I went here today for lunch and it was pretty good. Not great and not horrible, but okay. I like the chips they bring out. They are nice, thin and crispy, but I as not a fan of the salsa. It was cold and pretty watery. It did not have any texture hardly and the flavor was just okay. I did not like that it was ice cold. For my meal, I ordered the Lunch Special #4: Guacamole Salad, Crispy Beef Taco, Two Cheese Enchiladas $7.75 I thought for sure it would come with rice and beans, but it did not state that and none were served with the meal. I was still a little hungry after finishing the plate. I may return in the future and try one of the other items. The food reminds me of Los Tios in Houston. The wait staff is friendly and the food is very reasonably priced. I had the queso which is good but nothing super special. Either way, it will satisfy your hankering for cheesy goodness and comes with a bowl of pickled jalepeños. I had the Mexican plate which came out piping hot and stayed hot until I finished the last bite. The chicken fajitas were also delicious. Just an average Mexican restaurant. The chips were really bland compared to other places I've been to and there was only one sauce and no green sauce that I love. I got a taco and burrito, the taco was just meh. The burrito was actually really good. The service is friendly and fast, got my food in ten minutes during lunch time. The decor is typical and they have a spacious outdoor patio but it's right by the highway so even on a nice day no one was out there. The pricing was average, most items 9-15 range. Nothing special about their Lunch Special. A two enchilada special was just $.50 cheaper than the regular plate. Two Good cheese enchiladas with rice and beans for $7.50. The enchiladas are pretty good here. They bake 'em on a plate in the oven. And they come out hot! The waiter wasn't kidding when he cautioned "hot plate". This place is horrible! Went with my brother and the place was empty other than a group and us. We waited for a while until my brother flagged someone down to take our order. He had to do the same thing for drink refills. So technically no one came on their own to check on us or service us. I ordered the shrimp brochette and was very disappointed on how small they were and overcooked. I then realized that they were deep fried instead of grilled. Who does that?! It was too hard too eat. Given that this is my all-time, "want this for my last meal if ever I'm on death row", favorite restaurant, I felt it appropriate for my first review. Do what you know, right? So, here goes it! It's almost shameful (in a really awesome way) to admit that I have eaten at this establishment AT LEAST twice a month for the last 17 or so years. Given, there have been times when life got really busy and my family and I missed our "usual" dinners, however, I always come back! I have my usual waiter, and have developed a rapport with the owner and his family. I am that person that get's a little irritated if I see MY waiter at another table...because...let's be honest..he's mine! He gets me! He knows things! As soon as I walk in the door, I know that I am home..in my little Mexican food safe haven. (Even though I'm Caucasian.) HEY NOW, please don't stop reading and discount my culinary insight due to my ethnicity. This is no run-of-the mill, "Tex Mex" garbage that us Anglos usually drool over. This is the real deal, muchacho. I have a standard routine that NEVER fails me, and I will gladly let you in on my step-by-step journey to pure, unadulterated food savagery. My Two Amigos journey is as follows: Numero Uno: On occasion an adult beverage to begin my meal. Happy hour margaritas (on the rocks is my pref) are pretty potent, and very affordable. Beer is always cold. I have tried a michelada on occasion, and it was pretty tasty. #2. Complementary chips and salsa = feast! The chips are always very crunchy, never greasy, and have a "clean" taste to them that indicates someone in the kitchen is aware that a fishy taste will cling to anything that touches the same oil the fish has bathed in. Two varieties of salsa are served: Rojo y verde. (Red and green.)I tend to gravitate towards their red salsa, usually served room temperature and is always very flavorful. Prominent flavoring of cilantro and fresh ingredients. SIDE VENTING: Two things I hate the most about *other* Mexican food places is when they serve extreme temperature salsa (either scolding hot, or salsa that gives you a brain freeze!) and Two Amigos does theirs riiiight. Also, it really burns me up when a salsa lacks in salt! YES, I said it. Salt. I can hear the upheaval now about how salt is bad for you, blah blah blah. Salt your salsa, amigos. It's going to make a world of difference, I swuuuur. And it's not going to kill you. If you're worried, how about you skip the salt on your 'rita? Problemo solved. Also, I would like to note that in times of severe savagery, I have ordered the queso. TO SLPLIT WITH OTHERS! (Gosh, I sound like I am defending myself..?) It is not the best queso I have ever had in my entire life, but it definitely satisfying for that queso fix that hits me on occasion. They bring the queso out in a large bowl with a hearty heap of pickled jalapeños, for those that like thangs a little spicy! THIRD: I order the "Enchiladas Al Carbon" with beef. A hearty helping of beef fajita meat rolled into two large flour tortillas, covered in a brown sauce, smothered in cheesy goodness. Basically like enchiladas, but with the cool kid beef coming in and mixing things up. I am not a huge bean person, so I ask for just rice. Other's I have dined with have said that their charro beans are delicious, so if you're into beans, give it a shot. I swear to you, this would be my last meal. I usually order Enchiladas Al Carbon if I find myself in another Mexican food joint, so I have a lot of experience in the ways of enchiladas. I haven't found any other places that stack up to this particular dish. It's my "Go-To" dish, and I have never been disappointed. In addition, I would like to add to my Enchiladas Al Carbon credibility by stating that many people close to me, my main squeeze in particular, joke about the fact that I ALWAYS order it. So, there's that! The atmosphere is authentic and festive. The music is lively. There was a time when they had a mariachi band, but those days are long gone. I sometimes miss them, but they play authentic music that keeps the feel of the place going. They have a nice bar, but I prefer to sit in the main dining area. Fun little fact that I like to tell everyone: Back in the day, about the time the mariachi bands were making their sweet music, the oil paintings on the wall were very X-rated! The women were topless, in a professional, "artsy" way, and I think that caused some commotion. Now the women in the paintings have shirts on, making Two Amigos a true family place. So, in closing, I would like to leave you with this: The food is always hot. Always fresh. And always satisfying. (Thus my wild and crazy 5 star rating!) Go give it a try...just don't make it all "hipster" and stuff. Follow my journey and see where it takes you, my friends. It always leads me to a state of extreme satisfaction! read more

My wife works down the block and said she really loved this place, so obviously I had to try it to find out just how good it was or is.....I have to say, their salsa that comes with the chips at the beginning of your adventure is very, very good! I've only been here once so I can't say that I wouldn't try it again because you always have to try a place more than once if their salsa is that good....but I had some beef enchiladas that just weren't that good at all. Who uses flour tortillas for red enchiladas? that's just preposterous...and this is coming from someone who LOVES flour tortillas. Their rice is very dry which is absolutely one of my worst pet-peeves, and their beans really had no flavor at all. Obviously, i'll have to go back to try something else because people just rave about this place, so we'll have to go see if they can redeem themselves....but from what I tried the first time out...it wasn't much of an adventure. read more

6pm now (went today for a late lunch a little after 3 but lunch ends at 3pm). Other reviewers have said the margaritas were good - I can't vouch for the margaritas as I didn't drink. Here's what I can say - the chips and salsa are mediocre at best. The salsa is watery with no substance and basically "soaks" the chip. The chips were forgettable (as in I can't remember if they were thick, thin, salty, etc.) There are a lot of items on the menu offered in many different combinations, but oddly not one that I could find that sounded good and none that were really a good value. Also what I found strange was that the numbered dinners which had no rice and beans were not cheaper than the other combos (they're usually $3 or so cheaper at all other Mexican places). So we just ordered the full order of the beef fajita nachos - how could they screw that up? Apparently very easily. These were supposed to be the upgraded, superior, deluxe or whatever nachos. Far from! Twelve chips with a little dab of refried beans on each with queso poured on top (making them soggy) and low quality beef sliced up and scattered all over the top. If it was fajita meat it was the worst quality I've ever seen - there were chunks of fat on top of the chips next to the meat (GROSS)! There was also a small side of jalapeños and a scoop of guacamole (which surprisingly was very good). There was so much fat on the meat that we kept having to spit it out. When we were finished I tried to take a picture of all the fat on the plate but the waiter saw what I was doing and came over and snatched it away. So why two stars you might ask and not one? Because as of right now I haven't gotten sick yet and the place seemed clean and staff seemed friendly. This place is more on the tex-mexy side, however it's pretty good! It's a nice quiet spot that usually doesn't get overly crowded. I'm a huge fan of their chicken chimichangas. Their sopapillas are some of the best i've ever had. You can also find a decent margarita here. read more

I'm giving five stars because for the standard Mexican I think they are going for it's dead on. Usually when I sit down somewhere if my fountain diet coke is flat and syrupy I lose my appetite because the food to follow is likely not gonna be good either! I swear by it:). My dad has been going here for years. He has always raved about the fajitas and nachos. So my fiance and I decided to give it a try. We started out by having the flautas with queso. The food was good. The sweet tea, chips and salsa were great. The cheese enchiladas were good made with American yellow cheese and a homemade style enchilada gravy. The refried beans were silky smooth but the rice was just ok. The carne guisada was like a stew with potatoes and had great flavor. Not so happy with their flour tortillas though because they tasted like store bought ones. The service was ok. The #3 platter was a TOTAL disappointment! I thought for a minute that I was in some other country and not in the state of Texas, Houston at that , that should serve some phenomenal Tex-Mex dishes. I received a plate with an upside down corn shell skimpily covered in a cheap jack cheese sauce. The taco which had a stale shell was ok. Then came my chicken enchilada , which was covered in an orange sauce that might have accidentally fallen into sugar or molasses of sort. I have never had a sweet enchilada in my life??? Well my partner and I just nibbled on chips and salsa, asked for the check and vowed never to return. Houston has way too many good Tex-mex places that I will steer clear of this one.
