Literally the worst I've been to.i got a quesadilla and expected chicken and cheese like I specifically said,but they just put onions tomato's and cheese on it.their mashed potatoes were so hard I couldn't even chew.these waitresses are very slow and not very helpful either .and the 2 meals we got that weren't good ended up being 40 dollars.do not go here,I do not recommend this at all. read more

Wonderful hidden gem off the beaten path. They have a great menu, something for everyone. We enjoy our meal and the entire experience.

We were looking for a quick bite to eat after taking the Charlotte-Essex ferry. Traveling down the road to Willsboro we decided to eat here based largely on the positive Yelp reviews. The prices initially seemed high, but, if the food were great - or the portions large - it would have been fine. Sadly, they were neither. Scared off by the highest priced items we decided to have some appetizers for our lunch. The $8 wings turned out to be 6 deep fried pieces with a squirt of franks red hot and butter. Good, but certainly not "seriously, the best" as they menu promised. No celery or carrots which may have helped justify the price (more than $1 per wing seems really excessive!). The fondue was fine, again very small, and served with stale bread, apples, red peppers and broccoli. The taste was pretty good but for $15 it should have either been mind blowing or much bigger. My son ate the dumplings - trader joes sized steamed pork dumplings smothered in a sticky teriyaki sauce. Probably the best value but still. The service was nice and the Andes mints with the check were a nice old-school touch. Hopefully, next time we're on the ferry we can find some place either cheaper or better. read more

When a member of our dinner party voiced a complaint to our waitress we were then passed along to the manager who was rude and unhelpful. He did offer us a complimentary desert- but was unable to successfully satisfy our complaint. We then were confronted by the owner, Dave- who was also unable and unwilling to satisfy our complaint. We were given lots of excuses and asked where we were from like that makes a difference- poor customer service and will not be making that trip again. read more

Lots of options for the vegetarians and vegans. I ordered the grilled artichoke hearts well my meat eater family were throwing themselves at my plate after one taste. The folks who orders the dumpling mixed dish LOVED it. Everything was consistently great food, locally sourced and they knew their stuff about the local beers. We came on a Friday night and there was live music that was fantastic. So good we came back the next day!! read more

If we lived in the area, Turtle Island Cafe would be a frequent visit. They feature locally sourced ingredients and seafood. Diner was high quality, and delicious. Gotta try the duck, it was Outstanding ... crispy skin, moist meat and a yummy soy honey glaze and served with rice and fresh carrots, broccoli and asparagus spears. House salads were lightly dressed with a sherry vinaigrette. Friends had the lamb special, and the chicken and pasta carbonara ... they were very happy with their choices. Had an excellent dinner here last night on Valentine's Day. Everything we ordered from the prix fixe menu was deliciously prepared and artfully presented. The live jazz combo made it feel as though we were not in a small town in the Adirondacks but somewhere else, much more urbane. This restaurant lived up to the good reviews. It is a little pricey, but we went for a special occasion, and loved it. The space is charming, our server was very friendly, and the food was delicious! I had the cedar plank salmon - cooked to perfection. We had to try the special appetizer - fried squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese, with grilled summer squash over a salad of greens. Yum. They have a large selection of beers, including local brews. read more

First off, this place has one of the BEST burgers I've ever had. It was perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of everything on it. The caesar salad was also great, especially the parmesan crisp, and would make the perfect start before any meal. Besides the food being great, the staff was also incredible, and the chef was just awesome! Such a friendly group and lovely atmosphere, making the overall dining experience extremely pleasant. I don't live on the East Coast, or even close to Turtle Island, but I will most definitely be making a stop here whenever I find myself in Willsboro. read more

This was an amazing dining experience. The atmosphere was amazing, with the perfect music to accompany the food. The staff was beyond friendly, and the food was some of the best I've had in a while. The French onion soup and caesar salad were among my favorite of the dishes, and I recommend them highly. I also had the pleasure of ordering the burger, and it was perfectly cooked. It was juicy and tender, while retaining a rich smokey flavor. All in all, if you appreciate a fine dining experience, with a side of friendly, and homely staff, I would travel across the world to dine at Turtle Island. read more

We stopped in here for the first time with friends of ours that are from the Willsboro area. The place was cozy and welcoming. The bar list was quit extensive, the menu not as large but very unique with great ingredient profile. Both my fiancé and I opted for the Burger and Beer special. The burger was hands down the best classic American style burger I have ever had. The beef patty was the star of the burger. Thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection. We came out with a party of 6 for a birthday. Had reservations and got there early and sat down. Our waitress came over and we put in our drink orders. It took us 30 minutes to get all 6 drinks. Once she brought them over she left without asking if we were ready to order. So we waited about 20 minutes till finally we got her attention to tell her we can order now. (She apparently found that extremely rude because for the rest of the night she slammed our plates, bread, ketchup and mustard when she brought it to us). All the while we watched our waitress seat a table of 4 behind us get them drinks take there orders SERVE them there orders, and then cash them out. Had to have been 45 minutes. At that point we went to the bartender and said we are leaving this is ridiculous. Magically poof the foods ready, so our incompetent waitress brings it out and it's COLD. We asked for to go boxes because we had now been there for OVER 2 HOURS and had other plans. The bartender was very nice to us and apologetic about it all which was the only saving grace. ****HAD to come back and change this to a 1 star now that we were able to speak to the owner DAVE who thought us getting there by 6:30 had drinks by 7:15 and served food by 8:15 was ACCEPTABLE. Either something is In the water in wilsboro or they're smiling something before they get to work!!! read more

Talk about a find - in the quiet little town of Willsboro, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, is this amazing restaurant. Chef Dave is incredibly personable, will often makes the rounds of the tables, and has put together a really fine menu, with both the familiar and the sophisticated. The wine list is surprisingly extensive (I bet you cannot find Shafer's Hillside Select Cabernet in a restaurant within 100 miles), fantastic beer selection, and a very homey atmosphere, with attentive service. A pleasing selection of small plates, extremely affordable, makes you think about ordering two or three and skipping the entrees - not a bad choice - and a great way to try out many different flavors! For entrees, the Asian Roast Duck is simply exquisite. We take the ferry from Vermont regularly simply to dine at the Turtle Island. The entire experience is well worth the half hour ferry ride back and forth - and have brought many friends over the years, who fondly remember their dinner at Turtle Island Café. This, my friend, is the type of restaurant that deserves support and applause from locals and visitors alike. read more

We've been vacationing in this area for the past 5 years. We passed this restaurant on every trip to the ferry to VT. We finally decided to go in today-and I'm so glad we did. The inside is very nice. It has a more upscale feel but without the pretension. We asked about the chef (after the meal) and he's a local boy who went to CIA Albany, did a stint selling wine and then came back home. He bought the restaurant 12 years ago. His passion for good food comes through clearly in the food. We had the turkey chili. We were told it was a menu regular. They should really bring it back. You wouldn't believe turkey chili could make a nice presentation, but this chef does. It's served in a bowl with a visually beautiful and well dressed salad. The chili comes with 2 triangles of polenta, with nice char marks. Such a smart touch from the usual corn bread. The chili very good, made with turkey and black beans with melted cheese on top. To top it all off, the check was very reasonable. We were so pleasantly surprised and so glad we went. We will make this a regular stop in future trips! read more
