She offered to answer my questions but was in a hurry so didn't really seem like she wanted to help. They wanted to charge me $5.60 to mail this envelope. I was told it's a package or box because it's padded and that I should speak to a supervisor if I disagreed. I looked up the definition of envelope on the USPS website and it didn't say anything about padded. The supervisor yelled at me and told me to call the 800 number if I wanted to complain. Back in February they sent a priority mail (2-3 day) package intend to be delivered California to Hawaii and it was never received. They said that Hawaii is en route to California and that was not a mistake. They refused to give me a refund and I lost the contents. The contents were insured up to $50 but they would not let me file a claim. read more

This branch is the most efficient in the area. I never see anyone working slowly in their own time. When I drop off packages they are scanned in a timely manner. I drive from Sliver Spring / Chevy Chase to use this branch rather than one closer. I'm not looking for a friend when I go to the PO, just efficiency and that's what you get at the Kensington branch. read more

This post office is tiny, yet it gets the job done. It is not very busy at midday which is nice if you are in a hurry or have the day off to run errands. The parking lot is small, but there is street parking available. It is also down the street from the popular Antique Row of Historic Kensington. The staff are helpful and efficient. I definitely plan to come here for my Christmas shipping needs. read more

My mail carrier is great but the managers at this post office need to retire or take a vacation. I have never experience such rude attitudes when trying to find out about a package 10 days past it's scheduled delivery. I called the main usps number to see if they could help and they had me open a case. Well that resulted in the Kensington post office calling me up, telling me that this is perfectly normal and my package is not late and that the case has been "resolved." When I brought up the idea that it may be lost since there had only been one scan on the day of acceptance and nothing else in the last 2 weeks, I was basically yelled at as if I had struck a nerve... maybe they have had problems with lost packages before? Anyways, after trying to defuse the situation and explain that I simply want to receive my package I was again assured there was no action that could be taken and I would just have to wait. I decided that based on the attitude, I couldn't trust what they told me so I called the post office that the shipment originated from and explained my story. They were so incredibly nice and opened a ticket that would have the package be manually pulled by hand the next time it was scanned so it could be directed to the proper destination and also let that postal agent know so that they could in turn call me back at the number they took down. At the end of this interaction they mentioned that my local office could have actually done this exact same thing.... all goes to show that the Kensington post office is lazy and has a poor attitude about serving our community. I don't care if there is a line out the door when they have a break they are taking a break . Why don't they have an automated machine ? The clerical staff actually is very nice . They all look bored and don't care to be there but need a job to pay their bills . I feel sad for the them because I am sure the job has aged them several years The manager looks like her only function is just to stare down her employees and make sure they are doing their jobs in specific time intervals as per some government bureaucrat . I was in and out of here several times during the 2020 holiday season, and despite some long lines and the occasional noticeably irritated customer, the staff here were helpful, courteous, and professional. The place was always clean and staff strictly enforced their COVID-related line/distance/occupancy rules. I recently called about a delivery issue, and not only did they help clear things up over the phone, the manager and another staff member even arranged for some paperwork to be waiting for me when I arrived later that day. read more

After my grandfather worked 30 years as a postman, I have always been a big fan of USPS. But after my experience here today, that'll change. Came in the ship a license plate in a manila envelope. Fits in the envelope, weighs 3.9oz, all set to go. Clerk rings it up, and just as I'm about to pay, she feels the envelope and asks, "is this a license plate". Yes, I reply. Then it begins. 10 minutes of waiting because now it's not an envelope, it's a "package", and she has to charge me more. Didn't change size, didn't change weight, but at USPS, it costs more to ship 3.9oz of pressed aluminum in a flat envelope than 3.9oz of paper in a flat envelope, apparently. Call in the supervisor too because this mandatory upsell apparently was challenging to get the computer to do too. You know who doesn't care? UPS. They just take the package and ship it, hoping their good service will ensure a repeat customer. And now they just got a new one. read more

If this Office is not busy it's great, if they are busy it can become a problem. They usually have one or two staff members taking care of lines. Parking has always annoyed me here, it's small and oddly layed out. Staff is very helpful not any issues there, just don't get stuck there on a busy day. You will be waiting for a bit. I would just say fix the parking. It gets the job done for a small town like Kensington, well for me at least. read more

Now here is the real kicker, I have two identical items to mail. They are the exact same weight, size, shape, everything is Identical. I mailed one package at another post office near my house the day before. And today I was in Kensington so I decided to mail it here. How is it that two identical packages can cost two different amounts??? The lady in Kensington argued with me and charged more money for the second package even though it was identical to the first one I mailed at another post office. I tried to tell her I mailed the same exact package yesterday for less money. She refused to listen and she said " You should take this one back there and mail it then." Rude! Look i'm just trying to figure out why it cost more here in Kensington... Did she have her thumb on the scale??? I hope not. but who knows. This is not the first time they have tried to raise the price of a letter or package compared to other post offices.... Just the worst. Mis-deliveries, non-deliveries, late-deliveries. I recently was awaiting a package from China. Apparently, although it had my name, street number, street, and nine digit zipcode completely correct, somewhere along the line a discrepancy in the city crept in and the state was deleted. But it made it from China to within one mile of my house without a problem and it got to this Post Office successfully. But since the city named was incorrect (and the closest city with the named one is over a thousand miles away) they didn't deliver it or contact me. They returned it to China. Way to go. read more

If you are going to do a job then do it right was never heard at this post office. You can feel the anger swirling by government workers who hate their job. The worst is the post master ( aka the one that doesn't have to be at the counter). She is so angry. If you go to FEDEX or UPS they are trained like any other private company to greet you with a smile and customer is always right. I had a package that wasn't delivered and sent back and was told here is a thousand forms not our fault. At FEDEX or UPS i would have gotten the package there and if not would get refund. My problem with this branch is over stopping mail. When I stop my mail, it only works 2 out of 3 times. I recently left town for 2 weeks. I personally handed the stop mail form to a clerk and watched her stamp it. I even stopped it a day early to see if it had actually been stopped. I received no mail that day. Bur sure enough, the person who stopped by to check on our house informed us that he collected our mail AGAIN! Registering a complaint seems to make no difference. read more

This post office is busy. The employees are good about answering questions or taking time to explain the mailing process. The parking lot is small so often times it is hard to find sparking space. We moved to Silver Spring, Maryland in the Spring of 2006. We soon discovered that the local Post Office is not reliable. We don't receive much more than junk mail, so lost incoming mail is not a problem, but occasionally we have to mail something important. This is the most incompetent post office I've dealt with. As an example, they fly by early am and drop PS Form 3849 ( delivery forms for registered mail) in the mail box and don't even knock ( registered mail has to be signed for). This week, I went to pick up the international package, with a tracking number ) and they LOST the package! Literally, couldn't find it. They delivery guy left it outdoors at the Post Office and now it's gone! They claim they searched for it and it "disappeared". This is only one of many consistent mistakes. read more

I sent an international package through Global Express Guaranteed on 3/15/11 and it was not delivered on date promised, the package came back and had to be picked up from the Kensington post office, I completed the necessary forms as informed by the receiving clerk when the package was mailed, apparently I needed copy of a receipt which I was not informed at the time. Actually the clerk gave us a wrong form to fill and she did not fill up her part right. (We found out from FedEx. ) I requested my refund of $123.20 since services were not rendered and SHARON MACLIN from the Kensington post office stated that "You will not get a refund from the post office and that's it" she continued to say that what she had just told me was the final word and I could not go above her in trying to get my refund from USPS. The lack of customer service from this employee should not be permitted and no customer should be subjected to such treatment. She needs to listen when customers are trying to express their concerns instead of speaking over them and not allowing the customers to speak. I chose the GLOBAL EXPRESS GUARANTEED service because there was an urgency in the promptness of the delivery of the package and now when the package should have been received by the recipient, I get it back to were the transaction was originated from. Finding out that the package would not be received on time creates many difficulties and on top of it all, SHARON MACLIN from the Kensington post office should show some sympathy for not providing the service, but instead treats people disrespectfully. Had they done their jobs correctly from the beginning, they package would be arriving at its destination as guaranteed by this service. This could not be the first time this service has been used by USPS to not ask for the proper documentation. USPS should not provide services they cannot deliver. I should have at least received an apology or some sort of acknowledgment that they did not ask for the proper documentation instead of an ANGRY manager that spoke to me as if I were a child and showed not respect. She basically never answers the phone (currently has been ringing for 10 minutes), and when she does it's always with an attitude. Live in Kensington since 67', received mail through and used this PO since. Service and helpfulness over the years has not remained as good as it has been. The "dedicated" long-term mail carrier does not exist now; irregular carriers and while delivering mail, most are hooked up to players or talking on phone. On-line scheduled package pickups are not always picked up which requires rescheduling again, heavy snowy days mail is not always delivered though govt not closed. This PO is small and busy for many people use this PO; parking problematic when busy, so many park in the small shopping area down the street. The people who work the counters helping with service consist of several regulars and a few who circulate different local PO's; they are friendly, welcoming and a pleasure and acknowledge you by name if a regular. But, when you call for assistance or to discuss a problem or must question a tracked item that has not been delivered, there is an attitude I find off-putting with the sense that I wasted my time! We must complain when there is poor service, poor mail delivery or poor customer service--I do although not well received.
