Delicious Turkish food. Done right. The Spanakopita is the best I've ever had anywhere ever. The Gyro is fabulous. Meat cut right off the spit and grilled to perfection. Served on a pita with a wonderful salad. I've had other things on the menu. All really good but I keep coming back to that lip smacking Gyro. P.S. I decided to try the Chicken Kabob this evening. Great family operated business in Anchorage. Being outside of downtown most of the clientele seemed to be locals and it was full in the middle of the week which usually means you found a gem. We sat at the bar to avoid the wait for a table. Service was quick and pleasant. I was surprised that they carried rekorderlig, a Swedish beer that is one of my favorites. We had Spanakopita for an appetizer. Super crisp exterior and stuffed. For entrees we had the Adana Shish Kebab and the Shepard's Stew. Both were great meals expertly seasoned. Sitting at the bar we could see the cooks at work and the older man who prepared our meals checked in and asked if everything was to our liking. I took off one star because their vertical rotisserie for shawarma was out of commission cutting about a third of their meal options off the menu. Very much enjoyed dinner at Turkish Delight. New owners and completely different vibe. I'd be lying if I didn't say that miss the old restaurant -- it was more cozy and romantic with the guitarist in the corner and dad cooking in the kitchen. That said, the new owners are doing a wonderful job. Service was just excellent, and we very much enjoyed the food. We started with the meze platter because we couldn't decide which appetizer to get. Particularly loved the saksuka and the humus. Yum! I had the kofte (meatballs) and liked them very much. Secret suggestion: If you like spicy food (and I do!), ask for a side of their spicy sauce and it takes the meatballs to a higher level. The restaurant was full by 5:30 p.m. so do make a reservation if there on a Friday or Saturday night. They seemed to have many take orders going on as well. If forced to give what i hope is constructive feedback: the rice was not a favorite, perhaps too oily, and the lighting in the kitchen part of the restaurant way too bright so as to take away from the ambiance of the dinning area of restaurant. If you could find a way to shield/block/change it that would be welcome. All in all a lovely dinner. read more

Very good! Staff and service was friendly and food was fresh and tasty. I had the falafel sandwich with a side salad and my husband had the doner kabob sandwich with rice instead of salad. I also tried their Turkish coffee and baklava and they did not disappoint. You can taste the homemade goodness in every bite. I think it's cool how you can sit at the bar and watch them roast/thinly cut the meats and watch them cook everything. They also have a fantastic craft beer selection. This place is small so probably not the best for super large parties of 6 or more. My only complaint is that my side salad was waaaaaaaay too salty, I could hardly eat it. Next time I will ask for dressing on the side if possible. But other than that everything was wonderful and I would absolutely recommend this place and come back. read more

Ever had those moments when you could SWEAR you've wrote a review - but then can't find it. That is Turkish Delight. Discovered this wonderful spot when I was back in Alaska on business, before moving back. Love the atmosphere, the people and the food. The Menu is not large. But is has a little something for everyone, and everything I've tried has been incredible. The chef has also on two occasions prepared something I love but is rarely on any Menu due to time involved in prep - and it has been WONDERFUL. The Turkish Tea - I can't get enough and know I drink way to much of when I go. Try a little over everything - the "spicy" is spicy, but not necessarily "hot", a distinction not often found and again, something I enjoy. I don't know how well a Large Group is handled here, but I love coming here with the wife, or small groups of friends. And don't forget to try a lunch visit someday. I just learned I liked Gyro's after trying one at the Alaska Sate Fair so I was on a mission to find a local restaurant who made them. We stopped in on a Friday night. They prefer reservations since it's a small restaurant. We sat at the bar and watched the cook make all of our food which was a nice experience. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The falafel's were the perfect size and the simple dressing on the side salad was so flavorful. The Gyro was hands down delicious. It would be a great order for pick up on the nights you don't feel like cooking. Definitely will be coming back! read more

It's funny how people eat with their eyes. This is definitely a delicious looking restaurant. It's lovely inside. And the servers are also wonderful. But the food is really mediocre. I think because middle eastern food is woefully under represented in Alaska, people here have low standards. So let me tell you the truth about this place: -the portions are small -everything is over priced and alacarte -the menu is extremely limited -black pepper and garlic (two of my favorite flavorings) are used excessively -the rice served with the meals is completely without flavor Folks, this place is sham. It really is beautiful inside and the ambiance is awesome. But don't be deceived. Try ordering take out if you want some perspective. You'll see what I mean. read more

Well I've never been to Turkey, but I kinda like the music. Seriously, no idea if this food is authentic, but I do know it's damn good! I had the Iskender Doner kebab. Came with a little bit of everything: sauce, salad, meat and house-made bread bits (sounds weird, is not). Given the "delight" in the name, I wanted to try the dessert (something I rarely do). I went with the Kanzandibi. It's caramelized milk pudding, it's very good. The whipped cream, mint leaf, and raspberry was a nice touch! I paired it with a cup of sludgy Turkish coffee. Something I've heard great things about but never gotten around to trying. I love my coffee STRONG, so I wasn't worried about not liking it. It was very good, I just wish it was a wee bit bigger (caffeine addict here, takes a lot for me to "feel it"). BUT, it came with an actual mini Turksih Delight, perfect accent! Waitress was very friendly and service was great. Nice ambiance. The appetizers look great, I need to come back with friends. Not only did Anchorage not have a Turkish restaurant, this part of town is a food DESERT. Why? I'm not sure. Why are there not oodles of mom n pop eateries and pubs next to a COLLEGE CAMPUS? If you want to impress your date, take them to Turkish Delight for a romantic setting and delicious food. I decided to mix it up for my birthday and try somewhere new. I'm happy to say, I now have a new restaurant to add to my rotation. We had the spanakopita as our appetizer. The spanakopita was ok, but Turkish Delight really shined when it came to the entree and desert. My husband and I both ordered the evening's specials. He had lamb which the waitress described as being so tender that it was like "meat butter". My goodness, she wasn't kidding. This was the most tender, fall of the bone, meat I've ever had. I had the crab stuffed halibut which was in a lemon cream sauce. This was the most expertly cooked halibut I've ever tasted. The lemon wasn't overpowering, and the meal was buttery and perfectly balanced. For dessert, we of course had the baklava, and Turkish coffee. The baklava was perfection, and came with a birthday candle for me. The Turkish coffee was in the most adorable cups I've ever seen. The coffee was black but it was smooth and almost seemed to have notes of chocolate and spices. I loved it! On the night we were here, there was also a live guitarist playing. The ambiance was classy and romantic due to the dark lighting. I can't wait to go back. I'd love to try the falafel next time. read more

I have lived in Europe and while there grew a taste for doner kebab's. I have been wanting to try Turkish Delight for awhile now and let's just say they didn't disappoint. The meat was tender and well seasoned the pita was warm and soft mixed with a perfect blend of pickled vegetables and wow. The taste about knocked you over it was so flavorful. Very happy with my meal at Turkish Delight, Anchorage's newest hole-in-the-wall. Nestled in the strip mall that is home to the Fed-Ex ship and copy center, this new gem is sure to please. My party ordered three appetizers. I loved the baba ghanoush but we also enjoyed the spanakopita and dolmas. The flaky pastry of the spanakopita was so light and delicious it melted in your mouth- as my mom said, "I'd come back here just to eat the spanakopita!" For entrees the table got two kabab entrees, the chicken kabab and the lamb. Everyone agreed that my chicken skewers were the best because the meat was so tender and it was seasoned with a bit of spice. The kabab were good but lacked that extra flavor that the chicken had. My dad liked his lamb but said it did have a natural gas taste. By the end of our meal we were all stuffed and satisfied. I'll be sticking to my chicken entree for back up but I'm interested to try some other menu items. Service was quick and friendly. Ambience was awesome as well, I love the decor. read more

Several visits and I noticed people come camp out waiting for one person or 5 to show up and it takes over an hour most cases and there are barely 7 tables if I remember correctly. People come and don't leave so business is really in the take out. I know dining out is an event but honestly I saw repetitive inconsiderate customers waiting over 30 minutes for the party to arrive and people sitting after the meal for an hour. read more

My sister belongs to a lunch group that selects a new restaurant every week to visit. Usually I cannot go as my schedule does not place me in the correct city. But I do ask her how her lunch went and this time she RAVED!!! Insisted we go visit that very day. She even insisted on paying!!! Turns out that all six ladies of the lunch group had ordered a different lunch (with assistance from one of the owners), and all six RAVED about their lunch. This had never happened before. So I accompanied my sister and she ordered me the most expensive lunch on the menu ($39.) lamb chops perfectly grilled and spiced. They were juicy, tender and flavorful. The rice was every bit as wonderful. Yes, there was plenty to take home. I reheated slowly in the toaster oven and enjoyed a dinner that was every bit as great as lunch. Oh, how I crave good ethnic food in Anchorage. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner. Great food with good portion sizes. I have been both for lunch and dinner - same menu. The space is nicely decorated with a lot of Turkish art. Nice ambiance for a casual dinner, but also nice enough for a date. Mostly 2 or 4 person tables, but there is also a larger table that would be good for a large group. As for food, they have a variety of tapas/appetizers including hummus, babaganoush, and kebabs. I recently tried the dolmas which are grape leaves with lemon and rice. You get 5 on the plate. Tasty! For the main course, there are some meat and vegetarian dishes. Since I went for lunch recently, I got the gyro which was packed with meat and that delicious tzatziki cucumber sauce. It came with a side of salad. The meatballs were also great. Very flavorful with a little spice. For this reason, maybe a little harder to bring kids here, but a nice way to build their palate. They also have Turkish coffee and tea as well as a beer and wine menu. A little on the pricier side for lunch. Somewhere between $15-18 for mains. Staff are friendly and attentive. Parking lot in front. Single person bathroom. I would definitely go back and recommend trying - especially if you have never had Turkish food before! read more

I went here for lunch a few days ago with my mother after reading a lot of positive reviews on this place. Turkish Delight is located in a strip mall tucked in the corner next to Sicily's Pizza and the FedEx store off of Northern Lights Blvd. and Lake Otis Pkwy. The seating area was cozy and inviting with furnishings and art on the walls to give the place an exotic Middle Eastern feel to it. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who quickly seated us along with two glasses of ice water. She also handed us menus and gave us a couple of minutes to look over the selections without feeling rushed. She mentioned the specials for the day: Moussaka (eggplant, sliced potatoes, ground beef, zucchini, and a tomato-based sauce topped with plenty of melted cheese) or a specialty vegetable soup. I easily went with the Moussaka and my mother decided to go with the Anatolian Salad (mixed greens tossed with red and green peppers, cucumbers, olives, mint, and lemon dressing topped with feta cheese, parsley, and dill). There was also an appetizer called Dolmas (grape leaves stuffed with herbs and pine nuts) which I haven't had in ages that I just had to order. The Dolmas came out in just a couple of minutes and they were absolutely delicious. The grape leaves were brushed with extra virgin olive oil and the spices mixed in with the herbs provided a flavorful complement to the pine nuts. Our orders came a few minutes later and I eagerly went to the Moussaka. Their version was the best that I've had recently with the marinara-like tomato sauce pairing up perfectly with lots of melted cheese. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and provided a good counterbalance to the layers of ground beef and fried eggplant. Seasoned rice on a separate dish made for the perfect side of the main entree. My mother could not stop raving about the Anatolian Salad. It came with a large variety of mixed vegetables and massive chunks of feta cheese (like a 1/4 of the block!) drizzled with parsley and mint on top. She thought this was the kind of salad she could eat any day of the week in addition to being a very healthy option. Mom and I enjoyed every minute filling our bellies. Last but not least, I saw a dessert on their menu that I have not seen in any other Mediterranean restaurant I've been to here in Anchorage, their namesake Turkish Delight. I have loved these little treats since I was a kid and this was always a family favorite during the Christmas season. For those not familiar with this dessert, it is more commonly known in the US as Aplets & Cotlets which can be found in stores like Fred Meyers or Walmart during the holidays. The waitress gave me several different flavors which I can only guess was a berry flavor and shaved almonds with honey as well as powdered sugar sprinkled on top. Our waitress was even nice enough to throw in a few extra pieces when I told her that this was a childhood favorite. After such a great meal, there was no question that I would come back to try some of their other menu items. Ones that caught my attention were the Baba Ghanoush (roast eggplant puree seasoned with garlic (yes!) and extra virgin olive oil topped with yogurt), the Doner Kebab (rotisserie beef and lamb served on a bed of seasoned rice with tzatziki sauce on the side), and the Lamb Pirzola (lamb chops served with rice). One of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had recently and it was really cool to watch the owner and the chefs prepare the meals next to the tables. I hope this place stays around for a long time and I encourage other Yelpers to try this place out if they haven't done so already. I really rarely give a 5 stars but I didn't find anything disappointing with this location. I was honestly impressed. First of all the ambience is perfect. The music is a mixture of piano and violin melodies which really set the mood. The decor is super lovely and feels authentic. Service was great. Now the food was phenomenal. For an appetizer I had lentil soup with pita and spinach and feta pastries which my date and I devoured truly. The main course we had falafel gyro and she had lamb which was killer man. The falafel tasted so fresh and homemade. Lastly the star of the show the damn baklava. On GD boi it was KILLER. With some black tea to sip it all down son I was ready to nap in Turkish Delight. But seriously the baklava ranks one of the best I've had. Also they serve it cold not warm. I've had baklava from Dubai before which was my best and I gotta say Turkish Delight really does deliver. I came back to visit Anchorage after almost a year and was excited to visit one of my fav restaurants in town. First thing I noticed was change in the seating which is not a big deal as I normally order take out. I ordered the chicken kabob but it did not taste anything like before. The rice I used to love was tasteless and uncooked. Chicken was bland and came in cubes rather than 2-3 pices of breast as before. Salad was also not same and didn't even look good enough for me to try. Lentil soup that I loved was different and bland and tasteless. I am very disappointed and not really sure what happened to previous owners but the food now is just plain bad and as much as I hate to say it, not worth wasting my money anymore. read more

We picked up 2 orders of Adana Shish Kebab and it was the most dissatisfying and disappointing meal...This is one of many of our favorites from this restaurant but it is clearly no longer the same restaurant. I'm so heartbroken to learn Turkish Delight restaurant has gone through a change of ownership Dear new owner, you bought the restaurant because it was a successful business with a solid loyal customer base or you wouldn't have bought the restaurant. It was successful because their food was great. Why then would you go and change the food or how it used to serve their dishesWhy would you not take care to follow the recipe especially with the crowd favorites such as adana? You want to keep your customer base and then you can slowly add other items on the menu. If you thought you could do better, you would have had your own restaurant and wouldn't have needed to buy this, would you? Their rice was so delicious but no more of that buttery rice, no more grilled jalapeños with Adana, salad had a few sad pieces of lettuce and ungodly amount of shaved carrots and no dressing. Why would you change the menu??? So sad to see a successful restaurant get bough out and the new owner or chef decide to change things and watch it slowly burn. Then they wonder what happen? First time here since the re-opening. Firstly -- I wanted to like this place, as I love Turkish food. Sadly it just doesn't add up - so let me explain. Got right in for a 7:15 res - sat down and then preceded to wait - and wait -- no water - no greeting - and wait. We had time to glance around the room and both noticed that it was uncommonly bright inside - lots of light from both outside and in. Maybe it's just us but we like a dark cozy atmosphere. Finally the waitress comes over, looks at our table and says "you mean they didn't even give you water yet?" What did she think we were supposed to say? We ordered drinks which were brought on time and then ordered. My wife had a delicious bulgar dish - and the melted cheese app -- both very good. I got the gyros plate -- very excited to try it -- but then noticed that they have a vertical spit (just like in Turkey) but the meat was one of those processed rolls of mystery substance. It was shaved nicely - thin but the flavor? BLAND. Plus it came with a yogurt sauce -- not tzatziki -- wow big difference -- I finally got some -- delicious. We did not stay for dessert. Anchorage is one of the last places in North America that I would expect to find quality Mediterranean food. Fortunately, Turkish Delight proves me wrong. Tucked away in a part of town that most tourists never visit this restaurant is one of the better that we have found in Anchorage. And while it's a small restaurant it dishes out quality food and big flavor. Unfortunately, because it isn't overwhelmed by tourists it doesn't get the same exposure on social media that many other popular restaurants like Moose's Tooth, Glacier Brewhouse, 49th State Brewery and others do. This is good and bad. It's poor for business, but it's good news for you because there might be a place for you to sit in the small restaurant. What we can guarantee is that the food here is going to be far better than average. In fact, this restaurant would survive in larger cities like Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles and I know that because I've eaten quality Mediterranean food everywhere on the West Coast and what you find here rivals most of the others. It is some of the better food you're going to find in Anchorage. Don't be afraid to go out on a limb and try something on the menu that you may not be familiar with. Their main dish tends to be the doner kebab which is like shawarma if you've never heard of this terminology before. Normally, they serve it with a small salad and rice. This meal comes as a entree or in pita bread. And if you're going to come as far as trying this you better order the red lentil soup. They do a heck of a job with it here.
