While traveling for work, I decided to stop at the spot. I ordered carry out. The gentleman who took my order was super helpful and friendly. My food was really good and was a large portion. I opted for the nachos. The cheese was melted on the tortilla chips, and everything tasted fresh. I can't really speak on the ambience because I just walked in the front door and stayed at the cashier area. I did notice the rug at the front counter was clean. My only complaint was I waited almost 25 minutes to get my food and another 10 minutes to pay for my food. Long wait if you're in a hurry. read more

Went to Real Hacienda on 7- 25-26 for a birthday dinner . Told the uninterested waiter / server we had a birthday at our table. Hardly Noone was there eating. Maybe 2- 3 other tables were occupied . Never checked on us to see if we needed anything . My guest got up and found napkins on a stand . My to go order was missing the tortillas necessary to fix the fajitas. Called the waiter over from where he kept disappearing from ( the bar ) to get them . No apologies just a blank stare . Never came and asked if we needed drink refills . When we left to pay I look over at our waiter still sitting on a bar stool in the bar he's openly and " aggressively " picking his nose for what seemed like an eternity in full view of the bartender, patrons and ?? My wife and I like to share their "Nachos Reales" with a mix of chicken and steak. It's WAY more food than one person could/should eat. They are very generous portions. This particular menu item is cheesy, slightly spicy, and packed with protein. It's a serious order of nachos. We usually go during non-peak times so service is super fast. I was hoping to visit the Real Hacienda on Wabash, but this one is closest to where my son lives in Terre Haute, so this won out. Cool decor, not a bad atmosphere even though it's in a strip mall out by the Walmarts, aina. My dish of Enchiladas wasn't served with either the red or green sauce (you have to ask for the sauce???) so I did indeed asked for the green sauce. Enchiladas were just not up to par. No refils offered on sodas by our server. The college kids liked their dishes and my son's Coloradita dish was actually really tasty, tho'. Stopped while passing through and was not disappointed. Not sure why so few stars... our meals were delicious. I had an order of grilled fajita chicken with cheese sauce. Amazing and way more than I could eat and less than $10. My wife had 3 tacos and a Marg. All in all very cost effective and well prepared dinner. Our server, Teodulfo, did a great job! Traveling from Cincinnati to St. Louis and wanted lunch. Chips and salsa good, not too spicy. Tamale was ok, more corn filler than meat.The guacamole was tasty. Husband bought steak fajita. Most of the steak was over cooked, burnt. But it was generous with vegetables. Side of salad, rice and beans with guacamole generous and tasty. Service prompt and polite. The ambiance is family oriented. Lunch specials prices were good. Negatives: seating at booth. The seats were badly ripped up. The bathrooms dirty and bedraggled. Overall I would not return. This is the best Mexican cuisine in the area of Terre Haute. It blows away those past restaurants that served so called Mexican food. The salsa has a great taste and the chips are perfectly crunchy and great. I truly recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants authentic Mexican cuisine. OMG so disappointed. Place was recommended so tried. Ordered 2 chimichangas and side of bean and rice for $30+ . Food ready when I arrived but sitting on a bench at entrance with dirty floor rug:runners right next to it-- very gross. Shocked but said ok. It's in a bag so probably not contaminated. The sour cream and beans tasted spoiled. I'm glad I prayed before I ate and prayed again that we didn't get sick. I called to warn the restaurant that the cream and beans were spoiled. The chimichanga was so bad...loaded with dry pulled chicken and i came across 2 bones in the mix. When i complained , the ones answering the phone could not understand me so I asked for a manager but was told the manager would be back Monday. I don't think they did anything about the sour food. Today I took the family to try the Real Hacienda. We enjoyed our visit. It was clean, the service was good and friendly, the prices were a little high but so was the quality. The food was very good. I think we will be regulars here. I can't wait to try more of there dishes. read more

My wife and visited here on a Friday night about 6pm. We were seated quickly and served chips and salsa immediately (which we loved). The staff we very prompt and seemed nice but they could have been more personable. The atmosphere was lively but not too loud and crazy. Many families and couples continued to come in as we ate our meal. Our order was accurate and came out in a timely manner. I was very please with my chimichanga and my wife loved her enchilada as well. This is a great Mexican joint on the east side of town. Visited on 6/15/20 and I won't go back. The table was sticky, the server was rushing us, even though we were the only two people there. The food was terrible, I ordered beef tacos and they had grease dripping from them. I have had better tacos at taco bell. We weren't even close to finished when the bill was put on the table. The Real Hacienda may be "The Haute's" best Mexican food, but it falls short for this former Texan, current California resident [perhaps my expectations were just too high]. I visited the Real Hacienda for lunch and was seated immediately with chips and salsa ready for me to eat... everything went downhill from there. The chips reminded me over warmed tostitos and the salsa wasn't much better than a jar of mild Pace Picante sauce. I picked through a few chips but ultimately passed on them. I would not go hungry though as my lunch plate consisting of a taco and enchilada was ready almost as fast as it took me to review the menu. The crispy taco was fine, the shell was crispy and the meat was lightly seasoned and not just browned ground beef. The enchilada with what was suppose to be chili con carne was the worst tasting enchilada maybe ever. the chili con carne was noting more than some nasty red sauce, but again shame on me. I have to give my server credit, he was prompt, curt but not rude and fast. There is more than ample parking as the Real Hacienda rents its suite in a large shopping center parking lot. They have the interior right with the high back wooden benches and bright colors, but the food falls short [for me... maybe it's just me]. read more

I'm so sorry, I wanted to write a good review but things were off tonight. First off I will highlight the good points. The restaurant is very spacious and open With lots of seating. It was jam packed on a Friday night. I had called the day before to let them know that I would have a team of eight there for dinner. They do not take reservations but they knew ahead of time that I was coming. The staff were in such a rush they didn't really stop to greet you or find out if everything was OK with our orders.I ordered a ribeye steak and it came out like shoe leather but even though I only took a few bites of it they removed my plate at the end of the meal I didn't even ask me about the quality of it or why I didn't eat it. One of our team members got a chimichanga which was literally burnt. The rest of the food was good. The guacamole was to die for. When things settle down a little and people started to leave our waiter became more interactive so I understand what a rush on Friday night can do to the kitchen and dining staff. I definitely would try this restaurant again because I could see great potential. One thing I would recommend is that when the waiter or waitress brings food to the table they can come back and ask how everything was cooked if it was satisfactory and it taste good. read more

It isn't the best Mexican food, but it's good for Indiana. All of their food taste the same as all the other Mexican restaurants in town, nothing authentic. I frequent Real Hacienda quite often and have had few, minor problems. This most recent time was the worst. They close at 9 and we showed up at 8:30 (I thought they closed at 10). We were seated right away and then asked if we were ready to order 5 times within 3 minutes because they closed in 30 minutes. They didn't even tell us they closed at 9 until the last time they came over to ask us if we were ready to order and by that time I was already mad and annoyed anyways. Well, it wasn't "awful". We went on a Saturday evening, the AC must have been out because it was hot inside. We were not greeted, but seated rather quickly. Our waiter was prompt, not friendly. We order an app and our meals, never received the app but were still charged for it because our server didn't check in since he was obviously very busy with a lot of other tables. I ordered tacos-just beef soft tacos-and they were not good (i.e. gross). My husband had a quesadilla he enjoyed. The salsa was 'meh'. They did take the appetizer off our check with no hassle. Usually Mexican joints like this are a solid bet. Not a lot of service expected since the staff speaks mainly Spanish, but usually the food is worth a repeat visit. NOT HERE. I will be living near this place for the next five years and I doubt I will ever return unless I am with someone that REALLY wants to go. Just skip it. It was pretty bad. I didn't get sick, my husband liked his meal, and the staff was fast, so I gave it two stars. I won't be back. read more

Last Sunday, I stopped by this Real Hacienda location for a quick bit to eat with two friends. Service was quick; chips and drinks came out in a flash. The problem arose when our food was delivered. Two of the three orders were incorrect. This is not a big deal, mistakes happen. I alerted our waiter that the orders were wrong. He responded by saying "No, I delivered what I have written down. See?" Indeed, the wrong order was written on his chit. I informed him that it must be a mistake because we had not received the food that we requested. He responded by insisting that I was wrong, and that I had in fact ordered what he had written down. He claimed that there was nothing he could do to fix the error--keep in mind that we had not touched the food. I have worked in food service. I have been in our waiter's shoes, and this is completely unacceptable. When I asked to see a manager, our waiter informed me that he IS the manager. At this point I was too frustrated to argue. We ate our food whether it was what we wanted or not. Having worked in food service, I am usually a 20% tip kind of guy. This is the first time I have EVER been so irritated that I did not leave a tip. Unless big changes are made, I do not see myself ever returning to Real Hacienda. read more

Entered the building and got decent atmosphere with a Mexican vibe. We got seated and our server didn't ask us if we wanted drinks or anything to start with as soon as we were sitting. He gave us our menus and walked off. About 15 - 20 minutes later we finally got drink orders. After our drinks came out our server ask if we wanted to order we said "not yet we are waiting on someone." about 5 minutes later when the person we was waiting on wasn't here yet, our server asked us again and again and again and again. It got annoying and felt like they were rushing us out before we even got our food. Our last guest finally arrived and it took them 15 minutes to even come back over. Skipping forward, once we got our food and got to eating our original server didn't show his face at all during our stay. we had like 3 - 4 different people that we had to ask for things. definitely not a place i would want to go back to and to lastly add on food was eh.
