My recent experience with Capitol Ford began last week when we test drove a used Ford, the car was not ready to be driven as it has been in past experiences with test driving a vehicle. This a pink flag, not quite red yet. Then when we went inside to consider our options, Angelo was going to run my credit with asking and we only knew when my husband asked what he was doing, so my husband immediately said no. Then I found a a car I wanted to purchase and was in touch with Angelo again to come in on Sunday after he told me to come see the car. When we arrived, a completely different salesmen had to tell Angelo that the car was not even on the lot, but that it had been given out as a loaner and had been gone for 4 days, Angelo had no clue. This was extremely disappointing and after reading other reviews, it seems this has been the same experience for many people, it's just BAD BUSINESS. In the mean time sales managers from the dealership had been keeping me updated by texting me, first asking how they can get my business on the Ford Explorer I looked at( didn't look at an Explorer), then corrected to the car I was going to see, then later that day I get another text saying "Hi Peggy....were gonna get the car back tonight" (my name is not Peggy). I let them know they weren't speaking to Peggy, they had a long day. These things may seem insignificant to some but I've been a part of others car buying processes and these are not professional interactions and are somewhat off putting. But I still wanted to buy this used vehicle so I put it out of my mind, hoping for better. Hopes be damned. They got the car back in a day later, washed it and I arranged to come see it . I went fully prepared to buy the car based on the "out the door" price I discussed with Angelo and including a slightly lowered price which he "talked with his boss" about. When we sat down to sign papers we were presented with a completely different price, that they weren't willing to move on even with us showing the the prices that Angelo said he talked with his boss about. When the manager came over he put a paper in front of us in a very matter of fact way that showed other fees (ok, fine) and a fee NOT listed on their website or ever mentioned face to face, a "Dealer Installed equipment Fee" for $795. They couldn't even tell us what they fee was or what they installed on the USED car I was going to buy. It's a vague fee that they said is on every car. It was clear they were not going to work with us even though the price miscommunication was on their end and was due to unprofessional practices and lack of transparency. I'm always honest and tell it how it is. I wait a few months to see how things go post purchase, to gauge the total experience. Shopped around regionally for a new F150 to replace my Lemoned 2023 Ram 2500. To say I wasn't thrilled to be shopping again is an understatement. I knew the price I wanted to be at, as well as how low other dealers were going on similarly optioned models. Contacted the dealer and started to negotiate via text with Dale (great communication) to see if this dealer would be worth my time. I ended up driving an hour to the dealer a few days earlier than planned and started the process with Edgar (very nice, professional, and a good sense of humor). I recommend everyone start their process with him. MVP! The only part that rubbed me wrong (hence 4 star) was the demeanor and a few things said by another employee while negotiating. That was reflected in my after purchase survey and rectified by their stud of a Sales VP Scott! (I still owe you that tequila). 4 months and 10k miles later I'm mostly satisfied with my purchase. I had 1 "break down" around 3k miles due to software issues (no fault of the dealer) that resulted in a tow and 5 days out of service. Normally I'd understand new cars having quirks, but after my 2023 Cummins needed a new motor at 6,000 miles it definitely struck a nerve. That said, Dale, Edgar, and especially Scott are class acts. After driving over two hours to pick up my new to me truck and going over pricing with my sales person, Capitol Ford pre-installed VIN etching on the vehicle and then presented it as a mandatory charge during pricing, even though it was not clearly advertised upfront. The finance manager specifically stated the etching was already installed on the car and could not be removed. However, after getting home and inspecting the vehicle, there was no VIN etching sticker or indication that the product had actually been installed. Under FTC CARS Rule transparency requirements, mandatory add-ons should be included in the advertised price -- not added later at the dealership. This felt misleading and deceptive. The only reason I kept the car is because I know I won't find another one like it and it was not my sales persons fault, she was great. Bought a brand new car and after signing all the paperwork they suddenly discovered they "lost" the key. They offered to mail it to us when they found it, but over a month later and that hasn't happened. So we're stuck with just one key for a car that should have come with two. They offered to make a new key for us, but only if we came by on a specific weekday in a one hour window. Absolutely not they tried to do me dirty today ! I took my car to Chevy down the street to have a sensor fitted. While there Chevy also did some diagnostics work and gave me a quote. I then had to go to Ford for a recall issue to be sorted. While at ford they also ran a diagnostic which came back completely different from Chevy's . Chevy's report had told me that two of my tyres needed replacing and brake pads. Ford's report was completely different it said everything was great no work needed and everything had been given a green mark. I questioned the ford employee and he said Chevy were wrong Obviously I was super pissed and I went back to Chevy to ask they why the two reports were polar opposite! Chevy then proceeded to show me each result manually and Chevy were completely right ! What an awful experience. All sales staff we encountered were untruthful and hostile. I went to check out a used car from their lot with a friend, about a week ago. The car had several sizeable dents and scratches that were completely unmentioned. They did not budge on the price one cent after explicitly assuring we could negotiate "in the hundreds, not thousands" just beforehand. We were offered 9.7% APR in the salesroom. This was promptly changed to about 15% once they handed over the final paperwork, with a sorry excuse about mistaken rental records. They stood by this bait and switch until we showed photos taken of the original offer sheet. When I urged my friend to think over the purchase, the salesman became visibly angry and tried to talk over me. He threatened to not offer the same APR / sales price the next day, which was quickly corrected by the financier. (Who was aggressively blocking the exit.) The sales person that helped me out was super friendly and I test drove one that I liked but didn't love. I brought my vehicle to Capital Ford because the transmission -- which this dealership had already replaced twice -- was leaking again after just 9 months. I drove two hours to this location as I was told they had six technicians who specialize in hybrid transmissions and that they would be able to get to it faster than other locations, quoting me a two-day diagnostic turnaround. However, once I arrived, I was told otherwise-- that they might have my car for up to a month and wouldn't even be able to diagnose it for at least a week and that the repair might not be covered. I expected this to be a straightforward process since the repair should be covered under Ford's 12-month/12,000-mile warranty, but instead I was met with conflicting and inaccurate information. *****Disclosure: I would be lying if I stated I was calm, cool, and collected during this entire interaction. All patience and understanding went out the door when I was told multiple different answers to the same questions on the same day within the same hour. .******** After checking in, I asked to speak with the service manager to get clarity. Service manager stated the repair I came in for would not be covered because it was supposedly paid out of pocket by the previous owners. Moments later, he changed his story and admitted Ford had paid for the repair -- but still refused to confirm warranty coverage. I ended up calling Ford Customer Relations back from the waiting area, and again they confirmed the transmission should be covered. ****For the record, there is no relationship between warranty coverage and the owner of the vehicle -- the warranty applies to the part/repair itself.***** All I wanted was a straight answer: is the transmission itself covered? Instead, the service manager went in circles, saying he wouldn't know until a $299.99 diagnostic was performed, and made it sound like I'd be responsible if they determined it was "something else." Not only is this misleading, it also showed a lack of understanding of Ford's own warranty policies. To make matters worse, the service manager dismissed my concerns by saying my 2014 vehicle was "old" and that a car this old doesn't have or come with a warranty. That excuse doesn't hold up when the transmission itself is less than a year old. Warranties cover the repair and part regardless of the vehicle's age. He even went so far as to gaslight me by suggesting that "something could have happened" between December 2024 and now -- within only 10,000 miles -- to cause the issue. That's just ridiculous. If a transmission has to be replaced twice at the same dealership and is already leaking again, that points to questionable workmanship, not the age of the car or the driver. At the end of our conversation, the service manager even said that "Ford Customer Relations will say anything to get the customer off the phone." Even if that were true, it is completely unprofessional and immature to dismiss the company's own corporate support team just because I questioned the validity of what he was telling me. I ended up leaving and going to another Ford dealership closer to home, where the staff were professional, respectful, and immediately followed the correct process. I'm sure this dealership will respond and try to disagree with my review, but the facts speak for themselves: a transmission replaced twice, with the most recent one failing after only 9 months, should be enough to make anyone think twice. Since my son lives in Southern CA, and the truck was in the San Jose area, he asked me to look into selling it. I approached Capitol Ford, and I was connected with T'erra. She was sensitive to our situation and the fact that there was still an emotional connection to the vehicle for my son. She guided us through the process of transferring the title on the pink slip and even made it possible for my son to sign off on documents remotely. She was extremely patient and never pressured us at any point. She also went above and beyond and helped us transport the truck to Capitol Ford since I was recovering from surgery and couldn't drive. I am so grateful for T'erra's professionalism and kindness during an emotionally challenging time for us. Additionally, years ago I switched to using Capitol Ford service on my older Ford SUVs when local independent repair shops were unable to fix issues on the vehicles. Their pricing is fair. They will flat out lie to you to get you to buy. Be weary and don't believe a single promise or confirmation from them. Verify your paperwork. Bought a used F-150. Truck was advertised on DGDG.com as "Gold Certified" and this was also confirmed by the Sr. Sales Manager Stephen Minchell in person to my wife, myself, and the sales person Andrew. Perfect, I moved on with the purchase and paid in cash. They ran my credit, which I didn't like and didn't make sense since I was paying cash, but they said it was absolutely necessary. Finance Manager John Basir, a slimy guy, was agitated I didn't want to purchase his add-ons as the truck was "Gold Certified" which was good enough for me. To try to get me to buy the add-ons, he told me had zero confidence in their used cars which seemed real, real shady. Signing the papers, he ensured me my vehicle was "Gold Certified" when I asked about for clarification on the certification paperwork and he said everything will be there in the paperwork. All docs were provided via USB drive. No indication of Gold Certified for the truck, only Blue Certified. I followed up with the dealership, Andrew confirmed he heard everything, but Stephen Minchell said nothing can be done except to bring the truck back. Escalated to General Manager who sent me General Sales Manager who told me to purchase an additional $2k warranty or bring the truck back. Two months have past now and I'm not bringing the truck back. I have a wonderful truck, but the purchase experience was the worst I've ever had. Proceed with caution with Capitol Ford. read more

If I could give lower than 1 star I would. On Wednesday I started looking for a car for my daughter (19yr old). I saw a 2023 Hyundai Elantra. The car online looked amazing and my daughter loved it. It was a great price even if the miles were a little high for the year. I spoke with Cody through text messages and made arrangements to drive from Tracy to San Jose. We all know that this trip took us close to 2 hours to get there with Bay Area traffic. We did the finance app online and made our way down. Spoke with Cody before we left and asked about the physical condition and he said it was clean only a few spots that could probably be buffed out from where someone rubbed against it. I was ok with that because it is a used car. I didn't expect to arrive and find deep gouges on the lower passenger side which are conveniently hidden on the website. I did mention this to them inside the dealership and one salesman told me that well if you look at it from the front you can't see them. Like that would make a difference. Then they said they would repair the damage but my 19 yr old would need to bring the car back to them in San Jose to which I said no and then they volunteered to take her a loaner and drive her car back. I was ok with that but then upon closer inspection of the car, there was bondo on the fender. Now they did show me their experian report to say that the car had not been in an accident. I did tell them that this car had been in an accident clearly (damage on it) and that it wasn't on the report because it was not reported to insurance. Anyone with eyes could see it had been it or had hit something. Honestly, they should pay for my gas and time for lying to me. They thought I can sucker this woman into buying this car because her daughter wants to so bad. I am not a sucker and this was such a crappy thing to do to anyone. You don't lie to customers to get them to travel hours to your store to purchase a vehicle that you know is not as it is described or shown in pictures. That is fraud. DO NOT GO TO THIS DEALERSHIP. This review is for the salesman Dale and for all of the things he did to try and help me buy a used Ford F-150. Of all of the car salesman that I dealt with trying to find a used Ford F150, Dale worked the hardest and spent the most time trying to help me. They had a 2004 Ford F150 that was on car guru but I had no pictures or information as capital Ford had to run it through their shop. Before the vehicle was even listed, Dale sent me videos of starting the truck, all of the imperfections and answered all of my questions. He did his due diligence and did not fault me for doing mine. He really bent over backwards trying to make sure I had all of the information I needed. When I told him that $14,000 for a 2004 Ford F150 was not acceptable, especially since it needed a new paint job, the seat had a tear in it and lots of imperfections. He tried to find some other vehicles for me. He assured me that if I was unhappy for any reason, they had a three day exchange policy and like 1000 used vehicles. All in all, I would definitely buy a vehicle from Dale. It is not his fault that this market has gone crazy and a 20-year-old vehicle, used, cosmetically pretty horrible, can sell for $14,000. The chip shortage has caused a huge deficit on four-wheel-drive pick ups and the price has almost doubled in the last year. The used truck market as well as new trucks are so inflated in price that buying a Tesla truck is now cheaper. Last year I was contemplating trading by Ford F150 in for a new heavy duty pick up and I looked up the trade in value in the private party value which was around $6000. Today the same pick up would sell for $12,000. My son had an accident in my F150 pick up, bent the frame, so we decided to buy another used one for him. We ended up Having to go with a used SUV as a used pick up was just too expensive. I do understand that as a car salesman, they do a lot of stuff to sell their vehicles. But in this market, I have had so many sales people just say stuff like " this is what we have, this is the price, you either want it or you don't" read more

Really irresponsible set of folks here. I brought in my ~30k ford fusion, and I had a broken passenger side mirror. I asked them to replace the mirror (because I dont know what else is actually broken). I leave my car with them and they tell me that its gonna cost ~500 bucks to fix. Fine, they order the part. I bring it back, and then I get a call, "Hey its going to take 800 bucks to fix because you need "other" things as well and not just the mirror". Why would you not tell me that 2 weeks back? And why can you not even be gracious enough to accept that "Hey we should have been thorough up front, and I apologize, and I know this is very inconvinient for you". The "service advisor" just gets all defensive. I mean, this is just shitty service. If I am going to a dealership, I am expecting "good" service for the pice of labor you charge (which is 300 freaking bucks per hour). Its a waste of time, money and just headache. read more
