The food at Tumi is actually pretty good. So far Wev had the anticuchos, chicken, sudado de pescado and yucas Fritas...they were all very tasty and just the right portions. Price wise very reasonable. My only concern here is the service. The waiting staff didn't seem very attentive and the cleanliness of the facilities was questionable (waitress wiped our table with a dry paper towel and table was sticky) also they brought us the other tables food twice and didn't even ask if we had touched it and then gave it to the other table :/ read more

Seriously, horrible service. The waitresses never check up on you. You're left sitting there for the longest time. I had to hunt down the waitress twice in this single visit. I asked for my soup to be put in a container and also for the check. I waited about fifteen minutes before I decided to go to the front. When I get there, the waitress is on her phone sitting. When she sees me she gets up to process my bill. I started to leave and then I remembered she didn't give me my soup. I come back in and ask about it and my bowl of soup was left on a side table. She didn't even attempt to pack it up for me. This also isn't the first time service has been lackluster. It happens every single time. The only reason I keep coming back is because the restaurant is close to my house, but I think this is the last time. Management needs to be aware of these issues. read more

It's definitely not fancy but the food tastes great and they have great options like chicken, sea food dishes, parillada, and chauca rice (yum). I was at that restaurant with my family today and we had a bad experience. First, my sister went to the bathroom and came out immediately saying the bathroom was dirty. Second, After a long time of waiting a young lady took the order We were trying to enjoyed the meal. However, we end up traumatized to discover the salad plate was dirty with soil. We looked at each other and checked the salad we were eating and it had soil too, It appears they didn't wash the lettuce. From our personal experience and fist time ever eating lunch here I have to say the food was very good. Portions are big. I ordered the saltado mixto and I enjoyed it. We also ordered a pitcher of Chicha. I personally don't like sweet things and it was a little too sweet for me but everyone else liked it. The service was also good. The waiter was nice and friendly. I don't find Peruvian food to be be seasoned as well as I'd like and the combinations that they serve together are kind of strange to me. I came for the Papa a la Huancaina and was happy. My experience this time at tumi was different . They stop giving you the corn at the beginning which is something a lot of Peruvian places do . Second the chicken felt reheated . Skin was hard chicken was dry it didn't feel fresh . And they changed their prices and now I feel it's overprice $28 for a whole chicken with French fries and rice . Other places most I've paid is $20 . This was a Saturday night . And they took forever to bring the food . I would've understood if it was fresh but it was reheated you can tell . If you were looking for some authentic Peruvian food, you found the right place. For breakfast, definitely try the Peruvian breakfast which includes a tamale, sweet potato and Chicharrón. For lunch or even dinner, order some of their delicious Peruvian style chicken with fries! delicious, no doubt. recommended. For beverage, you should try their chicha morada, it's so tasty. LUNCH MENU SHOLD BE EXPANDED... For a 1st visit I tried this place for lunch. There is no lunch menu so all items are dinner size and dinner price except for 1 lunch special. I typically prefer smaller lunch portion. Lower lunch price helps as well. I suggested this to the waiter and he only suggested that we can take the leftovers with us. He missed the point and likely did not share with management. We were visiting during prime lunch with only 6 others in the restaurant while we were there. I had the lunch special for $8. Forgot the name but it was described as chicken on bone in an orange sauce, a beef soup and beverage. The meat was tender in both however the orange sauce was more of an orange color. No orange flavor. 2nd guest had bistec / grilled steak to be medium rare. Although tender was served medium well at best. I asked for hot sauce and the server placed 3 squirt bottles on the table. They were described: 1) ketchup, 2) green hot sauce, 3) homemade mayo For reference I will never use homemade mayo that is sitting in a squirt bottle on a counter and not in ice. Fell for that trick before and paid the price later at home. I was hoping for this to be a nice Peruvian place which is seconds from the Goethals Bridge. If it was better and had a lunch menu I would feel it could be worth the $13 bridge toll. Unfortunately nothing exciting enough to try again. Adding and then posting that a varied lunch menu is available may work wonders in this place. Get customers in the door and hopefully back for dinner with others. Very bad customer service. The waitress was rude and had an attitude problem. They didn't have most of the stuff from their menu. They asked extra money for sauce even with the left overs. The food was good but the service was dreadful. Seeing that we did not speak Spanish the waiter handed us off to a waitress who did. I know that she understood me when I said I'd like a rare steak with well done french fries because she questioned it as she repeated it back to me. We asked her not to bring out our entrées until after we had eaten our appetizer (soup) and she said of course. The main course came within 30 seconds of the soup. She walked away and I realized that my steak came with rice instead of fries. I could not get her attention to tell her that because she was standing in a corner talking to a waiter, not looking anywhere near our table. Finally I caught the waiter's eye and asked him to send her over. She took my plate, came back with it a moment later while we were still eating our soup and returned the plate with the steak and rice in it and a separate plate of soggy fries. Eventually I finished my soup and cut into my ice cold steak and it was well done. Under other circumstances I would've eaten it but I just waited several minutes till I got her attention and gave it back to her to exchange for a rare steak which did come out eventually and it was good. While I was waiting for my steak people at the table next to mine actually had to get up and walk over to her to ask her to wait on them. The food may be good although a bit pricey for the neighborhood but the poor service is a dealbreaker for me. I won't go back. read more

DECENT PERUVIAN BREAKFAST! Good service, those kids try their best, and good food. A few notes: I agree with a previous review about the bathroom, it was not properly clean. Otherwise, the place was clean. We ordered the Peruvian breakfast, and it took about 15-20 minutes to get it, which is ok. Service was polite and courteous, I asked for ice and water, got it rather quick. Keep in mind they charge you for each individual cup of coffee and bread. I went to this place on Wednesday the 11th of May around 9pm,very different disappointed situation I experienced this time ,in compare from previews visits,their specialty that happens to be chicken that they didn't have,I came in with a group of four adults and two toddlers,service was horrible the food came in sporadically instead of bringing all the meals at once,to make matters worse the kids were the last ones to get their meals,I called the attention to one of the servers about the food timing but to me she was more distracted talking to a person near by the entrance of this establishment ,I asked her specially about the kid meals why it was taking too long and her reply was that since it was chicken nuggets that takes time to cook,I work for the restaurant industry myself as a manager for a major casual restaurant service,and this is unacceptable,hoping that the management or ownership takes more a very positive approach to their business,and also the quality of the food was average. read more

I went here only because I bought a coupon from restaurant.com and wanted to try a new Peruvian food place. The place looks a lot bigger from the outside. Nothing fancy but usually the best food places aren't. We ordered a papa rellena to start as an appetizer. Usually when you order an appetizer, it's supposed to come before the food. But that didn't happen. It came along with our meals. On top of that, it took forever for our "waiter" to even pay attention to us and take our order. When we ordered our sodas, they handed us two bottles. We asked for glasses with ice and the girl said "we dont have ice" right after we saw the :waiter" bring a bowl of ice to the table next to us. We finally received our ice and glasses 10 minutes later. I will say the food was very good. I had the standard lomo saltado and my husband had the jalea. The lomo was very flavorful and it was a good sized portion. After we ate, we asked for the check which they brought quite rapidly. However, we had to wait 10 minutes just for us to get the bill back with our credit card. If it wasn't for the horrible service, we would definitely go back. So 4 stars for the food, 0 stars for the service. read more
