Today I went with a large group of adults and kids to Udder Heaven Ice Cream Retreat to learn how to make ( and eat) Ice Cream. Bob did an amazing job of explaining the process. Then he set us up to make our own Ice Cream using three different methods. The kids were obviously engaged in learning the process and were even more entranced by the eating of it. We have been going here for many years because we camp at Bar Harbor Campground which is directly in back. They are always fantastic & with big servings!! I had their Lemon Gingersnap ice cream last night ~ oh yum yum yum. Thank you for all the interesting flavors ~ although the classics are always there as well! Hubby liked Mt. Desert better than here but I totally disagree! It's about 15 minutes from Bar Harbor and worth the drive. There is a ton of variety for ice cream , toppings and sundaes. They have seating outside with both adult and child Adirondack chairs. Price is great and is across from the mini golf so makes for a fun evening. Plenty of parking too. read more

I have reviewed this company before and the owner made it very clear that you are not allowed to not like his ice cream. I found the consistency, slimy....for lack of a better word...it stretches when you put your spoon in the bowl. The taste isnt bad but the consistency was odd. He had many explanations and even offered me a class if ever I came back. Bottom line! I have a right to my opinion - i have eaten a lot of ice cream in my life...nothing has had this consistency....the end. LOL read more

I only ever get vanilla sort serve and Udder Heaven had the worst vanilla soft serve I ever had and I threw it away after a few bites. It was sour but totally flavorless otherwise. They also wouldn't give two different kinds of ice cream in small cups although small cups has two scoops in them. Overall everything was below average. Edited after business's response: I got 4 small ice creams in a cup $4.50 each (I think) and I asked if 2 can have 2 flavors. They said no and then the small ice creams basically had two scoops of the same ice cream. And I said out loud, "wow, these have two scoops in them, why couldn't they be different flavors?" To which I got no response. I certainly wasn't told that I could pay 45 cents for an extra scoop. As for soft serve, I don't know what to tell you. I tasted it, my husband tasted it, we didn't like it. We have been on a road trip for the last 3 weeks in VT, NH and ME and had soft serve vanilla in every town we visited. I don't think disliking an ice cream requires a conversation with management. I'm just putting out my opinion out there for other customers, which is the point of Yelp. We won a small soft serve ice cream from the mini golf across the street. The small cone was enormous. The menu was quite difficult to navigate but my daughter enjoyed her vanilla ice cream. This place is a fantastic eatery if you are in the mood for ice cream or coffee. The ice cream is some of the best I have ever had and I know that because I did not get an upset stomach. With a unique hand-washing Cow at the entrance, this place is one that cannot be missed. If you are a tourist in Maine, I would definitely go with the Maine Blueberry or the Blueberry Cheesecake-- they are the signature flavor of Maine.
