Red curry is the best! If you like any spice at all (I.e. Sriracha or Tabasco) feel free to go with a full medium spicy. It's perfect.

The ambiance is nice and quiet, with modest decorations throughout. It's small, so I think in rush hour it might het pretty loud, but we visited around 8pm and it was nice and intimate. The service is (in my opinion) considerately bettwr than most asian restaurants I've been to. The food is delicious! I had the red curry, my boyfriend had the yellow curry, and my brother had the pineapple fried rice. They wwre attentive to my brother's shrimp allergy, and his only complaint was that it wasn't spicy (our server didn't ask how spicy anyone wanted their dishes); however, they did bring him spicy sauce on the side. Our only other complaint is the prices. The price is too high for the portion sizes, although the portions are very filling. However, this is the best Thai I've had thus far in the UNC area. read more

Twisted Noodles has a wide selection of great food. I've been there 4 or 5 times and have never been dissatisfied with the food quality. It also always comes out fast. The Tiger Cry Steak and Yellow Curry Twisted Noodles are my favorite. The prices are also very reasonable. Usually the service is ok but sometimes it can be slow and apparently they don't feel the need to clean off tables unless they absolutely have to. We sat next to a dirty table for our entire meal. The place isn't dirty overall but if tables aren't cleaned off in a timely manner, it can give off a dirty vibe. We have gone to Twisted Noodles probably 6 times over the last 5 month since discovering this gem. The food is consistently delicious. Almost all of their dishes can be made vegetarian. They use very fresh herbs and veggies, and all of their sauces taste homemade, fresh and balanced. Tofu is very nicely prepared and flavorful. I have tried a different dish each time, and would get them all again. Though, I admit my least favorite so far has been the crispy drunken noodle, which is a bit heavy from the fried rice noodles. Food arrives quick and service is friendly and knowledgeable. The lunch prices are very reasonable, and dinner prices are a little more expensive. read more

This used to be our favorite Thai restaurant in Chapel Hill. I don't remember going anywhere else for our Thai fixes. I used to love their curries and drunken noodles. But, our last visit was very disappointing. They are under new management and the menu is very different. Some of the popular dishes are gone and replaced with strange items that are not really Thai. Coming to the food, there was more noodles than any vegetables/ tofu and there was absolutely no sauce to eat with the rice. We would probably not return if this is their new normal.. read more

Absolutely the best place around here to get Thai. I am comparing that to other places i've lived like DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia... all known for good ethnic food. If you like curry dishes, you will love this place. Of course the dishes are Americanized a bit, but that doesn't take away from it at all. This place is squarely "meh." If you're on your way to Trader Joe's and you want an Asian style quick lunch, go for it. There's nothing wrong with the food; it's just that you can tell the vegetables are the frozen mixed bag sort, and the lettuce is slightly limp. I get carry out from here all the time. They have the best penang curry in the area. The green curry tofu is also a favorite.

So the service was great but the food was not so great. The pad thai taste like straight up spaghetti! When we ask could we either do something different she said NO and I still had to pay 50% for the dish that I took one little bite and gave back!! Like a few other people on here have said, they sneak fish sauce and oyster sauce into their entrees when you tell them you're vegan. My boyfriend and I are vegan, and had eaten here five times before they were forthcoming about the fish sauce that they put in their curry. All five times, we had requested they leave fish sauce and oyster sauce out of everything we ordered, and our server said he would. He also initially said that their curry contained neither. It wasn't until the sixth time we went when my boyfriend said he was allergic to seafood that our same server said that there is fish sauce in their curry. I regret giving them my money because they were intentionally dishonest. If you're not vegan and not concerned about ingredients, I'd probably eat here because the food is good, but consider their dishonesty before deciding to give them your business. read more

I've been to this location twice now and both times, the service has been pretty horrible. The first time, we were finally sat after waiting awhile at 'Wait to be Seated' sign. When we were sat, we waited about 7-10 min before a waiter even came to take our drink order. It was a little busy and it was right after it first opened, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The food was still good, but was almost over looked because such bad service. The second time, we walked in and there was literally one person already seated and eating. We stood and waited for about 10 min and NO ONE came to greet us or seat us. There was not a host or waiter or any one working there to be found, so we just left and went somewhere else. The last reviewer could not have been more correct. The food is fantastic. We went there on 2 occasions and both times, the food was just excellent. The first time, we got pad thai (which was fantastic) and forest fire curry (which was also fantastic) and the second time we got sauteed ginger with pork (very good) and hainum chicken rice (alright). All in all, the food was great. On to the service... The first time we were there, we were ignored for over 10 minutes while waiting for someone to take our drink order... and the restaurant wasn't even busy. The girl refilling drinks was actually avoiding eye contact with our table while we were deciding if we should just walk out. After we finally got service, everything was alright. The second time, my boyfriend decided to opt for take-out. He placed the order 20-25 minutes before arriving and waited 15-20 minutes once he got there. The restaurant was nearly empty when he got arrived. In the end, our order was messed up (they forgot the mango sticky rice). What sucks is that the food is really good. I mean really, really good. I'll probably give them another in-restaurant attempt but I would be embarrassed to recommend this restaurant to someone else with the service being this god-awful. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled after the experience I had tonight with my girlfriends. We all went because my friend suggested it was a good place for Thai food - and it is! One ordere massaman curry, I got the red curry, and another got the garlic pad Thai with tofu. All of the food is delicious and generously portioned. The problem is the staff. Our food took a little bit longer, but our waitress apologized and we were in no rush. We understood that sometimes they're swamped. It was a decently busy evening. When we got our order we didn't see our waitress for another hour at least and then when we got the bill we requested it to be split. It was split an even three ways despite the fact that our meals cost different amounts. Then, my girlfriend accidentally got charged twice on her card and I didn't get charged at all. So we walked up to the register to ask them to fix that and the head waiter said, "so what do you want me to do?" We were a little flabbergasted that he seemed so comfortable not dealing with his own mistake. He did a quick little void when we told him she should only be charged once, and then I was appropriately charged as well. Disappointing service. As previous reviews have mentioned, they seemed very preoccupied with takeout orders; and that is what I will do in the future. Good food, abysmal service. I'll call in my order next time. read more

I enjoy it here, it's obviously not the best thai place in the area but it's definitely the most reasonable and probably the best lunch option. Our server was pretty poor to be honest; he only came by whenever he had to, our water was often empty, and he even avoided eye contact when he came by. The food itself is good, but is great if you consider the price; I had the yellow curry with chicken, which came out to about $10, and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. The food is your pretty average run of the mill Thai food. I got the summer thai rolls and they were excellent. We got two dishes, the drunken noodles and the thai chili & basil. The food was good but nothing that would blow me away compared to the many other thai restaurants I"ve been to. Prices were lower than some places I've been to so that's a plus. We've been here twice now, and I think it's pretty mediocre. The crispy drunken noodles are really not great. The noodles are fried,but they're rather greasy and honestly seem more like something that would be a garnish; as the main part of the dish, it's too oily and makes you feel kind of bad. The dish in general also wasn't very flavorful. For a dish that was more expensive than the others, it was kind of bad. The Thai fried was just ok, nothing special; and honestly, for fried rice that just has chicken, onions, and frozen vegetables in it, it's kinda not worth the price. The pineapple fried rice is pretty solid with nice flavor, but again, it's kind of pricey. Their pad Thai isn't that great, kind of too sweet and not enough spice. Their roasted pork soup also isn't that good; the soup is kind of too salty, and the wontons are also rather subpar. In general, the food here is not worth it's price. read more

Love this restaurant, love even more that's it's located in a strip mall albeight a strip mall in chapel hill which really isn't the same as a strip mall in , oh say, Durham. No dollah store for one thing. Or if there is I've blinded myself to it. Possible, probable. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, there isn't a crappy store in EastGate. But enough of that! Back to Twisted Noodle and off of the city I can't afford to live in. sigh... The pad thai is to die for, chicken, shrimp, tofu whatever meat you wanna chuck in there. Drunken noodles are spectacular as are the fish balls,, stop gigging like an 8 th grade boy. The dumplings are superb as well. Really , i have yet to taste anything on the menu that isn't super fine! The staff is great, young and attentive and the service is fine. Hate it when its cold cause the wind sorta blows through and freezes the hairs on your legs but that's okay too! Take along a coat or sit against the wall. We usually have a large group and they happily accomodate us with no warning so that's a huge plus. Did I mention the prices? Terrific! I've eaten here three times and my overall experience has been mediocre at best. The first visit was horrible, with the service slow and the waiter forgetting our order several times. The dish I got was also not very good. Thinking it was a fluke and the restaurant was new, we went back a second time. The service was okay, not great, same with the food. The third time, the food was mediocre and the service was bad and slow (and it wasn't even busy in the restaurant). I won't be returning. Save yourself the trouble: If you want great food and good service and don't mind driving a little longer, go to Thai Cafe in Durham. About a year ago I would have given this place 4 or maybe 3.5 stars... Before, they were pretty good. Most of their menu was OK but their curry was delicious. Not to thick, but substantial and bursting with flavor. Not. Anymore. I've tried it now twice since i was first disappointed. Its watery, with no depth of flavor. I ordered it spicy and its not spicy at all. But even without the spice, theirs just not richness to the curry, no depth of flavor. It's hard finding a good thai place around Chapel Hill, and I thought I had found one, but it didn't last. Try another place, their food isn't worth the increased prices. read more
