My SUV needed a "brake and light" inspection for a DMV registration renewal. I called over 10 auto shops in Chula Vista, and none of them offered this service. I came upon Orec Imports on the web and gave them a call. The technician on the phone was pleasant and courteous. He informed me that they did handle brake and light inspections, told me how long it would take, and even quoted me the price. He set up an appointment for the next morning. My SUV inspection was completed within the time specified and passed with no problems. I received my certified inspection certificates and paid for services rendered. I want to start off by saying that I truly depend on my auto mechanic. My father passed away and I don't have him here physically to lean and rely on for things like this as I once did. There are so many WONDERFUL things I could say about Javier and his mechanic shop Orec. He is dependable, caring, kind, honest, dedicated, reliable, considerate, courteous, knowledgeable, solution, focused, and down to earth. I could go on and on! Also, Ramon, who is at the front desk is kindhearted and knowledgeable. I always feel extremely comfortable and confident in speaking with him! Edgar, who manages the front office, as well is proficient, a factfinder, easy to talk to and pragmatic. The owner, Javier's wife is thoughtful and warm-hearted. Due to neurological reasons I can only drive ALL WHEEL or REAR WHEEL vehicles, and I really lean on Javier and his staff. They will keep your car without telling you to get that overnight fee of your car staying a extra day . They had my car for over a week. He said nothing was wrong with it and charge me $135 on top of a credit card surcharge the 3%. To tell me nothing was wrong with the vehicle. I advised them that a wheel bearing was going out in the left front of the car. They kept insisting that it was nothing wrong with it even though there is a consistent roaring sound in the front of the car. Come to find out it was a wheel bearing is bad. Came highly recommended by a friend. Back brakes on a truck + right caliper replacement. All said and done it was $526.00. Shocked because it moved up from near $300. But that was before learning of the Caliper needing replacing. Immediately I asked about that super rise in cost. He did a little grunting with me a bit and he dropped it to $504.00. However. I'd learned while in the waiting area, that the Orec Imports site offered a 10% off to Veterans. Which is just what I needed. Naturally, figuring he (Javier) would likely issue this based on his full cost offer. So $526 right? -- No. He tells me I should have told him this from the beginning. Now it is $545. -- Well okay, let's take 10% off of this. This is now $490 right? He didn't like that either. You could see this was causing a physical discomfort for him. We finally settled on a price and I wound up with $496. This is a struggle to get 9%. Plus as a side note. Businesses in general would do themselves and the customer a massive favor if they would give people prices for items and services that included all costs. So in this case. Haggling with a discount offer they advertise is worth a not so favorable review. And $6 shorting veteran's you advertise to. Not trying to ruin the guys business, but he had the moment (about 4 hours) to work it out. He chose to look at me as part of his bottom line right in front of me. Instead of a person coming in looking for good work. Possibly a good deal if I could get it. I'm sure the work was good. But besides the warranty, there's no need to go back there.
