DO NOT come to this place. When I showed up to pick up the U-Haul I noticed that all their gas caps were all off, first red flag Then, I turned on the truck and gas was basically empty on E. I told them about it, then they began to tell me that they already had put a little bit of gas and that they tend to steal their gas during the night", and they weren't going to put more gas; that I had to put the rest of it. When technically they're supposed to give you 1/4 of a tank AT LEAST. Like excuse me , that's a company problem, not a customer problem. I'm surprised they're still open with that service. Made me waste my gas & time. Anyways, I asked for a refund immediately I went to a better location on curtner. read more

Van hard to use for older person! 5 stars for the shop, but 0 stars for the van!! Service was great. Getting and returning the van was painless and quick. The van served its purpose, but it was awful to drive--not mechanical issue, just rattling and noisy and accelerator was difficult to get used to: it would take off quickly without my foot on the gas, but when I put my foot on the gas, it wasn't smooth and I had to push it in a ways to get up above 20. It was helpful that the shop allowed me to park my car there while I had the van out for the day. Location was close to both starting point and destination. The night-time drop box for keys was also really helpful. On the advice of a friend I also bought moving boxes (10 small ~1.5'x1.5'x2'=~$15) and packing tape (brown paper-looking but really strong and smooth-highly recommend!, large roll ~$6) there and both were superior to what my company gave me to move worksites and fairly cheap. I'll definitely buy the tape again for all moving/shipping purposes! My biggest complaint is that the description of the van, and the clerk verbalized this too, said "low entry" or something like that that meant that it was easy to get items into the van without a ramp. In fact it was quite high!! I had a tall mini-fridge that was my main concern, and the lowest point of the van was about as tall as the fridge, about 3-4 feet!! I also had such a hard time getting myself up into the drivers seat! I'm a 58-year-old woman with not weak but not strong upper body strength, and I really struggled to get up and out of the cab! Then when I started to put stuff in the back, I realized it would be nearly impossible for me to climb in there, especially without handholds!! This should be stated, or better, rent steps or something to help us older, weaker people out!! I was lucky I had a young person helping or I would have never accomplished it! When I first got the van, I noticed the back end was high and NOT LOW, so I immediately went back to change it for a truck with a ramp, but then when I tried to get into the drivers seat of the truck, I absolutely couldn't!! So I went immediately back and exchanged it back for the van, thinking that would be much lower but it wasn't by much!! Getting the mini-fridge in turned out to be the least of my problems! Based on this experience, when I need to move again, I will either NOT take stuff that doesn't fit in my car, move everything myself by car, or hire movers, but I WILL NOT be driving a U-Haul truck myself again unless you make the drivers seat and back end easier to get into! read more

The day I drive home I hear a whopping noise. Turns out the "professionals" ran an extra 7 feet of wire through my steering arm. The steering arm cut through the wire and it wrapped around my axle and ripped the wiring harnesses off in both directions including where it was attached to the vehicle electronics. I notified uhauls customer service and explained the issue and sent photos. The agent told me that they would contact the instal location to see how to proceed. I'm told I'll recurve a call back from the manager within two days. I do not. Several days later I get a call from an assistant telling me to bring the car in. Uh no thank you. I don't plan to spend 4-6 more hours so that you can do more damage to my car and ask for a refund so that I can go elsewhere to repair the damage. The assistant tells me he'll ask the manager and her back to. me within a few days. Several days later the manager calls to say that he won't do that. His only offer is for me to drive 40 miles to his shop to remove everything, not fix the damage, and refund the amount paid. What? So begins a saga of calling their corporate customer service department to get this resolved. After literally dozens of phone calls taking from 20-60 minutes each I got nowhere. Uhaul agreed that they screwed up but they kept saying that they can not refund it had to come from the install shop. After several weeks an insurance adjuster from uhaul calls and tells me to forget about uhaul and take the car to a competitor to have everything repaired. I do this and send in the requested documentation and guess what. Four months later I still have no check and he hadn't returned my calls. This location is a joke. Uhaul customer service is a joke. It wasn't until I contested my credit card change and didn't dozens of hours on the phone before I got a refund. Still waiting on a check for the damage though. read more

We appreciated that they called us 15 minutes before we needed to pick up the van saying that they wouldn't have the size for us but willing to let us have the larger size at the same rate which was awesome. Luckily when we were there, two trucks came which was the size we wanted. Feel free to negotiate the mileage rate as they might be willing to lower it if you're lucky. When my husband went outside he could nt find ford cargo van instead he found old truck. He went back inside and asked that couple of times he asked for ford cargo van . Front desk who appear to be Amy started getting rude and saying that is what we have take it or leave it. They asked my husband to return the key and canceled contract and asked him to leave. Very bad experience with the employees here today 12/14/2019. My elderly mother had accidentally left her IPad in one of the rentals. We called the store and they said they didn't have it. I drove down to this store and both the Asian woman and Hispanic male were both playing dumb as if they had no idea. They were looking all around the store with the look of "Guilt " & told me to come back at 7pm & I went back to store before 7pm and all lights were off and door shut. This was a pretty smooth experience and I recommended booking online and using U Haul mobile. It's a pretty easy process and you really save yourself from having to wait in line. When you start you select the size of truck you want and then enter all the information requested. I was able to rent mine with no upfront charge. On the day of your rental you'll need to provide them with a verification of your ID, for me the options were a passport, a bill or a work phone number that can verify your identity. There is a lock box where they will place your key and once you finish all the verification they will send you the combination to retrieve your key. You physically verify the condition of the U Haul, the gas and the mileage. If everything looks good then you are good to go. The return process is also pretty easy. If you return it after hours they have a return key slot. You just have to take a few pictures to verify cleanliness, mileage and fuel. It took me about five minutes and I was done. It seemed like the people who walked in had to wait longer and there was a steady flow of people . This location does not have a lot of space and I was lucky enough to find a parking spot for my car but there is definitely a lack of space on the lot. The ladies who worked there seemed a little busy but they were nice to me. I wouldn't mind rent a U haul from this location again but online is definitely the way to go. read more

I was charged a lot more at this location than I had been quoted at the Curtner location for the same work (mounting a hitch with the harness) and the GM was super rude to me on the phone and I had to waste a lot of time accomodating his demands instead of just making things easy for me. read more

I needed a U-Haul for my move to Milpitas. I noticed this location was here when I'm on my way to Costco or driving on Tully Road. I reserved a cargo mini van online for my move. The price for the day was $19.95 plus mileage/fees. When my brother and I arrived, we registered at the front desk. They had the cargo van ready and parked in the front of the store. The cargo van was clean and had no bad odor or smell. The cargo van was pretty big and was enough to add a mattress, TV, small furniture, etc. We made it back within 3-4 hours to return the van. Driving from San Jose to Milpitas only cost me around $60, which was a pretty good deal. When I got home, I noticed I forgot to take my condo parking permit from the cargo van. When I called, they told me the cargo van was already taken by another customer for rental. Once it's return, they can get it for me. I was kind of worried and hopefully they don't take it. After 5 hours, they called me and found the parking permit. I was glad and thank them for their great service! read more

First thing in the morning and the guy was angry and agitated. Not sure why - I was there to leave my car and get the hitch installed. The hitch guy was missing and was not there at the time of appointment. 8AM was appointment and he told that he would be there by 8:30/8:45AM. Better to opt for other location I believe. Please note - this place has not place to sit, so if you are planning to get your hitch installed - you are at the mercy of staff to get it done in time - as they don't have the incentive to get it done on time. read more

So bs I come here to get my propane refilled for my forklift all the time. I literally got it refilled last month. I know it's an expired tank, but I've never had issues refilling it. They always did it anyways. The short haired Mexican dude is so rude and unprofessional. He literally refilled my tank a little over a month ago and he lied about not refilling it. He said that he has never seen my tank before. I then told him that the bald black dude refilled it a couple months ago too and he replied saying that there's no black dude that has worked here in years. DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANY REASON. A TOTAL RIP OFF JOINT. I had been quoted a price to de install a trailer hitch(bought at U Haul) and reinstall it on an identical cargo van. When I got there the manager Minh looked me straight in the eye and DOUBLED the quote. The job involved removing six bolts,moving the trailer hitch to the other van and reconnecting four wires. He refused to do it and claimed it would take an hour to remove the hitch and an hour to reinstall it. My son and I eventually did it in 45 minutes. My son and I lost 3 hours of work for this. Don't think a quote you get from their corporate office is worth anything. They have you as a captive audience and will make up any excuse to charge you more and look you straight in the eye while doing it. STAY AWAY from this location!!! read more

So much confusion -- I tried finding this place on Yelp, but it wasn't listed. Instead, UHaul of Milpitas kept coming up and it was the wrong address. Urgh. Anyway, this location has surpassed any of the other UHauls I've ever used, or any other place. I've moved so much in the past 20 years and when corporate moves were not going to do the move for us, we would do it ourselves. Let me say that this place is amazing. It's on the border of Milpitas and San Jose. Literally -- across the street where the Shell station is is Milpitas. This rests right on the cusp, but on the San Jose side. It even sports a San Jose zip. I've used this place off and on in the past 20 years -- trucks for Ikea trips, various shopping trips and each time I've been here the guys that have worked here have been nothing short of courteous and friendly, in spite of some shoddy customers who think it's ok to yell and scream at people. I know moving is stressful...no need to be a jerk. This last round I just needed boxes. I got a total of 8 and I did not expect anyone to help me carry the unassembled boxes. I was planning on bringing my car around and doing it myself. Lo and behold...one of the guys picked up my stuff and carried it to my car without even asking. He gave me the whole spiel about what to do with the extra boxes, but I knew I was probably going to be purchasing more on my next trip back. We were looking for a wiring to put on our truck so we can pull, we waited in line for over 20 min and while waiting in line we over heard a couple conversations where the employees don't have the correct info on the computer and giving the clients different information!! We asked an employee for a cable that we were looking for and kinda gave us a cold shoulder not wanting to answer my husband question. So we ended up leaving. This Uhaul is one of the best out there. Walked in asking about a trailer nothing too crazy to haul since it's my first time and I was helping move big furniture. Edwin was the most helpful and knowledgeable associate there. He helped me from the start till the end. It was like a 100 degrees outside and wasn't getting angry irritated nor annoyed even tho I was a beginner in trailers. Cc corporate uhaul!! I reserved a 26' truck for Saturday the 20th. On Friday night the 19th I get a phone call saying they can not give me the truck I reserved weeks ago. My only option was a smaller truck in Fresno I was forced to drive to Fresno pick up a 22' Friday night, drive it back to San Jose that night. Then Saturday move what in souls fit in the truck, which was not my full house! Uhaul did reduce the rate but with gas back and forth it ended up costing the same and I don't have my house fully moved!. I still need to move a truck load and no truck, they did not offer to help nor return my $. Why do u reserve a truck and take the reservation but not hold the reservation? Rented a $19.99 10' U-Haul mini-mover... it was crappy, old skool pickup truck front end.... but boy did it haul. The driver door closed crooked, luckily it stopped raining. I could hear the wind howling through the crack. Driving over 65mph, the engine hood would bounce... in other words, if i drove faster, I might get face full of hood. I slowed down. The bench seats felt like springs... ok... they were springs, all the cushion either (a) rotted out, or (b) some hobo used it for warmth. Oh... good thing the mechanic mentioned the brakes before leaving... he said "the brakes are touchy at first but eases up afterwards"... so as I left, the street still empty, I braked... yup... the brakes locked up. Good thing I was only doing 5 mph. It didn't help the road was slick at the time. Eh... you get use to it. No harm, no foul, everything went smooth, slow going, but smooth. IT was actually easy to parallel park, I parked it perfectly in one shot. I think a one-day rental w/ miles was under $80; my friend settled the bill, wasn't my stuff, I was the wheelman and muscle. read more

I dread renting equipment but sometimes you have no choice. I'm going to say the 1 star reservations process and the 4 star equipment performance came out to about a 3 star experience. First of all, lets be clear: no one anywhere in the entire organization knows s**t about cars. That's not a problem if you already do. If you don't, proceed with caution and don't expect too much advice. Trying to rent an auto transport (car trailer) over the phone was like playing battleship - "What are you towing?... A 1972 Dodge Challenger... Oh, that car doesn't say it will fit the trailer, what other car can I try?" We did this for ten minutes before the person I was talking to just asked me to go online and make the reservation with any combination of lies I could put into their nonfunctional vehicle towing compatibility calculator. The person I spoke with even told me the car was too heavy, and that the trailer had a 6000lb weight limit. As in roughly the weight of a Chevy Tahoe, or almost TWO of my car. It turned out the trailer had a total weight potential of 6000lbs, a 2000lb chassis with a 4000lb capacity. I could go on and on about the rest of it, but I'll give you the short version. I made the reservation online. The confirmation they sent me showed Hayward Ca (45 minutes away) instead of San Jose. I called the number on the confirmation, got transferred 3 times only to be told the Oakland rd location "didn't have the equipment I requested." I hung up, called the Oakland rd location directly and they reserved the trailer for me once I provided the confirmation number (proving I had successfully lied my way through the online towing vehicle calculator) right away. Yes, they did have the equipment I needed, Numbnuts. The trailer itself performed flawlessly, was newer and in very good condition. The guy who hooked it up when I got there did a great job and also turned out to be a Valentino Rossi fan, which makes us sorta like family. The moral to my Yelp is DEAL DIRECTLY WITH THE LOCATION and you'll get somewhere. Very impressed with the acoomodating services here at Uhaul. I needed an auto transport trailer Last minute, and was able to conveniently arrange one within a few hours through the Online services. When I came to pick up the trailer the staff was friendly, and helped me hook it up on my truck. . . the only problem was that i got a speeding tickets while i was attempting to get the trailer back in time. . . oops. not their fault though, definitely my bad. What an incredible U-Haul experience! If you are like me, you have endured rude staff, trucks that are not ready when you reserve them, filthy offices, and ridiculous examples of 'service'. The staff at U-Haul Oakland Road completely changed my opinion of U-Haul. Staff greeted me, (amazing!), the truck was ready, (more amazing), and they were responsive to my high need sense of hurry without complaint, (awesome). The office is clean, the check in and out is incredibly efficient, and the truck was in fantastic condition. If you hate U-Haul, find moving heinous as I do, and dread the experience, fear no more! Pretty good service. Online system doesn't actually reserve your boxes though if you order on there. So, call the location before you go in to make sure they have want you need. I rented a van so I could pick up and antique bed in Woodbridge. I reserved it online, got there at 4;00pm, and there were two customers in front of me. It was only a five minute wait. The guy at the register was super fast, efficient and friendly. I was on my way in no time. It ended up costing me more then I was expecting, but I was driving a long distance and they were upfront about the price. The van was in good condition...a little on the bumpy side, but the brakes worked fine and so did the radio. I will definitely go to them in the future...or fine some guy with a truck. read more

Had no glaring issues when I used them. Did an on-line reservation and when I went to pick up the truck, they had paperwork ready quickly. The staff was fast and had my truck ready outside. When looking at the mileage and fuel, make sure it matches the paper so you don't have any discrepancies when returning the truck. When getting a u-haul, I don't expect the car to be in tip top condition. I mean, people use these things for moving and hauling and there will almost always be dings and scratches and people will drive it like they stole it. As long as it is maintained and AC works, I'm good. The issue I had with the car was that the alignment must've been off. I had to keep my steering wheel slightly to the left in order to stay straight. To me, not really a big deal since I wasn't going far and not going fast. Packed up my stuff in the truck and it got everything over with no problems. Also, if you're going to get a truck here, have someone drop you off. There is very limited parking and if you aren't the first ones there, you probably won't have a place to park your car. read more

I went to the Tully Rd. location on Sunday, May 26th to get some propane tanks filled. There were two females who were working at the time and it did not seem it was very busy. I was the second person in line waiting for help and the first female loudly proclaimed that she was working on issue after issue and that we would just have to wait. OK. I understand it's a holiday weekend and issues happen. She left for about ten minutes before she came back and finally started helping the guy in front of me. The second female employee comes trudging in a few minutes later and plops down on a chair and asks if I need help. I asked if she could help with propane filling and she lowered her head, LOUDLY sighed, and mumbled that she would meet me in the back. This was my first time renting a U-Haul and it was so easy! I downloaded the U-Haul app and completed all the steps and selected the day I needed the truck. When I arrived at 9 am I walked up to desk and was greeted instantly by Sergio. He gave me all the paperwork to sign and explained everything I needed to know. I signed everything and within 10 minutes I had the keys and was off the lot. The U-Haul truck ran perfect and was extremely clean! The return process was just as simple. Had the most horrible experience at this place. Had taken a one day rental and did not notice the 4:00 PM on the contract as the return time. I returned at 5:30 PM and was surprised they charged me extra one day for both truck and the dolly I had rented. I was upset at the counter, but wait, here is the start of total weirdness. The guy at the counter was a person named Nick Burton and he was most abusive person I have ever met. I was upset and wanted to see the manager and Mr.Nick started a tirade of abuses. He refused to give me the receipt and almost shunted me out of the door. Then came the classic. I was standing outside the door (my mind shocked by the "service" i received) and this guy comes out and says " If you don't have anything to do, you can leave" and that was said not in a pleasant manner In my line of work, anyone who talks to a customer like that will get fired, no questions asked. But I guess U-Haul can survive with such people. My calls to customer service in San Jose or corporate has not helped. Never received a call back from them or even a apology.
