Definitely ask for the house salsas- habanero and green options, as these really make the tacos. The "Americanized" chips and salsa were good but average. Worth the trip for good tacos and salsa. Do not expect a peaceful or fancy environment. Good street tacos for being this far north. Tried a bunch of other stuff that didn't do much for me, but will definitely be back for tacos. Super tacos means with sour cream, cheese, and pico and it makes them impossible to close and challenging to eat. If you gotta have those things on your taco, you won't be disappointed, but the regular tacos are probably fine. The tortillas are good and the meat is tasty, this is definitely the thing to order here. Pupusas was interesting but probably wouldn't order it again, kind of like a tortilla pancake with meat stuffing. Chicken empanada was ok, needs some kind of dipping sauce. Breading was soft but and seemed baked instead of fried, which gave it a unique texture. The tamales are huge! Didn't get to try one, but if you're into that they look great. Chips were a little stale, red salsa was ok, they do have a habanero sauce that's great on the tacos. Overall, it's cheap and good, nice and casual, I'll be back. read more

This is a great place to get authentic Mexican - cheap and fast. I especially enjoyed the steak taco salad, and my partner enjoyed his chicken burrito. With two cans of juice our total came to $16.xx. The gentleman working was very helpful, especially since we couldn't read the Spanish menu. We only ate in the restaurant area so I can't rate the market itself. The food was very good, but was lacking flavor in some ways and the rice was very wet and plain. It seems that no matter what you order it will be loaded with this rice. But the food was great compared to the standard sit down Mexican restaurant. We will be back! read more

I walked into this place on National Taco Day because Taco Bell seemed to make my stomach instinctually cower. The building color and the area it's in are big downfalls, but don't let yourself be fooled. Patience is key here. Once you go in, it looks like a small, local market. The business looks like a rough and unprofessional renovation. Exposed wires, discolored floors and ceiling tiles... Remember what I said about being patient? The best part, and the reason I will be coming back for awhile was the seemingly traditional cooking that you can't find very often in Mexican places in the Midwest. The place, while rough, had character and was (most importantly) clean! I had three traditional tacos, rice, and beans. The tacos were amazing! The chicken was marinaded in an amazing sauce, the pork was well cooked and fresh, and the carnitas was crispy and well seasoned. Rice and beans weren't special, but they didn't need to be. The chips and salsa were tasty. What won me over were the sauces. The green, mild sauce was kind of tasteless on its own, but for some reason brought out the flavors of whatever it touched. The red, spicy sauce was pretty spicy. It had a great hint of poblano and habanero that really enhances the flavor of the beans. After driving by this small market/restaurant I couldn't help but to be curious. I love Mexican food and I read that their food was authentic and delicious. With six booths placed in the area closest to the door, the restaurant portion of this business was indeed very small. The service was fast and the food came out fresh. There wasn't much of a wait. They served chips and homemade salsa (kind of spicy). Drinks can be purchased from the market section and paid for with your meal. I ordered a taco salad with chicken and it was a large portion. Our first time here and it was fantastic. The food was authentic and reminded us of the small, family owned Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles. Our new favorite in Terre Haute. The carnitas, shredded beef and shredded chicken tacos were delicious. The salsa was fresh and amazing--reminded me of my Nana's salsa. The food isn't bad at all, but once you get into the bathrooms or the kitchens then it's a entire mess of hell, I mean I used to work there and get something to eat and drink there and yet whenever I go into the kitchen to cook or do the dishes, the whole kitchen floor is covered in mouse poop and yet I have complained to the Supervisor and the Manager and yet they don't wanna come to their senses and do anything about it, so I quit working there a month later when I was working so hopefully that they're going to improve sooner than later than expected. read more

Growing up in El Paso, college and working in San Antonio. I love Mexican food. Been by Ulloa's many times finally stopped in. I had the birria tacos, wife had the enchilada plate. Tacos were good, enchiladas good, the beans a bit watery but flavored very good and the rice was tasty. Only 4 tables and a limited choice of groceries. If you want to support a local taqueria - head this way. Bill for both and a couple of cans of soda. $15. Not bad for good tasting Mexican food. Great, authentic food in a small space ran by a family. This is a great local business to support! Their menu is small and most is in Spanish, but they will gladly help you order. I have only been here once but cannot wait to return! The Taco Salad con Pollo (with chicken) was delicious and even had rice and avocado in the taco bowl. My friend's enchilada was a good size and looked delicious! The fish taco was tasty and they do it right with fresh lime. Good people. Great food. Awesome prices! My husband and I ate here and are looking forward to coming back. Several friends do carry out, but we ate there. My husband had deep fried tacos, he had 5!! Each hand made served with lettuce and sour cream. I had the chicken casadillia (sp) with rice and beans. They offer home made salsa that was amazing. You grab your own soda out of the fridge.
