All around yum! We found this on our way back from a family visit, and it hit the spot. If you can't decide between a bagel or an egg and cheese, you're in the right spot at Village Bagels, who know adults need a good bagel but kids deserve a fun bagel too. The line to the door was a little intimidating (and it was out the door when I was leaving), but the selection was great. Though not every bagel place has jalapeño bagels, Village does, and the scallion cream cheese was nicely balanced. The lox on my sesame bagel wasn't stingy, and the little one's rainbow bagel (which every bagel place nowadays should have) was that colorful. The atmosphere isn't glamorous but if you're eating a bagel, down to earth is perfect. That, and there's a few tables available if you don't want onion smell in your car. I'm giving the bagels 4 1/2 stars. The line to/out the door wasn't too long, and the folks behind the deli were friendly despite the line, so five stars to them! Let's make it six stars since they're a local spot: the lady behind the counter correctly knew the coffee order of my fellow customer before he ordered/confirmed it. In all, good find! read more

In a word: YUCK. Two words? STEER CLEAR. My husband wanted a bagel, so I stopped in here for the first time on my way home from the gym. I saw a line out the door, so I figured that was a good sign! When it was my turn to enter the establishment, I was immediately struck by the complete lack of care that was put into the space. It felt dark and dirty with stuff thrown everywhere haphazardly. The salad case is the first thing you see - extremely unappetizing- with milk and other stuff randomly crowding the food. Hmmm... but I wasn't ordering a salad, and I'd already waited this long, soooo... I hung in there. I ordered an everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese - my husband's standard bagel order. When it came time to cash out, my cashier was more interested in chatting with another customer than completing my transaction as I stood there - cash in-hand - waiting for her to direct her attention back to giving me a total and keep the line moving. Now - I could deal with all of this if the bagel was good. Unfortunately, it was not. Before I could even share my experience with my husband, he said the bagel was bad. He didn't eat the other half, which I've never seen him do. Not remotely close to the NY bagels we had growing up (which we recognize is a high standard). BUT! The jalapeño cream cheese was brown in color - EW!?!?! And he said it lacked flavor (basically impossible with jalapeños) and tasted old. It looked so gross and crusty I couldn't even bring myself to try it. So even though I drive by this place five times a week, I will never return. I love this store. I love the bagels. The staff are all extremely nice. However, the prices are very high. And the worst thing about the store is that they don't post their prices, so you can get sticker shock when they ring you up at the register. There should be a law in CT whereby you have to post your prices. I purchased a pound of tuna fish and a few bagels and was absolutely floored when I was told my total price. I then asked how much the tuna fish cost and they told me $17.99/lb. This is insane. The price of tuna salad at their sister store in Westport is only $13.99/lb. They charge more money for their tuna than Whole Foods and Garelick and Herb, which both are VERY pricey stores (but they do have delicious, quality food and I know in advance what I am paying.) I will continue to buy my bagels here, but I will NEVER ever buy tuna there again. And if the owner of the store is reading this, PLEASE POST YOUR PRICES. SHAME ON YOU. read more

This place is a gem imo. I recently moved to CT and decided to try this place. Parking can be chaotic at times as they share parking with other businesses. I've been to a few other VBs in the area, but have enjoyed this one the most. It has a good feel to it. It does get crowded at times, but staff is friendly and fast. Seating is available, but it's not a big place and they have 1 good sized tv, usually with ESPN on. They specialize in bagels/sandwich type foods, and they do it well! Not only can you buy their signature hot or cold sandwiches, but you can also just buy meats, cheeses and other deli items. Bagel toppings are good and very good portions. Prices are reasonable. They have a great variety of items on their menu. I've ordered their bagels, sandwiches and smoothies, all good quality stuff. I recommend the piña colada smoothie. They also have cookies, scones, cakes, all rival similar items on the Starbucks' menu. Overall very good experiences here, not half-assed prepared sandwiches from Subway. Great bagels, this is a place you'd probably plan on visiting regularly, for what their niche is, they are good! I often go to the Village Bagel in Westport and Fairfield, so I was slightly disappointed when I went to this one in Norwalk and had a different experience from what I was used to. I ordered a large salad with a scoop of chicken salad on it. The price of the large salad was $7.99 and the scoop of chicken salad was an additional $3. For $10.99 I was expecting a substantial salad. Unfortunately, many of the choices in the salad bar were empty (for instance, there were no cucumbers left). When they gave me the scoop of chicken salad (which was an additional $3), they probably only gave me a bit more than 1/4 cup. It was barely anything, and I still felt really hungry afterwards. Stopped here on a drive south for one thing- the rainbow bagels! Having tried the rainbow bagels from the Bagel Store in Brooklyn we had to check these out. We got them to go and had them the next morning. They were good but lacked any flavor, just were a plain bagel with food dye. The ones in Brooklyn were flavored which I prefer. Though rainbow colored bagels are still fun :) To have for lunch on the road I got a pumpernickel bagel with vegetable cream cheese and my fiance got everything with bacon, egg and cheese.
