I came early because I had wanted to pick up my package instead of having it delivered to my apartment, I ended up getting yelled at by both the black ladies who work here. I had tried to explain to one of the ladies that I wanted to pick it up instead, she was yelling at me to wait by the pick up line. When another black lady came, she came out all mad asking me what I wanted, as I was explaining she was telling me I should've ordered a pick up. She was also yelling at me because apparently it couldn't scan. When I gave her my ID, she was acting stupid telling the other employee to confirm that was me. Another thing I did notice was that there was a black customer in the line after me. The black employee had greeted her and was acting all nice to her. I'm not sure what's up with the employees but they're racist and rude. read more

There's this tall black man behind the counter most of the time. I have never seen him smile at customers any time I'm there and he is also rude and talks to the customers like they are children. I went there to have my address changed and was told by him that they don't change addresses there so I should go to another location. Since when??? I did not argue with him because I didn't need him to ruin the rest of my day. I went to another post office in another city and after filing the form. The lady asked me why I didn't do it at Silver Spring location. Well you tell me. I told her exactly what that man told me. She was confused; I've been confused myself. I understand Congress has tried to destroy the USPS for years, and they've done a great job of hamstringing its ability to process large amounts of mail (thanks, DeJoy!). However, this post office has had poor service ever since I moved to Wheaton in 2008. Long lines, sullen employees for the most part and slow service. I avoid this post office like the plague, and try to use UPS for any service I can. I will say the postal carriers try their best and generally seem to do a good job, but the people behind the counter here really should look for other employment if they don't like it. read more

What a joke and totally unprofessional operation. Received a bill for a P.O. Box renewal. Sent a check for that amount. After receipt of the check it was placed in our PO Box with a sticky note to say rates went up and now we owe more money. I can't believe this is any way to run a business. Woman behind the counter is rude and expect customers to know what to do before they get there. I brought a large package that was under the 70 pound max. She saw it and had me lift it to the scale on her desk which she claimed could not measure the weight and told me she could not take it. I took it to another post office which had no problem weighing it so she just didn't want to deal with it. Came here just to record the fact...you can't find this place. Then I saw all the negatives...over years and years- time.... c'mon we can do better than this. They have vertical blinds, pulled closed. Can't see in....is this it?? Walking into the door...it looked like a Carrier Station, couldn't see Window Service. Walked out -- there's no signage, just tried doors. When I saw smudgey, filthy glass..,this must be it. Age old problem with surly window clerks. Root them out. There should be a separate class of clerical positions....aspire to these higher paid jobs that have more training with an emphasis on Customer Service. People grouse like Goldilocks..too long on the job, too new on the job, too Whatever to get to Just Right. They blame unions. Yeah right. Provide incentives for high achievers, money raises attitude, never fails. Bench window clerks who are clearly dragging their feet and are rude. Go back to workroom floor for a week. Come to window service after counseling. Everybody loses with this. We can do better. Raise consciousness. Train and pay better for elite customer service. Bench under performers, they harm the Service. And....better signage. read more

Hopefully, this one-star rating will reflect the postmaster who "helped" me and not the entire office. I stopped by this post office to inquire about the status of my change of address request because my mail has not been forwarded in over a month. I described the situation to the postmaster and showed him the confirmation email from USPS stating that the change of address form was processed. His response was: the online form is tricky and I should fill out the paper form. To that, I informed him that I visited the post office in my previous address and was told that my mail has been forwarded to this zip code. The postmaster verified this by validating my information in whatever system USPS uses. I mentioned this to the postmaster; he shrugged his shoulders and told me to fill out the paper form. He didn't even bother to look up anything in the system like the competent postmaster in my previous zip code did. If he didn't know what he was doing or talking about, he should have just said that he didn't know and asked someone else in the office to help. I know his information about the paper vs the online form was bogus because I've used the online form for all of my moves since 2002 and never had a problem receiving forwarded mail within a couple of weeks. read more

Ok so it's true, majority of the workers here have a very straight-up, blunt personality. They do not give you much fluff in responses to your question, which can also come off as rude. Wendy is nice and I'm always happy and satisfied when I fall upon her in the line. The other ones are hit or miss-- don't ask too many questions or they will give you some attitude back. My advice is to be ready to also give them the same energy so that you feel better about yourself when leaving. I have not mastered the perfect time to go to the post office. It is either very empty with one person in line or a line out the door. Come ready with a book if it urgent for your package to be out that day! read more

Have only met ONE nice person here. When people said they were just dropping off packages (1/28/22 between 3:50-4:20pm) I watched a female postal employee throw them across the room. OMG After witnessing the above behavior--and in line with my LABELED package--I began to write (only once) Fragile on it. The female employee yelled at me, ..."You can't address anything in line." I responded but made sure not to yell, "I'm not addressing anything." At which point she YELLED, "You can't write anything in here." Ludicrous behavior! According to official rules USPS can fire employees but it could take years. "SEPARATION - DISCONTINUANCE of the employee's service because of unsatisfactory performance." Does that include abusive behavior? I'm sure she HATES her job and maybe people in general--and she sure takes it out on others! Thankfully another gentleman took care of my package. If you want to drop the return box , you have make sure your box have enough taped and close perfectly . Then, you don't have enough. They have no tape to help you. There is an employee here with a serious mental issue. I don't know her name. She's black. Sorry, that as good as I can describe. She is sort of like a mixture the soup nazi and steven wright. It's so hard to describe. But I suspect if you don't do things exactly like she wants, or if you ask a disallowed question, she places your packages and letters into the trash. I wish I was joking. But, I'm not. And it isn't just her. There are others. There's one nice asian lady but I haven't seen her in ages. Most likely, they kicked her out for being nice. I'd give this place 1 star, but this place is so bad that I recommend everyone come here. If you like a comedy of errors, it's a can't miss act. read more

This post office should be one of Dante's Circles of Hell. And yes, although my last experience was during the global covid-19 pandemic, literally EVERY experience I've had here over a decade on living in Wheaton has been bad. I don't know what's worse - the wait time because there is only ever one person at the counter no matter how many folks are in line, the inexcusably mean lady that works there who is so mean you hope she goes on lunch break before you get to her window (you know who you are!), or the feeling that life has coming to a complete standstill while you are trapped in that soulless, creepy building with the peeling purple gel on the windows. I know that post offices just aren't known for their service, but why is this one SO BAD? I will say that on my last visit I got lucky, and the mean lady went on break right before I got to the window and a much nicer lady helped me, but by that time I had spent 45 minutes listening to the mean lady chew people out and I was already so done. So yes, they have at least one nice employee. Doesn't make up for the rest of it. read more

The last time I was there you couldn't even find a pen to write an address with. I recommend driving 10 min to the post office on Veirs mill road. The worst post office I have been at in the United States. The staff is stealing and lying and mistreating customers. i was trying to send a package to Europe. The personal was obviously bothered about me investigating the prices and telling me I am holding up the line. I purchased three cards and an envelope and they just kept the envelope (stole it from me!), refused to refund it, and refused to hand out a receipt. When I ask for the supervisor, I had to wait for a long time in a corner, after 30 min or so the supervisor handed me over my receipt and told me she cannot do anything her staff was saying I had been throwing things at her (pardon me???). It is so hard to believe that this post office even exists in the capital of the United States. read more

I really wish I could give this place ZERO STARS. They lose our mail. Deliver our mail to neighbors. They are rude inside the location. I really wish another post office was in charge of our mail. I've filed complaints with USPS because packages have never made it to my house but the status has been changed to delivered. My sister has had a package not delivered. I just don't understand how the training is so subpar. We had the same person delivering our mail for years. In the past 5/6 years there has been a change in people and it has not been a good one. Oh my goodness. So a year or so ago they dropped my nice earrings in the gutter and ran over them. But this week they didn't deliver my cheaper earrings because I wasn't home at the time. Fair enough. But the "post card" telling me how to pick my package up wasn't legible. So I couldn't do an on-line or verbally reschedule my delivery and the phone number for the post office just rang busy. I did get through to the 800 number and they told me how to pick up my package. We went to the post office, I had my post card in hand so the clerk told me to go "down there". I stood and listened to the stupidest back and forth between a customer and clerk go on forever. Finally clerk turned to me and told me "I can't get your package, did you go to the previous clerk?". Yup and she sent me to you. Oh, she should have called someone over or range a bell. Finally, someone brought me my package. And then I have to write on small board my name, signature, address, blah, blah to get my earring. Yup, like others wish I could do zero stars. And yes, I reported the earrings in the gutter but no one seemed to care. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This post office has "lost" several of my packages and I have only lived in this area for a year and a half. I recently visited this USPS location to look for a package that was supposedly delivered but I never received. I told the one employee why I was there and she asked for my identification card and gave me a pen and paper to "write the number down." I assumed she meant my house number where the package was supposed to be delivered, so that is what I wrote. When she looked at the paper, she rudely and condescendingly said, "I said I need the tracking number." She had never specified what number she meant. I wrote down the tracking number and she took it to the back (along with my ID) and came back a few minutes later and rudely said, "this is NOT the correct tracking number. I can't even find it in the system." I pulled up the tracking on my phone that had the entire tracking number. Again being very rude she said, "this says it was delivered FedEx NOT USPS." I assured her that it initially was shipped with FedEx but was transferred to USPS (I showed her the exact date and time it was transferred from FedEx to USPS and then when it was supposedly delivered to my house). She said I needed to call the company where the package was from because she couldn't help me. Fast forward two hours later, I went in my wallet to get out my ID and saw it wasn't there. I realized she never gave me my ID back. I called the post office and another employee answered (who was also rude and arrogant) and said there was no ID at the office and she quickly hung up on me. The next hour, I searched my pockets, purse, and car and couldn't find my ID. My husband called back and all of a sudden they found my ID (even though an hour ago there was no ID according to the woman over the phone). We went and picked up my ID and the postal employee was not apologetic whatsoever. I am so disappointed in my experience with this USPS location. It's such a disgrace that these are the types of people employed by USPS. To make matters worse, I still have not received my package that was supposedly delivered and no one can tell me where it is. read more

According to USPS tracking a package was delivered to our mailbox at 3:24 p.m. today -- it was not there, nor at my front door, nor at the front door of the house they usually misdeliver my mail to. The last package that USPS misdelivered here was delivered on 16 October according to the tracking info and it showed up at my front door on 25 October. No explanation is every given. I have never visited the Wheaton Post Office when there wasn't a line and typically only one of the customer service positions is staffed. read more

I've been going to this post office for over 10 years. In that time, all the good and friendly customer service representatives have left. The ones that are left have been there for a long time (10+ years) and they all have attitude. They bark at customers, especially ones that don't speak English well and make an extra effort to make you feel uncomfortable. It would be funny if this were a TV show but because it's real life, it makes it sad. Couple tips to avoid the post office. 1) Buy your stamps from Costco. You'll save a few cents and avoid dealing with USPS' rude staff. 2) You can print priority mail postage online and save some money. read more

If there was an award given to the U.S. post office that provided the worst customer service, the post office on Amherst avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland would win it hands down. The 12 year old mail cluster box that served about 20 homes in our townhouse community broke and fell over at the beginning of November, 2015. The Amherst post office, the closest post office to our community, is the one responsible for coordinating its replacement. After almost 3 months of waiting, we have yet to receive a replacement box. And without the cluster box, we're forced to drive to the post office each time we need to pick up our mail. When we call the post office to speak to the supervisor about the status of the replacement, either the line is busy or we're told the supervisor is on some sort of "break". And when we give them our phone number for a call back, guess what? They don't call back! And physically going to the post office for inquiries gets the same results, no available supervisors and no callback. :-( So about 2 weeks ago, we find out that our replacement mailbox is on some sort of backorder. Backorder?? Yes, apparently the postal service doesn't keep a supply of mailboxes in their inventory. Each box must be delicately hand crafted on the north pole by elves. For how long on backorder, I ask?? 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, a year? They don't say... read more

Legit a TERRIBLE post office. There is exactly one employee there who gives a damn. She pays attention to customers and is friendly. Everyone else would rather be doing anything else, and isn't trying to hide it. I've waited in ridiculously long lines that are literally out the door there when they've had only one person working at the counter and I could hear several other employees laughing together in the back and doing nothing to help the long line of customers. I've been there to pick up an international package that I had to retrieve in person because it required delivery signature and I wasn't home when the mail carrier tried to drop it off. When I showed up at the post office with my claim ticket, they spent 20 minutes -- 20 minutes! -- looking for it in the back and came up empty. They asked me to come back the next day so they could "hopefully" find it. Luckily, they did; apparently, my package had gotten "stuck in the cage" and that's why they couldn't find it when I stopped in to get it. What?! Today, I went in to get some holiday stamps. It was 10:30 AM on a Tuesday. When I got there, there was only one person in front of me in line and two people were working at the counter. It seemed like my lucky day! Appropriate staffing to handle what was a pretty straightforward request, for a seasonal item in the appropriate season, with no crowd of customers in sight. In and out, right? Wrong. OF COURSE wrong. When they called me up, I asked for holiday stamps and they told me they were out of them except for one theme. Then another postal worker walked by and said there were more stamps in the back and told the woman helping me to come back with her and get them, because that's clearly a two-person job. They spent 3-4 minutes in back looking for the stamps together, then took their time walking back out with two handfuls of stamps each, then sat together at another computer farther down the counter from where they had been helping me. I proceeded to be ignored for the next 10 minutes -- seriously, I looked at my watch -- until the woman who had originally called me up to the counter gave me a half-assed apology for the wait without looking up from the computer at me. I asked if they were getting close to figuring out what stamps they had, and they didn't respond to me at all. After another couple of minutes, they both got up and walked to the back room without any word to me. This whole time, there was another woman working at the counter who was trying on her own to help the customers who were lining up behind me as they came in, but who at no point acknowledged my existence in any way. The friendly woman I mentioned at the top of my review did check in with me to see if I was being helped, and I said I thought so, but she quickly got pulled away to help people who were coming in to drop off labeled packages and get receipts for them. When the employees with the stamps went to the back for the second time, I had spent 20 fruitless minutes waiting for stamps that were inexplicably difficult to procure or show to me, so I gave up and drove to a different post office 10 minutes away. To hell with this place. If this weren't my local post office, I would NEVER go here. It's a time suck, 100% of the time, where the most basic thing takes an unnecessarily long amount of time for the employees to do, and they are in no hurry to do it. Unless you really love being ignored and/or completely disrespected while you feel the minutes of your life just ticking away, don't go here if you can avoid it. It is the TV stereotype of a post office that you think surely can't exist in real life. Welp, it exists in Wheaton. They're a staff of incompetent, unfriendly, unprofessional wasters of your time. This is the worst Post Office on the planet. The phone number does not work, they deliver to the wrong address and the customer service is a joke. The post office really needs to come and bring in new management and new employees. The people who are supposed to deliver packages lie about delivering them. It is terrible because FedEx contracts with Smart Post which is ran by te post office and they don't deliver in enough time for the apartment building to get it and log it for us but even when they are late they don't just try to deliver the next day they say they delivered it knowing they didn't when all they had to do was say it is at the post office....This location sucks! read more

Very terrible service. I was there to apply for my passport. I scheduled an appointment at 1:45, they told me to arrive there 15 minutes early. So, I was there at 1:30pm. They kept telling me to wait outside of the post office until 2:15 pm. I couldn't waste my time for this bullshit anymore so I left. Never going back there again. They need to hire more experienced employees who know what they're doing. read more

BE AWARE WITH PASSPORT APPLICATIONS! Do no process your passports applications here if possible or you you must make sure the person attending you is an authorized agent to sign the application. This happen to my dad this month April 2016, his passport application was rejected because it wasnt sign by an authorized agent. read more
