Same as someone else, 4.5 for the store (almost 5 but sometimes there is confusion getting up to the cashier) and 3 ..sliding into a 2.5... for the Salon. When its going well its OK. Ive visited the salon about a dozen times and maybe twice I've been satifisfied (I kept trying) but the last maybe...5-6x? have not been good. 1) their prices on the website are inaccurate, it clearly says a shampoo is included with xyz service but at least twice Ive been charged separately, when I relay the website info, they simply say "yea we know...but no" Um, maybe you want to change the website rather than falsely advertise???? 2) at least 3x I've gone in with AN APPT (as I always do) and been told "oops, the appt didn't show up and we don't have time now, or the appt shows up but we don't dont have for all of it" or the last one from last week, "Oh the stylist called in sick, didn't you get a call???" Um..no, why would I show up if I had gotten a call????? 3) Pushy sales...the first time I appreciated it, then the next time with the same stylist you realize they're making up hair issues you have to sell you products 4) its not cheap...but presumably you know that before you go in. I was initially going to do a curbside order but then I remembered how I had to wait 30 minutes for a previous curbside order as I played phone tag with the employees, so I figured I'd run in as I only had two small items to grab. I walked in at the same time as a woman and her family as well as another young lady. Initially I veered off track but quickly told myself to stick to the plan and get what I came for and go home. As I'm looking for a product very thoroughly as I don't want to miss it(rollerball perfume), I notice the security guard is literally standing right by me. Crazy thing is I find the scent I'm looking for and what do you know, someone else has already stolen it and the box is empty! I then go grab my other item and as expected security follows as to make sure I am still in his sight. (Side Note: I literally walked in with no purse, wallet in my pocket, keys and phone in hand) I make my way back to the perfume section as I'm contemplating on whether or not to just purchase the full bottle of perfume and again here comes the security guard for the third time! At this point I'd had enough and decided to just checkout and unfortunately, that experience wasn't great either as the cashier handed me the receipt as if I had cooties. What's even worse is I get home and realize that the item I purchased is dirty as if someone rubbed it all over the floor. It's unfortunate that I'll now have to go 20-30 minutes out of my way to another location just to exchange or return the item as I no longer wish to visit this location. I hate to throw the race card but I still can't find a reason as to why I, out of the other 10 people in the store was chosen to surveil. ONLINE ORDER - PICK FROM STORE - AWEFUL EXPERIENCE!!! I went to the store at night to make sure that there would be less people on the floor. I don't like being outside with the surge in COVID cases! This is the reason why I ordered online and chose "pick up from the store". So, I don't have to stay inside the store for long. I received the email that my order was ready to be picked up at 9am and I went at roughly 615pm. My order was nowhere to be found.  The cashier said that they haven't put it together yet. And that they will do so right away.  I said, no worries and waited.  I waited about 20 minutes and asked again for my order.  And the cashier said they are looking for 2 more items.  I started walking around the store to look for it myself.  But there was none of the Glycolic Acid on the floor.  So I went back to the cashier and asked if they simply don't have the 2 items because I can see the other 3 were already on the counter.  He said that they are looking in the back.  Once again, I said ok. Another 10 minutes. But at this point, I'm already getting upset and starting to get annoyed because my anxiety about being inside the store is starting to kick in. Especially when more people started showing up. One of the workers came and she said, oh there's none in the back, but let me check the bottom drawers here in the cashier area.  Lo and behold, there's a bunch there.  So she rings it up, takes another 10 minutes to do so. She hands me the bag and I check it to make sure everything is okay in my order.  I saw that the Make Up Forever spare did not have a cover and it clearly looked used.  And the bottle was not even full!  So I asked her, do you have a cover?  And the answer was, no, that's what they found. It might be the only one left. So at this point, I'm already upset. I told the cashier, my order was not ready, even though I got an email at 9am saying that it was. 9am, because I ordered it the night before! See below email! And worst, they want me to buy a used face spray that was not even clean! This is ridiculous!  She said, we can give you a refund if you want. So I told her yes, I would like a refund.  She said let me call my manager.  So, the manager comes.  Alecia is her name.  Amazing. Not only did she ask what's wrong?  She did not even say anything, just started typing on her computer. No apologies, NOTHING!  She said, the money will go back to your card, please slide it. I told her I ordered the items using my afterpay account so I can get points!  And she said, oh, well, let me see.  So at this point, I had to think of how fast I can get out of there because I can't stand being inside anymore with everyone, especially these horrible non customer oriented sales people!  I told her, would it be easier if you just exchanged it with another Glycolic Acid and I can pay the difference?  She said, Okay , that will work! She processes it and says, 77 cents.  and give me the bottle.  No thank you, no sorry for the inconvenience.  NOTHING.  These people need to either find another job if they don't want to be there or they need to just get fired for poor service.  I'm very upset!  If I didn't need my toner and makeup spray tomorrow, I would return everything.  But that would require me to stay in the store longer. I'd like to start my review by thanking a manager named Natalie* (apologies if I spelled your name incorrectly) for apologizing for one of the most unacceptable customer service I've ever received from this establishment. This star is for you. Working in retail and having management experience myself, I understand the pressures of the weekend retail rush. It in fact is irritating and will drive you crazy. So ladies, I understand if you want to get your customers out of the store to do your closing procedures, HOWEVER, I STRONGLY advise you to not YELL at customers walking in, unaware that you are closed. I was yelled at as if I was hostile and breaking in, but of course I wasn't, the door was unlocked for me to glide right through it. Mistake is definitely on me for not checking what time the store is closed, however as associates I know there is a standard to greetings. FOLLOW IT. No matter how tired you are and no matter how irritated you are. Your customer should never feel upset about how he or she was greeted upon waking in. I had the WORST customer experience in the Pinole, CA store this March 20, 2019, 4:13pm. Upon entering the front door, despite 3 associates standing and laughing at each other around the beauty bars (located in the front center of the store) and looking up to see me come in- NO ONE greeted me. This was shocking as I NEVER experienced this lack of welcome at any of their other stores. I wanted to purchase the Kristen lipgloss by Anastasia, Beverly Hills, yet there were none there. So, I got in line to inquire about ordering it and after The male cashier finished with his previous customer, he looked at me and nodded my way as if to "beckon" me over. I didn't receive the smiling "Next customer" announcement like the person in front of me. When I asked if that was an indication for me to approach the register, he said "Umm-yeah! You ready?!" I was briefly taken aback, but was still eager to order the lipgloss I liked so much. When I got to the register, I asked if I may order the lipgloss since there are no more on the display and says, "You got a credit card?" I then inquired about the time it would take and if it was better to wait, maybe a new shipment is coming soon. He then concludes hastily, "If you want to order it, I need a credit card and I can maybe get it here or have it shipped in a week". I then asked if another store may have it and he said (unhelpingly) "No, I don't know". I thanked him although his customer skills far from warranted it and left. I love Ulta in general, but this one is just okay. I've had a hard time decided what to write because I've had good days and bad days here. I am almost always greeted as soon as I walk through the door, but am rarely approached for assistance once in the isles. My plan now is to make a list, get the items quickly, and get out. The biggest plus of Ulta is that they have pretty much anything you could use or need in the beauty department. AND Points. Oh the points. The points are the reason I'm giving Ulta this 4 instead of a 3. I buy 90% of my makeup here because there are few retailers that sells It's Cosmetics, so I rack up a good amount. When they have It's Cosmetics giveaways, they are always great! The cash wrap area is where there could be some improvement at this location. There seems to always be a line, which is not so bad, but if the line is 6 deep, one register isn't enough. I also seem to be behind the person who asks 10000 questions. It seems to be betting better as tonight a second sales associate came to the register as soon as there were 3 people in line. read more

I feel they're are very rude and unprofessional. When I first walked in I wasn't greeted. When I was walking around no one offered if I need help. Then when I went to pay at the register, the lady who was the cash rep took 3 minutes to help me bc she was arranging perfumes when I was in full site of her. Turns out it was the associate manager or something. While doing my transaction, she didn't make any eye contact with me or even asked if I found everything alright. All in all, such a bad experience. I LOVE THE CONCORD ULTA. They always greet me and they are so helpful and know their products. Go there instead of here. Again.... I have to say this store is horrible. The store manager is so rude and unfriendly. I didn't get her name but she's African American. She seems uptight all the time like she have something to prove of her title. Come on... everyone is there shopping for makeup, they want to explore and find something to make them feel beautiful, it's supposed to be fun! Cosmetics are so expensive and anyone who works hard to earn their money want to make it worth it, it's not easy to find the right products. If I'm gonna spend $50 on a face powder I want to make sure it's something that I really like. Unfortunately the environment there is very unpleasant. They make you feel like you have to rush. They have so many stock clerks, no one offers to help the customers and one person at the register. The store manager is rude to her workers in front of customers which puts me in a very uncomfortable position. I wish this place would be friendlier and more upbeat to accommodate the clientele. I love makeup and I would have definitely spend more money there if they would have been more professional. Also note that it's not a crime to return a product that doesn't work out..... when a customer spends over $200 on products from your store and realized she picked up the wrong thing, want to exchange the item but there's non on the shelves, which leaves her no choice but to return the wrong product. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I come here all the time and they're mediocre with their service, which I dont mind because I know what I want, I know my shades and I already did my research of things that I want to look at beforehand... I'm an MUA, I'd hope I can match my own foundation shade! But today in particular, we were approached by an Asian lady with glasses and asked if we needed help(only because she probabaly thought we were stealing). Obviously she heard someone over her headset to approach us. After we said no, she was still listening to the person over the headset and was about to hold the "talk" button to say something but I kept staring at her. Then she walked away, and I kid you not, I LOST COUNT AFTER SHE PASSED US 7 TIMES to see what I was doing. I complained to the MOD and she said that that particular worker has special needs, and that was when the manager started to play dumb. First of all, why would you put your employees personal information out there like that? How unprofessional. She was most likely trying to make me have sympathy over the worker, whether it is true or not. But as a manager, I would never tell a customer that an employee has special needs. It's for no ones business to know that. She proceeded to act dumb and "look around" to see who else wouldve been watching us. I have over 10 years of experience in retail and I know when a manager is playing stupid because she knows that the customer's perception of being suspected of stealing is correct. This review is for Gigi in the salon studio! Gigi today worked miracles on my hair with a same day appointment. She listened to all my concerns with hair products and recently been terrorized by another stylist who had no idea what she was doing (not a Ulta stylist)! She went over all the products she was going to use and even put some in that I already use that works great with my curl pattern. I came in with my hair up and a headband over it and ended up leaving with silky smooth hair and she even layered it for me impromptu. I found what I wanted, and I liked the ULTA brand products! I spent over $50 so I got a free makeup pouch, complete with an 18 piece set. The freebie was a great addition! It was full of eye shadows and brushes that I really like. This will be my go to place for makeup staples and beauty supplies that I use frequently. I started getting facials with Kat during winter 2017 and have been coming regularly ever since. I used to have really bad eczema, rosacea, and some acne combined. When I was younger I would get teased a lot because I was really ashy. When I started getting facials with Kat, my life changed. She transformed my skin so much and I give her all the credit. I think theres a section that looks like this; 1. When a customer comes in the door DO NOT great them. Let them earn that greeting by buying stuff. Greetings are resrved for PAYING customers ONLY. 2. If said customer is lingering in the isles and looking confused DO NOT ask them if they need help. They should have left their house knowing what they wanted. Let them come to you if they need something. 3. If they do ask about product recommendations, know NOTHING about the products in the store. It's a huge store with multiple products, again, they should have done thier research at home. So show them one product and let them figure themselves out. I was really happy to find out that there was an Ulta in the area! This specific store is spacious, well kept, stocked, and always clean. There's plenty of space to move about among the aisles. The staff here is welcoming and friendly too. It doesn't seem like this location gets very busy, which I find as a plus, because less people means more items in stock. The other locations I've been to would have at least one of the items I want out of stock. So, I guess that's one I the benefits if putting this Ulta in a smaller town. As for the company itself, I love how many freebies they have throughout the year as well as the birthday gifts they give. This year, I received a FULL tube of Calvin Klein's One mascara, not a small sample like the competitors give for birthdays. Again, I'm really happy that Ulta is so close to home. Dangerous for my wallet, but there's nothing wrong with splurging here and there. read more

I feel like I'm almost always here for something every other week but I'm very happy about it being at this location because I don't have to drive far. It's also convenient that they carry products that Sephora do and don't have so that's a plus since there isn't a Sephora close to me. I just discovered about this store early on this year to be honest (I know, I'm late). I have a newly found obsession with makeup and skincare products so it's often a one stop shop for me. The staff are always friendly and I like that it doesn't get hella crowded in here. The only thing is that they jack up the price a smidge on drugstore products when you can head over to Target on the other side of this plaza for a couple of bucks cheaper. I displayed no indication or body language that would be considered cynical. These employees need better training. Customers should only be pestered if the indicators are there. This is super convenient for me; it's about 6 minutes from where I live. I'm so glad they've decided to open an Ulta here! I'm happy I can come to this store for both drug store and high end makeup brands. And not even just cosmetics but for facial/skin care products, hair products/services (back!), nail products, etc. They also have a Benefit Brow Bar which would be even better if there were more than just one aesthetician. The customer service is amazing at Ulta Pinole. The consistent helpfulness and pleasantries make them stand out from Sephora - where I'm always trying to track down someone for help. Mykel is a stellar manager who was patient and educated on the best cosmetics for my skin type, color, and tone and tested a few on me. And this was all 10 minutes before closing. But the overall customer experience at Ulta is another story. It's a bit frustrating. I was happy to see Ulta open 5 minutes away from my home. But do you want to know why Sephora on Bay Street in Emeryville, Calif. is still WINNING and they are 20 minutes away from my home? -- Sephora is also located in the heart of the highly multicultural San Francisco East Bay Area and carries a broad range of foundation shades by each brand; unlike Ulta where they stop at a certain shade for many brands regardless of the range that they offer, which forces me to explore an unfamiliar brand or go to Sephora in Emeryville. -- so if I do decide to explore an unfamiliar brand of foundation I have to buy it, because Ulta does not offer makeup samples; Sephora does and it helps me spend my money with confidence when I know I'm making a well informed purchase. The DIY part of cosmetics is a huge part of customer experience that Sephora has considered and nailed. -- Sephora's inventory is omnichannel. Pretty much whatever I research on sephora.com I can buy in-store as well; unlike Ulta when I research brands on ulta.com they do not sell all of them in-store.
