In the US, Australia, and NZ, we've had good response from Uber and we relied on it! While in London, not so good!! The driver was NOT at the pickup location indicated but on an obscure side street and we were charged a cancellation fee (later reversed). Again in Montreal, QC, there was an UBER sign on the entrance to our Cruise Terminal. We waited with three other couples that WERE picked up, but we were left behind! Come to find out our driver was "waiting" almost a MILE away! We are 78 and 87 yrs old...not walking that far! Again, a cancellation fee...NOT reversed. This is absolutely terrible. An Uber driver stole my phone, and then Uber banned me from the app so I couldn't even contact them to get it back. On top of that, they overcharge me constantly. Every time I've complained, they insist there was no overcharge, but money has disappeared from my account. They'll even show me a receipt that says a charge was "voided," but the money is still gone. I've reported multiple times that my phone was stolen by an Uber driver, and nothing has been done. Uber charged me $33 for a one way trip to airport which is 8 minutes away. I was shocked but paid thinking that's what it costs. I used Lyft for return trip and it was less than $8. Excellent service, better class of cars, better drivers. Overall a superior company. I'm deleting my lift account as they are sneaky company. My sister preordered a ride to LAX, Los Angeles Airport from my home in Palm Springs. She was willing to pay the exorbitant price because there are few options available. She submitted the request 24 hours in advance. Uber was scheduled to pick her up at 3:00 p.m. At exactly 3:00 p.m. Uber notified her there were no drivers available. We were forced to scramble and I ended up driving her myself, despite the fact that I am very uncomfortable driving in LA. If I hadn't been able to drive her, my sister would have missed her international flight to Sydney, Australia and who knows what that would have cost her. Unbelievable! I am getting tired of Uber drivers who don't speak English. The Uber app does NOT give passengers this option. This is not racist BUT a customer relations & customer SAFETY issue. Last week & again today, my drivers got lost. Today's driver blamed the app. Last week the driver pointed at his phone & said "Manhattan." I knew where I was going BUT he took,a wrong turn. Meanwhile I had NO way of communicating with my driver while he futzed around trying to get unlost. I took an Uber yesterday morning to visit a friend. When I opened the app and put in the address, the charge said $16.00. When I got to my designation, I added the tip like I always do, then visited my friend. When I got home and looked at my reciept, the total was doubled and there were two charges on my credit card as well. I had to go to the grocery store and I didn't have a car to get there so I requested an Uber in the app and no no one picked up the ride and it wasn't like it was early in the morning or late at night. It was midday. so it automatically canceled my ride and I decided to call the request to ride service that Uber has. NEVER AGAIN! The first person I got a hold (I didn't catch her name but I wish I did) I told her my name and my address and I don't know what her problem was. I don't know who took a crap in her coffee or who ran over her puppy that day, but she was so rude and unprofessional, and had such an attitude and just was refusing to put a ride in for me, so I asked if there was someone in charge like a supervisor, and I told her " To be quite frank,It's because I do not appreciate your attitude." She replied with a very rude no and hung up on me. I called again and this time I got a gentleman and he had a very thick accent that was hard to understand, so I told him my name give him my card number and my address. He told my address back to me to make sure he put the right one in and said it should be there in 10 minutes. I'm waiting 20 minutes. Still, no one shows up so I checked to see where my ride was at, HE PUT A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ADDRESS FROM WHAT I TOLD HIM! I canceled the ride. I call back and got connected with the same gentleman and I told him I had to cancel my ride because you put in a wrong address from what I told you and he just started arguing with me and try to say it was my fault and he didn't make a mistake I did and I said you know what I'm not gonna argue with you and I hung up. As a driver I will say Uber is much better than Lyft and yes I drive for both. If you as a rider forget to cancel your ride and the driver shows up but can't get to you home because your in a gated community to correctly cancel your ride, lyft refuses to pay the driver a cancellation fee. The driver just wasted his time. Uber on the other hand will pay the fee and gladly charge the rider . And as far as the scheduled ride issue, I agree Uber did suck at this but recently they fixed it and it works so much better that Lyft now. Now for the question of Uber X as opposed to Uber XL. Do the math , I switched from an X vehicle to an XL because I want more money plain and simple. You entitled riders who never tip figure it out. We see how much we are going to make before we except your ride. If your paying about $8.00 to $10.00 for a ride the driver is only getting about $3.00 to $4.00. And you generally do not tip. I completely agree with other reviewers who think Lyft is a far better company than Uber. I was approved to drive for Uber back in 2014 but never started, because I figured out how dishonest they were being about insurance coverage. I think they fixed that eventually, under pressure, but I was left with an impression of unethical management. As a rider I used to use them both but after Uber began allowing drivers to set their own rates at busy times, things got ridiculous. Why waste your time waiting for the normal rate to become available on Uber again when you can just call Lyft? When Lyft is busy there's (so far) only a longer wait, not a doubled or tripled fare. I advise keeping both apps though in case Lyft's system goes down at a time you really need it. Uber is still better than taxis, I guess. read more

She then called a taxi and they unfortunately couldn't get her to the airport in time, she missed her flight. I got an Uber from the airport to my place. However, when I arrived to my home, the driver's car trunk was stuck with my luggage inside. The driver had me outside in the heat for roughly 2 hours. I even tried multiple things to help him open his trunk. Locksmith couldn't get it open either. The driver took my luggage home with him. Thankfully, he brought it back the next day and even admitted that he wouldn't want to be paid for his service given the inconvenience. I had just returned from out of the country, so I was tired & ready to be in my own comfort. Sadly, uber misinterpreted whatever the driver reported about the ride because they charged me a $20 return fee. I had explain to Uber multiple the situation of how I was inconvenienced and they finally removed the $20. Though, for my inconvenience, I think I should be compensated for the cost of the ride itself. A necessary evil if you don't have a car. In Palm Springs, I made a reservation ahead of time in order to avoid the last minute pricing. I was quoted $ 36 which was already exuberant. 15 minutes before the ride Uber informed me the fare is now $ 52 due to an increase in demand. That is unacceptable. Why should it be my responsibility that the demand has increased? They are putting a burden of added cost on a customer who made arrangements in advance. They need to change their policy if they want to keep their ridership. As a side note, my driver portrayed his previous customers in a bad light the entire time which I find very unprofessional. The Uber website is very user unfriendly. They make it almost impossible to update personal information. There is no support or contact information. This tells me that Uber does not want any contact with clients. I tried several times to update my information and schedule a ride and just encountered more problems on their website. I have not taken Uber in awhile, and used to love it, but this experience was the worst! Not from the driver aspect, they were great, but the billing was terrible. The trip to the Airport was quoted at $21-$25, and when I got there I was billed $94 for a trip 8.9 miles away. They said it was due to "surge" x5+ due to high demand. Strange as my trip was at 5am and I was in a van by myself, no other riders. They finally agreed to give me a credit as there are no refunds, how convenient! On the trip back I was quoted a price then the charge on the actual trip was reading as $26 (normal fare was noted as $19.48), but when I got to my destination it changed to $33, then a few minutes later I was charged $38. It seems like they just pick a charge and up it as they see fit! I sent them a dispute, and was sent a long e-mail with this inserted.... We have no intention of downplaying the severity of the situation by attaching a monetary value to our resolution. They would not have to have any resolution if they set a fair price, and did not try to gouge the customer, with in turn screws the drivers because they loose customers. Always check when you end the trip that the driver actually ends it also. Seldom will the end the trip when you stop they will wait until you are outside. Charged 2+ miles and 12+ min (the driver drove to end of the block did a u turn and retraced the route when almost back to the pickup he ended the trip. He knew exactly what he was doing - he committed Fraud. No accident he retraced his drive. Going $5 and change and why all worked up? Drum roll. coming home $32 and change.
