Johnny, our waiter, was good but the steak was dry, tough and burnt; the fries and crispy Brussels sprouts were inedible and the salmon and mashed potatoes were so so. The shrimp and kimchi appetizer was good though the shrimp a bit over cooked. I was not only disappointed for the waste of time and money but was so hoping it to be great for the sake of Pueblo and the riverwalk. Trying to be a high end steak house by charging high end prices they are just a little short. Steaks were good albeit kind of expensive ($90 for a tomahawk ribeye, even if it is for 2). The sides are where they fall short. Brussel sprouts were shredded and barley cooked, creamed corn was "crunchy" and not seasoned very much. Service was awesome. Our waitress was friendly and had a smile on her face the entire evening. Other team members helped out to keep drinks full. They had a singer in house who was fair at best. People in our party got up to go outside during the middle of our meal just to get some air because it was so warm in the dining room. This is our favorite restaurant, and always had a great experience until tonite. I feel sorry for the staff working in the kitchen without a decent cooling system. The potato croquettes (w/cheese inside!!), Mac & Cheese, Asparagus, Salad (House), and Burrata were delicious...every bite. There is a free parking garage adjacent to the restaurant & its location (by the riverwalk) makes it perfect for an after-meal stroll. Came down here to try their breakfast which they recently started serving. I was greeted & seated promptly & very nice young lady. I ordered the steak & eggs which was very good the French Press Coffee was Excellent. The only advice I leave to their management team/ owners. My server wasn't that friendly. I don't understand Server's who aren't very hospitable or process that they are happy to serve tables; it's a factor on my tipping one way or another. My husband ordered a medium rare steak and I ordered the snapper... after about 45 minutes of waiting, the waiter brought out a well done ribeye and fish that tasted like it had been heated up in the microwave. I didn't say anything about my fish because I was more concerned with his steak issue but the manager comes over to the table and takes the first steak back and agrees that it looks well done.. about 5 minutes later, the manager comes back over and drops off a new steak and says "I'm gonna stand here as you cut it open". Shockingly enough, my husband cuts into the steak to find another medium well/well done steak. The manager saw the steak and said "that's how it cooks with the temp"... I was honestly shocked he said that because it looked exactly like the first one.. We finally went for the first time last night. We have heard good things and I have to say it lived up to the hype! I'm so glad we have such a nice restaurant in Pueblo. Our server was very attentive and helpful, answering questions to help us order. Others served us, too, refilling water and bringing bread. A manager also stopped by to check on us. I ordered the special, a Piedmont steak with Yukon potatoes. It was very good. My husband enjoyed Doc's filet with three 3-oz filets with three different sauces. I was a bit disappointed with the Caesar salad. It tasted fine but Macaroni Grill's is the best. The bread is amazing and served warm. More than just a Steak House, Twenty-One Steak has variety and exceptional quality! Beginning with the wine sommelier and manager, Toni, your experience will be enhanced. Toni is bubbly, enthusiastic, super knowledgeable about wine pairing, adult beverages and the queen of her tribe. The staff love and respect her and it shows. All reasons to come back, even if the food was just good, but it is Superior. This place is always working on tweaking the menu to ensure you have a special meal. There is a Seasonal Menu, plus Weekly Specials that are worth dropping in just to try. (Note, these weekly items are so good, they can sell out quickly) An example, we had the most amazingly tender, flavorful Buffalo steak a few weeks ago. The main menu contains a wide variety of not only steak, but lamb chops, seafood, chicken, gluten free or vegan options, fantastic appetizers, and desserts If you need to bring children, no problem, the list of Kiddo options is all under $9. Or consider a few $10 sides to share. Why not order three at $25. So, let's talk steak, they offer superior quality 1855 Black Angus meats that are not sold locally. When we go, we gravitate to the two-person 40-ounce Tomahawk steak or a wonderfully marbled Ribeye, but don't skip a flight of Filet Mignon. The entrees are served with one complement which really kicks up the flavor of their dishes. There are optional enhancements, like a lobster tail or Oscar style topping. Be sure to check out the Sides, especially the wild mushroom risotto, potato croquette, creamed corn, roasted brussels or truffle fries. In town for a coupla days, had dinner at 21 Steak on a Thursday night. Decor and atmosphere were top notch. Waiter seemed on the inexperienced side, but did a fine job. Inexperience showed as he described specials and the dishes we ordered--nothing bad, he just needs to refine/edit his patter. Pan fried chicken over gnocci was delicious. Less hungry person had clam chowder (still thinking about it--very flavorful with pleasant textures, a bit of spice, and a refreshing brightness) and a lovely wedge salad. We came to Pueblo to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We scoured the Internet for the best restaurant and came up with 21 Steak. It did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like royalty celebrating their most important wedding anniversary. It was important for us, as we have been married 48 years. The staff was super friendly from the moment we entered, during the meal, and even as we were leaving. We each had a tenderloin steak with different sides. My wife had mushrooms on the side and I had pan fried potatoes. I loved the potatoes and the mushrooms were decent. The steaks were a highlight. There is a nice wine list, and we found Brandy Alexander on the drink list, a true rarity in CO! We were given a complimentary dessert. Aside from the upscale atmosphere and fine food inside, the restaurant is also located along the Riverwalk, which is very pleasant and a must see when visiting Pueblo. read more

The Mysterious Ryan M. is a young man of innumerable gifts, many of them dubious (e.g., the uncanny ability to say "pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" five times in a single breath). Perhaps my most *useful* gift is the power of precognition. Much like Christopher Walken's character in "The Dead Zone," I can touch an object and "see" a future event. Alas, my powers are comparatively mundane ("You'll be at Starbucks...you'll order a tall mocha latte...but the barista will add 2%, not whole milk! But it's not too late...specify whole milk...Do it while you can!"), but I daren't question pseudoscience. How does all this parapsycholocial mumbo jumbo tie into my review of Twenty One Steak in Pueblo, you ask? Simple: I touched the Yelp app on my iPhone and intuited that dinner at Twenty One Steak would be a stellar experience. I "knew" this despite the paucity of online reviews. More than a week after the event, my father and I continue to rave about this hidden gem of a steakhouse. The evening started off promising with a crisp baby iceberg wedge salad. The culinary cognoscenti (my alliterative euphemism for food snobs) turn their collective noses up at the humble wedge, but I respect a restaurant with the gastronomic fortitude to prove the naysayer foodies wrong. At Twenty One Steak, the wedge is a celebration of contrasts and high-quality components: shatteringly crisp iceberg, creamy house-made blue cheese dressing, maple-coated bacon, and acid from a handful of bright, locally sourced heirloom cherry tomatoes. A piping hot tomato bisque was equally impressive. The kitchen smokes the tomatoes before pureeing them, imparting a flavor I mistook initially for bacon. Vegetarians, take note: a bowl of this elixir will satisfy any lingering carnivorous cravings. The bisque includes a small grilled cheese sandwich with lots of sharp, gooey Wisconsin Cheddar. As I dipped my sandwich into the bowl, I recalled the lunches of Campbell's tomato soup and toasted American cheese sandwiches from my childhood. It was an equally satisfying experience, albeit one given a fine dining facelift. Twenty One Steak sources its beef from 1855 Black Angus, a reputable supplier out of Nebraska. The steaks are wet-aged in house and pan seared, a simple but effective technique that most prime steakhouses eschew in favor of grilling or broiling. My father's seven-ounce tenderloin was an example of the culinary alchemy that occurs when an aged, superior cut of beef meets a searingly hot cast-iron pan: crusty on the outside and cooked to a cool medium-rare in the center. Alas, my heftier thirteen-ounce New York strip fared poorly, at least on the kitchen's first attempt. I had requested it rare, yet it arrived well done. Had my precognitive powers failed me? Was I wrong about this restaurant? The answer is a resounding no; my astute server noticed my nonverbal cues of outrage, apologized profusely for the blunder, and instructed the kitchen to fire a replacement cooked to my specification. As I waited, I pacified myself on a meaty, butter-braised Maine lobster tail (a steal at $21) and watched as my father devoured his tenderloin. Any misgivings I had faded into the ether the moment I bit into my replacement steak. It was tender, cooked perfectly, and basted liberally with herbaceous butter from the pan. Unlike many steakhouses in the "$$$$" price range, Twenty One remembered to render the fat along the edge of the strip, turning what was once an unpalatable white glob into a crunchy, caramelized mouthful of umami delights. The desserts -- all made in house by talented pastry chef Catherine McGrath -- include an upscale take on classic s'mores with a chambord ganache, an intriguing avocado chocolate mousse, and a playful "root beef float" crème brûlèe. I've been burned by cutesy, pretentious desserts in the past, but I couldn't resist the allure of a root beer-flavored crème brûlèe. It tasted exactly as I had expected with subtle hints of vanilla, anise, and sarsaparilla root. The flavor was sweet but not cloyingly so. Towards the end of the meal, owner Josh Cafasso apologized for the kitchen mishap from earlier and removed the steak from my bill. It was a generous gesture, but I shouldn't have been surprised; Mr. Cafasso's impressive resume includes stints at numerous acclaimed restaurants, including The Penrose Room at The Broadmoor, so he understands the importance of customer satisfaction. My father and I had the restaurant practically to ourselves all evening, so I hope that Twenty One Steak can attract more fanfare. Perhaps a steakhouse in this price range is too expensive for the blue collar community of Pueblo. Unless business improves, I foresee this excellent eatery shuttering its doors in the near future, so speaketh the Mysterious Ryan M. We had high hopes that this was a nice place in Pueblo. It was great! We ordered cocktails and an appetizer. We didn't understand why it took so long for our waiter to come to take our order. After the order was taken we waited 45 minutes for our food to come out. My husband was getting a little impatient towards the food finally coming out and that's when our waiter informed us that they had two twelve tops and they were getting the food out with them first. Our food would be out soon. Our issue was that we should have been informed as soon as we sat down that there was two twelve tops - whether we had a reservation or not. We would have understood the situation. We are still a paying customer and still expect the same service. Give us a free drink or dessert or discount on our bill or something for having to wait that long. We were not the only ones having to wait for our food. A forced apology is not enough. And having the hostess chase us outside to tell us we were unreasonable for being upset because we didn't even have a reservation. Wrong. We are still a paying customer! The quiet town, the relaxing ambiance of the historic riverwalk, the perched patio near the center of activity, etc. It all comes together for a great evening, if...they properly staff their dinner shift. Choose this place for the outdoor seating. We were greeted by friendly staff. There was a wait for the patio, but we enjoyed the nice weather and scenery while we browsed the menu. We ordered the tomato soup and wedge salad to start. Both were delish, but we soon realized our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We ordered the flights of filet and tomahawk ribeye...32 oz OH MY!! Bother were prepared perfectly. My filets cut like butter and the seasoning was perfect. That tomahawk was a tasty challenge for the 2 that were sharing. All the sides were good except for the cauliflower which was dry. My favorites were the potato croquet and the mushroom risotto.
