They picked up the trailer, drove it across the country, left it in front of my new house for 3 days (again, exactly where I asked them to place it). I emptied the trailer, they picked it up. Saved big bucks from the full-service option. Enough that I could hire a couple of people at each end to help with the loading & unloading, and it was still waaay cheaper. Most importantly - everything happened exactly as they said it would. No surprises. Driver and dispatchers were courteous. Moving is a lot of work, and expensive. It was quite a challenge trying to identify which long-term container movers were scammers and which were legit. The only people I found that had legitimate reviews were U-Pack. I moved 3 states over and overall, I'd give them 5 stars. The only area of feedback I'd give was for them to be a bit more clear as to the requirements for pickup and drop-off at both locations. Other than that, the container was delivered on time, the staff at ABF and U-Pack were kind and honest. Consumers who want someone to move their stuff long distance - Please expect more of a 'wholesale' type experience. You can't expect hand holding . . . you're not paying for that. You're paying for a low cost container to move your stuff. I packed my stuff well so there was limited breakage. However, I was expecting some stuff to get broken. Tip - I put multiple sheets of 4x8 plywood with about 6 ratcheting straps on the back end to hold all my stuff in and to ensure nobody touched my gear. I ended up using a full container with a 3 bed/2 bath house. Medium boxes worked best. Start packing EARLY . . . like months early. No, you don't need those extra clothes. You think you do, but you don't. Pack as much stuff as you can as early as you can. We started 3 months prior to move date and I am SO glad that I did. U-Pack was the only carrier I could find that would move my items to where I needed. I probably could have looked harder but I only had a week from the time I got the news to be packed up. I only had a week because I needed my furniture and boxes to arrive on a certain date, and I could guarantee that date if the relocube was picked up within a week. The phone support folks were super helpful. The web dashboard was super awesome to see where my relocube was the status of things. The dashboard also provided the phone number for the destination and origin facilities. The one thing I really wish U-Pack provided was an itemized invoice. I read a few reviews online that said U-Pack was able to deliver from A to B for $G, but my cost was $GG for equal to or less distance. I called up and asked if my quote was an estimate and if it would come down at all. I was told that my quote was accurate. It sucks that folks would write a review with their costs since it can lead to some irate interactions with customers. With an itemized quote and invoice, they'd be able to tell myself and others that it costs $0.Y per mile, $H per relocube, and also include other costs. When it's just a single line item, it's hard to know whether or not the company is just making up costs on the spot and if they're treating other moves equally. All-in-all, I think the price was fair. It would have cost me more to rent a moving truck/van, pay for the gas, and do it all myself. This way, I was able to drive my car while someone else hauled my furniture. I was able to enjoy the sights and take my time without having to worry about someone breaking into the moving van at a hotel, or my car fishtailing on the highway behind the moving truck. Really pleased with everything. I hope I don't have to move this far again, but if I do I'll 100% go with U-Pack. read more

We recently used U-Pack to move from California to Oregon, and the process went much smoother than I expected! Before we packed our cubes, I had concerns about security and whether our belongings would make it to our destination in one piece. The folks at the San Jose U-Pack center were very professional and made our cube-loading day go very smoothly. Once we finished packing our cubes, I knew they would be secure and in good hands as they made their way to our destination. I would definitely use U-Pack again if we were to do another interstate move. The only thing I would do differently is to opt for the guaranteed delivery date, just to have one fewer variable to account for. read more

We couldn't get everything in the first 3 days so we asked for an extension and in the middle of our move we had to change the address and they did so with ease! We moved a 2BR condo + a garage full of stuff from the Bay Area of CA to Colorado. I would totally use this company again and recommend to my fam/friends. Truck arrived on time. Easy to load with included ramp. The barricades to seal off our load were the worst part of the whole experience. UPack could update those to make them easier to use and make sure that the securing pins are included. Picked up on time and I did not have to be home. We used UPACK 3 times to do 3 cross-country move and this is the worst experience we have had. At the Origin, it was fine until we tried to schedule a pick-up. When we called the number, the dispatcher will transfer us to the driver, who will not pick up the call. So we had to leave a message to the driver through the dispatcher, and we told them that we will not be done after a particular time. Then the driver came over when our movers were still loading the truck and the driver said the dispatcher did not say anything to him about the time. We hurried up but did not load everything we would like into the trailer because the driver was hurrying us to finish. We had an awful experience with the San Jose team at the delivery location. First, Erika Oeverndiek was the worst customer representative I had dealt with. She is condensing and disrespectful. She should not be dealing with people if she hates people. It should be an easy experience scheduling a delivery, but she instead gave us tons of grief about the power line being low near my house based on dated Google Map pics. We asked my friends to measure the power line and it is 2 feet above the truck height. Then after tons of back and forth, we finally saw the driver delivering the trailer at 5 pm on the delivery day. Lo and behold, it was not our trailer. THEY DELIVERED THE WRONG TRAILER. We then spent 1 hour on the phone trying to get our trailer delivered while the movers were waiting to unload (while we have to pay the movers). This is when our babies were watched by babysitters, who are also charging us. Then on the day when they picked up the trailer, they did a ton of damage to the trees on our property. I can't have had a more negative experience with this move. read more

We just completed our move from the SF Bay Area to Boise Idaho in December, using the ABF U-Pack system. I learned that prices vary considerably from one month to the next. Moving in Dec was 10% cheaper than Nov, and much cheaper than in summer time. As good consumers should do, I researched several leading companies. To save money, we planned to rent a 20-26ft U-Haul truck. But that turned out to actually cost $1000 more, plus we had to drive the truck ourselves and pay for gas (they get under 10mpg!). We chose U-pack because of better reviews and much lower prices than well known white and red pods company, and Upack has been doing this for over 20 years (called ABF, who is still the actual trucking company that U-pack is part of). I had used them years ago in Sacramento, where they dropped a trailer off at the curb for 2-3 days so we could take time to pack in our stuff. Then a truck took the trailer away. All very simple and inexpensive compared to using standard movers or pods. U-Pack (ABF) does portable pods like others, but the much cheaper way to go is to pack your stuff in a trailer rather than a pod. You calculate how much of a 28ft trailer you need (we guessed high, at 20ft). Then you make a reservation online or call. It couldn't be easier. You select your pickup time and drop-off time, and you are free to make changes by just calling. You can choose to have the trailer dropped off at your house or storage unit to load it, or you can save $500-600 and rent a truck to take your stuff to a local ABF yard to load your trailer. That's what we did. You can do the same thing for delivery. You have 3 days to load and then unload at your destination. You can even pre-schedule a couple of strong 3rd party helpers to come help load/unload. If your stuff actually takes up more or less feet in the trailer than your estimate, they give you credit for every foot. You are not charged for your estimated footage, only your actual footage. You then lock in your stuff with a bulkhead. . . Only your belongings are put in the trailer, nobody else's stuff. ABF then contracts the unused trailer space for commercial freight. It was all very painless from start to finish. read more

A GREAT experience and value using UPack. We checked multiple companies because we were moving from San Jose to Coeur d' Alene, ID and needed to store the units for 2 months. The UPack pods were delivered on time, and picked up on time. Great communication on both. The pods were in Spokane for storage as promised and we then unloaded them into a moving truck for delivery. Nothing out of place or broken and we had loosely packed them and would have known if the pods had been out of balance. The cost to have the pods delivered to the condo ($800) was twice as much as hiring a mover that included two guys ($400) so that is the route we went. Would highly recommend UPack. read more

Upack is how you turn a $2000 move to a $5000 move. I have never experienced a more unorganized, unaccommodating, and unknowledgeable company. We move every year and have always relied on local expertise. This particular move took us further than the others so we enlisted the help of a company that had more branches nationwide. Upack mistakes 1. First rep we spoke to checked and double checked to ensure we could get same day pick up. We didn't. 2. Truck dispatch claimed they never received noticed so we were stuck with a giant trailer overnight. 3. Driver ensured us trailer would be gone by 9am. It wasn't. 4. They told us last minute they can't deliver to our destination address. We asked for an explanation and they said truck wouldn't fit. False. Building wouldn't give permission. False. There was no loading room. False. We called our building directly and even got permission to park overnight. We even called the dispatch company but by this point it was already too late no matter how much we proved them wrong. 5. Driver told us we'd probably get our stuff in less than five days. We didn't Extra costs incurred because of upack: 1. Fined by apartment for overnight trailer 2. Missed flights waiting for a driver who didn't show up until 11am 3. Additional moving company to go pick up our stuff to actually move to our destination. Avoid upack at all costs. read more

Firstly, I think how their business model works is ingenious. To lower prices, you need to increase volume. I got the large trailer, they dropped it off at public storage, we loaded it up, installed the separator wall, and received the trailer few days later. Tips: - Use your common sense when packing the trailer, it is a truck, it is going to go over bumps, turns, its gonna break, etc. I was worried whether my stuff can survive, I used S straps from home depot to hold things against the rails of the trailer. Everything arrived without a single damage. - You can call the dispatch on the day of drop off and pick off, to get a more accurate time-frame for the truck. - Use the provided bars that go across the trailer (it is basically a stronger strap) Overall, I am very satisfied. Price, time-frame, quality, customer service. A++ in my book. Thank you. read more

UPack was a great option to support our cross state move (CA to NV). They were affordable, took care of driving the storage pods to our new home, and their online portal made it easy to move through each step of the move. We were moving out of a storage unit and having the options of a trailer or pods was helpful, as it ended up being the case that our storage unit would only allow pods in the lot overnight. We were there for the drop off of the pods so that we could open the gate and show them where to put the cubes, but didn't need to be there for the pickup so we could head out as soon as we were done packing up the pods! Do note you'll need to provide 2 locks for each pod. They were also flexible after dropping off the pods in our new location- despite the site saying we had 3 days to unpack, we were told they could be flexible if we ended up needing longer with no additional charge. (We didn't end up using this option but it was nice to know!) read more

Loved moving with U-pack I had my stuff moved from the SFO bay area to Seattle and now I know that long distance moving can be easy, cost effective and flexible even in a pandemic. Summarizing Key points --Ordered 2 and ended up using only 1 relo cube. I was surprised to see how one cube could fit all of my stuff. Also, loved the flexibility/option that we are charged for cubes used  and not for the number reserved. -Used a Master combination lock from home depot(875DLH 2in wide zinc set with 1 1/2 extra long shackle) and it worked perfectly fine. - We just need to be present when they drop off the cubes (both at pick up and drop off locations), so that the cubes are placed at proper parking spots(fits in 1 car parking spot). And once done, Just schedule pickup online or through call. No need to be present in-person :) - Plenty of time to load/unload them . 3 business days for loading and unloading stuff and . Though I scheduled it for next day. -Customer service was excellent. The drivers at both pick up and destination, support people on call were all very helpful and accommodating. Driver even called me in advance to let me know his time of arrival.  -Cost was 1/3 of other movers(their estimate was for moving only, but yeah-with better insurance.) We pack -so we are responsible for our stuff with cubes unless its an external related damage. Overall, I will use it again, if I ever need to move And will recommend it. read more

We just moved from California to Washington with UPack. They were fantastic! The trailer arrived Thursday morning, we packed it in the afternoon and they returned the next morning to pick it up. They delivered the trailer Wednesday morning in Washington, we unpacked it and they came back and collected it the same day. Their customer service was great. Everything was well organized and efficient. I would definitely use them again, we couldn't have had a better experience! We chose to use professional movers to pack and unpack our trailer and that was a good decision. Packing up a trailer is an art, we would never have been able to get all our belongings in if we had tried to do it ourselves. Even though it did add to the expense, it was still a very low-cost way to move! I would highly recommend Upack! read more

My first time using self moving service company. I moved from cali to texas, did alot of research for long distant movers and made some calls. On average, alot of state movers want to charge 6-7.5k for a 1 bedroom move(that includes them help packing some additional stuff etc). To me that is too expensive so i decided to call self moving service companies. i checked out pods.con, uhaul and upack. After calling them and checking out the prices and reviews, i ended up with upack. I did not regret at all. from start to finish, the on the phone rep was very nice and courtesy and answered all my questions. After finalizing the move dates, one can check their provided url with your ref# to keep tracking of your moving progress. Throughout the whole process, i did not experience any issue whatsoever. Fr dropping off the relocube to picking it up, to delivering to texas, all went smoothly. keep in mind, upack only provides 3 business days to pack ur stuff into the cube befor it is picked up, same with unpacking stuff from the cube(s). So plan accordingly. Try to plan it so it rolls over the weekend as weekends so u have more days if needed. one minor nitpick i have is the way the relocube is secure . even though one can use shackle locks to lock both swing doors of the cube, it seems anyone(if they want to, they can untorque the nuts and bolts off the handles and bars that are holding the shackles together. i dont know how pods and uhaul locking mechanism work... so do ur own research. To me this is not a big deal, if someone wants to steal ur stuff, they can do so regardless How it is locked. overall, I'm very happy with this self service moving experience with upack. From my personal experience, i would recommend potential personnel to check them out. I would definitely use them again for my future moves. ray read more

I'll start by saying that our move went smoothly and I would use them again and recommend them to others. That being said, there were a few inconveniences that didn't make it a 5 star rating. First, they gave us a drop off window of between 8:00 and 12:00 and they showed up around 1:30. Not that big a deal since we had 3 days to load it but since this was the very first experience with them it made us a little worried how the rest of the move would go. Second, the trailer that was delivered to us had a problem with the roll up door. It had a tendency for the rollers on one side to come off the track. Luckily I hadn't packed up all my tools and was able to fix the problem but it ended up being a real hassle every time the door needed to be opened or closed. Lastly, and probably the least important, the trailer is marked off in two foot increments but the first section is only about 15" instead of the full 24" and when you install the bulkhead to contain your belongings it is inset so that the space that you are actually able to use ends up being a full foot less than what you are charged for. read more

We used ABF U-PF U-Pack to move us from CA to MD! They saved us Thousands of dollars. They dropped the truck off on Monday, we loaded it (with help from a moving co) and had them pick the trailer up the next day. The truck was here as promised. We had a tough driveway to back the trailer into - Bob Johnson tried several times & Never gave up. He was able to back the truck & trailer in & we were able to unload in 1 day. We used 24 ft of the truck, they charged us less than they quoted because we used 4 ft less space. Great job to Bob again for delivering our truck & picking it up the next day!!! One moving quote was over $27K from several moving companies. ABF charged us a little over $5100!!! I was looking around for a moving company for our long distance move from San Jose to Las Vegas and everything was pretty expensive. I came across U-PACK and yes we have to move everything ourselves but thought it was well worth the price since they drove it over for us. The other moving companies kept bad mouthing each other and was a totally turn off and very unprofessional. I should give them bad review but honestly I don't want to waste my time with them. I moved from CA to NC. Setting up the move was super easy. They didn't require payment up front and let me change my booking many times before the pod arrived. Always easy to get in touch with their representatives over the phone and they are all super friendly, patient and obliging. I wanted the pod longer than usual at the loading site and they made an exception for me without fuss or additional cost. The pod arrived both at the loading and unloading sites within a timely manner and everything inside arrived at the destination in good shape. This is probably one of the best experiences I've had working with ANY company. Please keep up this good work, U-Pack. We had hoped to use national movers for our cross country move but had no luck finding one that would get back to us. We decided to use U-Pack and we had a great experience! Super easy and convenient, even when I had to change plans multiple times (first was planning to have the cubes delivered to my apartment, then had to switch to packing them at the depot, also needed to add a cube last minute and switch the delivery address and it was no problem). Unlike national movers, U-Pack representatives were available to chat with me at any time about questions I had and updates I had to make. They were always super helpful and reassuring. And I loved being able to track my stuff online and know where it was and when it was arriving. And it all came very quickly and in great condition! Truly made moving much less stressful. Unpack provided timely and as advertised service. We have ordered 23 fit of trailer, ended up using 25 for the incremental cost as advertised. Drivers showed up on time, the trailer was loaded on BSNF train between Stockton and Dallas, arriving to Dallas on day 5 After pickup. Trailer was functional, last panel on the left side being damaged by (as per driver) forklift, and exposing some shaft sheet metal edges. This was a smal nuisance we had to address in handling. You can do pretty much everything online including changing the pick up dates, update address, etc. I will highly recommend U-Pack especially if you are moving long distance. I highly recommend U-Pack as an alternative to a full-service move. Our driver from California to Colorado was excellent -- texting us his ETA, giving helpful advice about packing, being especially kind and courteous. Our driver in Colorado was efficient and friendly -- no complaints. Our things arrived in excellent condition, on time, with all elements of the pickups and drop-offs unfolding without incident. It takes a little bit of effort on your part, though. You can hire movers (additional charge) through U-Pack, though when doing so you will need to provide all moving blankets, straps, and tie-downs, so be sure to budget for that and find out what is needed. Stay on top of the phone calls for pickups and drop-offs -- this will help everything go smoothly. You'll need to figure out where the trailer can be parked, get a permit for parking (in some cases), and find a way to reserve the spot. We used a sawhorse with a hand-made sign. All in all we had a successful move and would use this service again. read more

Used U-Pack to move from California to Illinois. Phone people were friendly, helpful, and NOT pushy! Everything progressed per plan and per their promise. U-Pack cubes showed up when they promised and they picked them up with less notice than they requested. I bought one of their box/packing packages. I suggest ordering more paper then provided if you have a lot of dishes/glasses. The supplied packing tape leaves much to be desired. Doesn't stick very well. I recommend you use their on-line tool to determine how many cubes you'll need. They quoted a 7 to 10 day delivery time...the cubes arrived in 5 days! I told them I planned my arrival in Illinois around their quoted delivery dates. They held them for me without any issue or storage charge. The cubes were delivered when I requested and we're picked up the next day. Overall: Great experience, no issues, and helpful, friendly people to work with. read more

We recently used U-Pack ReloCubes to move across the country. We loaded at the terminal in San Jose, CA and had the cubes dropped off in our driveway in Florida. We loaded the cubes on a Friday and they were delivered to our driveway 12 days later on Wed. Overall the experience was great. We had no problems loading at the terminal in San Jose. They called us the day the cubes arrived in FL (Tues) and scheduled the drop off for the next day (Wed). They came and picked up the cubes the day after we told them we were done unloading them (they send you a text with a link to their website where you can schedule the pickup...it was very easy). Everyone we dealt with at U-Pack was professional and friendly. Their pricing was very competitive. I would recommend using U-Pack and their ReloCubes. read more

From beginning to end, everyone we dealt with at UPack was fantastic. I called with a ton of questions and they answered them all clearly. Their prices are upfront and a fair deal compared to movers or Uhaul. We relocated to Washington state and felt secure know by that UPack was transporting our things. It helped ease our minds about driving in the heart of winter to get to an unfamiliar place. Because of our moving right after Christmas, the time frame was a little wonky (especially because the holidays were observed on weekdays) so our stuff came a day or two later than we were hoping. But that was our doing, since they were closed. Just keep weekends and holidays in mind when you use their services. Everyone was extremely pleasant to talk to and kind. My laminate flooring, purchased online through BuildDirect, was scheduled to be shipped to my home via ABF (same company). ABF called me the day before to verify delivery would be made to my home between 1-5 pm the following day. I am a single mom and asked for an evening delivery to avoid taking time off work, which they would not accommodate. The following day I was home from 1-5 pm. At 5 pm, I called to inquire about my delivery. The dispatcher had the driver call me, at which point he told me that they were backed up all day and I could expect my delivery at 7:30 pm. I was livid. No one even called me to let me know, I had to call them!! When I called back to complain to the dispatcher (who was also the driver's manager), he said, "yeah we have been backed up since morning. Sorry." He literally couldn't care less that no one called me when they started getting backed up nor that I took time off work for this delivery window. 7:30 pm rolled around, still no phone call. 8 pm, 9 pm, 10 pm rolled around. No phone call. They arrived at 11 pm. I was completely frustrated, tired, annoyed by my day. I didn't even take care of my kids properly since I was so worried that the delivery would arrive at any moment. The cherry on top? They delivered my heavy flooring boxes to the curb and I had to haul 32 boxes into my home by myself. Zero stars for customer service, communication, and delivery service to my home.
