While I got a refund from my horrendous visit, I am still upset at what Giovanni did to my hair. The front of it was completely chopped off and is taking forever to grow back! I was returning to work after maternity leave and wanted a fresh hair cut w/ color, instead, my hair was botched and is unfixable until it grows back. Beware of this salon! In response to the owner's comment, Giovani did not do my wedding hair because I questioned his skill set level. Despite him having experience, my hair still came out botched and it will take a long time for it to be like it was before. My pregnancy had nothing to do with the front of my chair being chopped off because the stylist was running around the salon tending to different clients' hair. I got a full refund because it was a really bad mistake on the stylist's part. I've never had baby hair and the comments coming from the owner are ridiculous. It's a super overpriced hairsalon. They try to make it look upscale, but there is nothing upscale about it but the price tag. I booked an appointment on Saturday afternoon, last minute. Was surprised I got in so easily, considering the weekend. Initially requested a highlight that was listed as $240+. The master stated something around $300 after looking at my hair. Apparently, nothing is included in that price, so I ended up paying over $400. Does the color like nice? It's fine. Does it worth $400+? Not at all. The master was fine but I can't justify the price. They offer a discount of 10% to the first time clients. Doesn't help at all. Feels like they add 20% to the total bill to give you 10% off. Rather than that a clean place. read more

Sandra is awesome :) She has done my natural-looking blonde highlights three times so far. She was able to understand what I wanted and deliver a great result when the other salon I went to couldn't. She is also very sweet, friendly, understanding, and knowledgable. The whole salon in fact is great and I recommend it! Of course I will say the price is a little steep, but honestly I think that is what you can expect to get in a Manhattan salon. I've been here before for color (Giovanni is AMAZING). Unfortunately the cut experience was not the same. While my stylist was nice, I asked for a blunt cut and got the most uneven, choppy haircut that I now have to go elsewhere to correct. What's more is the service for a shampoo and cut is $45 and my total "with tax" $54. I was in the midst of a conversation with the stylist so I didn't realize it until I saw it on my bank statement. $54 total on a $45 bill is 20% tax - NYC is 4.5% tax for salons, so they threw extra charges in there and never emailed me a receipt. Before you ask if it was the tip, it wasn't. I tipped her on top of this. I didn't get a blow dry because I live down the street, so I didn't realize how rough it was until I had a few days to sit in it. It was so uneven in the front, I had to cut an inch of hair off of one front piece for it to match the length of the other side. Below you can see my blunt "all one length" haircut. It's long in the back and underneath, the length I wanted in the front. I've now been put in the position to pay for another haircut which is super unfair. I've had some really horrible experiences with haircuts in the last year - I expressed this to my stylist. I didn't realize this would contribute to my fear of people not listening to what I ask for. Careful with purchasing Groupon's at this location because they may tell you they will no longer accept it even if it's still valid with your account. I purchased my Groupon on 6/9/22. I called on 8/3/22 to make an appointment with the Groupon I purchased. The woman put me on the books, no problem. A few days later (8/11/22) I get a voicemail from *the same woman* (I remembered her voice) she tried to say the receptionist that put me down was new and made a mistake and that they pulled that Groupon off the site so I cannot use it. Only new client discount (10%) Even though my Groupon wasn't expired. I just called to cancel my appointment to ensure I wouldn't get charged and I hear *the same woman* in the background say "yeah I left her a message" - thankfully the woman that took and confirmed my cancellation also didn't try to rebook me so made my decision even easier. Really disappointing :( I have long curly hair and the first time I came in they charged me $110, which was fine. The day before my second appt, I called to make sure that would still be the case. The man on the phone confirmed that the range for my long curly hair is $110-120, and he told me that I could also get the first timer 10% discount since I didn't get it last time and he would leave a note of it on my account. Because of this confirmation, I cancelled an appt I had made at a more upscale salon that had quoted me $150. However, when I sat down in the chair, Kolorbar told me it would be $150 as well. I told them what the man told me on the phone, and they acted like they didn't believe me. They asked, "who did you talk to", and said "you already got the discount last time"... which, if that last part were true, NO ONE told me. Not my last stylist and not the man I spoke to on the phone. The communication was really poor. I didn't realize I had to relay names to be believed. The stylist finally agreed on $120 but then proceeded to let my wet hair drip on my shoulders while she was distracted talking to someone else, did not hold my knotty hair while brushing it (I had to ask), almost burned my scalp with the blowdryer, and refused to go over my hair with a flatiron without charging $15 extra, which was not the case last time I was there, or in ANY other salon I've been to. It felt like she was rushing to get it over with. I won't say names because I'm not trying to be mean here, only stating my experience. Very sad and disappointed. The only reason I give two stars instead of one is because the woman who cut my hair the first time was nice. But regardless, no one here seems to know how to cut curly hair. If they had kept my initial rate, I would have considered coming back in the future. It's really a shame. I have baby fine,thinning hair and her Magic hand's give me body and Shine. The salon is spotless, Eva the manager is warm, and friendly and always asks if everything was okay.She cares about her client's and her Amazing staff. If I need a shampoo and blow dry and Francesca is off or booked I have used Ambra! Delightful,and talented and very friendly. When one has thinning hair you need a Master Hairstylist. Natalie at the Kolorbar was able to give me a quick haircut while I was wandering around prior to my work conference here in NYC. I have not had my hair cut in months and my ends were looking BERY scraggly. So when I had some tome on hands and their store had just opened for the day, I thought, "Why not?" I opted for just the shampoo and cut for $30. They do offer blow-outs, but it costs additional (tip: check in on the Yelp app for a deal on the blow out!) My hair dries really quickly and I wasn't going for an overly impressive look, so I was happy to forgo that luxury. What I did get was a wonderfully relaxing and refreshing shampoo and condition experience, followed by a precise and quick trim. Diana is fantastic and saved my hair after someone else totally ruined them. She is an absolute professional ,very passionate about her work and takes care of her clients 100%! Tried this salon at the recommendation of a friend and was frustrated / disappointed by the result. I asked for long layers and ended up with an awkward chop in the front that looks like I'm trying to grow out side bangs after I foolishly cut them myself. I think the poor stylist thought she was giving me something fresh (literally all I wanted was a boring layered haircut for my boring straight long hair) and when I saw what my hair looked like she kept telling me this is a trendier look. She tried to fix it but the front layers / bang like clump was too short to put up in a ponytail already (essential for my job) so I didn't want it any shorter and the damage was done. After going to Kolorbar about three years ago, I wasn't ecstatic about the results. I was happy, but not the happiest. With a sudden change of heart, I decided to give it a second chance right before going back to college on a random Tuesday during a break. To let you know early, I am so, so, so happy I did. I have never, ever been happier about a color job (or the kind of attention I got during the process). I was unknowingly scheduled with Rosa when I signed up for an appointment online. Once I arrived, she greeted me and we started talking about the kind of color I wanted. She was so attentive, so responsive, so real about the reality of what I wanted to get done. Honestly, it was as if I was hanging out with a friend rather than a colorist at a salon. It was such a personal, comfortable experience. You'll see in the photos attached (please excuse how weird the one before is, it just shows the color well), my previous color was pretty far from my roots. I told Rosa I wanted a seamless, "melted" balayage, one that allowed for it to grow out naturally without a lot of maintenance. She did that plus some, and that plus some was getting it as light as I wanted. She was absolutely amazing. I really can't put into words how appreciative I am for her work and her time. I have trouble expressing exactly what I want and she took the time to listen and figured out exactly what to do to exceed my expectations. I popped into Kolorbar a few nights ago to get a consult on fixing my color as well as a cut and blow out. I was matched up with Tanya who knew exactly what I wanted and I also had a photo for reference. I went today and absolutely loved the results! She blended out the color like I asked as well as did a beautiful job with the Bayalage. The staff were all very friendly and even upon walking in the hostess said "Are you ready for your transformation?" She was right! Tanya was also very fair with the price as we all know it's not cheap to get your hair done in NYC. I showed the photo to a ton of my friends and family and they all agreed that my hair looks fabulous! I will definitely be going back and recommending this salon. MEN - BEWARE. I am so disappointed. My husband stopped in for a haircut because he prefers salons to barbers and we pass by this place all of the time. It also has men's hair cut pricing advertised on the door, so you would think everyone there is proficient in men's hair cuts..... Honestly it was the worst haircut I've ever seen him get. There isn't one place on his head that is the same length. She then told him he might have to wear it "messy" - I'm assuming to cover up the unevenness. She didn't even take a look at his hair and how he wears it before it was washed. The worst part about all of it is she cut his neck about 5 times (see picture) he has a huge meeting on Wednesday with the president of his company and his neck is covered in huge scratches and His hair looks AWFUL. I found the salon on Groupon first. I came in for balayage highlights. I'm very picky as I just moved from Paris and usually get my hair done there. I'm SO glad I came because the overall prices of the salon are very reasonable, but more importantly than that is I found my stylist I'll be using for years. Nataline is a professional, her technique is what you would expect from a celebrity stylist that charges thousands, really.
