Tybee Island is around 30 minutes away in a cozy little coastal town. The rate to go in the lighthouse covers the lighthouse and their museum. We only had time for the lighthouse. The price is $12 for adults and $10 for children. Children 5 and under are free. I was surprised they allow children of all ages. Normally there is a height restriction. My youngest (4) was thrilled because he's always wanted to join on our family tradition but was too short or young. He did a excellent job along with our (8) year old and my husband walking up the 178 steps. This is the tallest lighthouse in Georgia and the climb is fairly easy in my opinion. There is a break at every 25 steps where you can look out a window or just take a breath and let people pass if needed. The view from above is beautiful. You can see the water. There is no staff member at the top and the staff do not spend long explaining the lighthouse but there are signs to read. Overall it was a good experience and it's a beautiful lighthouse. My favorite of the two coastal forts we visited on our trip…read more Fort Pulaski is in fine condition minus the damaged walls in certain locations where signs of battle are still visible. The ranger talk was particularly animated and informational. Fascinating that this was Robert E. Lee's first post after graduating from West Point as an assistant engineer, but he left before completion of this Third System fort. He returned as General Lee in 1860 and proclaimed, "Colonel, they will make it very warm for you with shells from that point but they cannot breach at that distance." But, due a new type of rifled cannon, it took only 30 hours for Confederate soldiers to surrender the fort. For the remainder of the war it primarily served as a staging post for soldiers entering and leaving the war as well as a jail. The location on Cockspur Island is rugged beautiful and you can look north towards Hilton Head Island. it is surrounded by a moat and there are many displays in the interior of the fort and you can walk all around the upper parapet to get lovely views of the area. There are several stairways to reach the upper level, but keep children in hand since there are no railings on the top (inside). As an aside, I had never heard of Casimir Pulaski, but he is the father of the American cavalry and everyone in Illinois is well acquainted because they honor him with a school holiday. To quote Lin Manuel Miranda, "Immigrants, they get the job done." There were many human touches still part of the fort, from hand and foot prints in the bricks to graffiti left by soldiers who lived here. Definitely a great spot to visit just outside of Savannah.

In their visitor center, they have a film that goes through the history of the fort. In the fort they have a gift stop and you can walk through the whole fort at your own leisure. Amazing time! Took the tour about a month and a half ago. Weather was perfect. Boat was awesome…read more Captain was fantastic...knew about everything and where everything was. We met him at a nice marina on Wilmington Island and he took us everywhere. Our favorite spot was the historic Daufuskie island. You can only get there by boat. It was about an hour long, super relaxing ride there. We all laid out on the front of the boat and caught some sun before arriving at this secluded island. Rented a golf cart and rode around with our drinks. Saw some great property, unique animals, super creepy burial grounds, and learned a ton of history from the natives. Marshside mamas had some delicious food and a live band. All around a wonderful time and not as expensive as you might think!

We did the sunset tour on a high tide and saw bird rockeries, dauphins riding in our boat wake. The oyster nursery was quite educational, and shucking and eating live oysters on the way back to the dock at the Crap Shack ended a perfect adventure. This trip offers far more than you can imagine.

Our trip was filled with a lot of rain, but we were so thankful to have a morning like this. The boat ride was magical. Captain Seth told us all about the area, the community, the wildlife and more. We enjoyed fresh pastries before heading further out. We got to explore a sandbar filled with pelicans and other majestic birds. We got to see dolphins---something Seth kept us out longer to make sure we got to experience. He dropped us off closer to a coffee shop and gave us tips on what to explore on Tybee. We were so thankful for this portion of our trip. I cannot suggest this enough. We were to glad we included this in our 3 day itinerary.

That's not bad considering the monies go towards the upkeep and some charitable endeavors, The turtles are cute to see in all sizes.... There's a room with various fossils. And there wasn't much in the touch tank -- a few different types of tiny hermit crabs. Other than that, there's a reproduction of a right whale they've adopted with some history about them. Downstairs they have a play area and an area for kids' activities, and one big turtle, by itself in a tank -- if you have the patience to watch it move from one of its corners. Accessibility-wise there are some challenges. A long wooden ramp entrance that is not covered and very hot. An elevator to get downstairs, but the doors to the car park exit were closed. And a loft area with something (not sure what) only accessible by stars, too. The kids there at the time we were there were mainly enjoying the playground.

Large pavilion with a number of picnic tables. We were here early but there seems to be beach food off to one side of pavilion. It's a shorter pier and make sure you are wearing shoes and the kids . It's been weathered by nature so you get the picture. Hopefully they'll be replacing some boards soon. There are bathrooms are on the pavilion area. Shops and restaurants are walking distance. My tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the house and even other movies filmed there. The tour started in the basement with stories about slave workers. The tour ends in the upstairs bedroom, learning about about Alida "Harper" Fowlkes. It you are interest in historic homes, definitely check out the Harper-Fowlkes House if you are in Savannah.
