We drove by this place on the main drag in south Asheville and decided to stop in. I loved that their menu offers items from multiple Asian countries, and quite honestly, had everything we wanted. We ordered at the counter (no wait) and then got a number. We found a booth as the place was energietic, but not completely full. I then explored the condiment bar, which again, had everything. Soy sauce, chili paste, chili oil, hot mustard...you name it! I love that you could get it all yourself. It's a win win for the customer and the business. No wasted condiments and you can have as much of what you like as you want without having to ask for it. We got Pho, Ramen, Spring Rolls, Crab Rangoons, and Curry. We're staying at a hotel close by and chose this place after looking for somewhere to get food delivered from. They're offering delivery though Grub Hub so we went with them. I ordered though Yelp and it was super easy and user friendly. Our food delivery window was around an hour and it came within the allotted time. First impression... no silverware or napkins. That's inconvenient, especially when you're in a hotel with no access to utensils or napkins. Our order was correct. All in all, the food was ok. My noodles (the spicy beef noodles) were good. I didn't care much for the broth and add ins though. The chicken fried rice was ok also. I will say, this place was very pricy. I didn't feel like I got our money's worth personally. read more

Four of us decided to try this new noodle house for some late night bites yesterday. It was fairly busy, on a Friday night - there were no patio tables available, but there was plenty of seating inside. We ordered at the counter, seated ourselves, and had our food in short order. I had the pho which was presented with the meat already in the broth (it would have been better if I had ordered the meat on the side so that it wasn't overdone, by the end of my meal). I also ordered a passion fruit bubble tea. The pho was tasty, the add-in's (bean sprouts, thai basil, jalapenos...) were fresh and plentiful. The bubble tea was disappointing - ordering it was confusing - the menu has the add-in's laid out strangely, and I wound up with something I did not want. It also seems to be made with a pre-sweetened liquid that does not taste like tea, and is cloyingly saccharine. My dining companions had the ramen, the fried rice, a vegetarian noodle dish, spring rolls and more bubble tea. Again, the bubble tea was ordered incorrectly, as the drink menu is very confusing, and one person's bubble tea arrived without the tapioca bubbles as a result. They also lamented the sweetness, and neither of us finished the drinks. The food was tasty. However... In Asheville, we are spoiled by restaurants using quality ingredients, and we forget to ask about additives when there are sensitivities. Although we enjoyed the food, two people in our party had reactions to MSG, after dining. We had plans to go for dessert after eating, and abandoned those plans to go home because two in our party were suffering the ill effects of the allergens (hives, watering eyes, excessive mucous production...not pretty.) Normally, restaurants that use a fair amount of MSG in their food preparation disclose their use with a sign near the register, and/or a note on the menu. We did not see anything listed, when ordering the pho, or the vegetarian noodle dish. Both dishes contained enough MSG to cause a reaction in two adults. read more

Lots of options! Lots of spice! If you don't like spicy be sure to say something when ordering. There are large soups, rice dishes and lots of noodles. Vegetarian option and gluten free options. This location used to be a Hardee's and this business has done an amazing job transforming it into a beautiful causal dinning room. The food is fast and good. Great for a quick lunch. My coworkers and I can in on their 3rd day of being open and the service was excellent. We were given some complimentary items which won us over on top of the good food. This place is good but the few times we've been there's just something missing... I will say it hits the spot after a late night with a few too many drinks. My honey and I most recently enjoyed the chicken curry noodles and garlic veggies. The chicken curry was great but it was basically a giant bowl of noodles. Seriously lacking the chicken and veggies. The garlic veggies were okay, but the sauce was way too watery. We always get an order of scallion pancakes, you can't really mess these up. And an order of potstickers, you also can't really mess up these. The sauce they service is AMAZING! Was super excited when I saw Typhoon Noodle was opening up quite close to home and finally had the opportunity to stop in with my roommate's last night. It's a fast casual restaurant (i.e. very much like Panera or Chipotle) with lots of recognizable asian food, like pad thai, udon noodles, chicken fried rice, crab rangoon, etc. They also have some bubble tea options. As a vegan, I knew I'd be find with most of the vegetarian dishes, so I ordered the Scallion Pancake and the Udon Noodles with Tofu. Scallion Pancake was good but not great, having only been fried on one side (bottom side was not crispy like the top) and coming out lukewarm and cut in pizza slices. Having come back recently from Taiwan where Scallion Pancakes are a common breakfast item, i had a different expectation that was not met, specifically around the cooking procedure. Taste was similar, but again not as good. Udon Noodles were lovely, perfect amount of sauce, good healthy portion size. The meal overall left me full. Customer service was where I had the biggest issue. The individual taking my order, after I asked if there was fish sauce in the noodle dishes (something added to a lot of asian dishes that are vegetable based, but which was not on these ones) said "I don't know." Then we looked at each other for a few seconds before she said "I can go ask though." I hate to say it, but sometimes I feel the need to lie and say it's an allergen for people to take my inquiries seriously. Additionally, when you order you're given a number on a plastic card that you place in a card stand at your table. We had two separate numbers (because my roommates and I paid separately) but soon after we sat down one of our numbers got snatched up. When we asked a runner, she said she thought the last party had left their number there, assuming instead of inquiring. A small issue, but one that can be avoided nonetheless. read more

First of all, don't be scared away because they're understaffed, because right now it seems all of Asheville is understaffed. They were fast, courteous, and attentive to details. This restaurant has done a great job supplying food and staying open during the COVID pandemic. Their website is mostly up to date and easy to order through. You have to go to the drive thru to pick up your food - which is a great way to enforce social distancing. The sesame chicken is overly breaded and basic, but exactly what you expect when you order sesame chicken. The curry noodles with shrimp were well seasoned and flavorful. I had been craving noodles for a few days now and I knew I had to try this place. I got the Lo Mein with tofu, spring rolls, and probably the yummiest bubble tea I've ever had. The woman who helped me with my order suggested the "Coffee Bubble Tea with Tapioca pearls" and wow! My food came out pretty quick and very hot. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm always on the hunt for some good tofu. My spring rolls were crispy and had a strange (but good!) sauce in them. This place is very meh...overpriced for no reason. I ordered a bubble tea with the salted cream foam and I'm pretty sure it topped with whipped cream you'd get out of a canister with a bunch of salt on top. Not good at all, especially for the price I wasn't impressed. No way to modify your order to get noodles instead of rice which makes no sense because noodle is in their name. There are seats inside but you can also call ahead for a drive thru option which is something I haven't seen before. I got the lo mein with mixed veggies and tofu- good, except the tofu was fried (I was expecting steamed) so not quite what I was craving. The rest of the group got the ginger salad and chicken skewers (recommended), an order of fried rice (very plain- not my recommendation), and the spicy scallion chicken (which was good but not spicy in my opinion). You guys are doing so well during COVID-19 with safety, friendliness, and timely orders. Get the Scallion Chicken (spicy level 3 or Thai spicy) with fried rice for an $2 extra. It's like $12 for so much food. I always have seconds. I usually get an order of Crab Rangoon (4 count) because it's exactly what I'm looking for in Asian cuisine. Moved here a year ago, but I just started eating at Typhoon. I think I'll branch out to some other menu items so I can get a variety of flavors. I have to say that I'm surprised by all the positive reviews here after my experience. My experience was absolutely horrible! I think the food was very overpriced for what appears to be reheated food. The only "flavor" that I would say I tasted was salt, no real seasonings. The dumplings were soggy and floppy and the insides were grey colored and cold and mushy. I tried a ramen bowl and it was seriously like salt soup. I didn't even eat more than a couple of bites before I got up and threw my whole meal in the garbage. Lesson learned for me and to be honest I won't take the chance and come back despite the other positive reviews here. Wish I had some photos to add but didn't bother at the time. read more

Where to begin with this terrible, overpriced restaurant? First, it is in an ancient Hardees, which was not renovated. You go up to the Hardees counter and order an exorbitantly priced, flavorless noodle dish, but you half expect to see a burger on the menu and maybe fries, because it's still a Hardees after all. Then you go sit at a Hardees booth, where said noodle dish will be delivered at almost record speed. All the food is brown, the flavor is bland bordering on tasting like nothing at all, but if brown is also a flavor it's that one. The people who work there seem to be nice and eager to please, but what an ill-conceived terrible restaurant. Plus, you have to drive into the hellscape that is South Asheville to dine here, which would give me pause even if the food were not awful, but in case I haven't been clear it's awful and this place should be avoided. read more

You get what you pay for. Service is fast, not always friendly. The food is good and comes out quickly and nice and hot. Flavors tend to be generic across the dishes and a little bland. Really enjoy the ginger salad but usually served with too much dressing so get it on the side. Pad Thai, noodle dishes tend to have too much oil, so ask to go light on those. I love the wok fried noodle dishes. We always get the lo mein and chow fun. I have also tried the udon which was good as well. The crab rangoons are some of the best I have tried and the wonton soup is perfect. The broth is seasoned well and flavorful. I have one complaint unfortunately. The last time we ordered from them the beef was extremely chewy. I had to throw half of it away. I just chalked it up to a bad batch. Hopefully the quality next time is better. Ended up ordering from typhoon Noodle after finding several of our favorite Thai restaurants were closed between lunch and 5:00 p.m. dinner. We will now add this to our favorite list as well. Number two heat on our pad Thai orders was hot enough but not overwhelming. Take out ordering was a snap and so was paying and receiving the order at the drive-up window. Ashevillians bemoan the lack of good Chinese restaurants almost as much as they complain about the rainfall and crappy Florida drivers. There aren't many good options unless your preferred style is deep-fried chicken in syrupy sweet technicolor sauces or hipster rice bowls drowning in jarred black bean sauce. Typhoon Noodle aspires to be the answer, but I don't think it's there yet. It has a pan-Asian menu, meaning the dishes landing tableside are just are likely to be curried Singapore noodles, Japanese ramen, Thai curry, or Vietnames pho, as Sichuan jing jing noodles, Cantonese chow fun, "sesame chicken" or wonton soup. Appetizers and sides run the gamut from lettuce wraps, spring rolls, and crab rangoon to seaweed salad, edamame, and ginger salad. It's hard to pull off this variety of cuisines 100% successfully, and Typhoon Noodle doesn't quite get there. On this, our first visit, we ordered spring rolls, which were stuffed with a bland, mushy cabbage and cellophane noodles. The two greasy-ish pieces were served with a non-descript sweetish yellow dipping/duck sauce. For me these were right up there with PF Chang frozen egg rolls (translation: not good). I expected a stronger showing with two native Chinese chef-owners running the line. For mains, we both went for the eponymous noodle bowls. Hubby quite enjoyed his jing jing noodles topped with savory, spicy pork sauce and tendercrisp jullienned vegetables. My beef chow fun noodles were less successful. My biggest complaint is they lacked wok hey - that delicious char and smoky flavor produced by stir-frying noodles in a wicked hot wok. These really didn't have any, so the flavor and texture were one-dimensional. The brown sauce was a little bit too sweet. This was also the first time I've had scrambled egg, carrot, bell pepper, or zucchini in beef chow fun, and I can't say they enhanced the dish. It was just OK - I wouldn't order this dish again. If we'd only ordered the jing jing noodles and not the lousy spring rolls and so-so chow fun, I'd probably have given Typhoon Noodle 4 stars. There's a lot to like here. As a condiment addict, I appreciate the plentiful options at the sauce bar. The garlicky homemade chili crisp oil is excellent. At $10-12/main dish, this is not a cheap meal, but you're not paying another 20% for full table service, either (do tip your cashier though!). Judging from the wide-ranging menu and the counter service, Typhoon Noodle is targeting the lunch crowd. Based on the high turnover we saw at tables, 30 days in, they're doing quite well. I wish them luck and will try to stop in again for another bite to try more of the menu next time we're on Hendersonville Road. read more

Love this place and all of it's options. Hardest part was trying to choose a dish because of all the options. Most of the time that is a bad thing. Normally like a restaurant to stick to a couple things and do those couple of things really well. Everything we tried though was really good and can't wait to go back and try something new. This place has a ton of seating (indoor and outdoor) and the food came out pretty quick. There was a mix up on one of our dishes that didn't get rang up and they brought it out to us anyways. Asked to pay for it and was told no worries we will just bring it out to you. Also the boba tea options were great. Love how they offer different sweetness levels. Love Thai tea but sometimes it is made wayyy too sweet. Half sweet made it much better (still a little sweet but much better than about 90% of all teas I've had). read more

Has potential and is a big step up from the Hardee's it replaced, but they have some lessons to learn. Positives: Cashiers are friendly and engaging. I've had Pad Thai twice. It's a little oily, certainly not the best I've had, but acceptable for the price. Food is served on proper tableware, relatively little paper/plastic waste. Decor is pleasant and outdoor seating appreciated. Opportunities: Red curry was watery, not bad, but I would have preferred a creamier sauce. I echo other suggestions that they could benefit by offering fewer menu items in exchange for raising the overall quality. When you pay by card, you are presented with tip options, 15%, 20%, 25%, other, not so subtly suggesting 15% is a minimum expectation. So what service did I receive for my 15%? I ordered the food at the counter and I was asked to bus my own table. When my order was ready, a server placed my food on the table, turned around, and left - no recognition that I had no silverware or napkins, no smile or query whether I needed anything else. So I suppose I was tipping the cooks and dishwashers! Servers need some training. If they carried some flatware and napkins in their aprons and smiled and treated their customers as guests, it would go a long way toward improving the overall impression. Customers who feel acknowledged and appreciated are more likely to enjoy their experience and be more forgiving of less than premium food. I'm afraid the lukewarm ratings this restaurant has received thus far will make it tough to compete in the ultra-competitive Asheville market. But if they read these reviews and take the lessons to heart, I believe they can still flourish. read more

A drive thru only for food pickup?! No indoor seating and you can't even go inside to pick it up. The entire parking lot gets wrapped around with cars because the single drive thru kiosk takes FOREVER. Cars were all over the place. Blocking parked cars, blocking intersections, blocking stop signs. Pure chaos. I am shocked the Asheville police department is allowing this. Be ready to wait 15 to 30 minutes in the drive thru. read more
