Store: I was very excited to see that there would be an Ulta within minutes from my home. Upon arrival the layout is very clean looking with white lights that are great for trying on makeup. There is a hair salon in the back end of the store as well. This is your all around go to store you can find anything from drugstore cosmetics to higher end ones as well as hair products and nails products. My experience: I browsed around and tried on some stuff was excited to see brands that other high end make up stores do not carry such as NYX that is hard to find besides online. They were low on this specific brand of makeup which was disappointing but to be expected since it is a cheaper alternative with great products. I was told that next shipment is on Thursday so to try next week or to call ahead and they will place the product on hold for me. Customer Service: Unfortunately not the best my friend asked one of the girls at the brow bar if she could do her wax? She simple said "I'm leaving to lunch and turned away" we stood there in awe. I find that the ladies at the brow bar are very un welcoming and rude I don't know exactly if they are independent from Ulta but I will not be coming in here to get my eyebrows wax we went to the salon up the strip instead. To sum it up I probably will come back as a last minute option or specifically for NYX hopefully the customer service improves. read more

As far as the store goes, it's a decent location. Some locations can be messy and have a problem with keeping stock. I haven't found that to be an issue here. I've also gotten my hair colored in the salon by Danielle, and I'm very happy with how it turned out! read more

I wish there was a negative star rating for the salon at ULTA. I went in with high hopes and to try a new haircut for the holiday season. However, what I got was a botch up version of a a-line long Bob. I told the stylest Alexandria who is also the manager that I have a hard time growing out my hair and its very thin. I have borderline Alopecia and thinning of my hair is always an issue. I MADE SURE to explain and show all my bald spots and how I specifically part my hair to hide my scalp. I was hoping that she would understand and take my hair texture into consideration before cutting my hair. As I took a seat I explained that I wanted an a-line long Bob but not such dramatic angeled. I also, took the time to explain that it would be nice to trim as much of the blond off the ends of my hair is possible but that I would still like to be able to tie my hair in a pony tail. Alexandria must have misunderstood what I wanted or was so distracted with interacting with her employees in picking their secret santa that she grabbed my hair in a bunch and chopped straight across my hair to get rid of all the blonde. At that point I was horrified. But, I gave it thought that she knows what she was doing. We did a deep condition treatment. When i sat back in the chair I saw how short my hair was and wondered how this A-line long Bob would turn out. She proceeded to cut my hair and when she said she was done I took a look and there was no A-line angle to my hair. It looked like a straight bob (dora the explorer) with a slight angel, not the characteristics of a classic a-line. So, in order to get the a-line cut I wanted so I didnt look like Dora I asked her to go shorter to give that classic a-line cut. At this point its no longer a long Bob. During the entire process the employees and Alexandria were all joking in the back and having a great time..I felt really awkward and felt that I was not given the proper attention when getting my hair cut. At the end instead for blow drying my hair out she decided to curl it..(was this to hide her imperfections?) My haircut lasted 2 hours. We started at 3:30 and ended at 5:30pm. Honestly I give businesses a chance however there is a young lady there who is clueless about her job she helped true match my skin tone, when I went to get my make up done and provided the foundation this location helped me choose it was totally off,when I went back the same young lady took my return she didn't apologize or recognized any accountability she just giggled, I did pick up a few things during my exchange and tried to use my points she just seemed annoyed, I didn't say much at all nor did i complain I just couldn't wait to get out of there to make sure I don't bring my business or money here again, sure it doesn't matter to huge corporate but just to make sure I don't experience poor service, might just shop online from now on not with Ulta though. read more

The store itself is great. Plenty of parking, great products but the service is terrible. The staff is very slow. Lines always very long, with a couple of cashiers for a full house of customers. I started doing the online order and pick-up...and even that is slow. The email states it will be ready in 2 hours or less. My order is never ready in that time period. I always end up calling, and then I'm told "we will work on it now and it will be ready in 30 minutes". Terrible service. Don't visit this place if you are out of patience or in a hurry! read more

Good selection of products in a wide price range. They don't do samples (except clinique) which is difficult when trying new skincare with sensitive skin. Their return policy is good, but it feels like a waste of time/effort/money/products to buy something for 60$ just to decide you don't like it. On the other hand, they have just horrible customer service every single time I come to this store. I am never greeted at the door, but can overhear them greeting other customers while I am in the store/leaving. Considering I am a woman in my early 30s who is very excited about makeup and eager to buy new things ( aka I am smiley and happy to spend money on staff suggestions), I wonder what it is about me that has not once warranted a "hello" from the staff. I am never asked if I need help finding anything. All of the employees are hanging out with each other gossiping instead of trying to actively engage the customers. When I finally ask for help finding things, I am given the run-around and it is obvious they feel inconvenienced by questions. This has been my experience at multiple Ulta locations. It makes it pretty frustrating to shop here and I usually end up leaving without anything and decide to purchase it online from the individual brand instead of supporting a company with such lacking interest in customer service. read more

This review is specifically for their hair stylist Gigi at the Pinole location. I took my goddaughter to have her hair done there because she had so many tangles, it was hard to not only style, but to brush her hair. She did not like anyone touching her hair because of how sensitive her head is, but Gigi made her feel comfortable, and was able to get all the tangles out and style it very nicely for her without it hurting her. In the process, Gigi also taught my goddaughter some tips and tricks to keep her hair styled that way, along with what products would work best for her hair type. My goddaughter felt very special walking out of that store, and it gave her the motivation she needed to keep it up! read more

In general, I like Ulta. I was happy to have a local beauty supply store that stocks both high end and drugstore level makeup and hair products. The staff has always been friendly. They do seem to be out of stock of a lot of things and the testers get torn up but that's not really in their control. Now for the disappointing part. I've gone to the salon there a couple times before, a couple years back and then once again last fall because the stylist from Glama-Rama that worked the best magic with my hair moved. The cuts were pretty decent - I think I had Laurie both times. The second time with Laurie, it was for a cut and dye (some streaks of purpleish colors). For some reason the scheduling got messed up and she didn't have the time to do as much as I wanted, not her fault. I was fine with that experience, not as much dyeing as I wanted and the colors all melted together instead of the fade from one to another like I wanted, but at least the length was alright. This last Friday though, I didn't get what I wanted really at all when I went in for a cut :/ Though my emailed confirmation for the appointment said my cut was with Sarah, my stylist was someone named Saudie (sp?) The photo of me with the black top was a cut from a different salon that I was absolutely happy with, I showed the stylist that photo and told her I wanted that length but maybe even a little longer, "definitely a little below shoulder length" I specifically said. My hair is naturally curly and that's how it was when I walked in, I figured she'd know to cut less off first and check in since curly hair shrinks, and that's also what she said she would do, "I'll make it a little longer first and then you can let me know if you want more taken off". Sounded fine. Except it wasn't. Her first cut off the back was already shorter than I expected. She turned the chair to the mirror and asked if I wanted it any shorter, I was kind of in denial thinking maybe I just couldn't tell the actual length because I was turning my head sideways to look at it. I said "definitely no shorter than that!". It was too late to change the length now, the cut was basically halfway there so I tried to tell myself maybe when it's done it will look more like that picture.... But as it got closer to done I could see this was now a bob cut. At that point I did tell her it was shorter than I had expected. She seemed nervous after that and her hands were a little shaky, so I kinda felt bad and told her I've had this length before and I've liked it, I didn't want to stress her out while she was still working on my hair. She got one of the other stylists to do some finishing touches because the right side still had longer pieces than the left. I chose the blow out option to straighten it, because if she has dried it curly and fluffed it like too many tend to do I might have cried. At least straightened it would be stretched to its longest. The photo in the light shirt, black jacket is from right after. It doesn't even reach my shoulders. The last one (in dark navy top with cut out shoulders) was the next day, with a little wave and curl put back in with an iron I liked it a little more, and I have gotten compliments on it which helped me feel less sad about it, but this was still not what I asked for. My head is tilted back there so it's even a smidge shorter in real life. Part of the reason I got it cut was to cut down on the time it takes me to deal with it, it was taking too long to dry and there's a lot of stressful stuff in my life at the moment, I didn't want to spend so much time messing with my hair. I wanted to still be able to put my hair up. I can barely form a ponytail now, there's a bunch of hair that I have to gather and pin up now when I take a shower because it's so short, so that's a big PITA. I have to style it more now to get it to look nice, so much for the time I thought I'd save, and it now doesn't work with a costume I wear often. Some of the back layers seem even shorter than the front even though I told her I wanted very little layering in back, mostly face framing layers in front. I don't wish ill on this person, she seemed nice, maybe she's new? Maybe Ulta doesn't have a good system for figuring out measurements and how much to cut, but I gave my request in inches as well as photos as well as the 'below the shoulders' description so I thought that should be enough. I'm afraid to go back, I'm hearing most of the stylists are in training? O.o If I had known I would not have booked it, especially as a curly haired person :( Lesson learned. read more

Had a good experience coming into the store. Has a decent selection of skin cleansers. If I had one thing I would suggest, it would be to work with your sales associates to improve their customer service skills. I had a little challenge in finding an associate to work with, and it was difficult to get assistance in product selection. Overall however, I really enjoyed my experience here. After looking for a new hairstylist locally, I decided to give the Ulta Hair Salon a chance. Within Yelp I came cross the name Maritza multiple times so I went ahead and booked a haircut with her...and thank goodness I did! She's so sweet and knowledgeable; best of all SHE LISTENS! I ask for a refresh and for very little to be trimmed, and she delivered. Highly recommend her, I felt super comfortable and she made my experience a good one. I got asked 5x if I needed help and also over hearing the employees to check people out like we our thieves. I've been looking for a hair salon/stylist for a while now and I decided to set an appointment with the salon a few days ago since I need a haircut, which in reality, I was overdue for a haircut--had to chop those dead ends away. I scheduled an appointment with Laurie since I read so many good reviews about her on here; I've decided to give it a shot. I'm happy that I did. Laurie really listened to the style cut and the bayalage that I wanted. I really love the bayalage that she did, along with the haircut! I feel like a new person with healthy hair again. This is a follow up to my 6/24/15 post. I did not want to revise my post from the 24th since the rating reflects exactly how I felt that day. The area manager, Nelly, followed up with me regarding the situation. I appreciated her professionalism and honesty. This is the type of service ULTA should always maintain. While I do not feel ULTA is at fault, responsibility falls on the third party company they use for loss prevention - Admiral Security Services based out of Concord, CA. I was told the African American LP agent was removed and no longer worked at that ULTA location and hopefully no other ULTA location. I was informed the LP agent not only accused me of falsely stealing, he falsified the incident report in addition to placing false evidence with the report - an eye shadow palette. (Note: I was nowhere near the eye shadows while in the store.) He claimed I turned over an eye shadow palette in the parking lot that I had stolen. Okay buddy. This same agent also falsely accused two other women of stealing within a week of my incident. One reported her incident on yelp on 6/28/15. Since then I have filed a complaint with Admiral Security's Human Resource department who is now investigating the African American LP agent. Based on my conversation with the HR department, I am fully confident this gentleman will be terminated for his inappropriate actions. *I do feel the team at the UTLA Pinole location needs to be retrained or removed for lack of professionalism. They do tend to be chatty and unfriendly towards the customer base. Not all however there are some weak links in that store. I dealt with asst manager (Najia?) and another team member (shorter curly hair, african american, heavier set.) They definitely need a better customer service friendly personality - regardless of the situation. And when a customer walks out the door and sees them smiling and laughing, while looking out the window at you, does not send a good message. *Note to Nelly** read more

I get my hair styled and cut by Laurie she is the best and my daughter goes to her or Brenda. Both are great and Very friendly and Laurie is exceptionally patient with me and my needs for my dry, over processed hair from past hairstylists that are NOT from Ultra. Laurie always does a great job clipping in my extensions or cutting them and style etc lol Everyone at the store has always been friendly and very helpful with choosing cosmetics. read more

Brow bar - way too expensive. It's done outside where you sit on a stool in the middle of store. The person doing my eye brows said she'd match my brows - which requires them making my brows super thin and I like mine to be thick. She matched them but I don't need them to be matched (as I explained to her). Then she tried to sell me a toner and use a poor example. Never going there again for this. Salon - be careful of being manipulated like I was. These girls are in training and each one has one special talent. If I could go to one for a hair cut then the other for coloring it could work. Also WAY OVER priced. For self dye kits hit up Sally's. I shop for most of my hair products here to avoid the madness at Walmart/target. read more

I started regularly shopping at Ulta for the first time when this new Pinole location opened up. I am writing this review for the service. The staff at this location are always attentive and friendly without being overbearing or stalking you. In particular, I would like to acknowledge Najla. I have seen her several times during various shopping trips, and she is always helpful and pleasant to customers and the staff around her. One day, a couple weeks ago, I had used the restroom there. I had taken off a ring while in there and left lying on the counter. I only realized it SEVERAL hours later that evening. I called the store, convinced it was too late and it was gone forever - explained what I did. She went looking for the ring, and five minutes later....she had found it. She held it for me and my ring and I were reunited. Now I don't know if anyone else was involved, if someone else initially found it and turned it in to some sort of Ulta lost and found... but since Najla is the one I dealt with and she was so sweet and understanding (and didn't make me feel like the idiot I was for leaving something that meant so much to me in a public restroom)... I wanted to acknowledge her. I also recently had EXCELLENT help and advice from Chelsie (spelling?) who said that she is new and this is her 2nd week there. Excellent service Ulta! A man who appeared to be a manager, rudely sent a young girl to help me. She said she was not a beautician but worked there. She was polite and tried to help but knew less than I did about hair color. I have no problem with the rest of the store and will continue to shop there. read more

Great store, great people. Although, make sure you don't bring any bags or purses in with you because you'll be accused of stealing. I've gone in here to buy shampoo a few times, but got accused of stealing every single time because of my baggy jacket or my purse is open or there's always something. I've learned to just come in wearing tight clothing and no bags or purses. I understand why they have to do what they do, but if you don't want to be accused of anything, don't bring in a bag, or purse, and don't wear anything baggy. read more

I was kinda nervous about her experience/lack of experience since I couldnt find here being mentioned anywhere in the yelp reviews. I shop at Ulta in Pinole fairly often, and they're always very knowledgeable and helpful. Today I had to make a return (which I REALLY didn't want to have to do), but it was an emergency cash flow type of situation. I wasn't trying to be a Karen, but I had to at least try to beg the manager for my refund in cash. Do you ever just seem to have one of those years where nothing seems to go your way? And when the replacement key fob for your car is an unexpected $300, and you're stranded, sobbing in the freezing rain, and your ex has to come pick you up, and when you try to book a hotel room just to get space to breathe and take a hot shower, but the hotel won't take your brand of card for a stupid $50 deposit, so you have to cancel your paid reservation, but the refund won't hit your account for 5-7 business days, and you're living temporarily in your boss's RV, and you need fuel for the generator, and every single customer service person on the planet seems to proudly flash a smug smile with each roll of bureaucratic red tape they happily bar their "Not you. Not yours. Not today" doors with in your dripping and frozen face. And it's so fucking cold, and everybody is just an asshole and loving it... That's when just that one customer service rep or store manager decides to do you a small favor and just treat you like a human being (even if you are being a scoche overly dramatic), and they are patient and accommodating (even though they might be miserable too...) And that simple gesture completely changes and improves your day, and if just ONE THING went ok, and ONE store manager did you ONE SMALL FAVOR... It can make all the difference in the world. And even though I had to return some products I really wanted, I was reminded that things just might be ok. Humans can be kind. And it can change your entire outlook. So I thought I'd express some gratitude for that. That manager saved me this weekend from crying pathetically in a freezing RV. It is very much appreciated, and I will make sure to pay it forward. I hope these folks are compensated well and acknowledged for their excellent treatment of their customers. Thank you! read more

Did my hair with Danielle and I've got to say she's extremely rough. not only that, she was rude too. I asked her if she could do this certain hair color and she said she could do similar, during the appointment she would constantly stress me out by claiming "this color is so hard" or "I don't know if I could do this". Was very upset, paid a ton of money for nothing! - wrote this review a while ago and recently i booked an appointment for 3 people last week (we had no idea where to go to, this was our last option. anyways one of the hairstylist cancelled last minute and we were told very last minute. this one lady up front was rude as hell towards us for absolutely no reason. the pushed back our appointment an hour and a half later (had a wedding to attend so we couldnt all do our hair after that, only 2/3 of us) we paid 100 for absolutely nothing, we asked for a formal hairstyle which was suppose to be 77 and all of a sudden a basic braid was an extra 12 dollars or something ? god knows what the rest was for. was absolutely disappointed will never come again and i definitely recommend going somewhere else especially with hairstyling if you have a big event going on. read more

Wanted to share some positive feedback on my experience yesterday. I came in around 11:15, store wasn't very busy. Very clean and spacious. I walked straight back to the Dermalogica section in search of some new products by this brand in particular. I browsed for about 10 minutes but wasn't sure what to get... No one approached me to ask if I needed help. I had to go search for someone to assist me. I'm happy that I saw 'Gurbreet' nearby and asked if she was available. She was sweet and patient, listening to my concerns before making recommendations. She does facials and I'm going to have one by her based on our interaction and her product knowledge. I came home and used the new Dermalogica line just as she instructed and my skin is immediately smoother and calmer!!!!! I am so relieved. Thank YOU Gurbreet!! I got a couple lip glosses by Color Pop and was looking for retractable lip liner. The team work on this was impressive. By this time the store was getting busy but the manager and at least 3 employees were all communicating and trying to help me find what I was looking for. They were all friendly and seemed to be working well as a team. Keep it up Ulta. Great customer service means A LOT, especially with everything that's going on in the world. I've been going to this Ulta since it opened. It's currently well-staffed and so it's much easier to get good help. The staff are excellent! The latest excellent service was over my need to find Ulta-brand lip stuff with spf 30 (related advice: WEAR SUNSCREEN ON YOUR LIPS). It appeared to be out of stock and I was miffed. One person offered to order it for me and as we started to do that another person who had overheard came over with a bunch of the lip-protection. Hooray!!!!!! She had gone into the back to double-check -- that's excellent service! The store is always clean. The brow bar people are very good at their job. And the prices are low enough that my nieces are thrilled to get gift cards from me. read more

Love Ulta products and getting points on purchases and using my ulta card!!! I came to buy nail polish and ended up getting a few other things :) I gave Ulta 3 stars because not 1 person came to ask if I needed help or a basket for my things. There was plenty of people walking around and about 3 employees talking among themselves by the registers. While checking out I asked the gentleman to check how many points I had which he said $18. Then he told me the total due without applying my points.... I asked him to use my points and he gave a look and cancelled the transaction to apply my $18 in rewards. After leaving the store my daughter and her cousin told me an employee was following them around in every isle which made them feel uncomfortable so they left the store and waited for me outside!
