Similar to Osage Kitchen in philosophy but worse in performance. Expensive, poor service, small portions. Interesting menus ideas but poor execution. Very long wait for food, with server who seemed unaware and then needed to be informed that they might ask the kitchen. I went to brunch at Turn several weeks ago. The food was awesome, but the service was slow and inattentive. I had to ask twice for the coffee I ordered and my boyfriend's soda that he ordered. There were also several instances when my friends had empty drinks, but the server was nowhere to be found for quite a while. There was only one other table in the restaurant at the time, so there was no excuse to me why service was slow. Hoping they iron this out because I did enjoy the food and atmosphere. read more

Great little spot. Good music, not too loud. Atmosphere feels very relaxing and chic/modern. We split an Arepa. Delicious combination of flavors and perfect for a light breakfast. Just had brunch here this morning. Biscuit flight was good. I got the polenta cakes which were good. I wish I had gotten the arepa, like my friend did, after trying one bite I know that's what I'll get the next time I return!!! The seasonal compote for the pancake was strawberry rhubarb, which was tasty! I ordered a drink, which had a definite weird aftertaste, and sent it back for a traditional mimosa, but our server forgot about it until after our entrees came, so I just told her to forget about. This is the best breakfast I have ever had! Smoked salmon with poached eggs and dill hollandaise sauce! My husband had the grilled cheese and tomato soup and it was the best he's ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant. The coffee could be improved though. Great service too! I really wanted to love Turn. It is a very cool, funky space and I like the layout and location. I got the pancakes and some Brussels sprouts. Weird combo I know but I love veggies and it was 11am and I still had a hankering for breakfast food. Both were undercooked. I don't like my pancakes super mushy in the middle, I need at least a little crisp. The brussel sprouts were also extra crunchy(almost raw) but I still ate about half. My boyfriend got a wrap and subbed vegan sausage. It was good except for the oyster mushrooms. They just have an odd chitlin-like texture anyway, portobellas would work much better. The fries that he got with his wrap were delicious though. Seasoned well. It also came with a small cup of chili but the beans were still semi- hard, undercooked. $60 bucks (before tip) wasted. The employees are attentive and are regularly working so you know you always get the best service. I found this place on the app EatOkra, which suggests black-owned local businesses, and my dad and I chose this one while in St. Louis. I'm so glad we did! COVID-19 is still a thing so we got takeout, but they had our food ready in no time! While we waited (for a very short time) for our food, I had a Sierra Mist from their tap, and I swear they put extra sugar in it because YUM! I ordered the strawberry salad because I'm trying to eat less meat, and it was so good! I ate it on Art Hill, and after the first two bites I said, "If this was every meal, being vegetarian would be so easy!" It was the best salad I've ever had, and I'm not exaggerating. Their fries were also heavenly because they actually seasoned them! At first they tasted like sour cream and onion potato chips, which wasn't a bad thing. It felt like a crime to use ketchup, but they were a little spicy for my Caucasian tongue so I ended up doing it anyway, and I still enjoyed them. Eat here!!! read more

We just moved to St. Louis about two months ago, and hands down this was one of the most amazing impromptu dining experiences we have had since living here. Josh our server was super charming, professional and on point and David the owner greeted and chatted with guests like old school bff's would, and it felt so natural. We have been to Turn for brunch 3-4 times and have always enjoyed the food. The space is bright and open with a minimalist decor and the food is creative and delicious. My only complaint is with the wait staff. Most are teenagers or young adults who do not seem to have been trained on the basics of service such as offering coffee refills without the customer having to beg and checking on the table once the food is served. They appear to believe that their only function is taking the order and binging the check. A few lessons in customer service would be a good idea. read more

Let me start by say the food itself is 4.5-5 stars, easily. My wife has a gluten allergy. Even though nothing was marked as gluten free on the menu, because they serve a flourless cake, I assumed they'd be super gluten friendly. When we asked the waiter about it, he used phrasing like "yeah, you should be ok" and "that's probably fine" which is usually an indication that it's time to go find a new place to eat. But we decided to give it a try anyway. The manager (I assume) even came out after we ordered and told my wife they had to make a modification to her order so we felt confident she would be ok. That, however, was not the case. We had to leave a concert early b/c she got glutened. That alone is enough to cross off a place to eat but on top of that our waiter was not good. In addition to his lack of giving an F about gluten, he was just non-existent all night and made us late to the same show we had to leave early. The manager is the one who brought us our food, took our check, etc. the waiter didn't even ask us about dessert... we had to ask him. I'm sad that I won't be going back b/c the food really was good. read more

Fabulous! We stopped by Turn this afternoon for lunch. The menu is varied and it is hard to chose from many good options. I went with the chopped green salad and a biscuit on the side. Perhaps the best salad I have every had out! Simple but outstanding. As for the fresh biscuit with butter and a fresh blueberry compote - yum!! My husband ate the tortilla burger. Wonderful flavors! If you like fresh ingredients and creations of one of St. Louis's favorite chefs, this is for you. Also my favorite whole grain pancakes anywhere! Nice new space with a sunny decor. read more

Terrific food and excellent service. We have eaten at Turn twice (so far), and both times have received truly unique and delicious meals. The biscuits and gravy are a must-try - not your traditional style, but rich and well-rounded. The arepa is great, as well. I think my favorite dish, though it's hard to choose, is the L.E.O. I don't care for poached eggs, so I substituted scrambled, which was perfect with the creamy dill hollandaise, tangy goat cheese, sweet caramelized onions, salty capers, and lightly smoky salmon - on a bed of rye toast. Awesome breakfast! My daughter and I recently had breakfast at Turn and it was great! We started with the biscuit sampler. They were not my Grandma's biscuits - they were better (Sorry Poofie!). They came four different ones to an order and had butter, jam and honey with them. I can't remember all the flavors but I do remember they were all delicious! For our entrées I had the L.E.O. and my daughter had the arepa. The L.E.O. was great, think salmon benedict, only better. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the hollandaise and goat cheese added the right amount of tang. I tasted my daughter's arepa and it was also very good (and they happily made it vegetarian for her). I'm having that next time! We were warmly greeted when we walked in by our server who was friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant is brand new, clean and gorgeous. There is even a free parking lot right across the street, which leaves you no reason not to visit. As soon as I move back into the area, I plan to do just that (repeatedly!). read more

Last night, I had the unfortunate experience of attending the wedding reception of my nephew at Turn. Where do I start? First they brought out the salads, some were dressed, some were not, garnished with roasted pine nuts. Too bad someone forgot to roast the pine nuts. Then out came the entree, a flavorless grilled chicken breast wrapped around a flavorless cheese stick, served cold, with a flavorless potato puck also cold, and randomly cut asparagus just as cold. 15 minutes later, the service staff brought out some gravy, which was excellent, but 15 minutes late. And they brought out the biscuits, 15 minutes later,someone showed up with butter. You have got to be kidding!!! This was the most piss poor dinner service I have ever seen. Do you want to fix this, Chef? serve the salads and bread with butter first, followed by your entree (not cold, use a food warmer or chafing dish), offer seasonings on the table, some patrons may have dietary restrictions, so don't over season, but don't limit the seasonings on the table to a fish bowl with flowers. If a sauce may be needed (in this case, it screamed out for one) serve it at the same time as the entree, not 20 minutes later. If you are the Chef you claim to be, or others have said you are, then prove it. Don't let the wait staff make you look stupid, take charge. You have an awesome venue, don't let it fall to stupid, preventable mistakes. read more

For several days I was looking forward to our dinner at Turn. We had been there for a delicious lunch, and now we were going back for dinner with friends. It was a total disappointment. It started with the wine. I have never seen such small servings of wine, and in one case, it cost $12 for the glass. My comment about the small serving was ignored by the waiter, but then he ignored us throughout most of the dinner, though there were few other people in the restaurant. He didn't clear away empty plates or glasses. The food was so-so. One of us had the scallops which were very uninteresting. Little taste to them. Moreover, we sent them back because they were not hot. The plate was in the kitchen much longer than I would have expected, and when they brought out the scallops for the second time, they were still not hot. The other entree was reasonably good. The portions, however, were like the wine: very, very small. It is almost unheard of it for me to finish everything on my plate, but everyone at our table -- myself included -- finished every drop of food we were served, not because it was so wonderful but because there was so little of it. Will we go back? Highly unlikely! They are too many other places to choose from in Saint Louis. read more
