Place is very busy, good sign. We waited about 10-15 minutes. Not too bad. Elizabeth came right over. Took our order and answered questions. Food comes out quickly even as busy as they were. Tried the ugly dumpling sampler and the pork dumplings. Both excellent. Loved the garlic string beans too. Shumai was also excellent. This place is pretty big! The entrance kind of tricks you into thinking it would be small. This place used to be a discount cosmetic/toiletries store. We ordered green beans, the soup dumpling sampler, and the chicken wontons. It was a bit pricey for the quantity of food specifically for the soup dumplings and chicken wontons; however, I am comparing it to Chinatown (i.e. I am unfair!). The chicken wontons never came after an hour, so when our server brought the check, I mentioned it. It then arrived at the end, and we got to go containers. The server offered a to go bag, and we said yes, and it never came either LOL so we just bounced. I try to avoid sit down places and do take out, so I was surprised the default tip option was 22% o.O welp! Felt bad so just did 22%. Overall food was okay, but I don't think I will go again. I dined in with my friends and was truly impressed. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. The wait time was about 20 minutes, which wasn't bad at all, and it was well worth it. The food was excellent. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and it was incredibly flavorful. We also shared a few other dishes, including the cucumber salad, which was refreshing and well seasoned, the popcorn chicken which was crispy and packed with flavor, and the stir-fried rice which paired perfectly with everything else. We also tried the tonkotsu ramen, and the broth was rich and comforting with great depth of flavor. My favorite appetizer was the cream cheese crab rangoons, and the desserts were just as memorable. We tried the cheesecake and the chocolate chip lava cookie, and both were beautifully presented and delicious. It's also a family-style restaurant, which I really enjoyed. The dishes come out as they're ready and are perfect for sharing, with portions that can easily serve at least two people. Our server, Diana, did a great job. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Overall, it was a great dining experience and I will definitely be coming back. read more

We got there at 5pm and there was already a wait. Only about 20 mins. They text us when our table was ready. Everything was very clean. Service was great. We had never been to this restaurant before so our waiter made some recommendations which was helpful. The food is served family style so when its done it comes out. Everything was delicious. The pork belly was so tender and it was like eating it on a cloud. The soup dumplings were tender and delicious and fun to eat. We had the ribs as well, meat was so tender it was falling off the bone. Oh and we can not forget the pork fried rice. Like no other fried rice I've had! Prices were good. There was still a line when we left. We will defiantly be back to try some more items. read more

It just opened a few weeks ago and you would have no idea. They are already running so smoothly. We sat at the bar since it is first come first serve and it honestly made the experience even better. Our server Paulina was so friendly and knowledgeable and walked us through the entire menu. In the middle of the restaurant is the bao lab where you can see the cooks making the bun, dumplings and wontons! Very cool ambiance. I started with the mango black tea and my boyfriend the peach green tea which was freshly brewed and super refreshing. The cucumber salad had the perfect light kick even for someone who does not like spicy food. The ugly bao with pork belly was excellent with a fluffy bun and perfectly cooked pork. The BBQ pork buns were also fluffy and flavorful, though I would have liked a bit more filling. I highly recommend the soup dumpling sampler. My favorites were the pork and truffle, pork shrimp and spinach, and chicken. Each had flavorful broth and light airy dumplings. My boyfriend enjoyed the spicy chicken wontons but would have preferred a little less sauce. The pork fried rice was a standout and I would go back just for that. The pork was thin and crispy and the rice was packed with flavor without feeling heavy. I would absolutely go back but definitely go early or late. We went to the Ugly Dumpling, Morris Plains, NJ and are so glad we did. Absolutely beautiful interior and spacious. Tried several appetizers. Favorites were braised ribs, pork dumplings, pork soup dumplings, shumai, and spicy chicken wontons. The main entrees were excellent especially the Mongolian beef, sesame noodles, and fried rice. The beef was so tender and everything we ate was so flavorful. Desserts were Peanut butter bomb, Chocolate chip lava cookie, and NY cheesecake. All delicious. Enjoyed the presentation of all items as well as the quality of the ingredients, Best of all was the service and every staff member was great from the moment you entered. Will be returning. Wasn't what we expected wasn't that great but I know it's a new venue, but they were extremely unorganized. had to ask the bartender to clean the bar as she was putting plates up for us on a dirty bar. Soup dumplings were not great. The dumplings were not that great. They were better at ShopRite. Cucumber salad was average the vegetable noodles you can make yourself they did not have many vegetables in them very disappointed in this place. First let me say I can't wait to go back! What we had- cucumber salad - delish! I usually like my cucumbers sliced thinly in a cuke salad but this was really good even though they were quite thick. for our "main" meal we ordered pork dumplings-delish, pork & crab soup dumplings - good but fishier tasting than I expected, pork soup dumplings-delish and chicken fried noodles - again, delish. We were stuffed BUT we had to get the chocolate chip lave cookie sundae thing and OMG. We have been dreaming about that thing ever since! Highly recommend this restaurant! We are so happy that Ugly Dumpling is now a 15 minute drive away compared to driving down to Edison. We been to the Edison location before and the morris plains location is the same quality (maybe even a bit better). We got there around 5 and waited 35 minutes for a table which is exactly what the estimated. Our server Alice was fantastic, gave great recommendations and excellent service. The food came out so quickly, hot and fresh. This place is the best option for going family style, sharing a little bit of everything. Highlights were the pork dumplings, the pork chop fried rice and the salt and pepper popcorn chicken. I normally hate pork chops, but the pork chop that comes with the fried is the best one I've ever eaten. Crispy, juicy and perfectly seasoned! I cannot recommend this place enough and I expect to become a regular! read more

Okay so the nice thing is we went at lunch time and had no wait and got to sit down immediately. A few thoughts: 1. They have a honey tea/lemonade that I guess you can add flavor too. We weren't going to but then the server asked us if we wanted a flavor and so we said sure add mango. 2$!!! Extra. Plus the drink was so sweet it was kind of gross. 6$ for the tiniest, sweetest tea filled with mostly ice. Skip those ! 2. Nothing marked spicy on the menu is spicy. I like spicy food but I don't wanna be in pain when eating. So when I tell you these didn't even have a hint of spice, none! Just tastes like soy sauce. When I asked the waitress if the wontons were supposed to be spicy she said "that why there's chili oil on the table" okay cool....and honestly the wonton wrapper was really chewy and little off putting. Not much filling. 3. The pork buns were awesome. So were the chicken stir fry noodles, the fried chicken dumplings 4. Soup dumplings, not much soup! Kind of dry. Very thick dough and chewy. We did the sampler. They honestly all taste exactly the same aside from the truffle one. Don't think it's worth the up charge to do the sampler. Plus I opened the chicken soup dumpling and saw pink chicken. They dye the dumplings which I'm not a fan off, so couldn't tell if it was raw chicken or dyed chicken. Either way I spit it out. Overall, ok! Definitely not a problem when you get to sit down right away. I wouldn't say it's worth waiting an hour or more for a table. Most of the food is comparable to any Chinese or Japanese restaurant in the area. We will come back and try more of the entrees. Side note. I notice some of the reviews the dishes look different from what I saw in store. For example, the sauce looks completely different in the wontons in someone's review from 12 days ago to today. The waitress mentioned they changed the recipes. Maybe that's why the quality of sauces has gone down. read more

The first time I visited Togo when it first opened, I spent around $200. The service was great, and I sat by the bar, had a few drinks, and waited for my food. Today, I planned to do the same. I wanted to sit at the bar, ordered a tea, and wait for my food. However, I was turned down because I said I wanted to sit at the bar an order food to go. I understand that if it was a call-ahead order, would decline my service that could overwhelm the kitchen . But this wasn't the case. I think your host missed the point. I didn't feel the same level of welcome that I did on my first visit, and I won't be recommending my family or friends after this experience. read more

One of my friends and I came here on 5/1 after 8pm. When our waitress Leisha introduced herself, we asked her for recommendations as we'd never been there before. The Mongolian beef was one of her suggestions, and we both chose that. I had the fried chicken dumplings, and my friend had steamed dumplings. The food was so freakin good, it blew my mind!! It's been a while since I've gone out to dinner and been impressed. It seems so many restaurants don't put much effort in their food anymore, whether it's a nice sit down restaurant or a franchise. Our meal had peppers and onions with the beef that was perfectly crispy, just the way we liked them. The rice was cooked to perfection. My fried chicken dumplings were crispy on the outside, and moist and tasty inside! I ordered a toasted coconut mojito. Oh my freakin God!!! I know a good cocktail!! I love a good cocktail!! This was the best damn cocktail I ever had in my life!! I have to say our waitress was so sweet, she made it such a pleasant experience. She made sure we had everything we wanted without hovering. I forgot to take my leftovers with me, and when we were walking to the car, someone came running up to us...It was our beautiful waitress Leisha with my food. I couldn't believe she did that.
