I loved Dr. Patel but I have been treated very poorly by this office so will be looking for a new dentists. I have made two appointments where I was cancelled first because the appointment that made was not a real appointment and then most recently I made an appointment as a cleaning and I was told with less than 24 hours notice that I had to have a full visit and xrays before I could have a cleaning and they suggested that I change my schedule with less than 24 hour notice to accommodate them. I asked them to let me have my cleaning and let me schedule the other appointments and they would not let me. I am really sad and the illogical explanations that I received were infuriating. read more

As someone who used to think dentists were just for people who couldn't resist candy, my opinion has recently changed. I started visiting Dr. Avendanio for routine check-ups a number of years ago (on my wife's strong recommendation - she is the definitive candy eater in our household). When I say strong recommendation - when we were living out of state, she even made a point to fly in to see him to get a second opinion on the issues she was having with her teeth because she trusted him that much. During my visits, he would usually remark about my thick enamel and great teeth during his check up, and while I appreciated these talking points to share with my wife later from our brief interactions, I always felt like he was very caring and knowledgeable. But after my most recent experience, I can say that Dr. A not only won the genetic lottery for dentistry (if you meet him, you'll understand), but he is also extremely skilled and professional. I had - for the first time since puberty - developed an actual need for a dentist due to an issue with my bite. He is extremely caring, conservative (which I like), skilled, and ultimately just wanted the best for me. He even consulted with a number of other orthodontists and dentists to gauge their opinion on the best course of action. The approach he recommended has essentially corrected my entire issue with minimal invasiveness, which is what I wanted. His dedication to his patients is paramount and it shows. I went to Turtle Creek Dental Associates today as a new patient. Parking was confusing, but there's a garage next to the place you can park in the visitors spots and walk over. The office is located on the 10th floor. I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and quickly was taken to get x-rays and pictures. There was a slight mix-up with my appointment in that I had to schedule my cleaning for a different time, but luckily it worked out. My dental tech, Tanya was very nice and helpful. She answered all my questions. My dentist, Mr. Patel, was very nice and efficient. He filled a small cavity for me in less than 10 minutes. The view from the office windows was a gorgeous lookout over turtle creek. I know I will be going to this dentist as long as I am in Dallas! read more

I went to this clinic once for teeth cleaning, the dental hygienist was lovely and did a great job. My issue was the very misleading near salesman tactic of the dentist by trying to get me to sign off on a custom night guard that would cost me around $700 that was NOT covered by insurance bc I had "evidence" that I was grinding my teeth and wearing them down. I have since seen two other dentists and neither of them could see any evidence of teeth grinding and said that is absolutely not a concern of mine. I take great issue with any practice misleading patients in order so sell products/services. read more

Except for a brief stint of 9 years of not living in Dallas, I have been seeing Dr. Avendanio since 2005. I can sincerely say he is the best dentist I have ever seen. In the early days, his daughter would often be in the office after school and you really got a good family vibe from the office. The staff is warm, helpful, and efficient. I stopped by today for the first time since the pandemic so it has been a minute but I was pleasantly surprised to see a fully renovated office. I was promptly seen for a general check up and cleaning. I like their new process of doing the X-rays and the exam prior to the cleaning. Seems much more efficient. The new office is clean, tech updated, and inviting - well as much as it can be for a dental office! The only small recommendation I'd have is to move more of the paperwork online. It always feels like the 80s when you walk in and are handed a stack of papers to fill out! They did send a COVID questionnaire via text prior to the appointment so that was nice. I'd highly recommend Dr. A to anyone looking for an outstanding dentist! read more

No follow up from this dental office and this must be called out. I had not been told that my insurance would not go through, and I offered to pay out of pocket. The office cancelled my appointment and when I was informed, I conveyed my sadness to the Office Manager. She did not appreciate my disenchantment and then cancelled me from coming back. I spoke highly of them at my recent University of Houston keynote speech. The doctor never called me back. Now, I will stop payment on my last service. Doctors are good but the office staff is horrific--something we all see nowadays post Covid. I had already spoken to the doctor about previous unanswered or lack of follow up. I had scheduled implants and the woman who scheduled my surgery had recognized the lack of communication within the office team members. I had a three-star experience here, which means I would consider returning, but I plan on checking out a few other dentists in the next six months. I visited for a cleaning. And even though I thought the person who serviced me did a fantastic job, I think they could do a better job helping new clients (like myself). A few of things: ***** I. Streamlining health insurance, COVID-19 screening, and general info: I completed at least two different forms (located in separate emails and texts) in addition to receiving two late afternoon phone calls the day before. If one form existed that allowed me to fill out ALL of the information, it would make life easier for both of us. II. Confusion w/ Communication: When I arrived, they asked me if I brougth my insurance card, despite me giving my information over the phone and noting I couldn't find the actual copy. If they needed it, I should've received a notification about it. That way, I could've printed it out. *A few communication issues occurred, too, when they tried to measure my mouth for Invisalign. Without explaining what they would do, they inserted a phallic tool in my mouth, which felt incredibly uncomfortable. III. Parking & Location: It would have helped to receive information about parking, what floor to take the elevator, etc. Again, I enjoyed the hygienist who worked on my teeth -- I forget her name -- but I feel like Turtle Creek Dentistry could improve in a few areas. read more

Amazing service and excellent care! I'm so pleased with the care I received from Dr Borel and the staff at Turtle Creek Dental. I have a number of dental issues, including TMJ and gum recession. They answered my concerns, developed a plan, and gave me suggestions for action that I can take, but they never tried to upsell or push anything on me like I've heard other places do. Dr Borel and his staff made me feel like I was their only patient, giving me plenty of time for discussion, and never rushing me. I think this might be my favorite dental office ever. Previous visits were just fine. This week I show up to my appointment, and I'm told I don't have one. I pull up my most recent email from them showing confirmation of appointment. She says it was cancelled through their third party texting system. I pull up the texts and show my confirmation and a return confirmation text from the third party system. I get it, stuff happens. But then they say their hands are tied on schedules and the next appointment that works for my schedule is 8 weeks. The only open ones before that I'm traveling or have appointments I can't move. They didn't attempt to do anything to fix their mistakes. Stuff happens, but have a little customer service when you no notice cancel somebody's appointment. read more

Don't waste your time. Very strange practice. I had a consultation today for a whitening and while at the appointment I was told it would cost $500-$600 and set an appointment for next week. This was great because it was cheaper than what I was going to pay at another nearby office, and that office doesnt have availability anytime soon...which is the only reason I ended up at this one. The first sign that I should go elsewhere was when the dentist told me I would have to pay out of pocket for the mandatory cleaning prior to the whitening because I had X-rays done at another office two months ago and insurance wouldn't cover another one so soon. Instead of advising me to have that office transfer over the X-rays for free, they just told me I'd have to pay for the cleaning until I took the initiative to ask if the X-rays could be transferred. I didn't pay this much attention. An entire hour after leaving the office, the receptionist Samantha calls me to pressure me into paying half of the cost of the teeth whitening right then on the phone with her......mind you my appointment is 5 days away. When I asked if I could pay when in office next week - right before my appointment - she told me no the latest I could pay is the day before the appointment. This is the first dentist I've been to in Dallas that is this unprofessional to not tell me this upfront and then call up my phone requiring me to pay in advance for a service. I'm not sure if the receptionists are a bunch of idiots or they are advised on which specific clients to try this with after you come in...but rather than giving out that kind of information over the phone I took my business elsewhere. The receptionist was also extremely hostile when I entered and did not greet me at all when I entered and started approaching their desk, even though I was the only person in the lobby. As dentists, I was impressed with both Dr. Avendanio and Dr. Shuman and that's why I wanted them to be my dentist. However, much as I wanted them to be my dentists, their office has terrible customer service. I've been told twice in the last two months that they can't help me and that I'm out of luck, leaving me on my own to try to find a different dentist to provide the care I need. I've had anxiety about dentists my whole life and this experience is just increasing that anxiety. read more

This office is AMAZING. I get super anxious about the dentist and everyone in this office from reception, to the dental hygienists, and Dr. Avendanio have been so compassionate and understanding of my anxiety. They genuinely seek to ease my fears by figuring out what exactly I'm worried about, explaining everything in detail, providing simple comforts like a blanket and headphones. A lot of people get anxious about the dentist so it can be super common (and even understandable) when staff kind of dismiss it and try to just get you in and out as quickly as possible. It is literally the exact opposite here. While I am seen in a timely manner and feel like I DO get "in and out", they also spend time with me to listen and explain. I really don't know how they manage to have the best of both worlds: efficiency AND compassionate, patient-centered care. I can't say enough good things about this place. My RDH was Carly the first time and Blanca the second, so I want to mention them specifically by name. And when Dr. Avendanio comes in, he is just as caring and engaged. I don't feel like he's rushing/can't be bothered with patient interaction (like I have felt at some dentists in the past). He provides me with thorough explanations of what we're doing and why, breaks things down to seem "manageable", and genuinely involves me in my plan of care. He is realistic and honest about what work needs to be done and when. Everyone in the office is great about being transparent about the pricing/long term plan. They let me know what things cost before starting and explain what exactly I'm paying for, what insurance covers, etc. I didn't mean for this review to be this long but I really wanted to share how wonderful my experience has been!! read more

Called after hours Thursday evening (toothache) and left message. Dr. A. returned call within 15 mins. Said I would receive call before 9.30 am to schedule appt. Call at 7.30 am and scheduled 10.30 am appt. Dr A. quickly identified the issue and proposed a conservative approach. Problem resolved within a couple of days. As always Dr. A's approach was appropriate, professional and conservative, all with his usual kind and gentle demeanour. And to top it, all in the office have absorbed the Avendanio way! read more

Don't expect professionalism from the business office. If you have a request they don't care or better yet send you a invoice from 4 years ago with NO EXPLANATION so you can't dispute anything with them or the insurance company and are just FORCED to pay it. BTW...They had my correct phone number, e-mail address and mailing address that hadn't changed since 2007 but blamed this 4 year delay on my e-mail account putting the invoice in spam. Are you kidding me? BE CAREFUL and make sure that you have researched enough to ask the right questions as I have just had a complete dental exam and was told that I had a history that is very evident in pictures and x-rays of a long term condition that I have NEVER been told before. (Grinding teeth...) This would have been great to know from previous dentist. read more

Dr. Avendanio is the nicest and most thorough dentist I've ever had. Have you ever had your dentist take a camera and scope around while you watch a tv screen? He checks your tongue...and just goes more in depth than most dentists and his dental hiegentist (how to spell?) is hilarious, I forget her name everytime - but it's the older lady with personality +....very knowledgeable and gentle. I have a bad gag reflex and she is always so careful and cognizant of that. If you are looking for a new dentist....I definitely recommend him. read more
