed their name (thankfully) to Tumble 22. We loved it the first few times but the name was originally so mechanical we'd keep jokingly referring to it as 'V34,' or 'G23' as we'd always forget what it was called. Name aside though this place specializes in Nashville style hot chicken, which is more reliant on a dry mix of spices to bring the heat. However this is made up by the chicken, which has never disappointed. Its fried perfectly, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It's not too salty, greasy or under spiced. They have a balance down which other places in Austin tend to mess up on repeat visits. The chicken comes in 4 levels of heat, 3 are tolerable and the hottest one will guarantee some major discomfort if you arent prepared. Sides are awesome, I really dig the smoky beans and the potato salad to dissipate some of the heat. They also have a full bar and some bangin' pie, not an afterthought at this place. Just the right amount of spice without it being too painful to enjoy. You HAVE to get the dirty mac. Basically it's mac and cheese with strips of chicken and smothered with ranch. Every time I get it I almost black out. That's how good it is. I would skip out on their chicken tenders. Also sandwiches tend to run pretty spicy here... i think the hot level spice is comparable to a spicy Chick-fil-A sandwich and the mo' hot is decently spicy. I tried their special caprese chicken sandwich and man was it delicious. The pop of flavors from the combination came together really well and the size of the sandwich was very filling. The only reason I'm giving it less than 5 is my waitress said a side came with it, but it doesn't. Some friends who are Austin natives told me that on my trip to this great city, I should check out the Tumble22 truck while out and about. This place did NOT disappoint. We came into Star Bar (The name of the bar that the food truck is in the back of) and made our way to the back room. The area outside has a bar and a bunch of tables and space heaters if it gets too cold. We walked up to the truck and took a bit to order. Ended up ordering the OG' Sandwich with the Mo Hot sauce. This chicken... it had to be one of the juiciest pieces that I have ever had. It was crispy, fluffy and was so flavorful. I LOVE hot and spicy food but good lord the Mo Hot was SPICY (but not to the point where there was no flavor). Word to the wise: try not to eat it too fast, you'll burn your mouth LOL. I used to rave to everyone about T22. The service! The chicken! Amazing! For some reason, the last few times I've been I feel as though I've offended a best friend without knowing and my "bestie" is giving me the colder shoulder. What did I do to deserve the not so great service and salty sides? Most recent experience, I order online and when I arrive there's practically one table with two people. A young lady is wiping down tables and doesn't immediately acknowledge my presence. When she does she tells me that someone will be with me shortly. I'm waiting for the someone a few moments while she continues wiping tables. Then after several moments she walks over to me and ask for the name on my order. I couldn't believe it She then proceeds to grab to bags from under the heating lamp and walks quickly to me holding out my bag while briskly walking outside to some other hungry waiting soul sitting in curbside. Although T22 does not take reservations, our party of 6 was seated in its outdoor patio almost immediately on a Friday afternoon. However, service was heckin slow (!), especially for dessert. We waited 15-20 minutes for two slices of pie. I also purchased a mini pie to go at the counter and waited another 15-20 minutes. By the time we left at around 8pm, there was quite a long line of people waiting to be seated. The food itself cannot be beat. The sandwich is high quality and large compared to other chicken sandwiches (the OG chicken patty is around 2x the size of a Chick-fil-a original sandwich). The patty was nicely battered, and the slaw and pickles complemented it well. I usually get 3 tenders, which come with a side all for $9, but I think going forward I'll opt for the sandwich and pay an extra $2 for a side if I want one. The chicken patty is juicer and better battered than the tenders, in my opinion. The sides are pretty average here. We enjoyed the pie slices. read more

Because I've suffered a knee injury that limits my mobility, I placed my order for curbside pickup again. When I arrived, I texted the phone number that was provided just as the signs stated. After waiting 15 minutes and deciding that nobody was bringing my order to my car, I pulled out my cane and hobbled on in. I finally found someone who was willing to take a moment to direct me to my order and then questioned the server about why my text message was ignored; his answer was that they don't do that. This Hunter guy goes out of his way to address every negative I've review and tell us how disappointed he is that they didn't do a good job. The evidence, however (many, many reviews over a period of years, all with identical complaints) points to him not being disappointed enough to do anything to solve the problem. That doesn't sound like disappointment at all, to me; it sounds like a business that just doesn't care. Once is an oops. Twice is a giant "F you" to their customers. I don't know about you, but I'm not willing to give my money to a business that says "F you" to me. Fly-rite is just a couple of blocks down the street and has great food AND great service. I've never been to Tennessee, but this is the best spicy fried chicken that I've ever had in Texas by far, and anywhere else thus far for that matter. I am a lover of very spicy foods, and I always have one of two issues with spicy fried chicken places. Either the chicken isn't spicy at all, or it's spicy without retaining much flavor. Tumble 22 hits the nail on the head. It can get as hot as you want (though I wasn't able to tell any difference between their labeled spiciest "cluckin' hot" and their off-menu hotter level) or get wimpy and be fine for those non-spice lovers. The chicken has that wonderful crispy skin and juicy meat and is stacked on top of some bread that absorbs all that wonderful spice and grease. I can not state enough that the flavor is excellent while still being able to reach pretty spicy levels. If you're obsessed with heat, this chicken definitely won't reach insane levels, but it's certainly better than any other chicken place I've been to. I'm not the biggest fan of the different dipping sauces but I don't usually dip my chicken like that so I guess it's a bonus to have them. The beans and fries were okay. I was a fan of the mac and cheese though. It's nice that they have outdoor seating as well, especially in 2020. Overall, excellent spicy fried chicken. This place was a knockout! I was with a group of friends looking for a bite before we hit the town. I loved the interior of this place, nice fast casual spot with amazing food. The staff come to your table and take your order. They have beers on tap, frozen margaritas (amazing!) and other drinks to choose from. The prices at this place are also very reasonable. We decided to get the deviled eggs to start, and they were super flavorful. They kind of looked paler than I'm used to, but wow they were delicious! This place really got me in the door because of the mac n cheese on the menu which I got with the two piece jumbo tenders. These tenders are LARGE, basically half a chicken breast. They were cooked perfectly and I got the "Dang! Hot" level of spice which I thought was perfect being someone that really enjoys some heat. I can't tell you if their chicken is the same or different than what they serve in Nashville. When you come here - look at side dishes first. I am a man who dearly loves his macaroni and cheese. Macaroni and cheese comes in two versions: classic and yuppie. Yuppie has foreign ingredients mixed in for fancy-pants eaters who can't be satisfied with macaroni and cheese straight up. The best version of yuppie macaroni and cheese is the lobster mac n' cheese at the Blind Salamander at the Austin Omni Barton Creek. No other gourmet macaroni and cheese comes even close. However, plain ordinary everyday macaroni and cheese is much much harder to make. It has to be creamy and supremely satisfying. There are no wacky gimmicks that you can hide behind. It is either perfect or it is nothing. Tumble22's macaroni and cheese is pure unadulterated creamy happiness. It is all of your childhood happy memories. Our server Brenna was great and responded with the phrase "for sure" on everything. We mentioned that this was our first time and she broke down the menu for us. The dirty fries appetizer was a good start. Our meals were out in about 15 minutes and were fresh and hot. The fried chicken crust was so golden good and crispy and the flavor was on point. The Mac and cheese was a big hit with everyone and the fries were just as good. We also had the chicken Cobb salad that had an unbelievable bacon deviled egg in it. It was so good. We should have ordered them (Heavenly Eggs) as the appetizers. BTW the portions are generous. Needless to say we will definitely be back the next time we are in Austin. read more
