Nagiri was room temp. And miso soup was $6 for what was obviously the powder soup in the paper cup from the grocery store. Only saw our waitress three times. We were seated in the back area with nobody else around, didn't see our server for another 20 minutes so we had to go retrieve her. She didn't deliver one piece of food, which all came at different times. Then we had to retrieve her once again to get our check. While Atlanta may hold the crown for the most authentic Japanese food in this region of the South, Two Ten Jack remains Chattanooga's champion for this amazing cuisine. Service: A reservation, especially on the weekends, is definitely a good idea. The hosts have been welcoming and friendly any time I've gone to TTJ. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu, which is great if you are not familiar with Japanese cuisine. Don't be intimidated and just ask for help. Food: The Japanese Fried Chicken (JFC) as an appetizer is my favorite dish to start out with. It's paired with an aioli that complements the juicy and flavorful bites very well. Drizzle that lemon on the chicken and ask for more if you want that extra touch of citrus. The hotate (yakitori) was smoky and had a subtle note of bacon that brought the scallop to life in a unique way. My friend ordered the negima (yakitori) and was extremely pleased with his choice. My go-to ramen at TTJ is the Spicy Crab Garlic Noodle. The spice level is catered to a more American palate but has enough heat to be exceptionally pleasant to my Latin-American taste buds. The crab is tender and exactly the flavor you want. The Tori Paitan Shoyu (ramen) is a close second for me with a wonderful chicken broth and traditional soft egg that delights the senses. Caveat: Note that this restaurant is marketed as upscale so keep in mind that the prices and portions will reflect that. Atmosphere: TTJ makes a wonderful spot for a date night. The subtle lighting, subterranean venue, and use of wood paneling and minimal décor make for a tasteful and relaxing experience. Ask for a booth if you want that sense of privacy that many come to expect in Japanese restaurants. It's location in Ware House Row makes it ideal for an evening stroll afterwards. TTJ may have gotten a 5-star rating from me at one point, but I have had one experience there in which my party had an inattentive server and frustratingly long wait for our food that I have not been able to forget. I also enjoy Japanese food in Atlanta regularly enough to recognize some distinctions that set these restaurants apart. For Chattanooga, however, I do recommend this restaurant become part of your rotation. read more

Here I sit at Two Ten Jack, finishing my glass of wine and trying to console myself. I am devastated, gutted and heartbroken that you have eliminated my beloved sake tataki (perfectly prepared salmon on a bed of fabulous Brussels sprouts) from your new menu! What's worse is you offer nothing in its place... There's literally nothing in the same hemisphere as that. To add insult to injury, the Shishito peppers are unrecognizable and tasteless. The sauce that was with the previous version was heavenly and now it tastes like nothing but oily peppers. I am all for keeping it fresh and reinventing one's self but when you take the best things off your menu, I have to question your leadership. This is a great Japanese restaurant. It's a bit hard to find if you're not familiar with the area. But there's a nice sign pointing you in the right direction once you're in the warehouse. It's downstairs in this cute, airy building. When we walked in we were greeted by the hostesses and seated immediately. We ordered so much food! We had the gyoza, brussel sprouts, crab ramen, vegetarian ramen, shishuto peppers, yellowfin, sushi, and cocktails. Everything was DELICIOUS!! We ordered three rounds of the brussel sprouts and gyoza! Ha! And the ramen is so flavorful. The noodles are al dente, but they were also very tasty. The service was top tier. Best meal I've had over my weekend in Chattanooga, hands down. The earliest reservation we could get for a party of four was 8:45pm, which was later than we'd like. Decided to go in at 7:45, and the hostess was able to seat us immediately in a corner booth that was very private. Hip underground warehouse vibe, with a couple bars, two separate dining areas, with windows between them. We were promptly greeted by our server, Stephanie, who took excellent care of us. We started with shochu, which was very good, but a bit too much pineapple juice for our tastes. (We skipped the pineapple juice on the next one). We sampled the on-tap rum cocktails they call, simply #'s 1, 2 & 3, as well. All tasty. I enjoyed a #3. Now, for the food... we literally made a meal out of virtually every "small plate" on the menu (two of our favorites) along with one or two ramens, some sashimi and a couple rolls. Without exception, every dish was fantastic, but the absolute must-haves, IMO, the spicy crab garlic noodles, shishito peppers, yellowtail jalapeño, pork belly and Japanese fried chicken (JFC). Many people recommended Two Ten Jack, so I was excited to check out this restaurant in the cool underground space. We were quickly seated, but it took the server a looonngg time to greet us. She was very nice when we did see her, but it was off putting to sit for so long without being greeted. We were quickly provided waters and I was happy to put my order in for a seaweed appetizer, ramen, and fried rice. The seaweed appetizer came out first, it was a pile of green tangled veggies. So I was excited, but upon first bite, the flavors were lack luster and it appeared to be primarily not seaweed. The tonkatsu ramen came out next. It was okay, I mean, they did HAVE ramen. The egg was okay, but nothing to write home about. My stomach actually hurt as I tried to eat the ramen. I don't think it was cooked poorly- just really not good. I would not take my friends here to eat ramen. Lastly was the fried rice, it was one of the hyped up dishes from our friends. I couldn't put my finger on what was going on with this one, was it burnt? We're all of the seasonings from the kitchen thrown in it? The egg helped this dish, but once the egg was gone, I couldn't continue eating. I couldn't finish any of the dishes, the flavors just weren't there. I would say it is a nice date place with little appetizer style options in addition to noodle entrees. They have sashimi options, edamame and japanese fried chicken. The items are a little but overpriced but definitely delicious. Recommend the fried chicken as an appetizer. Recommend the garlic noodles as well, the crab and the seasoning creates a nice pepper spice flavor. "Meh". I went to Two Ten Jack last night with a few friends after having been a couple previous times last year (loved it then) however was left feeling slightly unimpressed. I absolutely love the vibe and interior of the place but the food was simply underwhelming. We got JFC ( Japanese Fried Chicken ) for the table and it was extremely greasy - the flavor was decent but nothing special. The sushi is overpriced for the taste and there is next to zero selection. We all got the ramen (vegetable for two of us and pork for the other two) and it was overly salty with non-traditional flavors. Great if you're looking for something less authentic with more of an americanized twist. This restaurant was a bit hard to find since we're not from the area, but once we found it, it wasn't too bad of a walk, I guess. I gave them 3 stars due to the following: 1. Location: We had no idea where it was... until we found it. It was right across from Talbot and then you had to walk down some steps to find the front door. I wish there was a big sign and an arrow to help us since we have already spend 8 hours walking around exhibits and attractions. Just a spoiled brat complaining. 2. Service: Our waiter was very nice and knowledge. One of the cocktails that I wanted wasn't available so he recommended something else and it was so good! A+ for service. They do 3 hour parking validation if you park in the garage. We, of course, didn't know, so we parked on the street then walked down the block to find the restaurant. 3. Food: We both had the tonkotsu ramen, chicken nuggets, spicy miso edamame, and 2 cocktails. This is where the stars fell for me. i'm used to the ramen places in Atlanta and NYC, so when I had this ramen, I didn't particularly like it. It was bland and lack flavor to me. They didn't give you the option of adding in spice, but my server was nice enough to find me some spicy chili oil. The spicy miso edamame was delicious, but the chicken nuggets were just okay. 4. Setting: the decor is so rustic with a lot of exposed brick walls. I love the decor not so much the food. The tables were all spaced out and had a bottle of really bad smelling hand sanitizer on top. Good thought tho. The ambience really is a great date night type of restaurant, but we were just hungry and tired from all the tourist stuff that I don't think I really appreciated the ambience all that much. 5. Price: With 2 bowls of ramen, 2 appetizers, and 2 alcoholic drinks, our total came out to be roughly $68ish. If you check in, you get a free edamame! Overall, nice restaurant to try, but I wouldn't come back if I was in the area again. read more

My favorite ramen spot in Chattanooga! You have to start with the crispy Brussels sprouts - they are crunchy, a little sweet, a little salty and so full of flavor. The spicy garlic crab noodles is absolutely my favorite, it's rich, creamy and has a little bit of a punch. If you are looking for a soup tonkotsu ramen is the way to go! A great Ramen restaurant. Awesome location and ambiance. Tonkotsu ramen was excellent. Not a drop was left, which means it was tasty and a really good portion. The broth was so buttery and full of flavor. The noodles were "al dente" if that can be used for Japanese noodles, and I really enjoyed that. Many a times they are overcooked which is fine but this noodle cook was awesome. The sushi was interesting... Taste was very good and made up for the fact that there was too much rice. Raw tuna - very tasty. Apples, sauce and fresh tuna? Yumm. Dumplings? Excellent and must try. Hope you find it helpful and don't hesitate to check it out. Note: they were short staffed yet the food arrived pronto and the bartender handled the large amount of customers like a pro. When I tried to tell her that the online systems was down she continued to be rude and short and hung up again!! like WTF? Very rude and not someone who should work in sales or hositality. I would have given this place 5 star but my ramen was not cooked correctly. The noodles had stuck together and some looked like a dreadlock. I didn't even tell the waiter and saved the cook the embarrassment. But the noodles, even if they were not perfect, were cooked and edible. So I ate them. I also got some warm sake, it was a snowy night, and some tekoyaki (octopus "hush puppies") to open my appetite. The octopus was really good. Then my yasai shoyu ramen (vegetarian w/fried tofu & egg) came. My friend ordered a traditional tonkotsu ramen. The ramen flavors were really good. I would say this ramen was one of the better ones I've had across the Eastern USA (not accounting for the noodle mishap). The ambiance is cool. Some people are overworked. read more

I recently have dined here twice, and want to already go back again. First time was with 5 other friends. We started with a variety of starters & everyone got a different entree, all of which was very good. Lots of flavors, quick on part of the staff & kitchen. Last time was just for the ramen. Definitely a great decision to try this spot. I was solo so I sat at the bar. The bartender was awesome. Super friendly and helpful in picking items off the menu. I had the East by Northwest to drink. Very refreshing. He allowed me to taste it before hand. For the appetizer I have the crispy Brussels- OMG!!!!! I nearly ate the whole bowl before the ramen arrived. I chose the vegetarian ramen. The noodles were the perfect consistency and the broth was great. I love the area where this restaurant sits, in Warehouse Row. Very cool place with lots of restaurants and shopping, including one of my favorite stores in the world, Lululemon. I was looking for a good place to eat, and saw the reviews here so I decided to check it out. Luckily, I had just managed to make the end of their Happy Hour, and score a glass of house wine for $5. The restaurant was trendy, and I liked the vibe of the place. But it was all downhill from there. The food was the issue, and as good as the atmosphere was, the food just wasn't on par. I ordered a sushi roll, and it had jalapenos on top. Even with that, it wasn't spicy. So I asked for a side of spicy mayo, and was shocked they didn't carry it. The rice was semi-hard, and tasted like it had been sitting out a good while. The roll just didn't hit a home run for me. I ordered a side of crispy brussel sprouts, because I love them and the waitress said they were outstanding. So...they weren't. In fact, they tasted like they had dumped an entire shaker of salt on them. A little salt goes a long way. These were barely edible with all that salt on them. Very disappointing. My daughter had some ramen dish, and she didn't care for it, but the broth was again, full of salt. I don't get why they felt the need to seriously over-salt everything. It really takes away from the flavors of the food. Despite the nice decor and vibe, I'd definitely avoid this place in the future. read more

I see the allure of this place. It is COOL. You walk underground and it feel like you might be in New York City or another bigger city. The atmosphere is really unique and amazing. I have been here 3 times so far and sat at the bar every time. Not a complaint, just creating the ambiance. The service all times was better than average. Not great, but not bad. Again, I sat at the bar, so I take that into consideration. I think the thing that surprises me most about this place is the excellent ratings it gets on its ramen. I have had Tonkotsu ramen here, which was just average and they do not give you narutomaki. The broth wasn't the best I have ever had. Really good Tonkotsu broth has that rich, fatty goodness and I felt like this was a bit watery and flavorless. It may have been an off night though. It wasn't bad, but I have had much better. I would give it a 5/10. My biggest complaint was the second time I went. I got the mazeman crab ramen. Now before you say "you should have known you were ordering brothless ramen!", well, I did know that. The portion size was very small and there was hardly any crab in it at all. I think if you doubled the portion size and had a few larger pieces of crab, it would be worth the price. The buttery flavor was very good. It was just very tiny. I would give it a 6/10, but if they tweaked the portion size/crab content, this one would easily be 9/10. The third time I went I had the sushi. It was ok. The sushi selection is very, very small, so don't go expecting a lot of variety. I also had the skirt steak skewer and it was really good. This place gets SO MANY good reviews and recommendations and it looks so COOL I want to love it. I really, really do. I will probably end up trying it again in the future. We shared the tonkotsu ramen, and while it didn't compare with the ramen you get in larger cities with all the toppings, it was very tasty. There were additional toppings you could add at an extra cost. The ramen had one small slice of pork and not that much broth. We also ordered the daily special sushi roll and the giant prawn roll. Both tasted fresh. We had to ask for the wasabi and ginger. We finished with chicken wings. You get six. They were flavorful but small. The creamy sauce served with them was good but it didn't seem to really go with the wings. Lastly, it's kinda a pet peeve of ours when we are eating in a restaurant and the staff starts sweeping up. While you are finishing your meal, do you really want dirt and such stirred up in the air? I've been coming here since they opened. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Chattanooga, and I still desperately want it to be, but....it's gone so downhill lately. The time before last that we went, one chef quit unexpectedly. It seems like they don't have enough staff for a normal day, much less an emergency. We've consistent noticed that, as we've come here multiple times a week. Anyway, we waited forever for the hostess, and when we got seated, we waited forever for a server. Our server was also the bartender, and she was tending to the giant bar full of people and also at least six tables. It was uncomfortable just watching her try to keep up. So we go to order our usual sushi, and we can't because the chef quit. There was no info online about that when we made our reservation. We suck it up and order ramen, okoname age (sp? It's the tater tots with pork) and Brussels sprouts. My boyfriend gets sick almost immediately after these. Oof. We chalk it up to coincidence. After calling regularly to see if they have a sushi chef, we finally hear yes! So tonight we went there with our reservation ready. Again, when we go the host is nowhere to be found. We wait five minutes-ish while the waiting area fills up with people and finally the guy comes out. No apology or our wait, no nothing. Just shows us to our table. He likely has too many jobs for what he's being paid, if it's anything like the bartender. We fish some kind of black broom hair (?) out of our Brussels sprouts. I thought it was a hair hair at first, but it was too thick for that. We wanted to enjoy our experience, so we didn't say anything. We ordered two sushi rolls - the St. Elmo's fire and the daily maki. The daily maki had a giant bone in it. Strike number....I've lost count. I don't know. I want to love it here, but it's just not what it was in the beginning,. I think we've decided it's just here for drinks and elsewhere for food.
