It was better before when Oscar owned the shop. He would charge for diagnosis and put that charge towards repairs. Owner now does not apply the $80 dollars towards repairs. This review is long overdue, but I have to say I'm very thankful for the guys at Tunes Lubes & Smog for taking care of my car fast with a realistic timely manner. I took my car in to replace a thermostat and they were able to get it done within a couple of hours while already being pretty busy. Jason is the man, I highly recommend his services, very professional, his shop well organized and also has reasonable prices. They took a look at other things but were very honest letting me know that some of the parts were not an emergency to replace right away and instead left the door open for me to come back to them for when I need them again. Will be posting link and or title to YouTube video of them ripping my rear view mirror with screen right off and they still denied it. All I asked was a $100 of compensation although it costs more than that. Spoke with Fermine and he couldn't be bothered to get back to me after a month, more than fair on waiting to hear back. Just spoke with James, who says he saw the video and "sees no wrong doing" and to go ahead and post the video. In the video you can see the vehicle on the property, then somebody starts grabbing at the camera while somebody next to him says "no no no no!" then a loud clunk is heard as the camera is jerked violently then cuts out. James says the camera was merely being adjusted as the driver needs to see. There is a screen mounted to the mirror, which was ripped off left hanging by wires, showing a rear camera view of the entire back view. It doesn't need adjustment ‍ The front interior camera caught the audio and video I'll posting a link to and or title to. New camera installed also records when vehicle moves slightly or is hit. Neighbors also have cameras facing parking in case you trying anything. read more

Rip off, DO NOT GO I went to Tunes Lubes & Smog in 966 Hollister St. San Diego and they ripped me off over $150. The sensors go for $50 but I didn't investigate before hand. Second, they tried to sell me an illegal Catalytic Converter Manga Clova brand new (yet it was already opened out of the box) for $1356 which can be bought for $200 online. They also tried to charge me $448 for Gaskets when a full gasket kit for the car would cost less than $120. Oscar doesn't know what he is talking about and disappeared on the day I was towing my car to a different place when I wanted to challenge him on these prices. I highly suggest to anyone you do not go there unless you want to be ripped off. Do your research on the price of the parts. Basically entire cost would have been over $2300 with an illegal part that would not pass Smog. I was able to get it all fixed for about $1000 at the dealer instead. Took a friend's car in because it was overheating. Left for diagnosis. Diagnosis, blown head gasket. They would repair for $3300.00. Son came down with a test kit for blown head gasket. Wasn't blown. We took it to another automotive repair shop in IB and they also tested it. It wasn't blown and wasn't overheating. They decided it was a stuck thermostat. I went back to Tunes Lubes & Smogs today and asked for my $55 diagnostic fee back. They said no! That the second and third test for a blown head gasket wasn't done correctly. read more

I just needed a simple smog check and if this is how they treat customers for all other services, then I am definitely hitting this place up more often. The female behind the counter was very friendly and took my paperwork right away to get me all set up for the check. Got a coupon from the Penny Saver, had never heard of the place. Fast (done in 30 minutes) and friendly service. I got my car smogged and a copy of the certificate for less than $30. I called around to other places and they were charging a minimum of $40 plus an extra fee for a copy of the certificate. I'd highly recommend this place to anybody. read more

Went there on Wednesday because I needed smog to register a vehicle, called ahead and they said it's first come first serve, when I got there there was only a car waiting so I was in and out in less than am hour, super friendly service from the lady at the counter and from the smog tech, he recommended some quick fixes to the car that I already knew it needs so glad to hear he didn't just suggest mayor stuff, will recommend to anyone that needs a smog.
