I had a better brand experience for a men's deodorant that I picked up at this Ulta Beauty store. The brand I got was Every Man Jack and the fragrance was Crimson Oak. I have had Every Man Jack before and it was a different fragrance. I didn't really care for that product as it seemed like the deodorant gave out through mid day. But with this latest purchase Every Man Jack and a different scent I haven't had any trouble with it all as the previous purchase from this brand. As far as the the store itself it's pretty much like any other Ulta store. Staff were very busy but I had no issue with that as I found what I needed on my own and wasn't really dependent on a staff member's help. If I could give 0 stars I would. First off I get my hair done in the salon and not only is the lady rough as hell, RIPPING my hair out the entire 4 hours I was there. But then she completely RUINED my hair and refused to take accountability for it. I talked to the manager which I usually would never do but it was that bad. And she essentially said they can fix it or do nothing. But after then fucking my fair up twice now. I just wanted my money back. Be mindful that having an appointment does not guarantee you will be attended to at the designated time. I took my child for a haircut and deep conditioning at 1:15 PM, arriving early at 1:00 PM. However, the stylist (Makayla) was busy with another client. Fast forward to 1:45 PM, and we decided to leave since it was clear the stylist was far from finishing. I would like to shout out MJ who was working today. The last time I was at a different ulta beauty, no one talked to me. Today, I was trying to conquer my social anxiety and go in to finally get makeup. I haven't used makeup before so I didn't know what I was looking for or what I needed. MJ passed me asked if I needed anything and I asked her if she could help me find a foundation color that would look good on me. She was amazing. She dropped what she was doing, gathered some foundations and we sat down at the table and she tested some foundation. Then she asked if I wanted concealed, bronzer, blush everything. Asked if I needed brushes too. I wasn't sure what I wanted for the bronzer or blush so she literally gave me two different options and did them on half my face so I could see my options and which one I liked. Then she walked me over to the brushes and helped me find the brushes that worked best. She was super nice, super respectful and super patient with me. I seriously appreciate her. I've shopped here a hand full of times over the last 5 or 6 years but I have never been to the Salon they have in the back of the store. My oldest really wanted to cut her hair and add some bangs, so I thought why not ask around and see what the community has to say. My greatest concern was her curls! Not all hair dressers know how to cut or trim curly hair and I've unfortunately have had several bad experiences from an uncounted salons who either cut way too much or decide to cut my hair when I needed just a trim. But after speaking with a friend and verified the person who they recommended, I made an appointment and her new style turned out great! Anyone who is looking for a funny, kind hearted person to do their hair should ask for Lisa. She is fantastic and I will be bringing my other kiddos see her, once you find a gem it's difficult to give that up. Because of covid they don't have much seating while you wait but one of the mangers allowed my girls to sit out of way close by so that we could all stay together. Much appreciation for that accommodation, I didn't want to leave her alone why we wondered the mall. Please continue to do your part and stay safe and healthy out there. Ulta Beauty - First Salon hair cut with some bangs - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - Puyallup, Washington

This was my first time getting a haircut at this Ulta location. I have been to a few others and have had a good experience. The girl who cut my hair was very nice but probably new. I showed her a picture of the cut I wanted, simple short bob (about jaw length, slightly longer) with slight texturizing in the back because I have very thick hair. Red flag #1: The first cut was way higher than I had asked for. She put her comb at the bottom of my neck, I guess where the neck starts, and I told her just a tad higher because I had wanted a slightly shorter cut. As you can see by the picture, her first cut was about 1.5in higher than where I pointed out. Red flag #2: I couldn't point out or say anything to fix the first snip because she cut my hair with it all down at once! I told her several times I have thick hair. It should have been sectioned of. She did the WHOLE CUT like this. Red flag #3: Like is said already, and like I told her several times. I have thick hair. When she made that first cut, it pulled my hair as did the next couple snips. Between thick hair being cut all at once and what were probably dull shears it was basically hacked away. Red flag #4: I asked for a few face framing pieces. As you can see in the last picture, they didn't turn out well. Red Flag #5: She told me how she basically just fried her own bangs off I didn't say anything there at the store because a) I'm usually not one to complain and this is only the 3rd negative review I've ever written. b) I had no clue how bad it was until I got home and really started examining it. c) after the first snip the cut was done for. There was nothing that could be done except now I'll just wait for it to grow. She was a rookie with a $45 price tag. She asked no questions. She didn't feel through or examine my hair texture, thickness the way it laid before she shampooed it. She was very nice hence the 3stars. Don't go here. I love ulta but will stick to purchasing online after my experience in store last night. I am leaving for a trip so I had many things to pickup and some new products I wanted to try. Many employees walked past me and said nothing. I was in there for about 30 minutes trying and looking at different things. When I got to the register to pay and grab my online order the cashier gave me a horrible look and talked in her headphone and then the manager came up. Both girls were so rude and not helpful. This review is for the Salon Service. My Ulta store experiences have been GREAT! *******The SALON "NON-EXPERIENCE"******* I scheduled an appointment to get a Wash and Blow ($40). I been wearing my hair in its natural state for two years now, and at least 90 percent of the time for the past 10 years. I was looking for a really good relaxing washing and good blow dry. My appointment was at 6:00pm; I arrived at 6:00pm. When I got to the counter to introduce myself, one of the stylist yelled to my stylist "your appointment is here" - she was less than a two yards away from me, and she just looked over to acknowledge me (she might have smiled underneath the mask but NO words). I waited for maybe 10-15 minutes. My daughter and I waited looking at other products. When I sat in her chair, she said she was familiar with working with textured/black people hair. I was not alarmed by the feeling I got, that she was "not", but I figured it's just a wash and blow dry. She unbraided my two pony-tail braids in my hair, then we headed to the wash bowl. She started to open-up and talk to me about Keratin Treatments, while she washed my hair ONCE, and condition it for 5 minutes. This is when I knew things were not good. I said you only washed my hair once; she said I know, your hair lathered well. I said, yeah, I normally wash it twice and sit in conditioner. NONE of that she tried to hear. That is when I knew I was being rushed. Once we got back to her chair she sprayed some heat protector in my hair, and tried to comb through it. Then she tried to brush through my hair. I knew I was in trouble now... She then grabs some cream (turns out it is leave in conditioner) and rubs it in my hair, and tried to brush dry my hair. She started in the back and must have realized that things were not coming out straight. ***Remind you this is the second PRODUCT put into my hair (heat protector and leave-in condition). She then seems frazzled and begins to walk around the salon looking for something; she finds it. Turns out she was looking for a comb attachment to blow dry my hair. She begins blow dry my hair with the comb attachment, the same stylist who informs my stylist that arrived to my appointment, alerts her to her next appointment and urges her to go and talk to her. Meanwhile, my stylist seems very disconnected, anxious, irritated, and silent. This is the part that sucks. I say it sucks because, service, should be equal, and urges should be equal!! My stylist stops blow drying my hair (YES, mid fro with two clips in the front of my head, and my hair is stiff, not moving, just stiff and stuck!) to go and talk to her next client. Her client was upset, my stylist told client/next appt that she can still do her hair, and her response was WHEN. She said oh, in the next 10-15 minutes. The client looks agitated and agrees to stay. My stylist walks back to my chair and continues to blow dry my hair.....in silence. After she finished blow drying my hair, it was still wet in the middle and stiff all over. NO movement and no body. My stylist then ask, is this the results you normally get. I answer, well, no not all the time. I still feel like I have product in my hair from before, it does not feel like my hair was washed well. She then tries to offer me a discounted service, and gives me $10 offer; she tries to hurry me away to get to her next client. Never giving me any information about the Keratin treatment as agreed, or giving me the name of the products she used in my hair. I had to pull my hair in a pony-tail and walk to the counter to pay. At check-out I gave the associate the story of my experience; she apologized for the experience. I did not want the $10 discount offer, I wanted better treatment and service. I suggested that they have an option to inform the stylist of what type of hair texture they have upon creating their appointment. I suggested that they get better training for textured hair and maybe they should have a receptionist engage with clients if the stylist is delayed. Overall, this was a horrible experience and felt very one sided. read more

This is the only place I get my hair done because of the great experiences i've had with Kristina in the salon. Came here twice so far, in March and July, to dye my hair one color. I definitly recommend getting hair done here! First experience, I wanted to get rid of the brassy orange left from a mistake at another Ulta location. My scalp was very fragile at this time, healing from a couple scalp conditions. It was a sensitive time. I needed to feel beautiful again and wanted the orange tones gone, but didn't want a hair stylist tugging and pulling at my hair in the process. Thankfully, that didn't happen. During the appointment, Kristina listened to my many requests to be fragile, brush carefully and not leave the dye in too long to avoid irratation. She was very flexible, patient, fragile and adaptable. In the end, she did a fantastic job and offered to curl my hair! I was hesistant to have heat and chemicals in my hair, so she read me the ingreidents and let me look at the bottles with no judgement. I ended up requesting light loose waves at the ends and she delivered! The waves stayed in for three days which was great :). Second experience with her in July was amazing as well. It was a last minute appointment in the late evening, one of her last slots. She carefully got my hair back to one color just as requested. A couple things I like most about her, is she's very effecient, consistent, caters to my requests with no judgement, and doesn't make me feel like I have to talk on and on. (I'm more often a quiet person and most stylists want me to chat with them when i'd rather just listen lol). The little things make a difference! My favorite beauty gurus on YouTube are of course Michelle Phan, Nikkie tutorials, Nikita Dragun, Emily ghoul, Jeffree Star, bretman rock, James Charles just to name a few. These beauty gurus are constantly trying new products, knows what the best products, constantly tests out new looks, knows what brands work best for what, etc. before I try out anything new, I always check YouTube to see what my credible beauty gurus have to say. Anytime I go to this ulta in particular, I already know which brand I want to purchase, I know what product I'm there to pick up and I swatch everything on my arm at the store so I can see exactly how the product is going to react to my skin. Sometimes, especially for foundation, concealer, primer, B.B. cream I swatch the colors on my arm and then I go outside to the sunlight to see which one fits me best. The representatives at Ulta are friendly and ask if I need help but most of the time, I just need help on where the clearance rack is or if I have reward points on my ulta account. It's unrealistic to think the reps at ulta are going to know what products work best for me, like they just work there. I love Ulta it always has everything I am looking for and if they don't have it, they are happy to direct me to online where I can order it. I love Sephora as well they each have their pros and cons. We trusted Ulta with a very important moment in our lives. My niece was turning 15 and we took her to Ulta to get her hair and make up done. At 2pm we needed to meet the photographer and chambelan (entourage) for a photo shoot. Not only were we super late and missed the pictures, some of the entourage drove from Canada and we were not able to take pictures. We missed out on having pictures taking for memories. We gave the stylist a picture of what we would like done. 4 hours laters her hair did not look nothing like what we had requested, we had to redo her hair and make up in the hall. We expressed to Ulta and management of how upset we were and they still made us pay $300. No apologize or refund. Ulta ruined a once in a life time memory. First and last time !!! read more

This review is for the attitude and remarks I experienced from Bek at Ulta South Hill Mall on 10/17/17 I've always leaned more towards Sephora when it came to buying makeup with my hard-earned money, but since Ulta carries the Tarte Shape Tape concealer, I decided to go in and match my shade. As soon as I walked in, not one of the store workers greeted me or asked if I needed any help. Usually, I find overbearing salespeople annoying, but they're just doing their job. Here at Ulta this was not the case. I ended up having to ask the girl at the register where all of the Tarte stuff was. There was a group of workers standing in the middle of the aisle blocking my way so I ended up having to take a detour through the perfumes. As soon as I started browsing the aisle, one young lady came and asked if I needed any help. I replied that I was just trying to match my shade with the shape tape. She barely even looked at me and picked two testers from the shelf, then led me over to the chair near the mirror. The shades looked too dark for a concealer on me, but I trusted her judgement. As soon as I was in the chair, she pulled my hair back and let me know she would match it to my neck and then we would go from there. I have a cherry birthmark near my neck, which over time shrunk and turned dark brown. It is small and inconspicuous, almost near my ear. I hardly get any comments about it anymore. This one girl asked me if I wanted my hickey covered. I looked her in the eye and said "it's a birthmark. It really is." Even if I did have a hickey, how dare anyone point it out? Especially in a girl's most vulnerable place-- the makeup chair. Before leaving for a minute to get a brush, she said "I'll be right back, and then we'll get you looking normal so you can go out and do stuff." What? Really? I guess I don't look normal without any makeup. Of course I wouldn't be wearing any makeup if I was going to a store to match my makeup shade to my skin tone. She then proceeded to match my shade. Too dark for my taste by my under eyes. After she set it with setting powder, it looked ok. I take everything with a grain of salt because of the bright lights at every makeup store. I ended up buying the concealer and a setting powder, also from Tarte. I thanked her over my shoulder and walked away. As I went to pay, the two girls at the register seemed annoyed that I interrupted their conversation. I paid for my makeup and felt absolutely violated and stupid. I have acne scars and pock marks, which make me feel insecure whenever I go makeup shopping. I often refuse help from any store worker because I know how judge mental they can be. I figured I would change my routine for Ulta. When I got home and opened my phone, I noticed that the setting powder around my eyes was obviously chalk white and not blended. I came to Ulta knowing it's better than Sephora to look for the powder dry shampoo and a razor since I would already be there. Multiple times an employee was near me but helping another customer so I waited patiently for my turn only to have her WALK OFF after she was done with the first customer and not even acknowledge me, and yes she looked at me a few times. This happened 3 times, another employee was walking around handing out bags to people but at this point I stopped seeking them out and waited for them to see me waiting. I was literally standing in the middle of the main isle for 40 minutes just waiting for them to ask me if I needed help, each of the 2 ladies looked at me many times but just continued walking around as if they weren't floor employees. Then a salon lady I assume walked by me many times very close in proximity and looked at me Everytime but didn't bother to ask if I needed help. So the 3rd time she walked by I called her over "excuse me" and asked if any floor employees were on shift cause I've been waiting for 40 minutes and I told her that employees simply walked away from me without asking if I needed help, she didn't seem to be too worried and just rushed me "what can I help you with" instead of listening to their failed customer service. So she helped me find the razors but claimed they didn't carry anything but spray can dry shampoo, though she didn't seem sure on that answer and didn't even show me any dry shampoo... In the end they didn't have a razor I wanted and apparently no dry shampoo besides spray. She asked me if I had any more questions and if I did to ask the other employee on the floor cause she doesn't really know where stuff is in the store (she told me to ask the employee that blew me off multiple times). The point of this review is that they need to get re trained or something, customer service might be a shitty job but it's EASY, help the customer, acknowledge them, I did it for years, it isn't rocket science, and theirs is LACKING. Talked with Kim the manager of the store. Told her I had bad foot pain and walking and standing are difficult for me. Called ahead to see if the items I wanted were in stock and asked her if she would take them to the front counter so I would not have to walk around the store. She said she would. THIS REVIEW IS ACTUALLY FOR THE NEW LAKEWOOD STORE however I can't find Lakewood on Yelp. I went in to Ulta for the first time ever! It was a brand new store. The costumer service sucked and my daughter and I felt like people were constantly watching us. It was night time and I had no make up on. I probably looked a little "raggedy" however I had nice clothes on and had my purse on. I was ready to shop. Security was young and acted as if she worked for Ulta too. I understand they don't want people stealing but they need to remember not everyone is a thief. I have a job and a home and I don't need to take...if anything offer to help me, don't stand over and stare. I'm not sure if I want to return to the store. The cherry on top was at the end my debit card chip wouldn't work. The store clerk didn't know what to do and started getting impatient! So I told them I'll have to come back. I used to enjoy getting my haircut at the S Hill location until my regular gal stopped working there. But I took a chance and went with a new stylist. BIG BIG BIG MISTAKE!! This gal thought she was all that and a bag of chips, mind u I paid for what they call a "Signature cut" for $45-55. No personality whatsoever, and she also corrected me real smart-assed like on my hairstyle bcuz what I had asked for wasn't the proper name of the style which by her facial expressions irritated her. When I first sat down in her seat she had asked if I wanted my hair styled saying"its a few dollars more" thinking to myself ok a few dollars is fine. Well after it was all said and done she had charged me $85.00...what tha...$45.00 for the cut, which was just fine, but the few dollars more for the style was $45.00 for the blowout. Couldn't believe it. I'm not one to not tip but this time she didn't get a tip nor will I EVER go back to that Ulta location again. They lost my business. After reading most of the reviews I was very skeptical of coming here. I had a gift card from christmas to use up so I had no choice. As soon as I walked on I noticed all of the employees were working with customers and helping them pick out make up. I didn't go for anything in particular so I just wondered around and got a variety of things. I will admit it's a bit spendy but a lot of products were buy one get one 50% off. I love Ulta and popped into this location while I was in the area to grab some foundation. The esthetician approached me and made negative comments about the size of my pores. I was absolutely shocked but tried to remain polite and chat with her about my (dermatologist approved) skincare routine. She continue to make rude and judgmental remarks regarding my skin and care routine until I was able to walk away. I wish I had got her name but she was blonde and had surprisingly terrible makeup for a skincare specialist working in a cosmetic store. Ulta should really take care to hire staff that know how to match and blend their own foundation and who don't try to bully customers into using their services. I felt like they were judging me and sizing me up. In fact, every time I come in I feel this way. I had the mascara I was going to buy in hand and was making my way to the register. The line was ungodly long so I decided to put the product back, but I had to navigate a bunch of bulky end caps. I stepped toward the exit to make my way around to were I got the mascara and I felt like the ladies thought I was going to steal this 13 dollar mascara...I just felt embarrassed. Every time I come here I don't feel welcome and often don't get the help I need when I actually need it. Won't be shopping here anymore. read more
