Then we ordered the shrimp and grits and the fish and chips and these I'm afraid to say were very very bad, the fish and chips. The fish was watery and tasteless. Food was amazing, the shrimp nice and tender with a crispy coating. A great po'boy. Okra was nice and crispy with a wonderful taste. Price was very reasonable. Service was amazing our server was perfect and food came out in great time. Ambience was ok, a small little hole in the wall but food outweighs any problems you could have with the decor. Fresh as fresh can be; everything is made from scratch - and, while there are plenty of delectable options in the Islamorada area, the TWISTED SHRIMP was the place we relished the most! The Fried lobster bites are so good that we returned 3s during our 5-day visit to the Upper/Mid Keys. Each and every appetizer and entree was absolutely DIVINE and then some. The shrimp was golden with light crispy batter. The fries were lightly seasoned. It was a taste treat.My husband had the grilled shrimp wrap. He enjoyed it but said the flavor of the shrimp was overpowered by the mayonnaise from the coleslaw in the wrap. That is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. The server was pleasant and helpful. He was really hustling due to quite a few people arriving at the same time. Parking in front was limited to about 5 spaces but two spots opened just in time for us. This is the best shrimp shack in Islamorada, hands down. We came twice. The star of the show was clearly the shrimp. It only has one way of doing it, but they are delicious, twisted or not. Biggest gripe is the pricing. They advertised a "bucket" of shrimp. But all I got was a decent sized basket. You gotta call people out on that. When you say bucket, I expect something like a bucket that Colonel Sanders offers at KFC. Other than that, I have no complaints as the food is delicious. My son had fish tacos, which he also enjoyed. We've passed this place hundreds of times and have wanted to stop in. Stoped for lunch today. This is a quaint local spot. Don't let the casual atmosphere fool you. There is outdoor seating as well as 5 tables inside. My wife and I shared an order of the smoked fish dip which comes with freshly fried tortilla chips which were warm, light and not greasy. The reviews for Twisted Shrimp were good so while staying in Islamorada we decided to come for a late lunch. The place isn't huge but there is some seating indoors as well as outdoors. My son and I shared the New England clam chowder and it was great. They use curry powder so instead of traditional white soup, it was yellow. I only wish there was more clam in it. I'd say I ate more potato than clam. My sons had the chicken tacos and the fish and chip. I didn't try either but the boys reported it good. The fish and chips are strange. They're actually thick fish nuggets/squares as opposed to a plank of fish. To me the breading looked dry- I love a light beer batter on my fish- this looked like chicken wings. I had the blackened shrimp and grits. The server told me it was popular. But I was not overly impressed. The shrimp were gr ea on their own. I did not like the grits. It looks like they also put curry into the grits bc it was yellow. There was alot of green/red pepper and it was a bit much for me. The presentation of the grits once you dig in isn't very pretty either. Looks like vomit. Left most of it behind. I loved the soup and the blackened shrimp. I was expecting the food to be good based on the reviews I had seen and I was not disappointed. I was very pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and service too. (wasn't going to bother asking for lemons for the water again) We waiting along with the other 20 ppl, with only drinks in front of us. 45 mins after arriving our Conch fritter appetizers came out. Not bad. We could hear the large party complain about the crib burger not tasting like real crab and the drinks being watered down. Yikes. Only one guy, who was very nice, waiting the tables. Felt bad for him. Entrees were meh, not worth the price. When getting the entrées we did ask for lemons, but never got them. Sadly I would not recommend. While researching places to eat in the Keys, having shrimp for at least one meal was a must. When I stumbled across the shrimp pictures that others have posted and saw just how light the breading was so it didn't mask the shrimp flavor, I knew I'd be stopping here. We ordered the cracked conch appetizer as well so I could check conch off the list of seafood to try. My wife got the cheeseburger and fries while I got a pound of shrimp with cheesy grits. The breading on the conch made it hard to tell what the meat itself tasted like. The texture was rubbery/chewy as I assumed it would be so no knock on that. Glad I tried it once, but not something I need to get again. I forgot to take a picture of her cheeseburger and fries but she thoroughly enjoyed the burger. If you've ever had an onion burger, like mixing Lipton onion soup mix into the meat when the patty is being formed, that's how she described it. The shrimp was excellent. As the pictures I saw suggested, the breading is so light that it's almost a vague texture and adds nothing to the flavor, allowing the flavor of the shrimp to shine all on it's own. The cheesy grits, however, were disappointing. Instead of mixing cheese into the grits or even putting real shredded cheese on top, they put nacho cheese on top. The picture I posted may show a fair amount of nacho cheese, but when stirred into the grits it only gave them a hint of cheese flavor instead of a full cheese flavor I was expecting. read more
