We stopped by for lunch after checking out the aquarium. The food was great! We sat outside overlooking the water which was a nice view but awfully hot in the middle of summer. For lunch we ordered: hummus with pita bread and shrimp which came with salad lining the plate and some sort of tomato sauce. They were both excellent! For entree we ordered the chicken kebab and the combination plate of chicken kebab and kofta and paired those with their lemonade. Everything was great! The lemonade tasted like it was homemade and the entrees were so fresh and seasoning on the meat and rice were perfect! The meats were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the rice pudding and baklava. Simply put the food was very tasty, tender and cooked to perfection. The view was beautiful and serene. The service was great. The reason for the 4 stars rather than 5 was the lack of AC inside the restaurant. On this scorcher of a day we were hoping to sit indoor with cool air circulating around us. I hope they normally have AC and that it was just out this day. read more

Such a horrible and shameful experience from their employees and owner. In a area like this getting such a disgraceful attitude is really sad. While ordering food they told me the food could be costly for me. What a disrespectful for this as a customer. Even owner is not compassionate and complaining against the act of my complain. As good gesture i just complained to him alone not infront of any one. Also i heard similar issue with this restaurant before. Ordered Bulgar Salad, Turkish Cigars, the Lamb and Gyro combination dish and an Efes. Went for an early dinner, there were 6 well sized tables on the patio with a lot of shade. The patio over looks the Peconic river. Service is attentive and polite. Food was very tasty. Bulgar salad was great on the pita. Only complaint was that maybe the lamb was a little tough. The Cigars were light and crispy and cheesy! Will definitely go there again. read more

My boyfriend took me here because he had lunch here with a friend and said everything was delicious. We ordered apps to start, I had the calamari and it was too thick and over cooked. He had the lamb "meatballs" app that came a good 5 minutes after I got my app. I got the lamb gyro and it was good. He ordered the shrimp and lamb chops. He ordered the lamb chops medium rare and they came out very well done and the rice was under cooked. Not once did anyone come over to see how everything was or if we needed anything and there was at least 4 of the staff standing around. I wouldn't come back again. read more

Had lunch with some friends today and it was very nice. We had each of the soups: lentil and chicken, which were both good. Also, had the grape leaves, which were also very good. There was a cinnamon flavor to them, which was suprising, but still good. For our meals we had the gyro plate, chicken pita wrap, salad with falafel and the doner wrap. Again, all fresh and delicious. And, we finished the meal with coffee, tea and baklava. The food was delicious, tasted fresh and good sized portions. The service was good as well. Saw on News 12 & had to try. Outstanding, authentic food. Prices are definitely great for the quality & portions of each dish we had. The service was excellent & the waitress was so pleasant, patient & knowledgeable as we asked questions about the dishes. The location is beautiful, right on the water to watch boats go by with ample parking. After, we strolled down the riverwalk to check out the marinas. It is a shame. I am a Turkish citizen and was shocked by the service that my mother and I received from the owner. My elderly mother asked that her table be slightly shifted so that the sun would not shine in her eyes. Her response to my mother was " the sun is good for and you'll get some vitamin D" . Then she took the table and dragged it to the other side barely keeping my drink on the table and almost spilled on me. She told me that I am not an important customer and no different than her as she is important. Your behavior is poor, disrespectful and pitiful. And most sadly is that you treat your own national with utmost ugliness. Remember that the customer is always right and you as an owner should know better. read more

Turkuaz Grill is phenomenally located a few steps from Main Street in Downtown Riverhead on the Peconic River, practically next door to the Aquarium. The restaurant has a welcoming and beachy interior, but can get a bit cramped when it gets packed. And it does get packed because the food is AMAZING. You are guaranteed to have an excellent meal whether you get a kabob platter to stay or a falafel wrap to go. I recommend getting something to go because, while the restaurant is inviting and comfortable, there is nothing better than tucking into a picnic lunch on the banks of the river while watching the birds dish for fish. There is free parking along the river promenade and tables in front of Turkuaz for dining al fresco. The music leans towards Turkish pop and house, which are both surprising more enjoyable than you'd imagine. Try the rice pudding. Its not like the usual pudding you'd find in an American diner. It's baked and is more flavorsome than the usual boiled variety. read more

Only go to this place if you want poor, indifferent service , dried out food and an overall staff that gives you the bum's rush to get out. Other than the hummus, the lamb kebab was drier than the Sahara as was my wife's gyro. Could barely swallow without a huge dollop of sauce. They supposedly serve until 10 and at 10 05 they not so subtlety turn up the lights and open the back door to let the cold air in, very bad form. Turkuaz is simply wonderful. It is a cute little place right off the Peconic river with amazing patio seating overlooking a beautiful scenic view. Its menu more than matches its settings and with charming service, it is the complete deal at a bargain. We tried the chicken shish and beyti kebab platters. I had requested the chicken to be well done and made spicy. The chicken shish came out perfectly charred on the outside marinated on a slight spicy chilly marinade as requested. They were tender and juicy and among the best I've had at a Turkish place. The beyti was a delicious spicy minced lamb kebab which had a nice spicy bite and a wonderfully warm moist rich taste. The platters came with a side of salad greens, creamed beet salad and portions of both white and bulgar rice and it was an interesting experience to have both type of rice on one plate. The beet salad was exquisite and aroused my taste buds like no vegetable has done as of late. Fries, eat your heart out! Our server had an infectious smile and every customizations we had requested had been perfectly communicated to the kitchen. She explained that they had been shut for a long while due to the flood damage from Sandy and had just reopened after almost 6 months. They must have done an incredible job as there was no sign of any damage both inside and out. This is a great place with an incredible view in a cute quirky building with a name to match and simply delicious meals at a bargain. What more can one ask for? No I hadn't died and gone to heaven, I am a hell kind of guy to begin with, however, whatever I tasted at Turkuaz simply tasted divine! read more

It was a beautiful 85 degree day so I needed to get out. I went to the Riverhead Festival when I needed to eat. I've seen this place plenty of times and finally decided to give it a shot. It was the perfect picture that sold me on this place. The water, the sun and the perfect outdoor seating, complete with middle-eastern music put me in the mood to eat definitely here. The service was not the greatest, the waitress were family and young, but they have 100 percent, its just that they took some time. Also they brought out the lunch and appetizer at the same time. I didn't mind at all because I was in no rush. The lite breeze and good company really made me forget some of the mistakes. The owner was extremely friendly. She talked to us and had tears in her eye when I expressed how good the food was. I mean it was great! I've eaten plenty of halal lamb, but this meat was high end. I don't know who is their supplier, but I plan to stake out the place and fine out. I got it without the wrap and it still filled me up. I will return for more food off the menu and for the atmosphere. If you're ever on the east end take a load off and stop in, trust me. read more

You can sip Turkish tea after your deeply satisfying meal and watch from your table as wood ducks, blue heron, cattle egret, swans, cormorants -- and an occasional osprey -- dive for their meal on the Peconic River. We enjoyed their heavenly hummus -- creamy, silken-textured and mildly flavored on pita bread, "Turkish cigars", a feta- filled sort of flauta, and falafel wraps. Four out of five stars because the pita bread was the regular kind you find at Trader Joe's or its equivalent. Went shopping to Tanger Outlets and looked this place up for something to eat. This Turkish place was located next to the water and a stone throw away from the Aquarium. We ordered the Cold Plate combo and selected some hummus, eggplant, lentil, and something else I do not remember on that plate. We also tried the felafel and also ordered the Turkish Lamb meatballs. This is a great place to eat if your in this area. This is a great local gem and worth a try. Is it the absolute best Turkish place, NO, but it is the best within a 25 mile radius so it deserves a 5 Stars!! Gyro looked amazing but we just had to much food. I never write a review after only one visit, but in this case, I HAD to! I drove from Jersey to Riverhead to go to the aquarium. Afterward, looking for a place to eat, we settled on Turkuaz. I'm SO glad we did. The food was absolutely GREAT and I highly recommend it! The hummus appetizer was delicious. I had the donner platter and I loved it all! The lamb was nice, but I especially loved the sides (the beet salad and bulgar). To finish for dessert, I had milk pudding. I'm also a great lover of coffee. When the waitress said she was going to make the coffee how she liked it, I got nervous cause I can be very particular about my coffee. It was served in an espresso cup and when I tasted it, I was in heaven! Perfect coffee and the dessert was not overly sweet but just right! All in all, a perfect meal! Had a light lunch on the back patio overlooking the Peconic River. Everybody is extremely friendly and they seem truly happy to have your business at Turkuaz. We shared a spinach pie, calamari and the falafel plate which has four sides on it- rice, bulgar, beet salad and green salad. Their food is excellent. I didn't think I would ever say this about a restaurant but their food might actually need a little salt which they were happy to provide. After lunch my husband had a Turkish coffee- his new obsession and enjoyed it immeasurably. Great place, check it out sometime. read more
