It was a busy Saturday night, but thankfully we were able to get a seat immediately at a hightop table right next to the kitchen. This was an exciting place to sit as we got to see all the food being made, esp the appetizers. We talked to the chef handling that station, which made choosing food that much more enjoyable. "Ooo, what's that," was a common phrase i heard myself asking. While the menu (one page) was somewhat limited, at least to my wife's pallet, she was able to piecemeal a dinner together (chicken, whipped potatoes and a veggie), to which, two of the three items were highly enjoyable (the broccollini was not cooked to her liking). I ordered three things and found them enjoyable: the meat and cheese platter for an app, and for dinner the caesar salad w/ scallops. My only qualm was the long wait between ordering and delivery of food. It was busy, so there was that expected delay. But when you're hungry, this was maybe not the place to go when expecting food to be brought out quickly. So not a knock on anyone,we were just hungry. You're paying for the experience, the ambiance, the friendly service (the waitress, bus boy, and chef were all pleasant and made the experience well worth the wait). They were Helpful in choosing items and dedicated to making our time there enjoyable. We'll done! My reason for 4 out of 5 stars is for one reason. While quality is high, the food tasted fresh and flavored well, this is not a place I'd go on a regular basis. It's definitely geared to a specific clientele, but again, the focus is on quality over quantity. For date night, this is a perfect place. I have been to this place a few times and have had really good (4 star out of 5) food here. Not tonight however (10/20/2018). The waitress did not know the specials, the food we did order took 1 hour 15 minutes for it to come out. There were three of us and my daughter just turned 21, we were expecting the "usual" good food. My wife couldn't decide between two dishes and the waitress suggested getting two split orders so she could have some of both. We said, "great". For some reason, after waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes later only one of the half orders came out for her. Waitress apologized a few times for the mess up... i get it stuff happens. My chicken scallopini was dry, only one small piece. The roasted white and sweet potatoes were the only redeeming thing on my plate. My daughter barely had half of her fusilli with sauce and one meatball. After waiting 1 hour 15 minutes for this to arrive we ate... then the bill came at $107.00. My wife looks at it and says... my dish consisted of four tortellini and the bill is 107 dollars! *** We weren't the only table that had been waiting a LONG time, there were others all around us. Something "happened" in the kitchen. The only reason we know that was that a manager came to talk to one of the tables only because that table complained. No manager came to ANY of the other tables. I think this is what really frosted my shorts the most. *** Ever since the original executive manager left the place what a year ago maybe two years ago? It has gone down hill ever since. I am seeing that in the reviews here on yelp. It is ashamed as they were such a great place at one time. On our way out NO ONE made any effort to ask how everything was or anything. The Tuscan Kitchen in Salem is 5 stars all the way! Honestly, this place is about as good as you'll get in this area, no doubt about it. This place is huge, has a fantastic building, wonderful food and a great wine cellar. Came here with a rather large party and we were seated within 10 minutes of arrival. The servers and hostesses really do a good job smiling and people pleasing. Sat down and had some delicious spicy calamari, some lobster ravioli and tiramisu for dessert. All of the dishes mentioned above were very very good and the server made sure the wine glasses were full and water was pumping through. Overall, the Tuscan Kitchen is an awesome restaurant for the patrons of Salem. Highly recommended. Booked a special function with 38 people, I rately write reviews, but don't want someone else to go through this experience. Dealt with Amanda and Colin, who were the most unprofessional people we've ever dealt with. No attention to detail, things promised didn't happen, so many excuses, no return phone calls or emails and plainly didn't care. The waitstaff was great, worked hard and was pleasant but all meat was cooked the same way - noone was asked because it was a function. Prices were high for the food quality and size and we were charged a gratuity for cloth napkins! Check your bill! The private room was nice, but will not return to this venue and cannot recommend you hold any function here. read more

I haven't gone to the Tuscan Kitchen in about 8 yrs. Went last night with a group of 10. I'll start with the service, there were many times throughout the meal where some of us sat without a drink for 15 minutes. As we watched ever table around us that came after us get bread, we weren't offered it we had to ask. As far as the meal went, my Chicken parm as well as a friends didn't have any flavor, we had to ask for salt and pepper. A buddy got ravioli and got 6. My wife asked for Angel hair and got spaghetti. Another buddy asked for Angel hair with Scallops and got spaghetti with no scallops. When they brought him scallops the gave him 4 over cooked, dry scallops. Another friend got pizza and said it was flavorless. You see where I'm going. The most overpriced and underwhelming experience ANY of us have had at a restaurant. I can't believe people pay these prices for such poor food. By the way Saturday night and it was 60% full. Also the bldg is falling apart and dirty. I'll chock this up to giving up on the space since the owner is now concerned with his brand spanking new Tuscan Village and TV opportunities. Just a suggestion go down the street to Trattoria Almafi or Ralfies Cafe Italiano pay less and get a much higher quality meal. read more

I love this place! The food is absolutely amazing. Service is friendly, atmosphere is very romantic but also casual enough for large groups, this place has it all! I've visited Tuscan Kitchen twice so far, both times while visiting my BF in Londonderry. He's been to Tuscan many times, but it only took once to win me over! So much, we came back again for Valentine's Day! The FOOD is absolutely amazing, probably the best meal you can get around here. They stat you off with thick focaccia bread, with olive oil, olive, and creamy tomato paste to dip the bread in. Then, on to the good stuff! 1. Tuna from raw bar - cucumber relish, with truffle, was amazing! It comes out looking like a crab cake, so it wasn't what I expected. But the taste was amazing and the tuna was rare and tar-tar style. So good. 2. FOIE GRAS appetizer blew us away. The duck fat melts in your mouth, with polenta, ham, and a berry sauce, what a combo! There are so many different flavors going on you want to lick your lips. 3. Carpaccio Di Manzo - rare thinly sliced sirloin, with arugula, roasted red peppers, and truffle. So delicious! For someone who eats very little red meat, I loved this. 4. CAPPELLACCI Salad - our FAVORITE! The goat cheese and walnuts are nice, but the best part is the huge, plump, sweet, pan seared Butternut Squash Cappellaccis! They are like a huge dumplings filled with sweet squash, WOW. We ordered this both times we visited! 5. Ravioli Quattro Fromaggi - name says it all. 4-cheese ravioli, very cheezy and the black truffles give it a wonderful strong flavor. I love this, but my BF wasn't as excited. 6. Tortelli Brasato - Huge rolled raviolis with a sweet red-meat sauce, stuffed with short rib. I thought the taste was wonderful, and my BF loved it even more than I did. 7. OSSO BUCCO - HOLY CRAP this was amazing. The dish is so large, we split it, and still had left overs! The bone-in veal shank was so tender it falls apart when you touch it. It melts in your mouth, its seriously rediculous! The risotto was amazing and so were the veggies. Everything is mixed together in a huge bowl-dish. Must try! Always too full to order dessert, but one day I will save room. The "MOMO" red wine is delicious. I think its cool you can buy the bottle at the Market next door, although I've never visited the Market. They have a unique martini menu, with several options from fruity to chocolately martinis. Not many beer options, but the wine and martinis are great. The wood-fired stove is nice, and the fireplace in the dining room is romantic. There are several large tables for large parties, and there's even a cool wine cellar in the basement that can hold private parties too. Tuscan Kitchen won me over! I love this place. We visited on a busy Tuesday night. As always, the service was top notch - but the food itself, not so much... We had pasta prepared with brandy in a cheese wheel prepared table side. The pasta was unevenly cooked and lukewarm. It was topped with a glut of cheese crumbles and truffle slices but was somehow flavorless...? We requested scallops which were wood grilled but unfortunately were over cooked and served cold. They also did not taste fresh by a long shot. Dear Joe and team, I have come here on more than one occasion and have loved your menu items every time. I especially love the plaza the restaurant sits in, the elegance and decor of the restaurant, and the general ambiance the place exudes. As far as the meal is concerned, it is frankly second to none. I've come here with my boyfriend on Valentine's day, as well as other occasions, have brought my parents in here visiting from California, and every time I am here I feel taken care of and enjoy every last bite of my dinner. Here are my top favorite menu items (along with my hungry boyfriend's): 1. Scallops - my personal favorite 2. T-bone steak (my boyfriend LOVES this!!!!) 3. Caprese salad 4. Bread basket (not kidding) 5. Creme brulee One time we came here for lunch and didn't like our food. We had a few salads and the flavors weren't there. We picked at it and told our waitress who was extremely apologetic, brought the salads back to our chef to taste (THAT's quality assurance!) and then took it off of our bill. Though this was an uncommon event with the taste, I loved the way the situation was handled - with grace and finesse. Needless to say, we will be back - again and again. We frequent the Tuscan Market quite often too, there is usually no need to make reservations there and the menu is more affordable, though no creme brulee there. I believe in the Tuscan brand. And I've read Joe's story and followed the birth and growth of the Tuscan brand and I am very, very excited with where Joe takes his vision. My poor friend who was at the end closest to the fireplace was melting! We asked to turn the fireplace down, and we were told that the only way to turn the fire down was to stand on one of the tables, which was occupied. It was difficult to enjoy the meal when we were all sweating! Other than that, if you order the Dry Aged Ribeye, prepare to feel like the Flintstones, with a slab of meat tipping over your car. Surprisingly fantastic food and atmosphere for Salem, NH. I've been here a few times now and have had consistently good experiences ... The last time I visited, I ordered the fennel-crusted cod dish. Though pricey, it totally blew me away. It was an amazing, lighter-side entree with beautifully cooked fish, roasted potatoes, sundried tomatoes, olives and a delicious sauce. In fact I liked this so much that I refused to even let my brother or father try some (#meansister). I have been impressed by other dishes - the pizzas are great, the veggie platter, the pastas, the salads. I also like that you can get half portions of some items to mix and match your meal. The real magic is in all the small details at Tuscan. From the time you enter the parking lot, you feel as though you have been transported away from Salem ... Not quite to Italy, but at least to a really old vacation spot. I don't use the valet, but I like that it's there. Visiting the bathroom takes you on a tour of the lovely wine cellar and function rooms. I love the open kitchen, and of course the basket of fresh starter focaccia with herbs and oil dip is above and beyond. We were here for Mother's Day and the staff did a wonderful job in managing the influx of customers. We had the lobster ravioli, braised short rib and baked haddock. The meals were a good size. My boyfriend's mom could not stop raving about the spinach risotto. Also, the haddock was cooked perfectly. The ravioli sauce had the right balance of savoriness and creaminess. My experience at the Tuscan Kitchen far exceeded my expectations. Immediately entering, the decor is very warm and inviting. I found the staff very friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. Ask for "Rich", he was wonderful! It did not stop there though, it kept getting better. We ordered a wide variety of appetizers. The crostini was excellent, the shrimp were enormous but the Polpettoni (meatball). I don't think I have ever got so excited over a Meatball. This is a must try! Our entrees came out next. My wife had the "Pappardelle al Anatra". My wife said it was just delicious. Of course not being a duck person I was talked into having a bite. For all you people who are not "Duck fans". You will be after having this. I had the fillet. This was one of the best cuts of meat I have had in a long time. I have had it four more times since my first visit to the Kitchen. Every time it's as good as it was the first. Overall this is a first class restaurant. In a area that is lacking finer restaurants this is a breath of fresh air. For a restaurant trying to have an upscale vibe, our experience was anything but. My wife and I sat at the bar the other night and had drinks and dinner. we like sitting at the bar since we tend to get more personal service however the staff at the Tuscan kitchen ignored us with no attention to our empty glasses or checking in on us at all. having a craving for a simple shrimp scampi meal I asked the staff if the chef would be willing to make me a dish even though it wasn't on the menu. he refused despite it being one of the simplest dishes he could make. disappointed the staff directed me to another shrimp dish saying it was very similar. it was nothing like scampi. it was flavored with pesto and a very spicy sauce that I did not care for. as we left the bar after a disappointing experience our servers didn't notice and provided no thank you or have a good night commentary. over priced and under served will not be going back to this restaurant. read more

I've been here four times since Easter, and this place is top notch, the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the service would get six starts if Yelp had it! My GF, and I went here for lunch after taking a big nationalized exam two weeks ago. It was the best $100 lunch we'd ever had. The Pumpkin Martinis (yes plural) and the food were awesome!!! The food, is just phenomenal. I had the braised short rib stuffed Tortello with a redwine reduction sauce with butter, and freshly shaved cheese. This was simply amazing, the savory tast of the short rib in the pasta with the richness of the red-wine butter sauce with a piece of fresh shaved cheese. This was heavenly! My GF got the Rosemary Roasted Pork and Pannini, which was so tasty with the crispiness of the bread, the pork, balsamic, and fresh Buratta Mozz, was amazing. We started with Martini's and a Salumi board for one, and Calamari, with the bodies, which were oh so tender, and delicious. I also had a meatball on the side, because I've been here four times now, and I refuse to walk out of the doors, without having a few bites of the best meatball I ever had. read more

Young woman behind the counter took over 20 minutes to slice 3 different meats which was annoying Store was not busy at that time. We took our order home and opened packages. ALL FAT. This is certainly a five-star-rating restaurant and one of the best Italian places north of Boston and in New Hampshire. Unfortunately, my experience as a dairy-free diner certainly affected my choice here and I had to go with a salad without cheese, but I added tuna. To start, the homemade bread is extremely delicious. The calamari was also excellent and a decent portion compared to other places in the area. I've ordered other food here with cheese and it's amazing, so I was disheartened that I needed to get a salad when there's delicious homemade pasta on the menu. The salad had some nice flavors, with an interesting black garlic vinaigrette and arugula, but I wasn't a fan of the fennel. I had high expectations for the sizable portion of the tuna, but I've had better tuna before. It was a light meal that's fair for dairy-free eaters, but the chocolate cake for dessert was amazing from just my few small bites of it. The atmosphere, even in a tent, is true Tuscan style. I have to say the quality of the Tuscan in Salem has gone down drastically since their move. Prices have skyrocketed. Service slow and horrible. We sat at the bar for four hours. Not because we wanted to. But because their service was long and brutal. Bartenders are young and inexperienced. The favorite Tuscantini tasted like lemon juice. Ordered the tomahawk medium rare. Waited over an hour for it and received well done. Didn't even dare order another entree because of the time it took to receive the first one. The branzino was full of bones and difficult to eat. Arugula covered the top of the fish and even the arugula had bones in it. Asked for bread because our entrees were taking so long. Our bread was delivered with our antrees. Why bother at that point?! Deserts were deliveredd 20 minutes apart from each other. Why not hold and deliver them together? We were told the delays were due to a party of 45 that was sitting in the dining room. Why was there a party that large in the dining room? They should have been booked as an event. Poor management and timing with that - 45 people sat at the height of dinner on a Saturday night. The Tuscan was a go-to for us until this visit. We used all of the points on our loyalty card and will be a long time before we go back. It's a shame. I miss the old Tuscan and the old crew. Cooking class review: I signed up for a cooking class at the Tuscan Market which held 26 people, 12 of which were part of my group. We signed up to make bucatini all'amatriciana which we were all excited to learn how to make. When we arrived we were informed we would not be making bucatini because the machine to make it was not available. If we were emailed or told this before we probably would have rescheduled since we were looking forward to this specific recipe. Instead, we made fettuccine pasta and he made the sauce himself. When we asked if we could have the recipe of his sauce to make at home he said he did not have time to run off copies for us. Then, when it was time to roll out the pasta dough there were only 2 machines for the whole group of 26 people so there was a lot of standing around. When it was time to eat the pasta we made with his sauce the last four people did not get enough food to eat when it was supposed to be our dinner. I contacted management both via phone and email and did not receive a callback. I was very disappointed with the price we paid and would not recommend this cooking class. read more
