Take this review with a grain of salt because this is my one and only experience with Indian food, so I have nothing to compare it to. The location is nice enough but I got the impression that a majority of their business is take-out and to-go orders. The interior of the restaurant on the day of my visit must have been upwards of 85 degrees, it was sweltering and uncomfortable. As someone new to Indian food the young lady working the counter asked me to have a seat on one of the booths and then came and sat down with me and literally went through every item on the menu, front and back and explained every single dish. It was both awesome and overwhelming because they have a large menu. I finally gave up creative control and let her pick a few items for me based on what she recommended. I ended up with some chicken tiki masala which was absolutely amazing and bursting with flavor, and also some samosas with a chutney dipping sauce. The samosas were also really good and I would order them again in a heartbeat. They gave me a complementary mango lassi to drink while I waited on my food which was pretty tasty and the perfect treat to cool me down from the heat! Great place for a meal packed with rich flavors and deliciousness. Their menu is full of tasty plates that have generous portions. Even for Indian their food runs spicy so I order 1 star here when I usually order 2 star at other places. Their staff is very kind, friendly, helpful and attentive. They serve their meals quickly - not much wait time. They refill drinks quickly too. The atmosphere is receptive and tasteful. It also feels very clean. I'm done with this place. The food is excellent, but I can't handle their inconsistency. Every time we go, our food never comes out at the same time. The first time we went, my husband's Lamb Biryani came out in 5 minutes. He waited and waited and waited for my food to arrive. Finally, I just told him to eat without me. 25 minutes later, my korma was served. They were apologetic, and we chalked it up to a bad night. But, every time we go, it's the same thing. They either forget someone's food. Or our entrees come out before the appetizers. Or the spice level is way off. Tonight, we took my parents here because they live in a food desert, but love Indian food. My mother cannot handle anything hot. So, we made sure to ask for no spice or very mild. And guess what? They forgot her order! So, here we go again! Almost everyone is done eating and one person is still waiting. When they brought out her food, it was at least a level 2. It was so spicy, she couldn't eat it. We were going to complain, but our waitress was no where to be found and we were running late to another engagement. I know restaurants are still struggling right now and we try to always be kind, forgiving, and understanding. But, I'm going to take my business somewhere else. read more

Stopped in to Ugadi today for lunch. I have Celiac disease, thus I cannot eat gluten. Therefore, I find myself eating a lot of Indian food as most of the dishes are naturally gluten free. Ugadi was nice enough to label all the dishes on the menu that are GF, and I really appreciate that! My favorite Indian dish is Biryani, so I had to try that first. My absolute favorite at this point in my life is Biryani vijayawada. Ugadi doesn't have that, but the do have a "boneless Biryani". Unfortunately, that is not GF. I did try the Dum chicken biryani and asked for SPICY. The dish was served how I would expect, with the chicken buried in the rice. The aroma was pretty good. I felt it could use a bit more herbs. The rice was cooked well. The spice level wat maybe a medium? Medium low? Not very spicy, no runny nose. They did include a hard boiled egg, which I can do with or without really. Since it's not cooked in the dish, it didn't absorb the flavors and it just tasted like a plain hard boiled egg which I didn't understand. It was served with raita and salan. The salan was good, but the raita was kinda gross. VERY watery. When it was brought out it was separated and the top half was watery, and the bottom kinda not watery. I stirred it and give it a taste and.. meh? Didn't kill me. Didn't taste good either. The service was fast and friendly. The dish came out amazingly fast. I'm accustomed to Biryani taking 10-15 minutes. This came out in maybe 3 minutes. Crazy fast, which was nice because lunch break. Overall i'm giving 4 stars for the good, fast service and good Biryani. Improving on the raita and adding some more aromatics to the dish would bring it up to 5. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying some more of my Indian favorites there! read more

I love their food BUT- I am so happy to know that Murfreesboro has good Indian food. As someone who doesn't eat meat, it's important to me to that an Indian Restaurant clearly maps out things that are veggie and vegan. I've lived in big cities across the US and Ugadi's truly stands on its own as being some of the most delicious Indian Food I've ever had. Now, the only reason I knocked a star off is because the language barrier has effects my order both times I've gone in and I've paid for the mistake both times. The first time we went in we ordered 2 dishes and some samosas. What came out was the 2 dishes we ordered and something completely different that was not samosas. We asked what it was and low and behold it was a language barrier thing and she thought we ordered something else. All good, however we never got our samosas and the dish wasn't taken off our check and was far more expensive. All in all though, the food is delicious so this wasn't going to keep me away. The next time I came in, I ordered takeout for lunch. I ordered with a man and kept having to point to the menu because I could see he was giving me chicken tikka instead of paneer tikka. Once it was settled. I waited outside for 10 minutes ( he said it would be about 10 minutes) when I came back inside there was a lady standing there. She seemed surprised to see me and when I told her I was picking up food she was very pushy and asked who I ordered with. I described the man and told him he was in the kitchen. She went to the kitchen, came back and began ringing me up for chicken tikka... I explained again that that wasn't what I ordered so I had to reorder and wait for another 20 minutes this time. I tried to pay with cash and the lady at the register who was very kind, was new to American money and gave me the wrong change back. I kindly told her what I needed and she was hesitant to give it to me and asked if I just had a card which I actually didn't at the moment. I tried helping her from across the register and she handed me some money and my food. when I got to my car I counted the change back and it was still off by a few dollars. My mistake for not counting it right there I guess but I didn't want to offend her. I had asked for a 2 in the spiciness category and when I looked at my receipt it said "No Spice like for child".... This bugged me.. I'm a petite lady but clearly not a child and if a customer tells you what spice level they want just give them that and PLEASE be kind enough to not insult them on a receipt. I get that they are new and working out some kinks and I'm absolutely willing to try them again because it truly is delicious but I'm going in knowing full well I may get the wrong order and I should pay with a card unless I want to get shorted on my change. read more

Very good. I travel 9 states for work and I go to an Indian restaurant about once a month. Most of the time there are more empty seats than people. Staff that are decent and the food is good. When I arrived at Ugadi it's small but it was packed. I had two servers in good moods frequently checking on me, and the food was very good. From a restaurant standpoint I would say this is the 2nd best I've encountered so far (Oh' Calcutta in Winston-Salem, NC is #1 I've been to). This beats any I've been to in Nashville, so a solid find for Murfreesboro. read more

My wife and I decided a night out at an Indian restaurant would be great. We walked in and was greeted by the staff, we were seated immediately. They told us about the specials. We ordered the Chicken Curry and Lamb Biryani. We added the garlic nan and butter nan. When we received our meals, there was enough food for 4 people. Having dined at hundreds of Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi restaurants in several countries, I can say this was some of the worst food I have ever tasted. Naan was soft and worse than frozen. Butter Chicken was sweet and lacking authenticity and the chicken was way overcooked. Chana Masala was sweet and creamy, way off from authentic flavors. Protein portions were incredibly small and low quality in our opinion. The water has a mold smell and off taste. We decided not to drink the water it was so repulsive. We were floored when an employee told us to stack dirty appetizer plates on a nearby table. There was one employee doing all the hard work- we tipped her personally. The chicken 65 was made with dark meat and was very wet with an unusual sauce and again lacking authenticity. Based on the responses to other reviews, the owner does not seem to take responsibility for their restaurant's problems and blames it on new staff. It seemed as if most of the employees were new to restaurants in general. At peak lunch time, there was no business to speak of. I certainly will not dine here again, and I would be surprised if they are still in business a year from now. read more

Received chicken tiki marsala with rice and nan but Everything was so sweet it was like I was eating dessert. The chicken tiki marsala was sweet and spicy but not in a good way the chicken was very stringy. The nan was like I was eating pancakes or French toast it was so sweet but it was also very oily. The rice tasted so strongly of cinnamon you could no longer taste the rice anymore. I doubt I will be going back for a second try. read more

My family came to Ugadi for lunch after seeing lots of positive reviews and it did not disappoint! My six year old had the chicken Hakka noodles and we all kept stealing some they were so good. I got the butter chicken which was amazing and my husband had the lamb saag which he ate up. My older son enjoyed his lamb biryani, but it was a bit spicy. We catered trays of Biryani, chicken Korma and Bhindi masala for our family reunion. Thw food was excellent, spices authentic with lots of coconut chutney, and tamarind chutney. Ahhh this place is SO good. I got the paneer tikka masala (xtra spicy) with garlic naan, and it was delicious. The sauce is very flavorful and the rice was perfectly cooked (fluffy, fragrant, moist). Very sad that I didn't get to try the samosas, but I'm only one person. I'm in town for less than 24 hours & very glad to have stumbled upon this place.
