Ice Cream Desert (Chef recommends to eat all three together)
    Jeremy L.

5/31/2025 - Had a Happy Hour 8-course Omakase Tasting, and this is a good deal. At least six of waiters and waitresses came to out table to deliver each course with an explanation - my guess is that the Uchi philosophy is whoever is available, serve its customers right away to maximize the flow or speed of dining experience, instead of one waiter or waitress for fixed tables, which often will let diners wait for a long time. I also noticed that other customers received a similar treatment with many different servers. Chef recommends to eat all three items (Ice Cream + ice cream ball, etc.) all together to get the best tasting at the last course, desert - indeed. Did not take pictures for 4 pieces sushi, a 6-piece sushi roll & broccoli tempura because I did not intend to write a review. The miso soup is a little bit salty, I only finished 1/3 of the soup. We got a free street parking on Sunday. A $20 valid parking is available. Note: This review is only for a Happy Hour 8-course Omakase Tasting dining experience based on the value for money!

We had a phenomenal experience here tonight and the staff is excellent especially Casper the manager! We loved our sushi chef, Jeremy. The dishes are so creative and unique. I am very particular and gluten free and i was very impressed with each course. Every dish we had was so delicious and beautifully prepared. I highly recommend the cool section on the menu. The tequila drinks are so interesting and not too sweet. We are so happy to have dined here tonight!

This place has to be my favorite spot for sushi ever, if not overall for everything. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience and stuff are very cozy and professional, it is perfect for a date night or dinner with friend.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Let me tell you about the food, it's best tuna roll you will ever have! They have specific but still wide selection. Food is always very fresh and has pairings with sauce or smallest little stuff you would never expect which makes the taste pop! Would recommend with all 10. Can't wait to be back!

Late review in my drafts. Everything was amazing I came for diners I can't remember everything I ordered but I definitely want to come back let's start off with service. Kennedy our server was informative, funny and attentive 100/10. Also I was celebrating my birthday and they had a card I wasn't expecting it but it definitely made the experience much better honestly [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is perfect for a date night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great dishes and cocktails all around. I highly recommend it. I'll definitely be back I've heard they have a happy hour

Updating this because the owner responded below to email them so they can make it right and they never even emailed back. Their service is absolutely awful!

It was an amazing experience for my partner and I. We were celebrating his birthday and it so happened to be DineLa week so we decided to do that set menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar if you are ordering sushi so you can talk to the sushi chef about what you like/dislike or any other dietary restrictions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The sushi chef was super friendly and nice and we had great service throughout our meal. The sushi chef made our night extra special with throwing in a free time for the birthday boy. We loved everything we got from the dinela, it was a great deal. I definitely will come back again and sit at the sushi bar.

Perhaps I had too high expectations for this place, but I thought it wasn't over the top amazing, but simply good. The creativity of the dishes didn't match the aesthetics of the dishes. Here's what I had: Oysters Hama chili Temaki Crispy pork belly Wagyu tartare bite Chef's choice sushi Citrusy Crudo Chocolate cake dessert I really wanted to like this place but everything tasted average and none of the dishes really quite stood out to me. The service was amazing but perhaps I should try other things on the menu before I really make up my mind.

Uchi is an easy choice for a great happy hour and even better service. My friends and I went back last night and received stellar service from Bill. We've had him as our server before and he is just the best. He's friendly, gives genuine recommendations and made our dinner so enjoyable. We can't wait to come back again soon!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The food and the ambiance were really good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely worth the splurge! Our server, Uche was very attentive (as was the rest of the staff) and he helped choose our food for us (somakase). The desserts were good too. I can't wait to come back and try the happy hour and more menu items.

Greek black bream and Hamachi yellowtail

Uchi!! I'm slightly disappointed because I really wanted to love this sushi spot. Let's start from the beginning, we made a same day reservation for a Saturday evening and were seated within minutes, which was great. The interior décor is intentional, modern, and unique. The outdoor area looked cute with overhead heaters, though I'm not sure how effective they actually are. We sat inside near the door, which ended up being extremely cold, and Jeremy was our server, very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Unfortunately, the pacing of the meal really missed the mark. Food came out extremely slow, about 15 minutes between each roll. It may have been an off night, as the table next to us also experienced a delay with their drinks and ended up being offered upgraded liquor. We ordered the Greek black bream nigiri, hamachi yellowtail, cucumber salad, scallop, bluefin tuna, and cod. The cucumber salad was the first dish we tried and it was incredible, so flavorful that we were instantly on cloud nine and felt optimistic about the rest of the meal. The sushi itself was fresh, but the long wait times took away from the experience. About 35 minutes after ordering, we were told the cod was no longer available, which should have been communicated much sooner. While we were deciding on a replacement, another server, who hadn't been by all night came over and accidentally poured regular water into my girlfriend's sparkling water and nearly knocked over my wine glass. It felt awkward and careless, especially since the sparkling water was on her side of the table, while I was the one drinking still water. Jeremy did try to make it right by sending over an extra roll, which we appreciated, but unfortunately it ended up being our least favorite of the night. So we didn't eat it, and felt bad for wasting food. The only reason I didn't give three stars is because there was an attempt to save the experience, even though it ultimately fell short. We ended up heading to another sushi spot afterward to satisfy our cravings. Small details matter. Untimely pacing, missteps, and lack of communication can really impact an otherwise promising dining experience. Definitely room for improvement.

My wife and I visited for an early evening dinner. Disclosure, we've also eaten at the Uchi in Miami so we came aware in advance of what to expect. Beautifully prepared dishes, my wife absolutely loves this place. She'd give it six stars in her review. So why only four stars from me? Simply stated, this restaurant is an echo chamber. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like the modern design but I was virtually unable to hear our table conversation while competing with what almost sounded like a football match occurring in our midst.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (FYI, the Miami location has a very different, much more intimate aesthetic.) We splurged on the Chef's Tasting menu. Every dish, OK, almost every dish was delicious. I'm not going to name them, you can view the photos. (Did the chef truly catch the rockfish himself? Our server said he did!). The one exception was our very last plate. Seemingly ironic for a Sushi restaurant, our Wagyu Beef course was well overdone. The server apologized and offered to replace it but we were quite honestly full by then so declined. Instead, the chef gave us a significant gift certificate for a future visit. We now happen to have a recently opened Uchi in Charlotte so the certificate will be put to good use. All in all, we still enjoyed our meal. Recommended.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The West Hollywood location of Uchi matches the very calm and elegant vibe of its sister location in Austin.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had booked an early seating since we were going to a concert down the street, which meant we were able to partake in the happy hour tasting menu. The staff were super friendly and very amenable with my allergy making sure to double check with the kitchen and bar. I love their happy hour, highlights include the old fashion, brussel sprouts, scallop nigiri, beef bowl, banana bread dessert. Can't wait to go back.

    Jasmine B.

I've been a fan of Uchi since my first visit in austin nearly two decades ago. The LA location delivers all that the brand represents. I love the ambiance. It is the perfect spot for date night or for any occasion. I was blown away by the service. Empty dishes removed immediately, water always available, multiple servers and runners. Absolute perfection. Sushi chef Ray was amazing. Everyone was receptive to my likes and items that weren't my favorite and adjusted accordingly. I ordered omakase tasting menu and while I prefer an all sushi omakase experience, I tried the variety option that offered a wealth of hot and cold options. It included an oyster, sushi, tempura, sashimi, pork belly, grilled salmon, and hand rolls. More than enough food and provides a good foundation of the menu. My favorites were the sushi options because they were unique with a hint of citrus. Tempura has never been more delectable. While I wasn't a huge fan of some options, the service and ambiance really won me over. I would certainly revisit and try the all sushi omakase. Bonus, all the dishes were beautiful.

    What time/day is happy hour?

    5:00 to 6:00. Drink up.

Are there options for guests who don't like or want sushi?

Yes. You can duck the fish if you want. But, it is, in fact, a Sushi place, so why bother? Go to Matu and Wagyu Beef till you pass out.

Is happy hour in the whole restaurant or bar only?

    Whole restaurant

Is there a dress code? Or can I wear a nice shirt, jeans and sneakers

No dress code. People were dressed nice, but it's LA so sneakers will always fly

Does it cost money to make a reservation? When is the latest i can cancel without penalty? Thanks

No cost to make the reservation but I believe they ask for a credit card to hold the reservation. I think the penalty is 24 hours or less with $25/person charge

Approx how much is the omakase tastings?

All 3 Omakase is listed as "Mrkt" on the menu. This means they likely charge you the menu price of whatever they serve in it and that it must change nightly. On my evening I ordered the Chefs tasting menu and was charged per item instead of an…

Do you have an outdoor seating? Do you allow dogs if there is an outdoor seating?

    Yes and yes!

It was a little before noon and there was only one party in the whole restaurant. We got seated right away and it was by the front window for everyone to see. The menu had a lot of options and priced like all other places or I'm just getting used to the prices these days. They did have a lunch special for $20 and you can get a small pho, and then some other choices and then a drink. I couldn't tell you what the other choices were because I didn't order it. The waitress was efficient and got the job done. She did get a little overwhelmed since after 1230pm, everyone decided to grab lunch. Here's what we ordered: lunch special with small bowl of beef pho, a beef banh mi and unsweetened black tea. The hubs said that his pho was decent, the flavor was simple and didn't have that deep rich flavoring like other pho bowls he has had. The banh mi had great bread and the filling was pretty flavorful. The black tea was good. I had the build your own pho because I have to have vegetable broth but I added in chicken meatballs and shrimp. The broth was pretty tasteless so I had to add in some hoisin sauce, and sriracha. There were other condiments but I was too lazy to grab it from the other table. That helped out with the soup. The chicken meatballs were questionable as in I wasn't sure if it was chicken. There were plenty of shrimp and they added pieces of chicken. The noodles had a nice chew to them. Overall the pho was okay but it didn't hit the pho craving/spot. We also ordered pork egg rolls and they were interesting. They weren't crunchy at all. It was a bit oily and at one point, I wasn't sure if a part of it was cooked. There was more other filling than meat. The nuoc mam tasted like watered down fish sauce. I guess I was so hungry that I didn't mind it. Overall, the food was just okay. Nothing exciting to report and unfortunately I wouldn't go back.

I finished with a salmon hand roll and upgraded to salmon belly for a small upcharge, which was absolutely worth it.
