This is our favorite place to eat out in Plattsburgh. The food is generally delicious and imaginative. They have good fresh seafood and lots of vegetable options in addition to some meats. It's not a long menu, but it's an interesting one, and they often put their own twist on a recipe. Recently I had some sea scallops that were perfectly cooked but significantly too salty, and the waiter wasn't keen on hearing that, but I bet the chef wants to know when that happens. Next time I want to save room for desserts! There are outdoor tables. We dined indoors--it was packed--and it was pretty noisy from a group at the bar that continued their robust conversation at the next table. Just worth bearing in mind. They do take reservations. The Twisted Carrot seemed a little on the pricey side until we got our food. It was fresh and delicious. The waitress was so nice. She remembered that I told her a woman at the Best Western we were staying at recommended us and called them when I left my charge card. I had a veggie burger - not at all usual - chick pea and zucchini, pickled red onion, tomato, with a topping of whipped feta that was out of this world, on a house bun. Our family was exploring the area and wanted a local stop for dinner -- Twisted Carrot was all that and more. My husband & son loved the local breads with compound butter -- and a side pickled onion garnish. For main meals -- my scallops were great -- but the risotto underneath was the true star. My son devoured the rib eye and my husband had pan seared salmon which was 'excellent!' For dessert, the pana cotta was very good (thick!) though to see the look on the teenagers face eating the maple olive oil cake -- well that said we'll surely be back! Amazing food amazing service. A laid back casual vibe but with sophistication. A small but well thought through menu that seems to have something for everyone. It remained busy on a Saturday afternoon but never turned loud because of this. People talked at a normal decibel and the service staff was there to assist but not in an intrusive way. I've been here twice now and it is quickly turning into one of my favorite eateries in Plattsburgh. The food is amazing. It's not your ordinary menu, each item is hand crafted and each blend of flavors has been thought out and perfected. The sauces and dressings that go with each item has been perfectly matched with what is on the plate. Bravo to the chef! We stopped here for dinner recently on a trip to Plattsburgh and everything about the meal was perfect - the ambiance, the service, the food. We left saying we wish we had a restaurant like this in our town. We started with the acorn squash appetizer which was delicious and had the perfect amount of flavorful char on the outside - will have to try to recreate that at home. We both chose entrees for our main course with deliciously salty fries. I loved that there were so many vegetarian options, and the ingredients tasted fresh and were seasonally appropriate. You feel welcome as soon as you enter this gem of a restaurant. A sign of any good place is the retention of staff, and the Carrot has the some of the same folks as our first visit years ago. The food and presentation are always consistent. The music is always interesting and at the right volume, the cleanliness of the bathroom shows the care put forth. Came here during a little weekend getaway to Plattsburgh. Everything was amazing! The potato ale soup was so different and like nothing I've had before. I highly suggest it! The spritzer was very homey and warmed me up on a cold day. I got the scallop entree which was probably the best scallop entree I've had. The risotto was perfect and the scallops were buttery smooth. Came to Twisted Carrot with my boyfriend and the vibe was so cute! Small restaurant so there was a little wait but not too bad. The servers were all very nice and the bartender was charismatic and fun. We started off with drinks, I got the margarita and he got a jack and coke (they didn't have jack though so some other whisky). The drinks were delicious and not overpriced. We got the eggrolls to start and they were really good with a unique delicious sauce. For dinner we shared the chicken sandwich and the pork chop (we subbed the carb for mashed potatoes), the chicken sandwich was good but nothing super special, could've had more flavor. The pork chop with mashed potatoes was actually life changing though. There was some kind of sauce on there I will think about probably forever and ever. It was so amazing. Boyfriend cleaned every plate, of course. We also had drinks after dinner, I can't remember the name of either of them but they were under the sweet treat category. The drink I had consisted of peanut butter whiskey, vanilla vodka, and I think some kind of orange liqueur. It was really wonderful and the perfect way to end a meal. My boyfriends drink was more of an experience/desert and came with a shot, ice cream, and a cookie, which i think you're supposed to mix all together or just do what you want with it. We stopped in Plattsburgh for lunch on our way further south and chose The Twisted Carrot based on local reviews and the eclectic menu. We were welcomed warmly and quickly. Ambiance was warm and cozy, with a bar and several tables throughout, and lovely local artwork donning the walls for sale. The server was friendly, fun, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu options. We started with the "Little Devils", deviled eggs of the day. These were flavored with bacon, maple and Parmesan and we enjoyed every bite. Hubby, a meat lover, chose the Have A Cow (burger) with homemade fries, while I ordered the Fried Eggplant. Both were delicious! We even met the owner who served our entrees. We could tell the employees and owner really care about the food, service and their customers! We will be back! read more

I normally don't write reviews, but I would go here every day if I lived around here. Came here after a long day on the slopes at Whiteface. The restaurant does not take reservations but we were happy to wait for a table, and were seated as soon as possible. We started with cocktails and got the butternut squash risotto and the scallops for our mains with a side of brussel sprouts. The risotto was creamy, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. The mushrooms and pecans that were in the dish added the perfect amount of texture. The scallops... a MUST! Heavenly and buttery soft, did not need a knife to cut it, and did not have single speck of sand to be found. It had great sauce to pair with it along with yummy asparagus (as someone who does not like vegetables that is hard to do) We got carrot cake for dessert, and it was amazing as well. My husband and I are from Vermont and passed through Plattsburgh on a day-long motorcycle trip around Lake Champlain. We parked our bikes and clomped around downtown, schlepping helmets and jackets, looking for a place to eat. We tried one place that seemed to have plenty of waitstaff and open tables but were told that it would be a 45-minute wait because "the kitchen is backed-up." (What?!?!) We stopped on the sidewalk outside the Twisted Carrot to check out the menu and a patron popped his head out of the restaurant and said "eat here; it's the best spot in Plattsburgh!" That was endorsement enough for us, so in we went. First of all, the staff who greeted and served us were friendly, efficient, and attentive. But the food! WOW! I had the Southern Comfort sandwich, which was a perfectly fried chicken breast with brussels sprout slaw and this sauce that I can't describe but was clearly invented in heaven. Hubby had the Is Your Name Reuben? sandwich. He said it was one of the best reubens he's ever had (and no matter where we go, if there's a reuben on the menu, he orders it). The Twisted Carrot has a lovely looking cocktail menu, but since we were on motorcycles, we went with a couple of virgin mojitos. They were refreshing and a more-than-adequate replacement for their rummy cousins (I had 2). As we were leaving, our waitress called out, "ride safe and have fun!" The perfect end to a perfect lunch!
