a meal in a plastic container

Been there twice ..had the basic burger to test the place out and it was simply ok. Beef needs seasoning!. Not so much sauce and it screams for red onion. The fries were good and I liked the salad although very small portion. All my coworkers agree its was just ok. Go to south street for a better burger. Next I got the 18$ fettuccini alfredo and I won't be back. Sorry, but I will deter the maaaaany lunch orders we place away from you and that's sad as the area needs quality food. The pic says it all. Under cooked pasta, the most pathetic piece of garlic bread all used with dry herbs that just scream for real ones...chicken cooked on its own and placed on top. I bet the alfredo was from a can. Shame! If there's anyone in the kitchen with talent, they ain't cookin. Don't be fooled by their pictures. With this area on the verge of booming and restaurants already falling victim to closing, not good!

Salt & Steak offers a cozy, modern atmosphere that makes it a comfortable spot for a nice meal. The…read moreservice was good--friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The steak was tender and cooked well, and it came with condiments like jus and steak sauce, which added to the experience. However, the steak itself could have used a bit more seasoning and a stronger smoky flavor to really elevate it. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience with room for improvement in flavor depth.

I personally did not enjoy any part of this dining experience. We had made a reservation which…read moreabsolutely was not needed because the place was dead inside. the walls were so dirty so it was a bit off putting to be eating beside old sauce / dead bugs. service was absolutely non existent. The two ladies were just talking off on the side and texting on their phone all in plain sight. I understand there may be downtime in any shift but it lowers the vibe of the dining experience and also our soft drinks took forever to come to our table. just a Coke and just a sprite - also no offer for refills or asking if we wanted other drinks. the food itself took a LONG time to come out - only two entrees, no appetizers or fancy platters. once the food did come out I was surprised that everything was SO salty. also weird it's auto served with ketchup and bbq sauce. My steak had a lot of gristle on it and typically when the waitress would check in how things were I'd either mention it or they would apologize for the cut - but neither of the servers came by. I also didn't want to risk waiting another half hour for mediocre food and service. a family came in and they were seated right near us even though the restaurant was empty so that was also weird seating. when our meals were over and plates taken away eventually, we waited again for 10 minutes for someone to come by so we could get our bill. it's a weird layout because it's like the restaurant wants to be boujie but the service and food just don't meet the criteria. Needless to say it was not a good birthday dinner and I wouldn't recommend it.

Compared to what you get in vancouver or the tricities we find the pricing to be very fair. Ontop of that the portions are good. Being a golf course in a beautiful setting that pasta plate could've easily been $40+ in vancouver. With how nicely landscape is the service is good and friendly. We enjoyed how there was live music inside but we chose to be outside .

Although we sat in the dining side, we were able to hear the live music playing in the lounge which was amazing. I loved the Brussels sprouts and potato skins. We also ordered the bolognese which was nothing out of the ordinary. One downfall was our service. It took over ten minutes before we had our drink order taken. When our entrees arrived, three out of the six meals were brought to the table over 5 minutes after the initial three dishes were served. A male who we assumed was the manager approached our table, asked us how our evening was, said "great okay thank you" and walked away. It was a nice gesture, however the interaction was not very professional. I would come back for happy hour !

Shoestring Café is a small family owned business located in the industrial area of No. 6 Rd…read more Without word of mouth, one would typically not notice a restaurant in this area. However, I know why this restaurant continues to be booked and busy. I have been various times before but this was the first time in the last few years. I would describe this restaurant as western fine dining for a Chinese palate. You'll find some classic dishes but less heavy on the salt and grease, perfect for myself and the party I was dining with. I ordered the 5 course meal which was a fantastic deal for $65. The bread service at the start is so warm and yummy - don't skip out on it! The pesto sauce tiger prawns weren't overly pesto forward and had a strong presence of garlic - perfect for me! I loved the chowder as I especially like corn. The portion was also perfect considering I had many courses coming afterwards. Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. For each dish, I found the garnishes pleasing as well (especially the strawberry which was so sweet and ripe!). I think the best deal of the night was the steak. It was not too salty and cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. I managed to have leftovers as well since the portions were overwhelmingly good. Finally, the star of the night was definitely the chocolate soufflé for me. I loved the rich bitterness of the chocolate paired with ice cream on the side. I don't think this place is the best representation for fine dining. After all, they do not serve any alcohol. However, I think it is a great deal and accommodating to my taste buds. If I do not wish to drive out for fancy food, I know I can rely on the food at Shoestring café. As it is a family run business, there is only one person managing the front and I think they do a pretty good job at juggling all the duties of a host, server, and table busser! I would love to return soon.

Friendly service and I love how passionate they are about quality and using fresh ingredients (eg…read morefresh mushrooms for sauces and fresh made pasta). Steamed mussels and soufflé were so addictive and heavenly. The mussels were savoury and buttery and the soufflé was airy with the perfect amount of sweetness. They were very good! Hits and misses for the mains. While the pasta and sauce were great, we wish the seafood were panfried or something to give it a bit more texture. The duck was well done but not tough (we generally like medium rare) though we were confused by why the skin was served down as crispy skin is always a plus for duck breasts. I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes but theirs was not overly heavy and buttery, which I really appreciated and enjoyed. This reminds me of Asian western food but they were tasty and the ambience was cozy - a local neighbourhood spot.
