So, this review isn't of this company's services. This review is of a few good guys who helped me out when I needed it. And they happen to work for this company. Story: Girl and car at gas station. Car is filled up and ready to go. Car starts. Car dies. Battery is culprit. Girl looks around. Girl sees guys (two marines and a truck, to be specific). Guys offer to help. Guys jump car. Girl drives away safe and happy. So, no, I don't know if these guys do the best or worst job. But I do know that a few of their employees are thoughtful and helpful when people need it. And at the end of the day, I'd like to know that the people I hire are good guys. Do with it what you will. read more

I don't usually comment on Yelp but this time, I had to. Two Marines Moving provides an exceptional service. I used them to move furniture from a storage unit to several different destinations. They arrived early, handled my furniture carefully and professionally, and delivered to each destination promptly. The guys were exceptionally polite and kind. The entire move was so pleasant and completed so efficiently, I was stunned. And, to top it all off, the final cost was substantially less than the very reasonable quote I was given! I made arrangements to hire Two Marines and a Truck last weekend for a last minute move and they were awesome. Not only did they complete the move quickly, efficiently, and w/out costing me an arm and a leg, but they really went above and beyond the call of duty (yeah, their name really begs for a few good puns). Here's how: 1. Pre-Move Communication: not only did they show up at 9AM on the dot as promised, but they called 30 minutes ahead of time to let me know they were leaving and would be to my place on-time, right at 9AM. 2. Speediness: they were extremely fast and efficient with moving everything out of my old apartment and were even slightly ahead of schedule toward the beginning of the move, which made up for an unexpected delay when we arrived at the new location (totally my fault, not theirs). 3. Organization: what really blew me away was how well organized everything was when they brought it inside my new place. I was pretty disorganized when I setup for the move - boxes of kitchen things were set aside boxes of clothing. When I got upstairs to the new location, everything was extremely organized and together. 4. Trustworthiness: Before I booked them, I'd read tons of horror stories about OTHER movers who'd charged extra on the day of the move... taken far longer than expected... or were dishonest in some otherway. Two Marines and a Truck are the polar opposite of those types of movers. These are great, trustworthy guys who've served our country and are extremely fast, efficient and skilled movers. I was sooo excited to work with a military company (previous military spouse and current military mother). Reservation and confirmation process went well. However, quote was extremely underestimated. I paid double, had to pay another outside party for set-up of bed and tables (despite it being included in the 2 marines quote. I've had a history of military moves and this one by far was the worst. read more

I used Two Marines Moving twice before for local (DC-area) moves and had great experience. So, I felt comfortable using them for a move from DC to Pittsburgh and it turned out to be an exercise in frustration. Movers showed up late and spent several hours trying to cram my belongings into a truck that was too small. I have to take blame for part of this because I have cancer and can't lift anything too heavy, so my boxes were packed light and I had more than they likely expected. In the process of 'the cram', several of my items were damaged and scratched. I wasn't too upset because I had purchased 'Full replacement value' insurance. Well-turns out that it's not 'full replacement'...it's less than $1 per pound, so a few thousand dollars in damaged property was reimbursed for $125. I think this is a deceptive practice. There's nothing in the contract that indicates that it isn't really 'full replacement'. It borders on something I would take to court. read more

I've used Two Marines twice for moves around the metro area. I'd happily do so again. Where it truly counts, Nick Baucom and his crew do a great job. Both times I've hired them, they've double and triple-checked our agreed-upon moving time; given me a detailed cost estimate, then come in under it; showed up bang on time, if not a couple of minutes early; and treated my things with care and respect, even going so far as to mop my hallway after they tracked in some mud. They're also cute. That doesn't hurt. Since they nailed all the non-negotiables, it feels like quibbling to point out the minor flaws in their service...but: Three things determined the difference between the A I'm giving them and an A+: 1. Cost. They do a variety of jobs from furniture delivery to full-scale moving, and while I've found their prices extremely reasonable for the more complex jobs, they're a little expensive for the simple. The second time I hired them, I only wanted a couch moved four miles from a storage unit to my office. It cost me $238 plus tip (they originally estimated $300). That's as much as it cost me to move my whole (admittedly small) apartment with them in 2009. As they expand, maybe they could strive for more flexible pricing on the smaller jobs. 2. Left items. I left my super-vintage N64 in a grocery bag in their truck when I moved apartments, and it took me a couple of weeks to get it back from them. I know it wasn't a super high priority item, but I missed that thing! 3. Expectorating. On the last job, one of the movers kept hocking loogies onto the ground when we were outside. He was otherwise a gentleman, as was marine #2, but that was gross. read more

Why do I have to give them one star?? They left me up sh__'s creek without a paddle. I've heard good things. I am a former Marine and I am in the home industry (having recommended this service to countless of my clients, bringing this company a lot of revenue, and trying to hook up my fellow servicemen in anyway I can). That said, I got a quote for my own move the other day and sent a few emails along with the quote request. My emails were responded to with generic emails about the company, not addressing anything I wrote about. A few days and emails later, Tom finally contacted me (last night) saying he was booked for tomorrow (this is the stinking DAY BEFORE MY MOVE) after his original quote stated that they were free tomorrow. Yes, quotes aren't binding, hence my suplemental emails asking what else I needed to do to lock this down that went unheeded for this many days. So now I am effed and frantically trying to find decent movers. The website speaks of integrity and dedication to service members. Well I am a disabled Marine and I may end up having to move myself. There is no phone customer service, you have to leave messages on an answering machine and no one returns calls. I attempted to do business with them twice, sent in a quote request online...nothing. I am disappointed that I have to write such a negative review. I specifically chose this company because they only hire military and I wanted to support their efforts. I wish I had a good experience but it was AWFUL. The workers were careless and aggressive with my belongings. Two of my antique pieces (which are not replaceable) were grossly damaged, one of my brand new bookcases was completely destroyed (entire back was literally blown out), the rest of the bookcases and a cabinet were missing all of their hardware so that I had to purchase all new in order to put the shelves back together. Two of my glass end tables were completely broken and unusable. The movers complained about the amount of boxes to move. I purchased additional insurance for the move and when I filed the claim for the pieces it took months for a response and then the adjuster at the company wanted to cheat me on the amount of the claim. I only received compensation when I threatened legal action. Very very Disappointing. Not a good way to represent the brotherhood of the marines, guys. You should be ashamed. Future customers: don't let the integrity of the word marines in the name fool you into thinking you are receiving good customer service or care of your belongings. I really enjoyed the movers from this company. I have told our apartment complex they should start recommending them to all of their new tenants. I'm an active duty Marine and this was my first move without the help/burden of TMO (military contracted movers). Using TMO is always a nightmare...they lose boxes, barely speak English (which makes direction giving difficult), and they carelessly throw things in boxes without any sort of organization or care in the world. The movers from Two Marines Moving were fantastic. They were punctual, polite, and a pleasure to work with. They packed everything up efficiently and put things in the right spot quickly. The job was completed exactly to quoted timeline. You can really tell that movers were veterans. There is a sense of maturity and responsibility that is not typically present in young guys at that age. Although we only had them move the furniture, the work was so good we regretted not hiring them for the entire job. Highly recommended. read more

Jesse and James were awesome. Very professional and were focused on the mission: have a successful, quick, efficient move. They had excellent communication skills too. If you ask them to wrap your stuff, they come with an endless supply of moving wrap and blankets to wrap your valuables. I really appreciated that. I would recommend this service. I've heard too many horror stories about moving companies, and I would trust this company. The prices are reasonable for the area, and if you're expecting a short move, this may be the company for you since their minimum is only 2 hours. Also they charge by 10-minute increments which is nice. The time begins from starting your move, driving to your location, and finishes after they unload all your stuff at your new location. If you want a headache-free experience, hire them, they come and use their trucks, and let them take care of the rest. read more

I've lived in a 2-br apt by myself for 15 yrs. I threw out more stuff than I actually moved. I'm a delegator by nature, so once we talk about doing something, I don't want to talk about it again. Finally, I'm easily agitated and high strung. And yet...Moving Day was easy, uneventful, and successful. I even had fun. Really. Julius & Brad were awesome! Any and all stress I had disappeared when Julius called to let me know they were en route and would be ready to go on time. He was all-business, reassuring. Julius & Brad were proactive and took care of everything. I was embarrassed about the mess and all the trash. They stepped in, reassured me, and made it all go away. No judging or complaining. Why isn't every moving company this good? Several friends and colleagues recommended this moving service. We signed up via their online form, and were contacted by a very helpful and competent office staffer. They clearly explained their prices, policies, and that they would contact us the day before the move, and again in the morning so everyone would be on the same page. Our movers were Kenny and Daniel. They were not only early, but were fast, thorough, and very nice. They handled all of our furniture with great care, packing and padding each piece. The movers were real troopers, given that the weather was sunny, humid, and temps in the low 90's. Also, the condo we moved into was up three flights of stairs...sorry guys! The movers finished roughly 1.5 hours sooner than quoted. Two Marines and A Truck only charges you for the time the job actually takes, so our bill was less than what was originally quoted. First of, I want to make clear that I did not use this company. My review is solely on the quoting process and not the actual moving service. I called to get a quote for a move from an 8 X 10 storage unit into a townhouse down the street. There are probably 5 pieces of smaller sized furniture and 12 boxes in the unit. Two Marines quoted me 5 hours of work with 3 marines plus truck and fuel charges, totaling $780. Seriously?!!? I can hire from a retirement home and they would move faster and cost less. In addition to the absurd estimate, I received 5 phone calls and 1 email within 1 hour. Talk about SPAM... 2 calls were to tell me that they did not have anything available, 1 call is to tell me someone from the sales department will call me back (I thought that was established during my initial call to them). I work with Marines and the military everyday so when it came to finding a moving company I knew where I wanted to start looking. I emailed for a quote for our 1 bedroom apartment and received a reply within 24 hours. We booked a move for a Wednesday toward the middle of the month and then we waited. My husband and I went back and forth on whether or not we would have boxes for them to move in addition to the furniture. I literally had no idea until morning of the move as we stayed up late packing. The morning of the move, the Team Leader called me when they were on their way from Alexandria to my place in Silver Spring. In true military fashion they were military on time - which for everyone else means 15 minutes early. They quickly assessed what needed to be moved, while I did some paperwork with the team leader. They disassembled some pieces, namely a bookcase, a table, and a display case. They were packaged with care and carried out. I had failed to ask for a large picture box in advance but they were able to wrap it in a blanket and secure it without damage for the move. Since we moved into the apartment over 5 years ago, the apartment complex made changes to the hallways and the elevators which posed challenges for the team in removing our couches. (Something I hadn't even really thought about in advance). They worked hard to move everything with no damage, including some inexpensive items from Ikea (which are basically sawdust glued together) - which they accomplished. At the new place, they rebuilt everything they took apart as good as new. My mother who had come from NJ to help us move was so impressed that she asked if Two Marines Moving was available there and was upset they weren't. Definitely recommend. read more

They were able to move my entire apartment in 2 hours (short local move), coming in around 2 hours under estimate. We had no issues with anything broken or missing. This review is for my move back in April 2015. I was moving from Maryland to Virginia and needed a reliable company to help move my large pieces of furniture (I had already moved everything else myself). A friend recommended Two Marines Moving and I was incredibly happy with their service! They arrived a few minutes early, were dressed professionally (clean attire, shirts tucked in, etc.) and were so very polite. The most impressive thing was their attention to detail (wrapping up my furniture to prevent damage in transit) while still being extremely fast and efficient. They charge by every 10 minutes per hour, which is really nice and can help save you some money. Lots of other places round up an hour. I am simply amazed by the fairness, professionalism, and positive attitude Two Marines Moving operates with. I will never use or recommend another moving company over these guys! The booking process was straightforward, and communication was great: they are upfront about everything and will check in on you as your move date approaches. Due to a mistake made by the condo staff where I was moving from, the crew wasn't able to start on time. They maximized their time by explaining the paperwork and readying their supplies, and they didn't start charging me until they could actually start moving things! Wow! When they did start, they moved at an inhuman speed and without stopping. They wrapped up all of my furniture and mattresses in padding and saran wrap to protect it, and carried and stacked everything carefully. They caught up to me on the way over to my new place even though I got a head start, and once there, they did a fantastic and speedy job of unloading, sorting, and unwrapping. They didn't even skip a beat when it started to rain. What I had anticipated taking most of the day took 3 hours. They actually finished faster than the estimate, and charged me less than the 4 hour estimate they had given me. They went far above my greatest expectations. I haven't seen such dedication and professionalism since I left the military. The crew lead, Ben, did an excellent job of explaining and directing everything. It is rare now to find a business that operates with integrity, fairness, and by living up to their advertising, but you guys exceeded it. I will enthusiastically recommend your company to my friends, coworkers, and to my company as the best movers for new hires. I've read some of the other past reviews and all I can say is that clearly there was a change in policies from 2009 until now. I'm not sure why James L. had issues getting a call back, I received a call the same afternoon as I sent in the online request. In fact, I received another call to follow up regarding whether I had decided to use another company over Two Marines. The price I was quoted was comparable to the other companies I checked out. I had a weird move in that I really just needed living room furniture exchanged from my place to my sister's place and back again. In other words, traffic would be the time killer. In order to save me some time, the guys readily chose to use the stairs (which were almost directly across from my apartment door) versus angling into the elevator. They were quick and efficient, professional and courteous. And when they were stopped by an unexpected railroad closure, they called the office and asked if there was something that could be done. Again, I knew that traffic would be the problem (Alexandria to Manassas takes some time), so I didn't expect anything regarding the time delay. I was pleasantly wrong, I was credited back that 10 minutes. I will say that the reason I picked this company over the others was the fact it hired veterans and active servicemen and I am a firm believer in supporting our troops. But had the service and treatment been less than professional and courteous I wouldn't use them again. I am very grateful and pleased to report that not only WOULD I use Two Marines Moving again, I will recommend them to any friends or family members. At the time of our move we worked with/spoke to your VP/partner Christy who was less than helpful (understatement!!)...you were even copied on all correspondence but you never responded. She was rude and even continued to deny that we had an appointment to receive an estimate even when we forwarded her the confirmation email that we received. 1. Hour late; Crew Lead called ahead to inform. Arrival: 9:15AM. Began working: 9:45-10AM. 3PMish finally packed. Unpacked: Approx 6-7PM. Didn't start billing until 10AM, at least. 2. Moved/dragged heavy item after protective wrap came off of corner. I suggested that they stop immediately and recover exposed corner/item . Did not listen and continued to move item, dragging that corner. It peeled the wood back on edge/corner and damaged the wood. This is a very expensive and irreplaceable piece of solid wood furniture which is part of a 10 piece set. 3. Employee arrived at my home and then immediately went into bathroom and stayed for 15 minutes, which was strange. 4. Left wood shelves inside armoire. When moved the shelves tumbled around inside and got damaged. Also, pegs to hold up shelves lost during move. 5. Crew Lead and one other employee moved HUGE headboard alone which was a minimum 3-4 person job. Crew lead got hurt (but kept on working). 6. When the beds were taken apart, by an employee, the difficult to find special screws were not saved and are still missing. Other screws are still missing to other items also. Overall Crew Lead was the strongest and hardest worker and very good. He never stopped moving, even when he got hurt, and was a good leader. For his small size, he is strong. One employee was from Kentucky and came in for part of the day and left. He was strong, smart, and a hard worker. He was able to lead the others in decisive manner. The other employee was Mexican and a hard worker too. Most of the employees tried, to the best of their limited, inexperienced ability, but were unprepared - not really their fault as there was no pre-move survey. I believe that this was the management's fault. There was no pre-move survey to accurately assess necessary resources. I specifically stated that there was heavy furniture, including a large headboard that may need to go up via a 4th story window. A third employee was nearly useless and we paid more hours due to his lack of "heavy lifting" and slow moving. Many times throughout the day, I had to direct him to pick up boxes sitting in the truck when he was standing around and not on an expected break or lunch break. We will give the crew great accolades for them trying to get a very heavy headboard upstairs - giving credit where credit is due -that was a very valiant effort. In summary, I will not use this company again. Management didn't take the necessary steps pre-move to insure that the employees actually moving that day could fulfill their job. No one came to the home to access the project; the employees were in experienced which caused slower work due to getting hurt and not knowing what to do in certain situations. Unfortunately I am NOT able to recommend your company. I don't want anyone else to have to go through what I went through on moving day. We wanted to give Two Marines a try, but it was not a good move. Bottom line: If you have an EASY move with a few pieces of furniture and boxes, they MAY work, but if you have high end, solid wood pieces that you dont want damaged, GO ELSEWHERE! These guys were amazing. I can't stress enough how flawless the packing of our uhaul went because of these guys. We were relatively prepared (moved most of our boxes from 3rd to 2nd floor of our townhome, had one of us helping to pack in the truck while the guys did the heavy lifting) and I think this went a long way. The guys attacked our 3 story house like nothing - I was shocked. They were concerned we might not have a big enough truck so we talked about "high priority" items, what I could stand to leave at the curb, and they even helped us take out the stuff that wasn't getting moved. *Overall, professionalism was awesome. My movers were super! *Pricing - competitive. I love that if they go over your allotted time they charge you in 10 minute increments instead of just tacking on an extra hour *Quality of move - great! No damage to our stuff whatsoever. We got to our final destination yesterday and it took 8 of us to unpack what these guys did in 2 hours. Just sayin'.... I'll recommend these guys to everyone I can. I have not used Two Marines Moving. However, based on the customer service I experienced with one set of movers, I will not use them for my next move. I was leaving my garage to exit my apartment community. Thank goodness, I wasn't in a hurry! A Two Marines Moving van had pulled up parallel to another moving van (which had been there for a while) and blocked the road entirely. Approximately one-third of my apartment community was prevented from exiting because of this. (Note - one moving van in the road curtails traffic but does not completely block it.) When I asked the guys from Two Marines Moving about why they parked there, knowing they were blocking the roadway (and if it wasn't evident to them then there is a larger problem), they dismissed me with the statement that the first moving truck would be leaving in 5 minutes. First of all, how is fully blocking any road for 5 minutes ok? Second, it wasn't 5 minutes. It was closer to 20 minutes and would have been longer had I not gone to the manager's office and had them force one of the trucks to move. The guys from Two Marines Moving could have cared less about the inconvenience they created. This is too bad because they lost at least one potential future customer (me) and, believe me, I will be discouraging all of my friends from using this moving company as well. The head guy was lucky I did not call the police when he said "you have a nice day, ma'am" which is basically the equivalent of telling me to f- off. By that time, the other moving van had left and I was able to get out of the community. If this is the way Two Marines Moving conducts business then they have no reason to be in business. read more

Scheduled a full service move. On the first day, the guys were supposed to pack everything, but took way longer than original amount of time slotted and left quite a few things unpacked, setting the Crew for the second day up to be behind schedule as well. Upon unpacking items, we found some delicate items such as picture frames were not wrapped and had broke. Also, misplaced legs to the couch which we had to call the company several times to track down before they were returned to us. Poor service, sloppy with lack of care and attention to detail. Would not recommend. The only reason I give one star and not zero is because the team leader on the second day was apologetic and took a little bit off our bill read more

Highly disappointed!! We had high hopes for this veteran owned company and they were great up until the day of moving everything in to our new home. The moment they backed the first moving truck in to our drive and opened the door it went downhill. They let go of a bungee strap holding our belongings up, and everything came tumbling down like a game of dominos. They did not disassemble furniture properly and there were random pieces everywhere. They broke our boys' bunk beds and the baby's crib. We had no we're for them to sleep for 2 weeks. We purchased their insurance policy which is a complete joke. They ordered "replacements" that were no where new at the quality of what we had. They broke, tore, and/or smashed multiple cabinets, couches, antique furniture, bar stools, broke nearly everything glass but said it was our fault for the way we packed it. They took chunks out of the walls of our new home. Threw their moving blankets on top of our landscaping and left trash in the garage. We attempted to contact by call, text and email for days asking for how they were going to finish replacing things and their claims associate snottily said they had 90 days to make it right per our contract. 90 days came and went and they will not return our messages. As a disabled veteran myself, I have moved a lot. Choosing to use Two Marines Moving, hands down, was the worst moving decision I have ever made. First, they tried to double charge me for the box packing and truck loading service. Then, they charged me more than $900 a month for storage, to include a monthly cost for dozens of blankets. With all those blankets, I thought my stuff would be sufficiently safe, but they damaged most of my furniture. Having moved many times, I understand that some items in transit are going to get bumps and bruises, however the frequency and extent of the damage is unacceptable (in particular, a solid wood nightstand made for me by my grandfather more than 2 decades ago was completely demolished). Next, they lost a whole pallet of furniture. Once the lost furniture was found, I was told it would come on the following Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon, I was told Friday. Friday afternoon, I was told Saturday. Saturday afternoon, I was told they didn't know when it would be delivered. Monday afternoon, on my way to work, I got a call saying my shipment would arrive in three hours. For delivery alone, I ended up taking off four days of work only to wait around and be told it wasn't coming. When that missing pallet finally arrived, Two Marines had lost the screws to my bed. I've had to reach out to the manufacturer to purchase replacement hardware. I put in damage claims but haven't heard any response as of the writing of this review. This ended up costing as much as it would have with a big company like Allied Van Lines and was more time consuming and damaging to my possessions than using u-Haul and local movers. You're better off using either of those options over Two Marines. read more

This is what I called moving! They gave me an over the phone estimate to move 40+ boxes and a handful of furniture. The dispatcher told me that the movers will be there at 8am. The movers called me at 7:30am to inform me that they were on the way and they arrive a little before 8am. (Mind blown) Then the two ex-marines (I asked) then proceeded to move my boxes and stack them into their van in record time. They were hustling. I was so impressed I tipped! Then they delivers the boxes and misc items to my parents' basement without delay. When I went the next day to check it out the boxes and misc items were neatly stacked and placed in the basement. I have now used to Marines Moving 4 times in the last three months. I had to move 2 house, 1 office and my brother's house move. These guys did a great job. Everyone was polite and courteous. They had a phenomenal work ethic and attitude. I felt one of their quotes was a little bit high and as soon as I had an issue they connected me right to the owner of the company. I spoke to the owner for just a few seconds and we were able to work it out and he discounted the rate to make me happy. Anytime I call the office I always speak to a real person. We just hired Two Marines for our move yesterday. I was a little nervous about the idea of movers (first time) but we were moving to a walk-up and we needed help. They emptied our one bedroom apartment in one hour but we were extremely prepared for our move. Kenny was great and treated everything with care. I've always been scared of using movers for stuff as I've had bad experiences. I tried these guys due to the positive Yelp reviews. I could not have been more happy with the way it went. They were super fast and professional. There were some other people moving into my building at the same time and they were just sitting around and these guys dealt with the awkwardness of asking them to move since they were taking a break. So I hire 2 Marines and I get 3 Army guys! And man, did they impress me. Joel was my contact over email and phone fro mthe start. He was very professional and made me comfortable with the process from the start. I appreciated the follow up phone calls and regular and responsive contact as the big day approached. The quote process was spot on. They said they'd be done by 2 and they were done by 2:30... the extra hour was because I had them bring something from my new place back to my old place... so that part was really my fault and they would have actually finished early. Michael was my crew lead and he impressed me considerably. His hustle was pretty amazing. The other 2 guys worked out of my view, but it was pretty clear that the 3 worked as a cohesive team because I really couldn't believe how fast those boxes moved. Michael and his team were very professional. After 17 years of moving with the military, I am much more accustomed to a lax attitude of movers. This team was 180 degrees from anything I've ever experienced. Michael said that my move was smooth because of how I packed... so adherence to the 2 Marine's packing guidance is important. I used them back when I moved into my place in December. I'm just now getting to review them because I forgot my password on yelp- sorry guys! It was a great experience. They moved me from a storage unit in Leesburg to a townhouse in Arlington. They got lost for about 10 minute and knocked off about 30 minutes of my time for the "trouble" but honestly we were trying to get in and move things out of their way while we waited. My wife and I had to move three different times in the greater Washington DC area in a little more than a year. We used three different moving companies, and Two Marines was by far the best. They arrived right on time, and started whisking our boxes away just as soon as they arrived. In fact, my wife had left a few smaller items to be packed as we went, but we had to race to get them packed up because the movers were moving so quickly. They got to our new home right away, and unpacked as quickly as they had packed us up. A 5 hour estimated move was completed in 3.5 hours (although I helped a bit with taking plastic/blankets off furniture as we went), and we got to keep the difference. Needless to say, we gave some of it to the guys as a well-deserved tip. They did ding one of our walls when they were moving a couch, but the crew chief grabbed me right away to show it to me. He took a picture and recommended that I should take one as well, and gave me directions on how to submit the claim. Things always get banged around when you move, but these guys were quick to own up to it and show us how to get it fixed.
