Far fewer options than the 82nd store near Town Center, but the online reserving, etc. really speeds up the process. Yes, it's kind of expensive, though the cheaper option compared to other truck rentals. Vehicles are pretty worn, but safe enough. Just lousy mpg from a tired engine. They are clean and don't smell. Don't be in any hurry at checkout or return. Again, use the online system. The folks here seem nicer than a decade ago and will help if you need anything or want them to check something specific. 3.5 stars read more

Pretty great location. We've used this U-Haul location before and it was a good choice again. We reserved our truck on-line but the system gave us trouble. As in... 1. Never received our confirmation e-mail. So we had trouble checking in. We basically had to check in at the counter like normal. Could have been trouble but not for us. We used the truck and found it to be of good value. Cleaned it. Gassed it up and brought it back early. It ended up being cheaper than the computer told us it would be. Great deal with little stress on a day we needed help. read more

I got surcharged an extra $25 after returning my uhaul because they deemed I was short 1/16 of fuel. There gauge goes by quarters. They say it was 7/8th checking out and 1/16 below 7/8 tank on return. They nickel and dime you for any excuse they can get away with. Would NOT recommend this location. Look elsewhere. read more

Don't even bother with a reservation. I made an appointment online to get a tow hitch installed. The soonest one was a month out and the parts had to be paid for in advance. After taking time off, I showed up for my scheduled appointment. The line was out the door with one person at the counter. I waited 30 minutes to get to the counter. When I got to the counter, the salesperson said that they hadn't received the hitch at the store yet. I asked him when they thought it would be in, and he said he had no idea. I asked for a ball park- 2 days? 2 months? And he said it was all dependent on the manufacturer and that "no one wants to work now days" as if that was some explanation for the hold up. I asked him why they didn't contact me prior to the appointment time if they don't have the parts to do the work. He said they only call people when the parts come in, not if they don't show up for the scheduled time. Which makes no rational sense. Waiting a month for this appointment just to be told that they have no idea when they will get the parts while charging me for it?!? It not only cost me the hours lost, but I also now changed my vacation plans because now I have to scramble to find someone else to install (which I could've done a month ago). They did refund my money at the counter. I just can't understand how this can be a business model. Don't waste your time with U-Hal. read more

Holy explicit poop bags! Set up an appointment here to get a hitch installed bc it was the only store in the area w the hitch we need. Got the next available appointment which was four weeks out. They gave away the hitch and rescheduled the appointment without calling me. Three weeks later (during my vacation). Highly unprofessional. Poor communication. Would have been way worse had in it called and had shown up in person with my friend who was going to drive me home so I don't wait in store for hours. Do not get a hitch installed by Uhaul for any reason. Managed by national branch that blames it on the local, but it's a total goat show. National phone center guy wanted me to drive to Salem myself to pick up the part but appointment had already been given away. There's one star because that's the lowest I can go here. (Sigh)... where to begin. Let's start with the website. As you're checking out they'll tack on items like boxes or tape to the order. Moving is stressful enough without having to deal with swindlers. I'm then forced to delete these items before checkout to see my actual cost. Along with that they also like to skip out on the items you do need and paid for making your moving experience more difficult than it already is. My main concern is when bringing this up to staff and receiving assurance that you will not be charged for said items, BAM, they show up on your receipt anyway. My advice, go anywhere else. U-Haul is so desperate for money they'll do whatever it takes to get it from you. Even, flat-out, robbing you for ten dollars. I called in to schedule a hitch installation a week in advance to prepare for a move. I arrived at the scheduled time to find that they didn't have the hitch in stock yet I wasn't notified in advance. Took time off work to get this taken care of and was basically told they weren't at fault for scheduling this at a location that "had the parts in stock". I normally would go out of my way to go to this uhaul because the service and people are so friendly and awesome until I went this last time... I had booked a uhaul to take some stuff to the dump for my work like I've done maybe 20 times at the same location before and for some reason this time (probably because this person that normally doesn't help me was in a terrible mood) they decided to turn me down from being able to rent. In such a rude and nasty way. If you ever have to go to this uhaul location be hopeful you don't have to interact with the tall ginger guy with the beard and the long mullet because he is so darn miserable! He wouldn't let me rent because I put my work address as the address for my rental and rudely told me he wouldn't rent to me anymore because i was suspicious. I was referred to the McLoughlin location from another location that told me that they did not offer a specific service. Needless to say, I had already had horrific experiences with U-Haul in my relocation from California, everything that could go wrong did go wrong with my reservation with U-Haul. However, Jesse at the Milwaukee location more than redeemed U-Haul's reputation. Jesse off loaded my car from the transporter, helped me find the right sized storage unit and was just very helpful and empathetic. Jesse is honest, generous and has a great work ethic. I will only do business with this U-Haul location going forward. Jesse was literally a godsend to me! read more

Took forever both times we tried to rent a Uhaul for someone to come to the counter to help us and then it still took a while to complete the rental and the same when we returned the truck. We called one day to add a few days to the rental because the truck was completely full and had to wait a couple of days to get the keys from the realtor to our new house and we were told that they needed the truck back sooner. 1. They charged me 600 bucks for a hitch placement on my car and didn't set the ball height as I agreed on. 2. I went back so they could "fix" the height.. In which they added on a towing device used for BIKE RACKS (I already had my trailer attached to my vehicle for reference, so they knew what I was towing), which is ILLEGAL.. It's not made for what I was carrying (which I found out later). 3. After reattaching the hitch to my trailer, they DID NOT make sure the ball was securely down, and told me I was connected and free to go.. Which caused my TRAILER TO DETACH on the road, severing my electrical, eating away at my safety chains, and terrifying the living hell out of me. I could have KILLED someone. It would've been my fault.. And on a BIKE RACk hitch that clearly states "NOT FOR TOWING." 4. They came to the scene and did a half ass job fixing it, I still have a safety chain that's over half chewed away, and the rubber cap that goes over my electrical adapter on my car was never replaced. Not even an apology. 5. I had to go to a different hitch place to get a PROPER FITTING, LEGAL hitch. 6. I tried contacting their general manager, even on her personal phone. I never received a call back or email (I emailed them pictures from my phone when it happened). I have severe anxiety and PTSD now while driving with my trailer. read more

Insanely hard to communicate with these people!! This time around I left my moped at the McLoughlin Blvd location overnight. They are 100% devoted to customer service and have been absolutely fantastic to work with. 1) I received late fees for storage containers that hadn't shipped yet - they got them reversed without me asking (offered it). 2) They delivered my storage container to Salem and waited 30 minutes so I could put my couches in so they could take it back that day and save me money on delivery charges. 3) They understood when my bank declined my payments due to "suspicious activity" and daily usage limits. read more

We have had so many issues with this store. We made an appt to get a hitch out on our vehicle, we showed up for our appt and the guy said our appt wasn't until 2.5 hrs later. We showed him our confirmation on time date and price and he just didn't care. He was apologetic or considerate of the dilemma we were now in. We had gotten a babysitter and had plans in the time we were now suppose to get our hitch on. The beginning of the experience was great. However, the return was not. I know for a fact the prior person did not fill the tank completely even though the needle said it was full..1 hr into my drive it showed I'd gone through 1/4 tank already..I just thought crappy gas mileage and kept going. After 3 hrs, getting to my destination, tank was less than 1/2 tank..van was completely empty. I packed the van full, Filled it with gas, came home and only used 1/4 tank coming home..I tried explaining to the kid at the counter. POINTLESS has zero customer service or ability to even fake that he cares about a complaint I had. Helped a friends sister move and went with her to this location and advise the nice guy working the counter she was moving to Salem and would return the truck off of Silverton Rd. At the end the guy reiterated that it will be return to the silverton rd address. (our fault for not re checking the paper work) after a long day of moving from Portland to Salem we try to return the truck to the address in Salem and they won't accept it. We call this store and the guy who answered said it was a in town truck and has to be returned to their location but they will freeze the account to not add more mileage. We agree as we didn't check the paperwork and can pay the extra 40 in gas. We Drive it up and return it and are told a manager will call the next day as he wasn't in. We get a email two days later saying they are charging the extra miles and not giving us a discount or reimbursing any of it. Friday, April 21st I was in need of a U-Haul, it was after hours so I decided I would try out the after hours U-Haul program. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE! We made the reservation online, picked up the truck and thought it was a great idea, was super easy and very smooth. We loaded up the truck, unloaded it at the new location and went back to return the truck. The return process was pretty smooth, could of used some more details and steps but we dropped the key off and were ready to pay. HERE'S THE TERRIBLE PART!!! I filled everything out online and submitted my payment. At this point I was presented with an error message that pretty much said they could not process my payment and to try again. So I tried submitting the payment a few more times but was still presented with this error message. I wasn't going to leave the U-Haul truck without it being paid, at 11:30 PM at night, in the street, so I called customer service. I was explaining my story to her (Michelle **side note, she was as helpful as she could be) and decided to log into my banking app to make sure all my funds were there and available. That's when I found out that U-HAUL HAD CHARGED ME 22 TIMES TOTAL. THIS EQUALED $1,650.00 ABOVE THE $79 THAT I OWED THEM!!!!!!! She saw this on her end as well, gave me the number for the office in my area and told me to call them first thing in the morning, 7 AM. I called at 7:30 AM Saturday morning and spoke to someone named Michelle. She was taken back with the amount of charges to my account, said she was going to send it off to the programming department and would get back to me. 9:30 AM rolls around and I've heard nothing, so I called. I spoke with someone named Tammy. She was very rude and careless about my situation. She said she was going to check with Michelle and get back to me (which she never did). I called back around 1:00 PM and had the pleasure of speaking with Tammy again, who still, was very rude. She said they submitted it to a different department, which I was told they did at 7:30 AM and that they would follow up with me. Sunday, I never received a call from anyone. I tried calling the office 4 times and I was always presented with a busy tone. Monday I called and spoke with Christine, who has been the most helpful and pleasant to work with. Let me add, if it wasn't for her this review would have come a lot sooner. She mentioned that the crew over the weekend may not have know how to handle the situation and took over. She contacted the credit card services department, which no one had done yet, and was going to get back to me. She did follow up with me that day and let me know that they were working on releasing the funds and that they should be in my account within 24 hours. Tuesday rolls around (24 hours from when I last spoke to Christine) and I still was not refunded my money. I call Christine, she said its in the banks hands now. I call the banks and he said they cannot release pending charges as a way of protecting the merchant; which makes total sense. I asked to speak with the manager after this, which Christine told me she was busy and would leave a note for her to call me. Wednesday passed without contact or an update from anyone. IT'S NOT THURSDAY, I HAD TO CALL U-HAUL TO GET AN UPDATE AGAIN. I SPOKE WITH THE "MANAGER" MICHELLE, WHO WAS VERY RUDE, AND SHE SAID SHE GAVE IT TO HER MANAGER TO HANDLE. NO MONEY HAS BEEN REFUNDED, THEY ARE STILL WANTING TO CHARGE ME FOR MY USE OF THE TRUCK ($79) AND HAVE NOT OFFERED ANY SORT OF COMPENSATION. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO PAY RENT AND THE NEW PLACE I JUST MOVED INTO, I'VE JUST RETURNED TO WORK FROM MATERNITY LEAVE, I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH PPD AND ANXIETY AS IT IS AND NOW THIS!!! MY SON IS ABOUT TO RUN OUT OF DIAPERS AND I CAN'T BUY HIM NEW ONES. I am disgusted with the lack of care and customer service that U-Haul has given. Before I begin, don't trust the high-star reviews on UHaul's own website for each individual location. I gave this location a one-star review and they bumped it up to three stars before posting it on the website. To make a long story as short as possible: as usual things with UHaul/UBox start off well, and then end very badly. The UBox arrived on time, and I got a voicemail to come and unload it. I called back and told them the UBox would be in storage for a few months and I wasn't unloading it right away, which they said was no problem; and then the same guy called back the next two days telling me to come unload my UBox. At first they told me I need to call the day before I come down to access my UBox; and then when I did that, every single time the person who answered the phone gave me attitude like they didn't understand why I was calling. The first time I accessed the UBox one of the staff told me I don't really need to call in advance because my UBox will always be in the front. Of course the next time I accessed my UBox (to start unloading it) I still called ahead of time just to be safe, and I could still hear them audibly rolling their eyes that I was calling about it (even the manager gave me audible hassles about it). When I went down to access the UBox it was way in the back of the storage facility, so I had to wait for it to be brought out (and I was on a timeline with the Zipvan). After I was done unloading stuff from the UBox I told the guy I would be back the next day at the same time. When I went back the next day there was a forklift blocking my UBox and two sets of other angry customers in the parking lot (I overheard one say to the person she was with, "You're not going to believe this -- I am so f*cking pissed right now!!"). I waited 10 minutes in plain sight in the Zipvan for them to move the forklift, so when they didn't I parked the Zipvan and started carrying big, heavy boxes across the parking lot from the UBox to the moving van. All three employees who were there saw me doing this, and not one of them did anything about it (i.e. move the forklift, offer me a handtruck). In the end I was overcharged five weeks for UBox storage, and both times I asked someone at this location about it they said "we're just a franchise, you have to call the national customer service number". When I called the national customer service number they opened a customer action about the overcharge and told me the regional manager would call me back; and then the manager of this location left me a voicemail saying I wasn't overcharged and the dispute was closed. I had to call back again to have the ticket reopened, and I had to explain the whole situation over again (basically the originating location double-charged me and started a second billing cycle). I was told a second time that the regional manager would call me back about the situation. So this morning the general manager of this location (I confirmed she's not the regional manager) left another voicemail saying she doesn't understand what I'm saying and that I wasn't overcharged (and that they don't give partial refunds for unused UBox storage, even though that's not the reason I was overcharged). I'm going to have to dispute the charges with my bank because no one at UHaul understands basic math when it's outside of taking your money. If you need to rent something from UHaul do yourself a huge favor and make the journey to UHaul of St. Johns, where the staff and manager there are actually concerned about customer service and earning your business. read more

Times available were tight to pick up my kids from school, but they assured me the work would be done in time. 30 minutes over time they tell me they couldn't get the dirt cover reinstalled; barely made it in time to pick up my kids. The staff was very rude and not helpful, the U-Haul phone reservation system does not seem to communicate well with this store as we were told a truck would be available for a cpl hours to rent only to find out once we arrived that it was not. I had a great experience with this crew. We called on a Sat. morning desperate for a second pod because all of our stuff didn't fit in the first one! They had it ready for us on a trailer for pick up in an hour. Five days later we were ready to pick it up but needed a truck to go with it. Everything was ready to go, only took us five minutes to do the paper work and we were on our way. Oh and when we returned it full, we neglected to put a lock on it, so they did it for us at no charge. And that is all darn good for a team of young women! This uhaul location has the best customer service I have ever experienced. About a month ago my husband and I rented a van to drive to Seattle to pick up our motorcycle. At that time of the pick up and drop off the service was amazing. No questions, we were in and out and the whole process was so smooth. Today my husband and I were driving that same motorcycle we picked up from Seattle and we just so happened to break down next to the store. With no tools in our pack,the guys were so kind and gave us any tools we needed to fix the problem! Talk about A+ customer service. Within 10 minutes we were on our way. If they hadn't been so sweet to let us use the tools it would of been a costly tow bill and we wouldn't of made it to the dmv on time! It's good to know that there are still friendly people and places out there who will be willing to help even if we didn't use their service that day. I would highly recommend them. read more

I went here to have a trailer hitch installed on my car. Something they advertise that they do all the time. Making an appointment was easy. I had to stand in line at the customer service desk for nearly 30 minutes to get checked in when I arrived. The hitch was installed in about 2 hours. Upon driving the car, I noticed a banging noise coming from under the car. When I got home, I crawled under the car and found that they had forgotten to reattach the muffler to the frame. Not only that, but they bent in two one of the attachments. I hope they're not going to have to buy me a new muffler! Today I waited over 1/2 hour to get through to a customer service rep at the national office, who told me the local service centers are not answering their phones because they are too busy during peak season. WTH can't they hire some extra people to take care of the phones? I have to drive over there just to talk to someone. Hopefully they'll take care of it - not feeling particularly optimistic right now. read more
