So many options for dinner in Napa, we settled on Tarla. Very friendly staff greeted and sat us. There were also several options that looked good to us. Having just returned from an all-day wine tour, we decided to split an appetizer and an entree. We love lamb when it is prepared well. The Lamb Kebobs caught our eye and we went for it. And, we started with the warm hummus and pita bread. The quantity was just right for us. The hummus was very good. We have a place in Corvallis, Oregon that prepares the best hummus we've ever had in our lives, so the bar is high. Tarla's hummus was excellent with just the right amount of smokiness. The lamb kebobs were also tasty. And the roasted veggies with them were great. Nice combo of spices. Note: there are only two kebobs. We weren't massively hungry, so it was just right, but it may not be enough for you. Servers were attentive but didn't hover. A very nice experience! read more

My husband and I did a San Fran to Portland meandering road trip. Every day we reassessed our favorites. After 12 days, and at least as many stops, Tarla remains our top spot. Went here with a friend during Bottlerock. Right in the heart of downtown near amazing shops & a cute neighborhood. Loved the truly authentic spin Tarla has for its aesthetic decor & also true Mediterranean dishes! Each hour for brunch/lunch and dinner have a separate menu so look in advance if there is something particular you would like. I got to try the Octopus Salad during their brunch/lunch hours & wasn't disappointed. Our waitress was beyond accommodating and lovely to help give us pointers towards great dishes. (Btw, the Octopus salad was a fan favorite from a former food critic). I loved my dish because it was the perfect amount of citrus blend with a balsamic background to remind you of Greek dishes. Everything was cooked to perfection & there wasn't much of a wait time. Parking can get a little crowded outside so I would recommend their parking garage just 1-2 blocks away and has plenty of parking. Had a very good experience enjoying delicious food with friends and having Kim as our lovely server! The pan roasted salmon, barley kale salad and warm hummus all had very unique flavors and the fish was NOT dry, yay! I cannot eat dairy and Kim accommodated me so graciously with ideas for substitutions. My friend's entree was very delayed from the kitchen so Kim made sure to make it right for us with complementary yummy desserts of baklava and ice cream, and non-dairy sorbet (for me). I was at Tarla for a Valentine's Day dinner with my husband and it was packed! We made a reservation a week or so prior so getting our table was pretty easy when we got to the restaurant. Our server was very attentive and nice, checking in on us throughout the meal and refilling our waters. We ordered a baba ghanoush dip to share, I ordered the grilled octopus salad, and my hubs got the pomegranate short ribs with the mushroom truffle risotto. SO YUMMY!!! I loved the actual mushrooms in the risotto and the subtle truffle taste. The executive chef even came around giving roses to all the ladies in the restaurant, which was a very sweet and elegant touch. The food was excellent--fresh ingredients, thoughtful flavor combinations, and textures that worked beautifully together. The kitchen clearly understands hospitality. Unfortunately, one of the servers seemed to have missed that meeting. Our server, a middle-aged gentleman, was remarkably consistent: no smile, no warmth, and no visible sign that serving our table brought him any joy whatsoever. We smiled, spoke politely, and tried to be friendly, but our efforts were met with the emotional range of a parking meter. What made it even more noticeable was that he was clearly capable of being warm. While serving the neighboring tables--especially when presenting a flaming dish--he was cheerful, animated, and genuinely engaging. Since we were the only non-white guests in the restaurant, it was hard not to notice the difference. Maybe the fire brought out his personality. Maybe we should have ordered ourselves flambéed. We ordered a salad and a kebab together. He nodded while taking the order, which usually translates to, "Got it." The salad arrived right on time. The kebab, however, seemed to have entered witness protection. It never appeared until we flagged him down and asked about it. Throughout the meal, our table was never checked on proactively. Every time we needed something, we had to raise our hands while he was already helping the table next to us. We weren't exactly being served--we were being discovered at regular intervals. It's genuinely disappointing because the food deserves every compliment it gets. The service, however, made us feel less like valued guests and more like an optional side dish. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously. A restaurant with a kitchen this talented deserves front-of-house service that makes every guest feel equally welcome. read more

We've always seen this restaurant as we're driving into downtown Napa and finally got around to trying it last night for date night. There are 2 seating areas-- 1 side (where we sat) is full of cool tones, super cute and eclectic lamps and is very lively! The other side is warm, welcoming and cozy and the noise level seems to be a little lower. Both are great. We were greeted by our server who was very friendly and attentive. We asked for some recommendations and landed on the Greek Dip Trio and the Calamari Fritto Misto to start. I ordered the Whole Branzino and my husband got the Beef Gyro Wrap. All of the dips were so delicious and the pita was so soft. My favorite was the baba ghanoush. The calamari was good, but could have been less oily. And it was slightly overcooked, but we still enjoyed it. My branzino was perfect. It was tender, flakey and moist. The skin was cooked perfectly and was nice and crispy. The bed of cous cous and Brussels sprouts paired so nicely with the fish. My husband enjoyed his wrap very much. And it was pretty big! We finished with some coffee and the flourless chocolate cake. So decadent, but not too sweet and not too rich where you can't finish it. The manager said hello and our server did a great job making sure we were having a great experience. The restaurant is bigger than it looks and we had a great oval table and everyone could talk to each other pretty easily. We tried items from every part of the menu, starting with a mezze platter- their dips are really good! The saganaki is very different, and delicious. Made a reservation at Tarla and enjoyed it overall. All of the food is made in house which is really impressive! All in all, I thought the flavors were punchy and everything was good, but there were just a few pockets that could have been improved. We started with the trio which featured hummus, babaganoush and tatziki. The accompanying pita was pillowy soft and I liked the whole olives too. The meatballs came next. Good flavor, but just a tad dry in my opinion. The relish on the bottom though made of potatoes, kale, and mushrooms was a star! Next was the saganaki. There was a bit of a snafu with lighting it up and idk if it was embarrassing for the waiter but he just put it on the table despite not flambee'ing it at all so some bites were just soaked with brandy and it was a little rough. The potential was certainly there though! For mains, we shared the French toast, octopus salad and the short rib hash. I personally liked the French toast best. It features bread from my Napa favorite, Model Bakery and featured a really nice mix of fruity and nutty elements. The salad was a little overdressed and the portion of octopus was honestly small for the price paid despite being prepared very well. Lastly the hash was chopped a bit finer than we all expected. The flavor was good, but it was a little hard to scoop up and eat. All in all, I would definitely return to Tarla. read more

Their ingredients are fresh and we are always happy with the service and food. Street parking is easy to find and downtown also has parking garages available. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing with seating available inside or outside. This time was just as rewarding. My friend and I wanted a snack during off hours after a day at the museums. Even though we were only having a couple of appetizers and some teas, service was friendly and efficient. My friend and I shared the Greek Dip Trio & the Calamari Fritto Misto. The pita bread was soft, fluffy and fresh and the dips were delicious. Calamari's batter was light. The sauce danced beautifully with the calamari. 9/14/24 Zach and I decided to try out Tarla for lunch. I made a reservation for 12pm on opentable and requested an outdoor table since we were coming with Coco. We couldn't find parking right by the restaurant, so we got a spot at a nearby park and walked 10 minutes. When we got there, it wasn't busy so we got our pick of which outdoor table to sit at. Our waitress Kim was so friendly and delightful. After we were seated she brought out menus and a water bowl for Coco. Here's what we got: - hummus plate (free when you check in on the yelp app) - lamb burger (his) - short rib hash (mine) The hummus came out first. It tasted so fresh and was really good. Kim also hooked us up with more pita bread and veggies since they give you s lot of hummus. We only waited 10 minutes before the entrees came out. Everything smelled delicious! The beef in the short rib hash was very tender. The potatoes were mostly soft, but had a very slight crunch to it. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The lamb burger was very juicy and fragrant. Zach said it was probably one of the best lamb burgers he has had. During our meal, the executive chef came out to greet us which was very cool. Everything about Tarla is great: the food, service and the overall restaurant is very clean and spacious. I was looking for dinner and stumbled upon this place and ordered several different dishes. Saganaki- Delicious, sweet, and relatively heavy. The cheese itself has a very dense and heavy composition so when you bite into it, it seems as if you're biting into soft meat. I absolutely loved the texture. The sweetness of it worked really well overall when eaten with the bread. The raisins and honey with the dried apricots really cut how heavy the cheese tasted. Solid dish overall. Angus beef musakka- This was similar to a Mediterranean take on a lasagna. The beef was good and the tomato sauce worked perfectly with the meat in between. The sauce was savory and not too tart like most tomato sauces. It legit felt as if I was eating a less heavy lasagna. All in all, not a bad place for dinner! Very nice experience! First I must say I love how this restaurant is decorated so beautifully. The vibrant blue glass lamps above are an absolutely beautiful touch. The vibrant colors and interesting and intricate wall art are such a lovely touch. There is endless amounts of beautiful art to view as you wait. My friends especially loved the art pieces with the names of Greek Gods. The art here is truly so unique and interesting to look at. I also really like how this restaurant is in such a perfect location with lots of parking available in front of it. :) I was so happy I finally convinced my girl friends to check out Mediterranean food. I am happy to report they enjoyed it very much. lol. I ordered the Lamb Tenderloin Kabob that features seasoned beef, marinated eggplant, potatoes, and roasted vegetables. This dish is very delicious and I especially enjoyed the vegetables that they pair it with. The flavor was lovely and the dish is very filling. My friends ordered the Grilled Chicken Kabobs and said it was very yummy! This was their first experience with chimichurri and they enjoyed it. It was also my first time with this type of chimichurri. I usually see green sauce chimichurri, but this restaurant has a brown thin liquid kind so that was very interesting to experience. Something that my friends had mentioned is they wished their dish was occupanied by rice on the side or under the vegetables which I think would be a great addition to the dish honestly. This dish is delicious but can we add rice?? (Just a suggestion lol.) We didn't see our server much but the manager (or owner?) greeted us warmly and with a smile. She also graciously offered us some complimentary hummus and pita when our order was taking a bit long. The manager (or owner) was a very nice lady and you can tell she highly values her customers and their experience here at the restaurant. She really enhanced and made our visit much more pleasant. My only complaint is I was dressed for a summer day (since we just left a winery) and they sat us next to the door in the evening and the draft coming in left me freezing with goosebumps. lol. I kept wishing I would've brought a jacket. lol. I think it would make sense to sit people with warm clothes (jackets and such) next to the door and be more mindful if someone is wearing a dress or something summery to sit them further into the restaurant where they can sit and be at a comfortable temperature. Came in for Napa Valley Restaurant month and wow everything was delicious! Service was very friendly, our server Monica was knowledgeable and attentive. The manager came by to ask how everything was and at the very end of our meal the chef came by to check in which was a first for us. Only downside- my husband and I both ordered the New York Steak medium rare for our main course. One steak came out medium well and the other medium rare, I didn't want to send it back so we ate the overcooked steak and said nothing. We added the truffle mushroom risotto to share and that made up for the overcooked steak. I haven't been back to Tarla since my first bad experience 5 years ago and this experience has definitely changed my opinion. Our experice at Tarla was amazing! We decided on this cute little downtown restaurant on our trip into Napa for a show that night. The restaurant is very artfully decorated and has qr codes to the artists near some canvases. We already love Mediterranean food, but this was a lovely meal. The haloumi cheese appetizer is an experience. They come to the table and flambe it for you, and it's very impressive. The broiled salty cheese with the fruit was a great pairing, and it's paired with a crusty bread. The dip platter was good, my husband found the garnishes was what really made these dips stand out. My favorite of them was the babaganoush. My husband loved the taziki. The hummus was OK, and in my opinion the black olives were much better than the green ones, there were soo many green ones! I wish they had the option to swap the pita for celery and carrots or something. (I'm diabetic, so carb restricted.) The octopus salad was yummy. The octopus had that great balance of char and softness, and the salad was well balanced and not over dressed. The lunch plates were good. We both enjoyed the potato soup. The potato/mushroom/hummus bed on the meatball plate was amazing, and my husband completely ignored the salad on his chicken kebab plate for it. The meatballs were more spiced than regular kuftas, but I liked it. The server was super sweet and very helpful with choosing a sweet wine for us.
