We missed lunch specials by 5 minutes but it was all good. I ordered the Boudin Balls with shrimp fried rice as my side, my daughter had fried catfish with fries and my son had the grilled catfish with cilantro rice and steamed vegetables. Everything was so good, I mean all of our plates were filled with such deliciousness. Upon entering walk to the counter to place your order, a number is provided to you as placement on your table, your order is brought to your table. It leaned a little one note.. the shrimp fried rice was just okay. the jalapeño ranch wasn't giving either Jalapeño or ranch, it leaned more like a tartar sauce. It also came with a side of sauce that I wouldn't call cocktail sauce but had spice in it and I wasn't sure what to use it with. Now THAT was great! Came here for a late lunch today. I have the catfish weekend special with a side of fries. I also ordered a daiquiri. The daiquiri was VERY STRONG and fruity! Food wise everything was just okay. My fish did not look or taste like fresh catfish. The service was wonderful 10/10 and the space was clean but it doesn't feel warm or inviting. It has a sort of "clinical" feel to it. I'm so glad I stopped by here today! I was looking for black owned restaurants in the city and this one came up a few times. I also saw my friend mention it as the restaurant for her graduation luncheon so I figured it must be good! Lo and behold I met the owner Brandon and learned he's actually my friend's cousin! Small world! lol Brandon recommended the salt and pepper wings and shrimp since it was my first time and it was served with fried rice and a slice of bread. I really liked the crispiness of the food and batter that was used to fry it. You can taste the the flavor all in the skin. I would say the actual chicken inside the skin could use a tad bit more salt but also that could be a preference thing for me. I loved the jalapeño ranch dipping sauce which took the shrimp up a notch. The fried rice tasted like Chinese takeout rice which I believe the owner mentioned was part of the concept of the business, as it reminded him of the restaurant he had back home. Austin's very own Saltt is truly a gem. We were in town celebrating a family member's birthday and came here for brunch, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere and vibes were a 10/10 beautifully decorated, and we visited on a Sunday when they had live music, which was such a great touch. Although they were a bit short-staffed, the team did an excellent job keeping everything moving and getting the food out in a timely manner. The food was also a 10/10. As a Port Arthur resident, I know good salt and pepper shrimp and chicken, and Saltt absolutely did this signature flavor justice. If you know me that you know, I love brunch and more than brunch. I love a family ran black owned business. Upon entry, I was greeted by the wonderful sounds of an alto saxophone with some smooth R&B playing. You wait in line order your food then go to the table and the food is brought out to you. The service that we received was excellent from beginning to end. The food was delicious from beginning to end. I ordered a Boudin balls, a fried shrimp and grits that came with eggs, bacon, and toast as well. The grits were so delicious. You can taste this smooth Gouda, the chicken broth that the grits are cooked and they were full of flavor. I will say I do believe that the grilled shrimp was better than the fried shrimp as the grilled shrimp had a bit of more flavor. I tried one of my friends, chicken, wings, the salt and pepper seasoning with the green onions. Oh my God, hands-down the best. Finally got to check out this local spot I've been meaning to visit for a while. Austin's Very Own Saltt is in the strip center across from Walmart off Burnet Road @ Anderson, so easy to miss. Despite the less than ideal location (but with lots of parking), everything else was great. Had the fried fish and shrimp fried rice lunch special. Great deal at $9.99. Fish was perfectly fried with a nice cornmeal crust. Shrimp fried rice was magnificent. Includes a bonus piece of buttery toast and a fountain drink (served in glass not a throw-away cup, which I greatly appreciate). Super friendly service. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Bob Marley mix playing during my visit. Can't say enough about this hidden gem. One suggestion: add a local Pilsner to the beer selection - Real Ale Hans, Meanwhile, or 512 would do nicely. read more

Cousins, lean in and understand that this is a place that you should definitely put on your calendar at least once a month and particularly on Sunday is going to be your favorite day but if you don't like then any other day other week would be great for you. I went here on a Saturday evening with some girlfriends to catch up and eat. During that time of our visit, we talked with the owners and the employees and other guest that were there as we ate our mail. As you can see, we had quite a selection of food here on the pictures However, I decided to come back on MLK day to eat with my boyfriend I was really interested in the breakfast and let me tell you the flavor was on point. The ambience was so amazing. It's very simple and clean and fresh. There was lots of places to pick from an sit on the Saturday night and the Monday morning that we went to eat. I want to circle back to the grits and the fried chicken and the fish and the rice and the drinks. I don't think I've taste everything on the menu yet but go twice a matter of 48 hours or so I did enjoy it. Lastly, I had a procedure in my loopiness of communications. I shared again how great it was to eat at at AVO SALTT! Hey loves, before I forget every Sunday they have a live DJ and I believe the first Sunday of each month they have a live DJ and a horn player come through from New Orleans if I'm not mistaken. Either way, live music or DJ some good food it's a happy place for me. My next visit is planned if I'm not on schedule to work, which is Super Bowl Sunday. I haven't tasted anything quite like it, Asian and Cajun blend, salt and peppery and seasoned well, fried to perfection. This was a really good restaurant in Austin! It's a family-owned seafood restaurant and has a good amount of options to choose from. I opted for the Salt & Pepper catfish which was really good and the seasoned, spicy topping was amazing! I could put that on everything! You order your food and then find your own table. We came back to Saltt to try out the Tuesday special which included a drink, tacos & a side for 19.99. Drinks were on point per usual and the crawfish taco blew me away topped with the jalapeño ranch! The jalapeño ranch really put these tacos over the edge! But I'd give 5/5 for the tacos with and with out the ranch lol. The grilled veggies were cooked perfectly , not too soggy , flavorful, with that slight crisp bite to show they were fresh! I wished I knew that ahead of time and I would have ordered for my fish too. I really wanted the peach Bellini but go figure it wasn't working. Oh well. I went with a green apple/piña colada mix for my daiquiri instead which was really good. When you walk in, head to the counter, order and find a seat. I had the pleasure of dining at Saltt upon recommendation of KAZI's very own Pepper Thomas during a day trip to Austin. And I must say we were not disappointed! We had a group of about 11 and when we arrived we were greeted immediately by the owner. He was welcoming and had already reserved a space for our party. I appreciated that he gave us history and explained the vision behind this new restaurant; just 8 months old. I also appreciated that it's a family run business with his Dad and Mom front and center taking orders and making sure all went well. The open space was very clean, light and modern. I really enjoyed the murals on the wall and vintage NBA arcade game. Now on to the food! Our party ordered a bit of everything and nothing disappointed . I didn't get a pic of every but know that the food was fresh, plentiful and seasoned well. One person in our party had the boiled crab entree which comes with snow crab legs. Unfortunately they were out of snow crabs so substituted with blue crab instead. Let me tell you, I'm usually not a fan of blue crab at all. But Saltt may have changed my mind. The garlic butter seasoning has the right about of spice and was all around fantastic! The drinks were great as well; from the daiquiris to mimosas. Nothing was too sweet or too strong. Also, the owner's Mom served up a pretty outstanding French 75 and I was impressed! Also, they have $3 mimosas all day on Saturday and Sunday which is a win in my book! The flavor of the food was good; i especially liked the mixed vegetables (carrots and broccoli). The cilantro rice - the rice was a bit crunchy and a bit greasy. Who knew Asian Cajun works. It's a casual order at the counter family owned restaurant. They have frozen drinks that you can also order To go. Happy hour from 3-6. Their specialty is the salt and pepper shrimp. The crawfish tacos also worth trying and those boudin balls are packed with flavor. I left there so stuffed and I still wanted more. Austin's Very Own Saltt is located at Northcross Center, at the southwest corner of Anderson and Burnet. You'll enter into a bright, open space, and walk down the center aisle to place your order at the counter. The menus are primarily displayed on the TV screens behind the counter, which unfortunately rotate through a few slides, so if you're halfway through reading, you'll have to wait for it to cycle. It might be helpful for customers to be able to reference the full menu on a printout. For instance, it's not exactly clear what comes as a side portion, or even what all the options and combinations are, for say, sides and appetizers. That said, they do have a printed brunch menu, but again that printed menu doesn't contain all the information (for instance, it doesn't list tacos). But the general theme is this: choose a protein (shrimp, chicken, (cat)fish, crawfish), choose a preparation and/or flavor (fried, grilled, salt & pepper, taco format), and choose some sides. Their boudin balls are considered an entree, not a side or appetizer, and the minimum amount of them which can be ordered is three. Similarly, grits are unavailable as a side, and seem to be available only for brunch. For drinks, they've got a soda fountain and daiquiris. Food: amazing grits, grilled shrimp, boudin balls, and fish preparations (grilled, salt&pepper, fried). Their fried chicken & waffles are interesting: a crunchy, candied fried exterior, but the meat itself was underwhelming. For their crawfish, I felt the breading to crawfish ratio was too high, so I couldn't really taste the crawfish (which were reasonably small). Environment: if you arrive when it's busy, expect there to be a DJ playing music with the volume up. If you come early and there are fewer patrons, the environment is pretty chill. After you place your order, you'll be handed a number on a stand; you choose your own table. When the food is ready, the staff will come over with silverware, napkins, and plates, along with the food either together or shortly after. Murals adorn the walls, and a few TVs exist on the south wall. Saltt is reasonably popular for events; for instance when we went the first time, they were hosting Alpha Sigma Theta's sorority party, which blocked off the northern half of the restaurant as reserved. I went on 3-7-25 around 1:30 pm for a late lunch. I ordered their salt and pepper catfish strips lunch plate ($12.99) with shrimp fried rice and a Diet Coke ($3.99). You order at the counter and sit down and they give bring out your food when it's ready. The catfish was hot and fresh and had some spicy seasoning however the breading was a little off texture wise and flavor wise compared to other S&P dishes I've had. The shrimp fried rice was not as hot and lacked flavor. I also got a piece of toast and it was good. Tarter sauce was typical. Myself and one other couple were the only patrons in the place. Parking: nice and easy in the free, open lot in front. Plenty of spaces. Ordering: you order at the counter and then they bring the food to you. There are screens above the counter displaying the food, but they change every 10 seconds or so, which is a little confusing if it is your first time there. The food: The food was ok. I got the grilled shrimp, which came with steamed veggies and cilantro rice. The taste was there, but I felt like there was something missing. At the end of the day, all I was really eating was 6 shrimp and some rice. Not bad, but not amazing, either. The service: attentive when we were ordering, but once we were given our food, the employees left and we didn't see them for 15 minutes. My fiancée and I were lucky to try a couple of different things on the menu and were so surprised how much we liked everything!! I ordered the shrimp & catfish combo not knowing if it was grilled or fried and got shrimp fried rice with it. Well, it was all fried - the shrimp had a nice tempura batter, the catfish had a cornmeal batter...both very nice. I would have liked the catfish filet to be thicker b/c it was mostly batter, not fish. So there's somebody in the back sprinkling dried red pepper on everything. My dish was inedible. They were kind enough to redo the dish. Still, the fried rice had some kind of funky odor I couldn't identify. It tasted okay - but hmmm. The price was a bit high, I felt for 2 catfish filets and 6 shrimp - $32 or more??? If it weren't for friendly people, I probably wouldn't go back. read more
