Uliveto is a neighborhood gem. I love the bread and olives in oil that they bring before the meal is served. Inside is a bit cramped, but I enjoy sitting outside when the temperature allows. They have a large heating lamp and even provide blankets to keep diners warm. The food is pretty solid, though not the best I have ever had. Still, an excellent option and love that it's within walking distance if you live in the Fan. read more

We stumbled upon this restaurant one evening walking around in the fan and decided to eat there on a whim. They were super accommodating with us for not having a reservation and were able to set up a table outside for us on their patio. This was my first time at Uliveto. We made last minute reservations for 8pm on a Friday. We were glad they could accommodate our group of 7. When we arrived, the place was packed. The tables are super close together and the space is pretty small and narrow. We started with a few appetizers. We had the bruschetta, the meatballs, and the broccoli rabe. All were good, especially the meatballs. For my meal, I ordered the spaghetti with clams. The dish was beautiful and very tasty! I was impressed with the amount of clams they gave me. The sauce was buttery and very garlicky which I loved. We all did agree that the appetizers were better than the entrees. We would 100% come back and order a ton of appetizers and drink wine. The servers were very friendly, not the fastest but again the place was packed so we understood. We loved that we could bring in our own wine to drink and just pay the corking fee. read more

Much of their food is very bland, and with such a massive menu, it seems they struggle with perfecting a few dishes. If their pasta is homemade, it's hard to tell since I've always found it to be over cooked and mushy. The food at Uliveto was very delicious. The salmon I had was cooked perfectly. I am no wine expert, but they seemed to have a good selection at varying price ranges. For beer they have no drafts, but about 5 bottled Italian imports and some local IPAs. Our server was very attentive and kind. The only downside I have is that the tables are way to close to each other. This may not bother everyone, but something to be aware of. The outdoor seating and high tables seemed to have more space. I met a couple of friends at Uliveto after work and was excited to try it because it always seems busy. We ordered wine while we decided what to order. Wine was nice, but I kind of lost my appetite because there were so many flies buzzing around our table. I ended up ordering a salad which was fine, but once we received our food, the flies got worse. All three of us were trying to shoo them off our food without success. I finally just let the flies have my salad and just finished my wine. Maybe it will be better once the weather cools down, but I likely won't go back anytime soon. Service was impeccable because he was very much able to easily describe each evening special and answer specific questions regarding features on the menu....bread and oil to begin were so tasty and freshly made, and each of our orders were just that-prepared to perfection! It's a very small intimate space so come prepared to share dining spaces with others, and it is a tad loud based on that, however, we found it to be quite typical in keeping with the downtown Richmond vibe:). Service was good, food wasn't. I went the first year it was open and everything was great. This year, not so much. The wine was not very good for the price, the meatball appetizer was horrible. It came in the shape of sausage links (turds) and was dry and desiccated. The inside dining is packed you're seated right next to each other and it's very loud. I previously dined at Uliveto and had a good experience, so I thought it would be a great spot for my one-year anniversary. Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience. The restaurant was very busy which was understandable for a Saturday night, so when the server finally greeted us I made sure to order both our drinks and the appetizer (the keftedes). Then, later we ordered salads as well as our entrees. My partner's salad ended up coming out about 10 minutes before mine, so when the server came back over, I inquired about my salad as well as the keftedes and was told they were on the way. About 20 minutes later, the server said they thought that the keftedes were for the entree and that our entrees were ready and asked if they should they hold them. I said to send everything out at once because I didn't want an entree that had been sitting for awhile. However, when the entrees and keftedes came out at the same time, my entree (the Amatriciana) was cold. And the keftedes were oddly in sausage (not meatball) form and were overcooked and dry. I explained my disappointment to the server and he took away my entree and took it off the check. Even though we ate only a small portion of the keftedes, it remained on the check. I ended up sharing my partner's entree (the bolognese) which was warm and very tasty, but overall was very disappointed in the food/service. read more

Wonderful! We sat outside and enjoyed a wonderful meal and service. It wasn't too loud and servers were knowledgeable and happy. The leek and pancetta bruschetta, veal scallopini, and pistachio pesto pasta were standouts! The menu had fantastic offerings for the health conscious, discerning palettes, and those seeking the best of comfort food. Wine list was lacking. That's the only thing there is to complain about. Uliveto will quickly become known as one of Richmond's finest restaurants. During our first visit, we enjoyed sautéed calamari as a shared appetizer. The presentation was simple but the taste was authentic and beautifully prepared. The three of us have been to Italy and Greece and know what good cooking tastes like. We knew we were in for a treat after our first bite. The Lemone Spaghetti was very bright and light while the bolognese with homemade flat pasta was as good as I have ever tasted. Chicken Milanese was pounded thin and perfectly plated with arugula and ripe beefsteak tomatoes. Finally, we enjoyed tiramisu made on premises and it was outstanding with a clean coffee flavor, creamy layers of goodness with soaked sponge cake. Big enough for all three of us to enjoy. At one point during our meal I mentioned how our waiter never asked how the food was and that's because we all had our heads down devouring this wonderful cuisine. The service was very good but the real stars of this restaurant are the chefs in back. Uliveto has officially been added to our rotation. Bravo!! read more

Vibe is really good, food good but not special, service was terrible: the low point was being upsold on a cocktail without being informed that we were being upsold - cost me $25+automatic tip for a cocktail that was listed at $13. Otherwise service was somewhat inattentive even though we were being tag-teamed by 3 servers. Absolutely didn't care for the checkout process, auto-suggested tip on tax.
