The first was what has helped me the most. I have worked thus far with Alexa Brown who is doing a phenomenal job taking me seriously. I struggle with the impression that the people around me do not, on even the most fundamental level, have any respect for me, and, as I unravel myself in order to heal the parts of myself about which I'm most ashamed, Alexa's unwavering validation has been invaluable. I could not have asked for a person to whom it is easier to speak. The second was the ease by which I have been able to access therapy. I found it surprising that I could manage to fit anything at all into my schedule, given how much I've struggled to access other forms of healthcare since moving to New Mexico. I've just finished the 12 week DBT program at Awake and Aware with immense gratitude and a new…read morefound sense of accomplishment in my recovery. My journey has been a rough one like so many other people, and I have tried everything to try and make better choices and leave old behaviors behind. There were so many times I thought I would never find the right program or therapist, until now. The 12 week group was a perfect introduction to DBT skills, with course content provided and a well led, easy to understand class. The class was led by two therapists, Stephanie and Vanessa. They are both well versed in DBT, mindfulness, and couldn't be mor friendly, helpful, and understanding. I immediately felt a connection and developed a rapport with Stephanie who is now my therapist going into the comprehensive program. I could not be happier, Ive already had two sessions with Stephanie and am happy to report I finally found the help Ive been looking for! If you are like me and traditional programs are not for you, give Awake and Aware a chance! They really have been a blessing for me. Also, thanks to Sabrina who always greets you with a smile!

The first session she took measurements…read more The second session was cancelled; the office called us only 20 minutes before the appointment to let us know. We were in the car driving because we live 40+ minutes away. The remaining appointments were silently cancelled shortly after. The office did not bother to call us, we called them before our scheduled appointment to verify. No one answered so we left a message. Our call was not returned. We called another location that didn't offer OT, and they are the ones that told us all our appointments had been cancelled. Without commenting on Maggie's competency, we find the treatment we were given by the front office utterly unacceptable.

Overall could have been better. It may be barely okay - but not safe. PT and OT were good…read more Staff for the most part were friendly - not always competent. I had to wait long times for help to get to and from bathroom. Doctor and PT said that I was to have help getting into and out of wheelchair. Even when they came, they only watched, didn't help. At one time I was told to just do it myself - not to bother them. The worst was the private Care Conference scheduled for a conference room. The previous person overstayed, was not told she had to leave, and so my meeting was held in the hallway - most likely against HIPAA. Private information was openly revealed where others could hear. And, little if any suggestions were valid for when I was to go home. One suggestion was just to sell my house. Food was ok, but usually cold. Twice when I ordered ala carte, I got the standard meal. Breakfast was ok, but often not what I ordered. A number of times a nurse tech woke me from sound sleep to ask how I was doing. I arrived on Tuesday after four days in bed in the hospital. I asked for a shower - told not today, but tomorrow. Asked every day and finally got a shower on Friday. Had to "beg" to get a shower twice a week. Staff allowed roommate to have loud company one evening to nearly midnight. I had to ask for a bill. I messaged, emailed, and called. I finally got one that showed I was 120 days past due. I had not even been at Manzano Del Sol 120 ago when I got the bill -- and my insurance paid the first 20 days. Also - if I pay by credit card they will charge me over $100 extra. I would suggest trying another facility for your rehab if you have a choice.

A few appear to genuinely be interested in helping. Several behave as though they're rather bored with the job. There's very little consistency with who is helping you. It's pretty apparent who the newer and less experienced employees are, they're still enthusiastic. The rest pretty much mirror the owner who appears to care less.
